S9 Lineage port to the s8 line ? - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

Would this even be possible. I know that it is ported using the treble, but wouldn't you be able to somehow port the kernel firm and GPU firm ?
I mean, someone out there should be able to do it, just if it's worth the time.
Sadly i am just and graphic designer, i don't know much about coding.

Would be great if treble was somehow ported but I've given up hope.

i did that on the s7 line, but then when s8 came. A suddenly lineage version came out for the s7's.
So yes, i would give up too for now. Bu i am swtiching form phone to phone all the time. And i keep getting back to the note 8
For the size, and i haven't found a phone yet like it.

It would be great indeed but it's not going to happen.
Developers already said that they won't try to port TREBLE to the S8. It would probably be too much work

Gathering team to port 6.0 AOSP to the S5

Hi everyone,
I currently found an AOSP 6.0 Marshmallow port for the OnePlus One. I'm a slight new to this but im ready and willing to learn how to do all of this from source. The OnePlus One has the same chipset, cpu, and gpu so it shouldnt be impossible to get this up and running. Anyone interested in contributing to the cause pm me or post on this thread .
Once I am interested in such things , but later I found it is too hard and lack of info :<

Well its all plain experience and trying and trying over and over till it works. Its quite a lot of work its possible just to wait for everything to happen from the cm team but thats really gonna take a while and im sure with enough knowledge and enough hard workers its possible to pull it off. Especially since a device with near the same hardware has marshmallow ported

Well he was probably trying to kang port it. You need to build it from the source. Port the kernel from source and the same with the source for the rom itself. Its not easy but it can be done. I may give it a go myself even if no one can help or wants to.

So what will it take to get LineageOS on the SM-T580?

I love the T580. The screen is nice, speed is good, and though it has smaller storage it's livable.
So of course I want to break it.
I'm willing to put in the time to try my hand at building LineageOS for it, but I'm not too familiar with the innards of the Tab A 10.1.
I try to get devices that can and will eventually be rooted for custom ROMs, but it seems the Tab A is falling under the radar.
If anyone has any tips on how to begin to build for this device, I'll start researching it on my off time. I'm finishing a semester of college with a paper and test coming up, but I could use something to take a break from it all.
I would love lineageOS on the galaxy tab A 10.1. I think this is probably somewhat more doable now that lineageos has been ported to exynos devices (S7)., though still rather difficult given the historic challenges of exynos processors.
I would start by checking out the development threads for the S7:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...-unofficial-lineageos-14-1-galaxy-s7-t3529197
Also check out the exynos lineageOS repos:
https://github.com/search?q=org:LineageOS+exynos
I believe the SM-T580 has the 7870 octa processor, which hasn't (to my knowledge) been worked on yet.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exynos
I also believe that the 2015 galaxy tab s2 had an exynos processor, and it has had CM/Lineage for a long time.

Everytime Samsung adds internal storage, they also pile in more bloatware. I'm happy to add the storage I need with the SDcard.
It looks like Samsung's new 2017 A series of phones will have the Exynos 7870 chipset, and they're testing for Android 7.0 now. Maybe when it's released we can get the device/vendor/kernel for it, as someone will probably work on getting Lineage to those phones.
Edit: Found a device and kernel github. Now all we need is vendor and we can do an initial build, correct?
Putting the githubs here for notes and comments on usability.
Device:
https://github.com/Siddhant-Naik/android_device_samsung_exynos7870-common
Kernel:
https://github.com/jony1512/android_kernel_samsung_exynos7870
I'll throw my name in the hat for beta tester. I'm super excited to see AOSP on this beast of a tablet.

Yeah, I've had a T810 and T710 and tried all of the custom ROM. Not a single one of them was fully functional. No mic, no bluetooth, no fingerprint, no Netflix or Hulu. The list goes on and on. One ROM will some fixes and another one, other fixes, but not one of them has all the fixes.

Unless there's a way to pull the vendor files to at least try to start compiling, probably. I've been looking but I don't see anything popping up for this device.
I'm going to see what I can do when I have time next week to see if I can make my own vendor files. If I can get that going maybe I can make something work.
I don't know how any of this stuff works (I am just a huge cyanogen/lineage fan), but Android 7 is on it's way for the SM-T580 and maybe this will change things?
wi-fi.org/product-finder-results?keywords=SM-T580&op=Search&form_build_id=form-E2SKAR_pL0qT-lyXzsaO3tC2FxauQYig4_Bdh2ULq1o&form_id=wifi_cert_a pi_simple_search_form
So I tried to compile LOS14.1 yesterday to no avail. I don't know if I'm doing it right and if the name of the build is mine (it shows #1 as full-eng, and the list doesn't include the board name build). I keep getting errors when it tries to build ninja saying it can't find "bacon", but did I mean "racoon".
If anyone has any experience building let me know what you do. The tutorials I've been trying to use aren't really set up for troubleshooting even when you follow them to the letter.
So Nougat is hitting the T580. Any one know how to pull the drivers and other needed files to make Lineage?

