I love the T580. The screen is nice, speed is good, and though it has smaller storage it's livable.
So of course I want to break it.
I'm willing to put in the time to try my hand at building LineageOS for it, but I'm not too familiar with the innards of the Tab A 10.1.
I try to get devices that can and will eventually be rooted for custom ROMs, but it seems the Tab A is falling under the radar.
If anyone has any tips on how to begin to build for this device, I'll start researching it on my off time. I'm finishing a semester of college with a paper and test coming up, but I could use something to take a break from it all.
I would love lineageOS on the galaxy tab A 10.1. I think this is probably somewhat more doable now that lineageos has been ported to exynos devices (S7)., though still rather difficult given the historic challenges of exynos processors.
I would start by checking out the development threads for the S7:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...-unofficial-lineageos-14-1-galaxy-s7-t3529197
Also check out the exynos lineageOS repos:
https://github.com/search?q=org:LineageOS+exynos
I believe the SM-T580 has the 7870 octa processor, which hasn't (to my knowledge) been worked on yet.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exynos
I also believe that the 2015 galaxy tab s2 had an exynos processor, and it has had CM/Lineage for a long time.

Everytime Samsung adds internal storage, they also pile in more bloatware. I'm happy to add the storage I need with the SDcard.
It looks like Samsung's new 2017 A series of phones will have the Exynos 7870 chipset, and they're testing for Android 7.0 now. Maybe when it's released we can get the device/vendor/kernel for it, as someone will probably work on getting Lineage to those phones.
Edit: Found a device and kernel github. Now all we need is vendor and we can do an initial build, correct?
Putting the githubs here for notes and comments on usability.
Device:

Kernel:
https://github.com/jony1512/android_kernel_samsung_exynos7870
I'll throw my name in the hat for beta tester. I'm super excited to see AOSP on this beast of a tablet.

Yeah, I've had a T810 and T710 and tried all of the custom ROM. Not a single one of them was fully functional. No mic, no bluetooth, no fingerprint, no Netflix or Hulu. The list goes on and on. One ROM will some fixes and another one, other fixes, but not one of them has all the fixes.

Hi at all.
Have You some idea about SM-T585 ? Is it possible to acquire flash contents ? Is it possible to root it without lose anything ? Thanks :good:

Unless there's a way to pull the vendor files to at least try to start compiling, probably. I've been looking but I don't see anything popping up for this device.
I'm going to see what I can do when I have time next week to see if I can make my own vendor files. If I can get that going maybe I can make something work.
I don't know how any of this stuff works (I am just a huge cyanogen/lineage fan), but Android 7 is on it's way for the SM-T580 and maybe this will change things?
wi-fi.org/product-finder-results?keywords=SM-T580&op=Search&form_build_id=form-E2SKAR_pL0qT-lyXzsaO3tC2FxauQYig4_Bdh2ULq1o&form_id=wifi_cert_a pi_simple_search_form
So I tried to compile LOS14.1 yesterday to no avail. I don't know if I'm doing it right and if the name of the build is mine (it shows #1 as full-eng, and the list doesn't include the board name build). I keep getting errors when it tries to build ninja saying it can't find "bacon", but did I mean "racoon".
If anyone has any experience building let me know what you do. The tutorials I've been trying to use aren't really set up for troubleshooting even when you follow them to the letter.
So Nougat is hitting the T580. Any one know how to pull the drivers and other needed files to make Lineage?

My sister actually has a SM-T580 but she won't let me do any testing on it. ROM should be ready this weekend. I'm going to need some help with testing.

Okay so I just got my hands on the Tab E today. My Note Pro 12.2 has been giving me a lot of problems so I figured I'd get something else for more frequent use. And the Tab E was the best one I found.
But I was wondering, why has CM13 just now come to the Tab E? It's been out for over a year hasn't it? Does it usually take so long to get out the first custom rom for a tablet?
If so are more going to start showing up now? At least updates to the CM13 as the developer works on it?

