Is there Google HDR+ Cam port for A5 2016? - Galaxy A3, A5, A7, A8, A9 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

As in the subject - is there a port for Google's HDR+ Camera, possibly as APK, so we could install it without root?

Why not? There is one for the "S" series, including S7, so why not for ours?
EDIT: I even found something that mentions A models too, unfortunately, I don't know the lingo and google translation is rubbish:

Translation : As I said above, the Gcam that ive shared supports Exynos chipsets. So what's stopping us from trying it on other Samsung devices with the Exynos (he made a typo with Exnos here) chipsets like J,A,C series?
He never said that it's possible. He just asks the readers to try on their phones themselves. This is the bad news because it won't work.

Most likely A5 2017. I don't think it's possible on 2016 model. It's a pity, since 2016 has better camera than newer model and even OiS implemented.
It could be possible on ROOTed phone, after modifying build.prop, but you would need to wait for someone to confirm that first, as it's only my guess.

[Q]Support For BroadCom?

Hello everybody, i'm very excited with Cyanogen's new way and i must to say that it be a huge community for the device that i solicite support.

I've had experience with the chipset
I'm going to say, no this will not get official omni. I doubt you'd even get a stable 4.3. I'd like to say it can get this, but based on the past. I don't think it will
Sorry

If you've been to their IRC chat (at #omnirom in freenode) they plan to support legacy devices. However, it will take some time to get ARMv6 working.

There's a massive difference between "documented legacy device" and "undocumented nightmare". Broadcom falls quite firmly in the second category.
Same reason Rockchip is almost surely never to see support unless Rockchip changes their tune with regards to GPL violations, etc.

GPS - Galileo will be available?

Note 7 could connect to Galileo satellites, but what about S7? Is possible (technically) to connect to the new EU satellites? May Samsung will give us sw update?
I want to know that too
It is certainly possible on the S7/S7E with Snapdragon/Qualcomm chipset version (US) (But perhaps only a after a firmware upgrade - I don't have one to test).
What I'd like to know is about the S7/S7E version with the Exynos chipset. Found nothing about it and am starting to think it won't be supported (which would be ironic as it is the model sold in the EU, there Galileo originated).
I have an Exynos and it does not seem able to see any Galileo satellite, although it hasn't had any update lately.
Note 7 has (or had...) Exynos 8890 chip and Galileo support. S7 edge has Exynos 8890 too so in theory Galileo should work in S7 edge but most likely requires sw update.
Hi everyone.
Galileo started offering Early Operational Capability (EOC) on 15 December 2016 and is expected to reach Full Operational Capability (FOC) in 2019

So while the S7 has the ability to connect, that doesnt mean you will be able use it straight away. I would expect your ability to use it to be very random over the next 3 years as they continue to scale up the system.

What would improve?
Firstly, i want to distinguish between different systems. Whilst we (the public) say GPS to refer to all the systems as a whole, GPS is really the American NAVSTAR GPS system. For this post, GPS will refer to the American system.
The first improvement will be precision. The resolution is alot better. GPS is 5m whereas Galileo is 1m (note: GPS can do 1m precision but this is restricted to the US military)
Second improvement is reliability. GPS has been running since 1974 and so the satellites are going to start failing. Whilst they are likely to be replaced, priority is always given to the US military and third party use can be cut at anytime (just ask the Indians in 1999!)
Lastly is the nature of the system. As mentioned, GPS is a US military system and therefore use could be denied (war for example). The Galileo system however is primarily designed for emergencies such as search and rescue and natural disasters. Whilst politics of the EU could disrupt access, its more likely Donald Trump will cut access of GPS unless you pay for it than the EU doing so!

Hi, news about Galileo and Galaxy S7/S7 edge (EU version-Exynos) with Android 7 ?
Can Galaxy S7 operate with Galileo?
If Note 7 is/was confirmed to support Galileo, then it would, in theory, be possible for Dev's to create a MOD to enable it on S7/S7 Edge with Exynos 8890; is it?

This has been discussed previously. Samsung added h/w level security to the Exynos 8895. Until it's in peoples hands no one knows for sure whether the changes will affect unlocking the bootloader.

Based on this, possibly none. If the only reason anyone is buying Exynos vs. S-835 is the unlocked bootloader you might want to hold off being the first to get it.
Finally, the Exynos 8895 also includes what Samsung is calling an “enhanced security sub-system with a separate security processing unit” for use with user authentication, mobile payments, and the like. Based on Samsung’s description this sounds a heck of a lot like Apple’s Secure Enclave, which would be a very welcome development, as in Apple’s case it has made their phones a lot harder to break into.