I wouldn't just yet. I'm taking at shot at Android 7.1.2 for the Tab A (Exynos Wi-Fi). It's going to have to be AOSP:good:
Stay awesome,

Wow! When I hear ? a few, that got me excited. I've found the kernel and binary source and soon my computer will be chugging along. This is my FIRST custom rom. Hope it works
My sister actually has a SM-T580 but she won't let me do any testing on it. ROM should be ready this weekend. I'm going to need some help with testing.

Which Android version/ROM?

Any chance of AOSP rom for S8?

Not trying to offend anyone, but just genuinely curious as to why the S9 has LineageOS and RR but not the S8? Aren't they more or less the same devices? Sorry if I offended anyone.?
The S9 ships with project Treble so drivers are not an issue. The S8 however does not and will not get it so it's a pain to get stuff working properly.
It might be pain but some people got money :v
Still, is there any work being done with the S8 such that a Treble-based HAL could be built without Samsung's assistance? Sounds like it would only need to happen once this time instead of requiring a rework for each successive AOSP update as it has in the past.
im gonna get rid of my s8 soon if there is not gonna be any aosp roms made for it,dont want too but samsung roms boring me now lets hope someone makes it soon

Will S8 Get Lineage OS 16 / Anyone Developing ?

I was wondering isnt there any developer working on a Lineage OS 16 rom for our beloved phone. I mean Galaxy s9 Has, but don't we?!
Not really. There are no developers investing time and efforts in the Galaxy S8. Maybe, some lucky day we will get lineage os 16 on our S8, but that will be after the S8 recieves the pie update and samsung releases their kernel source code for it.
The S9 has LineageOS because it has treble. Google it to find out more. Treble makes it a lot more easier for devices to be developed on and appear more appealing to the developers. Personally I have no hope we will recieve LineageOS ever
Cross your finger for Samsung giving the Galaxy S8 Treble support in the Pie update...

This device was out when Treble was starting out, they'd have added it to Oreo by now if they wanted it to support Treble...
They're not gonna give an incentive to buy one of their old phones.

There is a "guy" but since everyone who started making ROMs , scammed people on money , I wouldn't expect anything . There is lineageos15 almost bugless . Newest build had ril working and most of stuff WITHOUT sound working on speaker and GPS. Sound was working only with headphones. But I don't have a link 4 it . I have link 4 lineage from this https://youtu.be/2l_2f4EwQRc = no GPS , no camera , no ril, no bt and sound only come from headphones
The build in the youtube video is the build from Ivan. Ivan was the main developer for Lineage, and his newest build is the one shown in the video. He currently is not developing for the s8 as far as I know.

one ui 2.0

hi there, when we will get the one ui 2.0 custom rom for our Samsung S8 devices?
Maybe when you create it.
Not soon alteast, even I doubt that a custom ROM with OneUI 2.0 will exist lol, 2hard

S7 has OneUI 1.0 with Pie ports so if it can be done there it shouldn't be impossible here. We only need someone that can do it.

That's because the Note 7 FE (same chip as the S7/S7E) was released with Android 7 and got updated until Pie, so they didn't have to port everything to the S7/S7E by scratch, they had a base already
The problems start when you want something you got no idea of programming. People don't work on demand, they do what the like to do because the can do. And they are helpful to those who can't do it when they share their result FOR FREE! Nothing more.

Exactly, that's why I say to not have any hope for OneUI 2.0, someone have to want to work in his/her free time, on something very difficult, and for free.
I'm already grateful with LineageOS 17.1, I though I wouldn't see even 10.0 on the S8/S8+ lol
Such a shame for Samsung even the cheapest Plastic Galaxy A series are getting Android 10 one ui 2.0 and the Samsung flagship device like Galaxy S8+ is not going to get it. Plz XDA developers make a custom rom for Galaxy S8+ based on Android 10 one ui 2.0
never samsung buy again. stuck only 2 updates so sayed.