1. A custom ROM can only be made if a potential developer has the target device.
2. I acquired said device just this weekend. I only made a ROM for this device because I had it, I couldn't have done it otherwise.
3. To make ROMs for other devices, I would need to have said devices, or they'd have to be very similar to the one I have in order for me to be certain of any potential custom ROMs working.
4. If you have device requests, send them. If they meet condition (3) above and I have the time, I might be able to make a cm ROM for them.
Oh I wasn't complaining about anything, I can't thank you enough for creating a custom rom for the Tab E. :3 And it works really well. :3 I can't wait to see how you build it up over time. And I also hope one day you do Lineage 14.

My device for example(Huawei Y6) was only stock ROM. I have a custom ROM since May 2016. Yeah. My phone isn't very popular but finally some developer bought this device and now I have 70% working cm13 ROM.

Pretty much what the title says, nobody uses the Tab E it seems. and when nobody uses it how is there supposed to be kernels and roms developed for it? Though I'm itching to see a good kernel pop up so I can overclock

The reason my Noire kernel does not offer overclock is because it is placebo. I have tested all known overclock code for this processor, and the highest known claims to go to 1.8ghz, yet when the system is claiming to run at 1.8ghz, the benchmarks are the same as stock.
There is no real overclock for this device.
I'm back on Verizon after switching to Sprint back in 2008. So I recently picked up a mint condition Verizon Note 4 so I could have a little fun building a new Note 7 port ROM. Many of you may know me as the creator of the Ultimate Note 7 ROM for the Sprint Note 4. I'm here to tell all of you that I've been working on a new Ultimate Note 7 ROM for the Verizon Note 4. It is nearly ready for public beta release! With the experience I have porting Samsung Touchwiz ROM's. I figured it is long overdue for the Verizon Note 4 users. My port ROM has official and original Verizon Note 7 framework, apps, etc. So instead of trying to make international port ROM's work, which is no simple task unless you know what you're doing, get ready for a true Verizon compatible Note 7 ROM. Those of you who still have your Verizon Note 4 and want to get more life and use from it with a fresh look and feel, look for a new ROM thread soon.
I need a few reliable and knowledgeable testers. If you can help troubleshoot and test the rom, please install Telegram app on your PC and your phone and join my Hybrid Port ROM's group so you can have access to the the test ROM and join the rest of us who are ready to get this thing going. See you there!

The S8 and N8 ROM's are Nougat 7.0. The N4 has been cut off at Android 6.0 and doesn't have official Samsung Nougat 7.0 kernel source, therefore the Snapdragon N4 can't run Android 7.0. ROM's. If this was possible we would have a lot of excited dev's continuing to build 7.0 TouchWiz ROM's for the N4. Unfortunately Marshmallow 6.0 is all we have for the N4 so the N7 Marshmallow software and perhaps some ported S8/N8 apps is as good as it gets for the N4. What i'm doing is building a solid N7 base ROM for the Verizon N4. Once it's ready I will upload it as a stock base rom. Other dev's can use my base to build out custom ROM's with mods, ROM control, Xposed, etc, etc. This will eliminate the need to fix any network related features. It will all work as it should. International N7 port ROM's are not compatible with the U.S. CDMA carrier's features. This is why we need a true Verizon N7 base rom. I know it's a little late and many people have upgraded to newer phones but if there's still users here wanting to run a proper Verizon N7 ROM, this will be it.
With this said, I welcome any and all testers and dev's to pitch in and help test and troubleshoot minor bugs. PM me if you're interested in helping with this. The ROM is 100% complete and operational but I'm working on minor bugs with a few system apps.

I realize the Note 4 has been cut off at Android 6.0, but how are devs able to come up with a 7.1.2 ROM for it? User hsbadr has three: LineageOS, ResurrectionRemix. and EmotionOS (this one seems to be discontinued). I haven't used any of his ROMs for quite some time, because they seem a bit buggy, to me, but that's beside the point I'm getting at. How is he able to make a 7.0 ROM and others can't seem to? That said, why wouldn't an 8.0 ROM be possible?

