Hi folks, had anyone else find their S8 to be slow on WiFi? My wife has been moaning it was slow and I thought it was just her needing a reason to moan For an easy life I decided to speed test it and it did seem slow so I tested again side by side against my Sony Z5. Sure enough the Z5 clicked 50meg and the S8 clocked under 10meg.
Seems strange. Is there a setting I can tweak it any other diagnostics I can do? TIA.
There can be lot of things.
I get over 90MB with WiFi. Make hard reset and when this doesn't work, check the router settings.
Do you have any bluetooth devices paired to the s8? Turn off bt on the phone and check then

did you find any problems and solutions? I have the same problem. not sure when did it start, the wifi became slow on my S8. about 4-6mb download next to the router. other devices pull 35mb which is the max of my cable. my wife's S8 which is the same model as mine is not slow. tested at work wifi, it was also slow, about 10mb out of 200mb bandwith. so evidence says it's my phone's problem. any ideas? :crying:

My ADSL connection can do 13Mb download & 1Mb upload, all computers achieve (also on wireless) this using either speedtest.bbmax.co.uk or speedtest.net. However my HD2 can only achieve 3.5-4Mb max using the same sites, upload is represented correctly. It seems to fly up very quickly then back down, for upload it takes a few seconds to check the speed for both sites. I used Opera 10 (Flash Lite 3).
Also on HSDPA it can only do ~0.5Mb but when tested in dongle it achieves ~2.5Mb, upload is represented correctly (1Mb) for both Vodafone and O2.
I've also tried the wireless N hack but this hasn't improved things.

There is no solution. HD2 performance on WI-FI are just bad. People don't care. The only justification they can give to this is "it's just a phone". Amen.

That sucks, my mates Omnia is also pretty bad on WiFi so I assume this is a WinMo problem?
Also I meant just O2 for 0.5/2.5 HSDPA thing, just checked Vodafone and got 3.5Mb / 1Mb.
Also doesn't the "it's just a phone" thing kinda wear off when you cross the £500 mark?

I don't know. Maybe it's WinMo but I don't have other Windows Phones to make comparisons.

I agree but these are the people that appear here when you criticize their toy.
Maybe enabling wifi-n will speed it up. I'd at least give that a try.
Also, I did a test, and I get exactly what I get on my laptop which is 5644kbps
I have been having issues with HSDPA on my HD2 for some time. I am with T-mobile UK... what I have found is that when I hard boot/reflash a new rom... HSDPA is full speed. However something triggers what I can only think is a GPRS only mode, at first I thought I had installed apps that affected networking but I don't believe that is the case now.
Yesterday for example I was in a shielded building and had no reception whatsoever... when I came out I could not connect to T-Mobile data so restarted my HD2 a few times then setup data again.... I am connected now but internet connectivity is really slow, I generally stream music but I can't do this and I may as well forget about YouTube.
I have spoken to T-Mobile about this in the past and they said there are no restrictions on my account. I also know (havng proved it before) that by going through the hassle of a hard reset/new rom flash HSDPA with work again.
I wonder if this is IP related but I am not sure how to check the configuration on Winmo. I also am unsure how/where to do a speedtest (Speedtest.net needs an updated version of flash).
Managed to get it sorted out.... sent the Tmobile settings from the Tmobile website to my phone. Then in my ROM (OMEGA) there is a enable 3G mode.... This seems a bit flaky to be honest... Anyway I selected the new Tmobile internet settings option in Connections, then flicked the 3G setting in connection manager on and off a few times...
In the status bar, rather than "G" and a small "G" with reception meter both show as "H" (this will differ to the rom you have probably).... main thing is streaming is back again

I've generally found 3G to be faster than WiFi and even the ping in some situations on WM phones.
my phone also gets around 2 to 3Mbps on the speed test with the wifi.. 700 or so with hspda and 500 or so with 3g.
isnt this the max rate of the memory card? perhaps the phone itself is slowing down the results?

3G speed depends heavily on the mast tech level and how many people are using it.
I am kinda having some crazy stuff going on. First does anyone have a good website to check download speeds? I am using I.dslr.net/tinyspeedtest.HTML.
I pick the 3G test I get about 300-600 Kbps for a download speed. The crazy thing is if I turn on my wifi, but DO NOT CONNECT to a network I get 1600-1800 Kbps. I have tested and retested many times no matter what if I have the wifi turned on I always get a faster speed. I know I am not connected to a network because A. When I do connect to my home wireless I get about 4000 Kbps. B. I have tested this when there are no networks around.
I guess cool if I am really getting those speeds which it looks like I am because even the latency probes are fast, my concern is having the wifi on all the time will eat up my battery even more.
So I would like some feed back on what others are using to do speed tests and also does this happen to anyone else?
I am on joshes fast and stable rom.