Its been compared to the Apple Secure Enclave (Security Coprocessor). Here's its description...
Security circuit designed to perform secure services for the rest of the SOC
Prevents main processor from gaining direct access to sensitive data
Used to support a number of different services - Most notably Touch ID
Runs its own operating system - Includes its own kernel, drivers, services, and applications
Sounds to me like anything security related is being moved to a separate and independent h/w coprocessor that's an integrated component of the SoC. The motive has to be a level of security that's as impenetrable as Apple's and significantly stronger than s/w based alternatives. Here's something Qualcomm got called out on recently...
A blog post published Thursday revealed that in stark contrast to the iPhone's iOS, Qualcomm-powered Android devices store the disk encryption keys in software. That leaves the keys vulnerable to a variety of attacks that can pull a key off a device. From there, the key can be loaded onto a server cluster, field-programmable gate array, or supercomputer that has been optimized for super-fast password cracking.
https://arstechnica.com/security/20...sk-encryption-just-got-much-weaker-heres-why/
This is a Samsung first being introduced on the 8895. What it means and how its implemented remain to be seen but that level of security investment by Samsung can't be good for things likely hackable bootloaders.
So wait, the snapdragon that USA is getting maybe easier to get an unlocked bootloader for? Based on this convo I am reading here?

waiting for the answer to this!
So no one with an Exynos variant has tried to unlock the bootloader yet? Come on! Give us an answer! NOT Snapdragon, but Exynos. No Snapdragon owners need reply as you do NOT know. Only Exynos owners can answer this question.
Last year was simple OEM unlock for Galaxy S7 Exynos variants, I've been told repeatedly. That's what I'm talking about, whether it's still that easy or not.
I'm not talking about needing a dev to do magic.
GALAXY S7 EXYNOS
To OEM unlock is very easy on the exynos models . In our model is allow to do it with the click of a button , you have to:
Go to Settings / About device / Software info / Tap 7 times on Build number to enable Developer
Once developer options are enable ( you will see it under Settings) enter there you will see the option OEM Enable

do you think project treble will ever be supported?

So I'm watching the treble news for the galaxy 9 and it's like a knife is turning in my back. I love the s8 hardware but the software, not so much. I have always preferred aosp but I don't like the pixel 2 xl's screen and I want a 2k display so no OnePlus. I hoped that the Oreo update for the s8 will bring project treble support like other OEM's did, but ofc Samsung screwed us one more time before the s9 launch. My question is: do you think that treble will ever come to the s8? Via official update from Samsung? or an xda developer port? :crying:
Because of how the system needs to be repartitioned, the only way to have treble is for the phone to come from the factory with treble set up.

I'm very pessimistic when it comes to Samsung and upgrades. There is no money in putting the extra work to bring Project Treble on another "old" phone.
So bad is Samsung software update strategy that I'm on October 2017 Security patch while March 2018 is already out!
(Australian non-branded XSA S8+ here). They haven't even released Oreo update for non-branded phones! These phones are meant to get updates first as they don't require telco "certification".
Having said that all that, I'm sticking to with Samsung as their hardware "just works". If Google released a phone of Samsung quality and with a Samsung AMOLED screen I'd switch in a heartbeat.
samsung probably won't add treble support because there is nothing to gain for them. they'd rather you buy a s9. there's a lot of software-only feature in these phones where they want you to buy new hardware, even thus they could easily do it on the old hardware. but it cost money (effort) and they don't get revenue for it (sales), and they're already one of the leading android phone maker, so they don't have to care. All this make it very unlikely.
community might add it somehow, eventually, who knows. I guess you could interface oreo drivers to wrappers or something like that...

Those companies care about its user, samsung on the other hand doesn't.
I saw that some Xiaomi phones got treble support un oficial( from Devs here on xda) maybe they can do the same for s8? I think the phone has to have a vendor partition tho
I think yes, because google demands companies to do so, and that means if they are going to use google's software, they have to respect their rules. But it probably will be supported after android pie update. At least s9 does support project t.

I think it is only possible for some devices with non-necesarry but existing special partitions. Redmi note 4 had a special partition for miui to store some specific data. And dev used that partition to bring project treble support. As i know sammy devices don't have any other partition except ordinary ones.
Nope. Not going to happen. It wouldn't help USA Snapdragon devices anyway, as Samsung isn't signing non stock images. For 95XF/FD & 95X0 you can probably fake it, which I'll explain below.

For exynos and non usa/canada phones only this is possible now, if someone reverse engineers the pit file format, or if the one someone came out with years ago still works.
An easier solution though is to just make hybrid images from existing gsi ROMs. Just open up a gsi image, paste in the vendor from a rom and voila! Samsung already moved all the config files around and simplified /vendor to /system/vendor so this should work just fine. I've been meaning to try but haven't gotten around to it yet
Im willing to try

I gave this a shot on a bl unlocked snapdragon a bit ago and had no luck. At least with snapdragon, there is more to it than that.
So no, this isn't something that I or anyone else can give you a set of exact steps to accomplish. There is way too many unknowns to possibly predict them all, as this would up being much more a development/porting project than I suspected.
I still think it's doable for my device, especially after learning a few things through running gsis on a device with full treble support, but it will still take understanding what is happening and being able to make decisions based upon logs and other development practices.