Hello, I am still rocking the note 4 Verizon. And I will be keeping it as long as devoted members such as yourself put out great roms! That being said I would like to be a beta tester if you so need one. I have a little knowledge in troubleshooting and the like, mostly my expertise is in repairing and building phones. I have a whole closet that's devoted to phone parts repair, and computer systems repair. My last few phones I have held on to until the dev section went quiet, note 2, Moto atrix, moto bionic... they were awesome with deodexed/rooted roms... I am addicted to flashing new roms to find the right balance between performance and battery...
By the way, one slight request, when all said and done fixing most of the bugs, don't forget to make sure the rom has a kernel that is compatible with extended batterys. Most of us holding out with our outdated note 4, usually have those huge batteries hanging off the back...lol

I really don't mess with kernels. That's not really my forte. If needed, I would just ask someone to build one. But since there's already one available and it happens to be from Verizon source I will use it and give credit. But I may request a new kernel from the latest source once I get the rom ready.

I think I may have the CQL1 source kernel ready. I've been running it since Tues and was thinking of posting it soon. If you, or anyone else, wants to try it out you can download it here.
The source code is here for those interested.
The changes are the same as the ones for the 910F beta kernel that was posted the other day.
Change Log:
Backported the 3.18 Linux version of Interactive Governor
Add patch for USB fast charge
Add Sound Controls- so far this hasn't negatively impacted anything but it's definitely the change I'm most concerned about and will probably make a separate version without this in the future. Be careful with this. Had my earbuds in and it gets very loud.
LED fade control
Completely reworked the thermal temperature control. So far the temperature has been throttling down pretty good when it goes above the set temp. I've been setting mine on the lowest setting.
Added zswap control
Extended Battery patch is included
On a personal note, I'm very excited to see a port rom that's not built with an international firmware. If there's anything I can help with let me know. My skills are somewhat limited but every now and again I can get lucky.
Thanks Kevin. What I want to do is get the stockish base N7 ROM done then see if there's somebody who wants to take it to the next level and add mods, rom control etc, etc. I know a lot of people like the custom mods, xposed, etc but these days I really don't care for that stuff as long as everything works as it should i'm happy. So if you know of someone who could take on that task once I get the base ROM finished, then that would be great for everyone who wants the custom stuff. And I can take a break. I'll pm some of you once the test build is ready. We'll need to test the basic functions like bluetooth NFC, wifi, etc. It should all work because i've ported these roms before so I know what all i have to do. I'll get the test rom ready as soon as i can as time permits. I'm going over framework getting it debugged and making sure it's a smooth and zippy as i can make it.

I don't use xposed anymore... too much of a hassle to get through some apps that look for it and are diabled from xposed...
Couple brainstorming requests, or something... lol
the people Edge should work properly... I've had so many TW roms that are half done and people Edge is boinked..
Something with note 7 roms and task manager is buggy on note 4...
There is a fingerprint work around for ported roms, if we could get a good, understandable write up to make that work, that would be appreciated.
TW launcher should be themeable... some ports I've tried have that boinked as well.
The brightness on some ports has an issue with not dimming, or high brightness when in sunlight and darkness...
Mostly stock feel and look is quite nice though.

All of the things you mentioned will be working, except fingerprint scanner. That is a lot harder to pull off and will be the very last thing on the to-do list. If it could be made to work other dev's would have figured it out by now without the N4 settings apk swap trick. But i will definitely try my best to get the fingerprint scanner working with my verizon N7 ROM. With Kevin's custom kernel this will be an amazing ROM for the Verizon N4! It's coming along great. It's raining all day today so i'm inside hammering away on the ROM.

