Will S8 Get Lineage OS 16 / Anyone Developing ? - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

I was wondering isnt there any developer working on a Lineage OS 16 rom for our beloved phone. I mean Galaxy s9 Has, but don't we?!

Not really. There are no developers investing time and efforts in the Galaxy S8. Maybe, some lucky day we will get lineage os 16 on our S8, but that will be after the S8 recieves the pie update and samsung releases their kernel source code for it.
The S9 has LineageOS because it has treble. Google it to find out more. Treble makes it a lot more easier for devices to be developed on and appear more appealing to the developers. Personally I have no hope we will recieve LineageOS ever

Cross your finger for Samsung giving the Galaxy S8 Treble support in the Pie update...

This device was out when Treble was starting out, they'd have added it to Oreo by now if they wanted it to support Treble...
They're not gonna give an incentive to buy one of their old phones.

There is a "guy" but since everyone who started making ROMs , scammed people on money , I wouldn't expect anything . There is lineageos15 almost bugless . Newest build had ril working and most of stuff WITHOUT sound working on speaker and GPS. Sound was working only with headphones. But I don't have a link 4 it . I have link 4 lineage from this https://youtu.be/2l_2f4EwQRc = no GPS , no camera , no ril, no bt and sound only come from headphones

The build in the youtube video is the build from Ivan. Ivan was the main developer for Lineage, and his newest build is the one shown in the video. He currently is not developing for the s8 as far as I know.

Samsung rom

can somebody port Samsung based roms from samsung Galaxy on5(2016) or Galaxy c5(2016) variants......
This devices have Snapdragon 617 processor...
Hence, i thought that port would be possible..
and one more thing i would like to mention is that even blackberry dtek50 also has Snapdragon 617 chipset.. blackberry devices.. might be very secure than other android devices in market.. hence.. it is also worth to consider for porting.. i feel..
can someone do this
please do comment what you people think of this.. :highfive:
I honestly think that nobody hates so much his Moto G4 as for porting a Lagwiz Samsung rom.
Security begins in your head. And I agree, I personally don't want crappie bloated Samsung rom. I think people bought g4 primary for the stock feeling. And that blackberry is secure... That was beyond android based os. The new os isn't worth it.
Is this thread a joke? Why did you bought a phone with vanilla Android if you want a phone with TouchWiz????

well i do like stock rom.. but i would like to use port rom rather than a custom rom like lineage os.. since they consume a lot of battery.. and are less stable.. and are very buggy..

Seems you have not tested InvictaOS and official RR yet
but the new grace ux is worth giving a try it will be a like a change from the vanilla android....and yess it cant take place of the invictaOS but still iit will be great if someone looks into it

You are right in that, but partially.
The firsts builds of CyanogenMod 14.0 / LineageOS 14.1 were pretty unstable for a most long period, if we take CyanogenMod 13.0 as our last comparation subject, CM 13 was unstable just the firts two months, after that, worked very fine in the majority of the devices (officially supported ones).
But LineageOS suffered from having more codebase troubles (not only device specifically issues). It's very understandable because Nougat brought several script changes, which devs had to adapt to his sources.
And don't forget all the thing of moving to a new servers when CyanogenMod ceased to exist and became LineageOS, all this slowed the development.
But now, the LOS based roms are very very (sincerely) stable, i will recommend you to try the followings (all LOS based):
InvictaOS
Resurrection Remix
AOKP
LineageOS 14.1

Will there be LineageOS 15 for our 1+5's?

Well guy's, let's face it: Will there be official LineageOS 15 support running Oreo for our beloved 1+5?
Time will tell.. there are allready pretty good unofficial LOS (or LOS) based Oreo's outthere. For me personal i don't care, i will stick in the future on a nice AOSP based one
I don't see why there wouldn't be. It's not like it is an old device. And it's pretty dev friendly too.
Yes. There's no official version yet because LOS itself is not ready yet, not just for our device.
Blu Spark released a unified kernel that works on both the OP5 & 5T so it seems possible that there might also be unified builds of ROMs which would make it more likely the OP5 will continue to be supported. If unified ROM builds are very difficult or impossible then there's probably a good chance independent development will dry up for the OP5. The phone was only out for 4 months so it might be hard for devs to justify much more active development on the OP5.
I really hope that the development section won't ditch 1+5. I'm really enjoying this device so far.
LineageOS 15 would be such a blessing on this device
Of course it will be supported, it's already on the list of supported devices for Lineage and there's going to be official source so why wouldn't it be supported? LineageOS 15 isn't ready yet. Be patient.
Also, apparently they're going to go straight to 8.1 as a base so we probably won't get official LineageOS 15, it'll go straight to 15.1.
See their recent announcement here.

It may be on the immediate list of supported devices but be realistic--the OP5 was on the market for 4 months. How long do you think developers will continue to support a device that the manufacturer clearly didn't care about?

