this device overheats while being used for vr, and when being used with amlost any moto mod i have the camera, projector, and jbl speaker and all of them cause the phone to get hot. anyone wanna test? just use a mod for 20 min and then remove it and touch the back its very warm near the pinout. the cpu is in the lower half of the device.
no heat issue unless playing heavy duty game or play 2 hr more video
My last phone was a moto G4 plus which overheated like hell, I play a lot of pokemon go, and the device gets a bit warm, but nothing too much to worry about, also in intensive games gets fairly toasty but really, nothing like other phones. Also consider what it says here about our phone overvolted compared to other phones with the same chip. I actually won't make modifications to the stock rom of this phone until some development gets stronger, but it's possible to get better battery life and most importantly better thermals tweaking some stuff.
i just made a moto mod that cools my phone and recharges it at the same time. PUBG doesn't even get my device hotter than 35c after 2+hours(added the current data from all my testing)

I'll second that, mine gets hot wheels the game pad or turbo mod are connected.
It's possible for the phone to get hot under high loads or when charging, especially with the TurboPower mod, but it's nothing crazy.
Over all, for a titanium back, great thermals.
On benchmark it goes hot as hell. Never do a benchmark again. Was 3D Mark.
01/2019 Real user review Haven't felt any lag even on heavy usage. All apps load pretty fast. RAM management is great! Scrolling is pretty smooth, no complains. On long calls or on updates while charging it can heat up , but nothing considerable.
A8 will be hot? I actually used this phone to play a9, unbelievable.?
Hello friends, I'm from Brazil and I'm translating this message through google. I have a z2 force about 2 years ago, I recently bought a mod 360 camera, The problem is that when I go to make videos the phone heats up more, to the point of starting to catch. The videos from about 12-15 min in duration starts to crash! Does anyone have this problem too?

Hey leave my processor alone Its running sweet on my OnePlus two!
The Note5 is generally very efficient in terms of temperature. To be frank, it's probably the second coolest phone I've tried this year after the ZenFone 2 and its Atom Z3850 SoC. The Exynos 7420 is remarkably cold even when gaming, albeit it can ramp up temperature after extended runs. I rarely see the device get close to 40 degrees Celsius, though, while my OnePlus 2 can reach that temperature in no time through gaming. The combination of a large body and the materials chosen definitely helps, but a lot of it comes from the general awesomeness of the Exynos 7420 and its small process size. Also worth noting is that the heat is pretty evenly distributed, which I love. It doesn't making gaming uncomfortable like on other phones.
With the Note 5 I can barely feel any heat. It's 1000 times cooler than the S6 edge I had. My S6 edge was always blistering hot no matter what.

My recent experience: Note 5 is way cooler than S6 and Oneplus 2. It only get warm after really extended use.
heavy use (browsing + music streaming + youtube) while on 4G can definitely warm up the device. significantly. On WiFi the heat is much lower in my experience.
Even when playing clash of clans the device is just lukewarm ?
Zenfone for the win! One of the coolest devices I have ever owned. (Apart from the HTC Dream xD)
But my Note is also quite cool, but when charging and watching YouTube, it gets a bit hotter.

Resurrection Remix on Zenfone 2... fastest phone I've ever used.
I'm on this phone for the past hour with continuous browsing n yet not a slightest sign of heat
Sometimes on charge, this phones get really hot but after a while it settles down. No heat otherwise.
Lol!!! If any other devices are in close vicinity
So gutted this phone isnt available in the UK. We were just given the s6 Edge + and unfortunately I'm not a fan, much rather have a stylus.
just bought it
i feel it is not a samsung phone
fantastic
no over heat like the ****ty note 4
Soft and smooth, really liked the heat generation management, only feels the warmth following wireless charging.
Though not a note 5, I noticed that my note 4 never gets hot either. The only time I have felt it warm at all is when its been on a the fast charger for an extended length of time. It could be this is an intentional design of the series since its supposed to be for business use.
Ok this phone does get hot. Not only just charging fast wired and fast wireless. If your using your phone for a LONG period of time, constant screen on time, HD youtube videos, twitch, messenger video/chat, snapchat video and tethering. It's no surprise that this phone, like my note 3 and droid bionic before is the Achilles heel of any phone. These phones cant handle all this Snap chat vids, messenger video chat, wathching HD college football, NFL and Lebron James winning the NBA title. The more we use the screen, the hotter this phone gets, using ebay social media is no problem. But when you max the battery, ram CPU and put a load on the phone, it will get hot. Causes to get hot during my usage:
1. HD Video youtube, Netflix, twitch
2. Mobile tethering
3. Video Chat Snapchat, messenger video, Google hangout Video etc
4. Using your phone for for 2-4 hours straight!!!