Well it's never been accomplished by anyone as far as I know. I started working on the fingerprint scanner fix for my sprint UN7 ROM but I abandoned it due to the complexity and the time it takes to do it. It wasn't worth the amount of time and work. This is why it hasn't already been done. We'll see how it goes but I seriously doubt fingerprint scanner will be working on initial release. it's probably my biggest negative on running the N7 port ROM. I use fingerprint lockscreen even though it's the swipe method.
what is wrong with Samsung. every phone or tablet I get from them never gets updated. i have the tab a6 sm-t280
and everytime someone makes a post about this tablet, it gets ignored. i need you people to develop a custom rom for it something!! even android 6.0 would be better. Samsung is literally release a product and forget about it.
Maybe try looking at how much development there is for a device before you buy it.
I always first look here if there is at least development happening before I buy something.
All my devices got from Samsung at least 2 major upgrades and the rest thanks to all the developers here or on other forums

First of all, the T280 is an OLD tablet and NO maker upgrades one that old. Second of all, there ARE later ROMs made by these NON PAID VOLUNTEERS for the T280. If you are too dumb to find them, that's YOUR PROBLEM, not Samsung's or the people in this forum.
there are no roms. and i am not dumb

They might not be NEW roms but then again that tablet isn't new either. As long as the roms still work that doesn't really matter anyway.
You have to remember that ALL rom development is done by unpaid volunteers, none of them owe you anything. If you're not happy with the available roms then why not learn to build one yourself? Or switch to a newer device - but next time check before buying one how active the development is for it.

Hi all,
Does anyone know what roms are compatible with the Tab A 10.1 2019 version? I see a lot of roms for 2016 version but not for the 2019.
Running stock Nexus, and I don't have any complaints except that you hardly can customize it yourself. I have a bought icon pack but can't use it for example.
Greetings Rick
I've actually just flashed a number of ROM's for this baby in the last few weeks - there are plenty to play with.
I settled on this as I think it was the best overall:

Thank you for the time to respond Where are you looking for when finding a Rom. Im on Nexus stock aosp based. But there are still some things I would like to see different. As I only use the tab for 1 game. Still chrashes, issues with keyboard. So I don't mind customizing it.
Greetings from Holland
Yeah it's a good tab, for its price. So I'm kinda buffels by the fact that there is hardly one on this forum.

There are two other custom ROMs for the T510. LOS 17.1 and a Nexus version based on Android 9. I've been using the Nexus 10 one for months and have never had a crash or keyboard problem. Maybe it is the one game you play that has the problems.

Always a posibility, still i seem to have a habbit of trying stuff out.
Don't know if I should post this under OP but it's in the same line of it. Like I said love to tinker around with software for 10 years ago or something I got a budget phone that in the end would not update Android anymore so that was the moment I came to the conclusion that my model then was a better version of the original. Kinda like in this case, tab a 2016 and 2019 will differ in chipset etc. But tab a is tab a. So I started to go head in and toke a dive into the Android world, met some interesting people including the legendary Mr Carvalho. But... Im not posting this because I like to write or want you to read a book so let's cut to the case, im reading up a bit with customizing etc. Starting where I left off, installing ADB drivers again MTK drivers C++ all that good stuff. But then I kept reading, and correct me if I'm wrong but did you guys crack the code? The sometimes impossible to port source code? Or am I getting that GSI wrong. The software from the OD will be used to power the custom Rom so finding and combining code is almost a thing of the past? I tried to flash one last night to see if it really was that easy. Managed to get the tablet into a recovery bootloop. Installed the Nexus Rom again now the Los version. So I guess I did something wrong I think to know what it whas but before I make a paperweight from it, I think it's better to ask first.
So GSI, restrictions? Things to look for. Is it possible on this device?
Device is Treble ready
Supports A/B Arm
So it should right?
Off topic. This is a question for the Nexus Rom. Why are some Samsung features disabled? Like screen recording. Used multiple now all end up recording 0 or no internal audio. Other Samsung features like the camera, mail service etc. Only thing I'm searching for is the screen recording function with internal sound. Anny way to enable it or an alternative?
Thanks in advance.

Utter nonsense. The only thing "Tab A" tablets have in common is the name.