Are you serious? There are 5 yr old devices still supported by LineageOS, the Nexus 4 for example : https://download.lineageos.org/mako (Released 13 November 2012), even the OnePlus One and 2 are still supported and they're 2 and 3 yrs old.
Chill out, the OP5 will be supported for quite a while.
As for the OP5 being on the market for 4 months, everyone knew the 5T was coming, the exact same thing happened with the 3/3T, those now have unified builds, the same thing will happen with 5/5T, there's no emergency here. lol
Honestly.. There is a Thread about unofficial Oreo LineageOS already out in the Dev- Section. So what is this about? A bit of looking around would have answered that question
I was just curious about if it will be official or not. I'm aware of the fact that there are already some builds up and running.

S9 Lineage port to the s8 line ?

Would this even be possible. I know that it is ported using the treble, but wouldn't you be able to somehow port the kernel firm and GPU firm ?
I mean, someone out there should be able to do it, just if it's worth the time.
Sadly i am just and graphic designer, i don't know much about coding.
Would be great if treble was somehow ported but I've given up hope.

i did that on the s7 line, but then when s8 came. A suddenly lineage version came out for the s7's.
So yes, i would give up too for now. Bu i am swtiching form phone to phone all the time. And i keep getting back to the note 8
For the size, and i haven't found a phone yet like it.
It would be great indeed but it's not going to happen.
Developers already said that they won't try to port TREBLE to the S8. It would probably be too much work

One Ui Pie update for S7 & S7 Edge

Why isn't there a one UI ported rom for our device when we get AOSP ROMS WITH PIE working on our device??
As long as s8 can get one ui pie is it doable porting it on our device??
Sorry for the noob question

But that's based on oreo and not pie
I get your point but porting an entire OS from scratch can be a lot of work. Not all developers have the knowledge/ are willing to put in the effort for completing the task successfully. Especially since developers do what they do for free.

we hope that the 7 FE gets the pie update, with that update the devs can port it to S7 very easely

From what i saw note fe wasn't in the list that Samsung published about the devices that will get the pie update. I really hope they update note fe to pie so we can get pie too because note fe and s7 have the same internals if i am not mistaken?

note fe was in the list a few months ago, but now itsn't :/
If Note FE is getting it then I thought samsung can just port it to s7 S7 edge easily, but then they can't do that because the Americans will go nuts with their S7 permanently stuck on version behind the rest of the world...
Note FE has started recieving the ONE UI update so are there any developers willing to port it for S7 Edge?
@sac23 is working on a port for our devices
Pretty excited and eagerly waiting for the rom

Lineage ROM support dropped ... what a pity ! Is there an alternative ?

Does anyone know what ROM to install on a LG G6 to keep it safe for at least 2-3 years ?
A few months ago, I bought a second hand LG G6 H870 for its camera quality !
At that time, I thought that I could keep it "updated" at least for safety patches with a LINEAGE ROM beyond "the usual 2-years limit" more or less granted by sellers and Brands.
Unfortunately, Lineage DEV dropped their support for this phone ...
In other words, I was cheated by LG ... and i was cheated by LINEAGE ....
Who's next ?
Help me make sense !
You can use the camera even if you don't have the last update
You can simply use stock rom, debloat it and you will see, it's quite good experience. You can use Gcam also, there is thread with the best version in this forum

Yeah we still have one major update and a few security patches left from LG. It's not like the phone is completely abandoned.
Also, yup this man is right, you can perfectly use GCAM on stock software.

What makes you say that?
Lineage 16.0 is currently being developed for all LG msm8996 devices (g5,g6,v20).

The info is on the official Wiki : https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/h870
Of course, I don't talk about any Lineage roms eventually and unofficially developped on xda ... by a "lone" developper ...
I hate to say so, but if the official Lineage OS (or any other official and alternative ROM to the stock one) is droppred after 2 years, it defeats the purpose .... if the game is to extend the support for expensive gadgets ... and break the commercial practices BRANDS enforce on consumer ....

That page probably says that because in the past G6 was officially supported (I didn't check, but probably Lineage 14?).
Anyway, like I said Lineage 16.0 is being developed. It's not official, but you can't expect it to be when it's not quite ready yet.
Development has been slow on these LG devices. For me personally, on G5, it's not been an attractive option, but it's getting there
and likely will be official when it's ready.
Edit: It's mainly x86cpu which is developing now https://review.lineageos.org/q/owner:x86cpu.
So you see, I'm not talking about all those random roms that are about. Although some of their work probably will help.

Thanks Silver Wx,
You seem to understand very well what is going on with BRANDS such as LG, SAMSUNG, ONEPLUS, APPLE, and whatever **** !
Yes stock rom is a good experience ! Except when security support is dropped after 2 years ...
In case you missed my point, LINEAGE OS "was" a warranty a +3-5 years supported phone ...
What kind of buyer are you Silver Wx ?
Every 2 years, you buy a new phone ?
Go back to school ....