Ok... So can I change those settings so I can get that speed without the wifi on?
Thanks
I use www.speakeasy.net/speedtest for that...it only works in IE (not opera, haven't tested it in skyfire), but does a great job.
I personally dont know how, i cam across a post saying how to, ill look it up. Recently ive been busy running android on the hd2
Hello. First, great forum- I can feel the love, as well as the collective genius at work here. It's refreshing to find a forum where people actually know their sh*t on a real, technologically advanced level. It's relieving as well, considering the headache that my new G2 is causing... as follows:
This is a Sprint device and I am still within the time frame to return if a resolution is not found.
Issue:
1.) While wi-fi remains connected (doesn't drop), it is terribly slow, averaging .8 - 3 mbps. Whereas, other Samsung android devices are averaging 15-20 mbps. Internet is cable, and I have reset the modem without experiencing any performance increase. (technicolor TC8305C, bgn)
2.) 4g is no better, averaging a mind boggling .5 mbps. (Don't even get me started on 3g- .1-.3 mbps)
3.) If 4g is even able to connect, which is rare... it disappears and and is nowhere to be found, or be (re) enabled.
Attempted (unsuccessful resolutions):
1.) Performed Sprint recommended troubleshooting techniques:
a.) updated profile
b.) soft reset(s)
c.) hard resets- multiple
2.) contacted customer care: received "refreshers," and was walked through numerous settings and performed various resets.
Recommended CC resolution: return device for exchange.
3.) Sprint store attempted to identify problem, and in the process found that their demo, along with employee handsets (G2) as well as new unboxed versions had the same problem. They offered to switch to an S4 or Nexus5 for free, or wait a couple days to see if the LG rep could offer a fix.
(further) Resolution: pending
Here's the deal- I think we can all agree that this phone is kick ass. Therefore, I would rather not switch, as I enjoy the experience it provides, as well as the satisfaction of getting to really bond with a device when troubleshooting them. Though, this phone seems to be pretty 'buggy,' and while I don't mind tinkering with computing devices (been seeing the blue screen since win '95), I'm not sure I want to be dealing with the potential hassle with a device we all rely on day in and day out to be our life blood... plus, just because I don't see/haven't experienced the other issues others have, doesn't mean they won't potentially manifest down the road. :/ Maybe the Nexus 5 is the better choice... but it seems like cost cutting has taken place in a couple areas- battery (2300), and the camera. Almost like the G2 is the flagship and the other is mildly scaled down in certain aspects even though the end result is compelling for both.
Please know that I am scouring middle earth low and wide for resolutions, and have not composed this post without first looking and becoming familiar with other peoples similiar experiences. I will continue to fact find, and I apologize for not reading all related threads before posting, but time is of the nigh, as I am still within a time frame to return in case the problem is inherent to this specific device (a lemon). Plus, I don't quite understand everything you're talking about, as I've never had/chosen to dig that deep into the obscure settings and techniques I've seen listed (and also because I JUST got it) Hence, the user name- g2 n00b.
So thank you in advance for your time in helping with this. It is both greatly appreciated, and not without gratitude on my part. Also, I hope I displayed proper educate by formating this post in a manner which is easy to sort through. K. let the trouble shooting begin.
also, to the mods- sorry if this is thread/issue has already been covered elsewhere. I also posted this issue on another board and nobody had heard of this problem, so I am fairly confident that i may be justified in having poted this. However, feel free to delete/lock/merge/ if I just didn't see it.. but please provide the link so I can further fact find, because I'm stumped. Thanks.
I just did a speedtest on mine (Also on Sprint) using Wifi.
Same speeds I get on my PC.
It's an oddball suggestion but did you disable the Sprint connection optimizer?
Optimizer enabled. Though, I have tried disabling it and running diagnostics to no effect- doesn't matter what I do, it still won't exceed 3mbps, unless I am lucky enough to receive 4g in certain areas.. then it's a 'blazing' 3.5mbps, but usually .8. I have msl code and have adjusted band priorities and still no difference there, including ##72786 to reset default connections to make sure nothing was adversely affected after investigating the issue.
I'm really bummed. I love this phone. I feel like everything I felt I was missing in the S3/S4 are present here. Love the interface, form factor and all of the settings. Maybe I should take Sprint up on there offer to get an S4 a Nexus 5, but I REALLY don't want to go back to caveman battery hog status on the S4 and have to purchase a backup. I imagine the N5 is more efficient in this area, but it still has a 2300 battery vs 3000 in the G2. Needless to say, I'm frustrated and confused.. but often times, such is life.
Any thoughts on the N5, or suggestions to further trouble shoot are greatly appreciated and welcome?
I have disable the connection optimizer and have done this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=47423537&postcount=1
The only other idea I have is hit up a coffee shop and due a speed test on their wifi.
The sprint stores by me have crappy wifi speed hence the coffee shop.
I seem to have mostly resolved the issue. I switched channels and encryption protocol. Apparently, my g2 didn't appreciate AES very much. Has anyone else seen performance differences with their device when comparing AES to TKIP? If so, are they drastic? I would think AES would be fine with the g2, considering how advanced it is. I consider it to be somewhat unfortunate if I am forced to select TKIP just so I can get a decent connection. That is, unless of course there are settings I can alter in the ##data# screen that can make better use of this encryption. Is there anything I can do now that I have narrowed down the culprit?

