Some phones are great to take camping because if you play Asphalt 8 long enough, the back warms up to the ideal temperature that can bake bread. My P20 Pro gets VERY warm even without gaming under heavy screen usage. Lightroom, google photos, email, hangouts... I then put it in my pants pocket and could feel the heat noticeably till it cooled down.
My p20 pro is still pretty cold as it hasn't arrived yet
I've been surprised at the lack of heat!
Weird. Mine is fine. Something sucking up cpu time in the background maybe?
Mine gets quite warm even after light use (especially in the upper left corner).
Does the same happen to you? Is it normal?

Hi, same thing happens to me, albeit after a bit longer/more demanding use.
I've noticed when playing PUBG only, after the latest update that gives the game suite and some sec updates i think, the phone becomes warm, and then the heat from the battery/cpu interferes with the touchscreen and exactly where my finger is to move in pubg, its the warmest.
Thus it stops registering my finger and i quit moving in the game, wouldn't notice this on daily use of course, but i think it is a huge issue. Not because i died multiple times due to that in the game, but as it is a new and kindof premium phone, this shouldn't happen at all and was working perfectly for 2 months before that.
I've even installed an app to measure the temperature and it goes up to about 49 degrees celsius.
Any ideas?
Don't have any issue. Was using iPhone 6 and it was literally burning while am playing any game.
This device is far from getting warm compared to iPhone 6 and 7.
I'd say the P20 Pro is average when it comes to heat during use. It will never get uncomfortably hot, but can get fairly warm when gaming.

Razer wasn't kidding when they said that the heat dissipation in this phone is borrowed from their gaming laptop division. This thing can get a little warm but is a far cry from all of the other phones that I have felt and used. Good work Razer. I benchmark like crazy and have not seen it throttle ever.
With the screen at 3/4 brightness and playing Titanfall Assault, the phone gets pretty warm. Which isn't an issue hwoever I notice the touchscreen starts to be less accurate.
Can't say it's been hot, not even sure I can say it's been warm. This is with using the razer rugged case, which is like 2-3mm thick so I think I would probably feel it if it became hotter.
Temps are good when verifying via CPUZ.
Heat dissipation is through the aluminum case itself and as such can get warmer than feels comfortable during heavy use.
When you play graphically heavy games for very long (examples 2 hours on RoS: Rules Of Survival), the phone heats up but its quite slow. Dissipates faster than other flagship phones though
Mine got way too hot too quickly.

Rippu. Try limiting your graphical use. The phone really puts emphasis more into the games and actually pushes your phone to the limits.
I've been doing hours of heavy gaming with MC5 while charging. This phone is slow to heat up, and stays relatively cool. I'm also using a case.

Done stress test using app and in 10 minutes phone top half, but top half of the front screen heated most
Overall use for the last 3 days phone didn't manage to get hot. And just played around 30-40 minutes of NFS No Limits resulting again in almost no noticeable difference in heat.
Used a couple of days.
During normal use didn't notice it getting any warmer. Same goes for some not so demanding games.
With some more hardcore gaming I can maybe feel a warmer spot when I look for it.
Will update after I run a stress test for funsies and do a longer gaming session.
Overall, awesome imo!
edit: While gaming for longer time, Less demanding games like clash royale and so on do not heat up the phone at all. Playing Hearthstone and PUBG also didn't notice any significant heat-up. It all depends on how the game is optimized, overall good games even these more demanding won't heat up the phone much. I tested some early access game, it heat up a lot and drained battery very quickly, the phone heated up in the top part near the camera.
My one does tend to get fairly warm but that's about it.

Good to hear, usually most phones I have used, when browsing the web for a while, the phone heats up.

The processor is optimized well. The device gets warm with heavy multi tasking but not hot. Only time it gets above 42 degrees at the back is if you play PUBG at HD and Extreme FPS with the case on!
Then again, the phone is limited to Medium and Balanced for optimization reasons!
I played pubg for 20-30 minutes with adaptive brightness and it just got little warm only
I used 3 to 4 models of Moto compared to them heat is very less. Some times it heat little bit. Noting to worry .

I often play games such as COD and PUBG at full graphics settings the phone supports, not heating to a point concerning me.
Pubg
Been playing Pubg and the phone does get a little warm - but nothing concerning at all.
Plays nicely too!

I play 1-2 matches of Auto Chess a day, the phone never gets hot and you can play fine at max settings.
In comparison my previous phone Huawei P9 Lite, always gets hot and starts to lag significantly from Round 20.
I also play pubG and COD and after 5' phones' upper front and back are getting very very hot. It is also getting hot even when just charging...

I am getting nothing like this. Phone is fine whilst charging.
I charge phone to 100% and play three games at auto brightness , PUBG, Miami Vice, and Empire and Puzzles..
I got 12 hours of playing and still left on 20% battery, I play without pause!!
The temperature was about 37 38 degrees..
I have also make a thread about this on Mi Community..
This phone is so good that..I can describe it..
Heating.. no.
This is just make up from peoples who dont know how to properly use phone or measure temperature..

Not a heavy gamer, but haven't noticed any significant heat issues.

Sorry, no heat at all. Tried with COD, Pubg, Real Racing, Cyber Hunter etc.

I think this phone warms more than others in its price range (though I never played games on a phone).
Nothing to worry about but with regular use it heats up.
Can't agree.
Even when using navigation or playing a game my device doesn't get warm at all.

You have bad apps or faulty device. Mine is the most cold phone I have ever had. My phone is always cold to the touch unless I play heavy games and even when playing heavy games at 60fps it's only slightly warm and still perfectly comfortable to hold even when gaming for over 1 hour.
Using for a month now, Heats up to 43 degrees sometimes while charging. Otherwise, it's cool even while playing games like pubg for a long time.
by far the coolest phone (literally) I've ever had. Even with stress tests the phone gets barely warm. I tried throttle tests too. even after very long periods of time there's no thermal throttle at all. this might be one of the best qualities of this phone
Today I realized that the Redmi Note 9 Pro is a cooling expert. It was 29 degrees C outside and I walked on the streets with my phone in my front left pocket of my jeans. I definitely felt my left leg freezing. That much cooling from a phone? Is that possible? I mean, I felt it's possible... Cool.!
Great job xiaomi, intentionally or not.

that's what you get after putting the phone in the freezer for a couple of hours and then placing it on your pants, you don't really need to use a phone for that..
Great phone, No heating after playing Pubg for long time.
Best devices from all of my others phone.