Oh not again. I was just about to ask about this, as my note 7 heats up as well but it hasn't exploded yet. When does yours heat up gaming or just casual use?
What was the ambient temperature of your environment of the time of use? Just wondering.
I've only had the phone get really warm to touch once, when using podcast, phone and navigation in the car. Around 68 degrees ambient. Nothing too unusual. This battery is much smaller and better tested. Though even my Note 7 never got dangerously hot.
I have been using my Note 8 heavy for 3 days now. With the brightness turned up to about 80% and my phone has not even gotten warm.

I drive a lot, in the direct sun and while using GPS and streaming music to the car. Every phone I've ever had has shut down on me at least once, with the iPhone shutting down as well.
Internal temps are usually 60-70°c at that point, so I honestly don't think the Note 8 will be any different.
I'm genuinely excited to see how it fairs, with the larger screen and dual glass body.
I had my Hotspot on all night so I could upload files from my pc...phone was in its case and it was still cool to the touch in the morning...
Maybe I have an older wireless charger, but my phone heats up to 40C while charging and only running Sidesync (wireless). It's the Ravpower wireless charger (not fast charging). This only happened once, and now I'm unplugging the cable to the charging stand after it reaches 100%....may need the ones with the built in fans.
mine gets really hot when watching 4K HDR content on youtube with max brightness... I have to switch hands from time to time haha
I was in my backyard yesterday reading on mine, it was about 90 degrees out. I didn't notice outside but when I came in my phone was hot.
I won't lie, I was concerned and sat it on a table away from me.
Exynos Model here.
Mine gets hot when I watch 4k Youtube videos.
I also noticed that it gets mildly warm when using spotify.
Other than that, it runs cool.
I was recording right in the sun for about 10 minutes I had it set up in 4k, got a message saying that the phone is too hot couldn't use the camera until it cool down.
Never heats! Only a little warm at times
Barely feel any heat even with a long gaming session.
Might be exynos related my snapdragon barely gets warm even after a long periods of demanding games. This is the first phone I've ever used that doesn't even get warm my exynos Note 5 only last a minute or two before it gets pretty warm and thermal throttle kicks on my framerate in games drop.
My Exynos N8 gets warmer in general use than my Snapdragon Xperia XZ. Warm but never hot.
After 5 months of use, my exynos 950F 128 GB only gets a little warm, I have even tried to make it hot, using it heavily, but, no, just a little warm, even cooler than other devices I have had
My N950F Exynos Note8 barely if ever gets warm. Only time I have felt it get warm was when using Googleaps Navigation while the phone sat in direct sunlight in the car dashboard.

Mine is exynos and it gets warm when i play world war heroes with full detail configuration, performance mode on and charging the phone at same time.
Despite living in a hot and very humid environment. I found that my N950N has been able to keep pretty cool even when in it's Spigen Tough Armor.

That is perfectly normal for your device get warm if you are playing graphics intensive games and while your device is charging.

My phone actually heating up significantly during the initial setup...which is something that I have never experienced before. However, my former phone mysteriously began doing that lately, and dropping data connections. I have since swapped to a new SIM card, as I feel that it might have been the main cause of the problem.
Updates to come later.
First day of ownership I was a little scared of the heating. I always keep screen on 100% brightness. It got decently hot from excessive use(specifically when I was playing PUBG to check out graphics/performance). Since then, nothing. It gets warm during heavy use but it hasn't hit any uncomfortable levels. Maybe that was just a one day thing. I have since put a case on the phone which helps dissipate the heat. I know alot of users complained about the heat with this phone, my assumption is since it is so thin, there isn't any room for air to circulate inside the phone to cool it off, the battery is probably touching straight onto the board and screen. I remember replacing a battery on a moto x pure and the shape of the battery(Looked like this \_/ but more of a 10 degree angle) created a gap which allowed it to cool. The new battery which was flat now touches the board and it causes the phone to heat up more. So I would blame the thinness of the LG G7 for it's heating. I would rate it 4/5 because even though it doesn't get burning hot, it does warm up more than my previous phones(except the htc 10)
The heat management of the internals as well as CPU is superb. On a fine day of temps 30*C, the minimum temps are 27*C and max 36*C on a normal usage. I hope in 3 years time, the battery shouldn't degrade fast like it's predecessors. I hope the battery capacity should stay 3000 mAh in very long term usage. The old phones would feels hot, therefore the battery capacity had reduced.
I don't really play games on phones (I have a PC and PS4 for that) but it does heat up when quick charging wirelessly. Nothing alarming but noticeable.
It's gets warm, but not as bad as the previous G series.