What wireless router are you using? I use a D-Link at home and my G2 kept connecting and disconnecting repeatedly. I was able to fix the problem by updating the router's firmware to the latest version. We've never had any problems with other wifi devices on our router, so it seems the G2 has some unique peculiarities WRT wifi.
I'm running AES with no issues, but noticed following.
LG (Sprint) connects first with a slow 72mbps and switches after a while to a faster speed of 433mbps
I have an Asus Router RT-AC66R, if I play around on the router with Frequencies or the wireless mode, LG would go down to a slow speed.
Don't have Optimizer enabled.
I suspect your problem is a router problem and not the phone.
Actually XT926M if it matters
Phone is on ST AT&T. It is also rooted.
At first I thought it was just due to low signal strength (300-400kbps), but then even on my home wifi, nope, no faster DL speed than on data.
Anyone know if there's a setting or something in the phone limiting overall DL speed? I think it might have something to do with manipulating phone to work on ATT bc, although I didnt try it on verizon first, I've never ever had a speed problem with verizon.
Thanks for any help
another question
Also while I'm at it, WIll doing a software update remove root or mess with my radios? It was a pain to get root on 4.1.2. My phone keeps showing a system update but I dont know whether I should.
Hello Guys!
my mature language isnt English so pleeease be patient!
I bought 25 days ago a Galaxy s6 edge+ (G928F) and i sold my Note4.
i went to my carrier shop and build a new nano-sim to fit with this phone.
i used this phone for some days and i realised that i have some lost calls.
and when i am with 4g(LTE) my carrier data connection is tooooo slow...
i made some experiments with my galaxy tabs 8.4" and i realised that
the tablet is very faster than edge+
please check this video here ---> vid31.photobucket.com/albums/c393/nick_p/Mobile%20Uploads/20150930_013114_zpspzrlw6fd.mp4
(please add hhtp:// ) sorry for that xda. i am a new member.
as you can see the 2 devices are with same carrier ,same place , same test server at same time.
i did that experiment with a game into playstore. i tried to download NFS in both devices. the tabs
already downloaded 120MB and the edge+ only 15mb.
i went to official samsung service my edge+ and they told me that the device pass all the tests succesfully.
but the problem was there. i went again into service and they replaced all the main board.
(i dont know if it had any problem...maybe they change it just to satisfied me)
BUT the problem remains.....do you have any idea guys???
Im in the US and am experiancing the same issue but on T-Mobile. They didnt troubleshoot, they just senta replacement out for me
So they replace the entire device for you??? And ?? The problem remains or not??
I am from Greece and my carrier is Vodafone.
I havent gotten my replacement yet, it should be here tomorrow night. As soon as I get it, Ill let you know how it works out
thank you very much! i am waiting your reply!
i tried to replace my nano-sim again. without solution.
i am really confused...because other carrier with my phone works well...
and my carrier-nanosim with a galaxy s6 edge (non plus) works well too...
my nanosim with my device in other place (other antenna) works well too...WTF is going on....
lol, yeah I know what you mean. I came from a Iphone 6 plus and had no network issues at all and Im visiting all the same spots so I know its not the network

Dont Forget to do factory reset after the system updates.... big difference in battery life..
So the problem remains?
After all the updates ill do the reset, Im still downloading everything
Ok, I finished all updates. I havent factory reset yet but I ran a speedtest with speedtest.net and DL-1.93 UP 2.61 mbps, Before on my old device in the exact same location i was getting download speeds of around .10 mbps - .90. So it is an improvement. My WiFi hasnt improved though. Itsa about 1.27mbps on the download