So I would like to start by saying great job, I agree with house things where set in place in the long run, I would say lets wait on future runs, just because it was future runs that caused an issuee. Either way thqanks for the recommendations but this seems like it will be a judge appointed issue., i appreciate everything but+
I use the Nexus, Android 10, AOSP-based rom from Magedanz. I works great, I tried LOS 17.1 and LOS based Nexus as well, but settled on the AOSP based due to the lack of support of the 400GB microsd I have in my T510 from LOS and the LOS based Nexus rom not able to read my microsd. The AOSP rom read it just fine and was able to format it correctly.
I just wanted to ask how many tab 2's are still living in this world. It's just out of curiosity because I saw 2-3 people still installing custom ROMs. I have one p3100 running lineage 13. Which rom are you on ??????
P5110 with RR 5.7.4 and no gapps. I'm very satisfied with it.
I tried to install Omni rom and Slim rom, Nougat version, but there were too many lags after a while. Maybe I'll try Andy's roms in their Marshmallow version.
I just resurrected my tablet with TWRP 3.4.0, Lineage 14.1 and Open Gapps due to Youtube problems with the original firmware. Working for about 12 hours, so far so good.

Yea I know YouTube problems too it just keeps telling update.
P5100 here still working and in use daily. Ahh, yeah... using android 6 and NO GAPPS.
Daily driving SailfishOS for a break from Android, its fun.
My P3113 is still living, but it is suffering from major battery degradation. It has Lineage OS 13. I'm planning to sell it though.

It would most likely be sold to a pawn shop.
I"m reviving my p510 using android andi's rom. Curently omnirom 7.1.2 no gapps. Got black line in the middle, and feels very slow (may be because got use to with much more newer phines). Before android andi's rom, it was lineageos and its much much slower until unusable. I think it's got hardware issue somewhere.

he uses a distribution of linux which is meant for developers like him, not the average consumer.
btw one of the google play store replacement is Aoura store, if you need to know it.
Aurora Store (Android)
An elegant Google Play alternative

probably at least 1389
I just revied mine. It's pretty old almost a decade, or IDK even more? Tab 2 7" GT-P3100. I have installed Resurrection Remix by @smart-t78 and Noob Kernel by @bipindr123 because of the sweet 1.2 GHz overclock. I have installed it yesterday. Batteryis alright. extSD card port not working. Ther's a bit orangish tint on top left, but overall usable completely.
There are some stuff though which I want to clear. In the default launcher if you are home screen and rotate your Tab then you have this ugly gray overlay/shadow on left and right side of the screen, I'm trying to get rid of it. Looks like I will need to download a launcher or something. Also want to change the fonts and icon. Just that. Also AdAway is not getting installed, seems like I have to install and older version because it says it cannot parse the APK package while instealling.
I want to use this tab as a secondary monitor to my PC, look for it how to do it, but first theme stuff.
I also will suggest to root your device and then use some kind of kernel editor to choose governor for CPU (default is Interactive which works alright) and also tweet I/O scheduler according to your need. Look for the guides of these things if you are not familiar with the terms.
Just bought a GT2 P5110 for 30€ in almost new condition. Want to upgrade to a custom Rom before I do anything else because this is easier when there is nothing on it.
Research suggests I should stick with Marshmallow - currently going to try RR5.7.4 first with Omni6.0.1 as a reserve (unless anyone has a better experience with an equivalent or newer ROM).
Not sure whether I am going to add Gapps or not yet. I am probably going to want to have (at a minimum) Google Calendar access and perhaps Gmail. What do people recommend?
Any other thoughts on rooting, Magisk, custom kernels etc to get better stability (and performance)?

This is why I posted here. I have done this sort of custom upgrade on other devices but new to Tab 2 - so I want to make sure I am going in the right direction before I make a mistake.
So what is your recommendation? Leave it on the stock 4.2.2?

If you can't stop using gapps than yes stay on stock..
If you can live without gapps than you can use any newer ROM and use f-droid store app.

I am currently on RR 5.7.4 Android 6 with slim gapps and it is very stable, as fast as stock and no lags. But I had to try various Gapps before slim and they all had problems.