I often play games such as COD and PUBG at full graphics settings the phone supports, not heating to a point concerning me.
Pubg
Been playing Pubg and the phone does get a little warm - but nothing concerning at all.
Plays nicely too!

I play 1-2 matches of Auto Chess a day, the phone never gets hot and you can play fine at max settings.
In comparison my previous phone Huawei P9 Lite, always gets hot and starts to lag significantly from Round 20.
I also play pubG and COD and after 5' phones' upper front and back are getting very very hot. It is also getting hot even when just charging...

I got 12 hours of playing and still left on 20% battery, I play without pause!!
The temperature was about 37 38 degrees..
I have also make a thread about this on Mi Community..
This phone is so good that..I can describe it..
Heating.. no.
This is just make up from peoples who dont know how to properly use phone or measure temperature..

Not a heavy gamer, but haven't noticed any significant heat issues.

My Phone maxes out at 47°C at heaviest of loads like playing PUBG WITH HDR+90fps in room temperature of 35°C and under just Ceiling fan.
While Playing Asphalt 9 under Same Circumstances the temperature never crossed 41°C
The Heating Dissipation is Spot on and it quite literally makes that lower portion hot but it's tolerable and it cools down quickly.
865+ phones will always heat up it's quite normal the good thing is how is the heat dissipation just so that the performance never throttles and it's very good in this device.
Normal Usage never makes the phone heat up from the ambient temperature much (+/-4°C)
While X Mode does heat up the phone i prefer not using it as it doesn't make much difference (as the phone is already too fast) while playing PUBG/Asphalt and it drains the battery quite quickly.

Yes you are correct ROG3 XMode 100% Doesn't make any difference when you Play PubG bcoz the phone already have 865 snapdragon and 650 gpu. that is why everytime i played PUBG i dont need to turn on XMODE.
I keep playing Normal mode Off XMODE Smooth+90hz in pubg even my ROG 1 first generation.
Hi guys! Have someone tried playing on an external monitor with mobile Dock? I got 50°C tonight playing Cod mobile max settings, even using mobile Dock fan at max speed.
heat on 865+ vs. 865 versions
Can anyone here speak on the differences between the 865+ and 865 versions in terms of heat? Do they both run uncomfortably hot or is the 865 better in that regards? thx in advance

To answer my own question, I did end up getting the 865+ version and so far, even with 2+ hours of gaming (Honor of Kings, capped at 60fps, X-Mode off), my phone has yet to hit 40 C. Usually hovers around 38 C.

OK let me clearify, 41c is extremely cool. The reason the Phone feels hotter to the touch than other phones is because the Rog3 has an amazing cooling system. It uses the screen and chassy to cool down the components which is extremely effective. Other phones hit easily 90c+ on internal components.
The fact that the phone gets 40+c hot is proof that the cooling works 100%. If you feel its too hot for your taste, get a cover or use a controller.
This phone is really cool compared to what I used to have. Only time I felt the phone hot was when I made a huge amount of bench as the phone recognize bench apps and go overboard on thermals.
With any games I don't feel much heat, it is like if I was using another phone only for web browsing or read mangas. With the huge copper chamber (for a phone) and the real heat sink on the back this phone really stay cool.
I concur with Danishblunt, the phone does feels warmer (or hotter, depending on taste) when gaming, but as opposed to other phones, the warm sensation is more distributed on the back of the phone, rather than just on a localized spot.
This is due to the heatsinks/vapor chamber cooling, so it does its job.
I bought a case (not the aesthetic one included on the box) and it feels good. Temperature wise, the sensation is less warm than without case.
