Contact App Freezing + Battery Drain (after the latest update) - LG G6 Questions and Answers

All these problems happened right after the latest software update. I've been trying to find this problem online but it seems like not many people know this kind of problem. I've managed to find one other friend who has the exact same problem as me, he's using LG V20. So here's the problem :
1. The phone app is having a long freeze over and over again. It took about 10 seconds from pressing the call button on a contact to the phone actually making the call
2. The battery drain is real. Even when there are no apps running and the phone just on standby, the battery life got significantly worse.
- I've tried to run diagnostics and also use Greenify app to see if the culprit is from a third-party app, but there seems to be no problem at all with the other apps.'
- I've tried to use a third party caller app but they still resulted in the same freeze over and over again. I've since uninstalled the app because the problems seems to come from the core app.
Anyone share the same problem? Can you help me find a solution for this? Because the phone is practically useless if the battery life keeps on running out and it's scary knowing that if someone stabbed me and it took me 10 seconds to call the emergency number then I'm screwed.
Many thanks.

I'm experiencing the similar starting this month, and seems like the battery drain comes with heating surrounding the power button, are you seeing the same symptom?

Camera Crashing

Okay, I have a weird problem. Everything I open the camera app, the phone completely shuts off. It used to work just fine a few days back. Even if its another app that's has to use the camera, it would do the same thing. I'm not sure if its some of the apps that I been lately?
P.s. I been using my phone heavily and the battery last a long time. 8 hours just using 40% battery life. Battery life expanding to 18 hours.
mhh strange .. i dont have annything simular ...you could try use barcode scaner and see if that its a sofwtare ( app ) problem or driver problem ... you also can try to reflash the phone with seus ... if that dont work eather there might be a hardware fault that cause the crash ...
good luck ( remember there is somthing calt warranty )
I've got this problem at the moment, using an X10i on R1FA014. The handset froze and shutdown when i opened the camera sometimes, so i got it exchanged only to have the same problem with a new, identical version of the phone. I went into my 3 store to see what they suggested, but apparently they suggest it's something to do with an outdated SIM card.
I've tried altering the screen timeout settings, default camera settings and all sorts. The problem seems to occur most when i wake the phone from sleep and then immediately run the camera, but not every time. Really, really frustrating - does anybody else have this?
Couple of things that you should check..
1. Do you have any Task Killers/ managers running that might be screwing with things?
2. Did you install anything immediately prior to the problems starting? sounds like something's interfering with the camera app causing a fatal error..
I had the same problem about 60% of the time I ran the camera it rebooted. I forced an update/repair with the update service which wipes all your apps and settings. Same thing happend. A few emails back and forth with SE and they said there was a fault. I phoned Orange and less than 24hrs later I had a working replacement. I'm much happier now. Barcode scanner and Google Goggles all work nicely.
I'm having the same problem. When i try to open camera app via icon or camera button, phone will crash and restart or sometimes open and give the message 'camera not available'. I contacted SE support and they reckon that to date nobody has reported the issue. I seriously doubt that! They said to try and reset which doesn't work. Now they are ignoring my emails. This is the last SE phone i buy!
Anyone got a fix? I tried what everyone else mentioned but no luck so far.

Is my phone freezing up...or is it turning itself off (3rd phone...same problem!)

I am on my third SGS from Bell Mobility. I returned the first two because of the same problem. I would be using the phone like normal, and at random times I go to make a call or something, and notice that the phone is turned off! On my last 2, i couldn't turn it back on using the power button and assumed it was turned off, so i would re-install the battery to get it working again (until it would happen again a day or two later).
Well, today it happened for the first time on my third SGS (on the 2nd day after i had it). This time, i decided to hold the power button for about 10 seconds to see what would happen...and the phone restarted (didn't re-install battery like i used to).
What could be causing this? I thought it was a defect in the phone, but this is the third one to do it. It happens randomly (sometimes every 3rd day, sometimes everyday). Anyone know what it could be? Could the phone just be 'frozen' in sleep mode? (meaning the phone is still on, just the screen is frozen black)...or could the phone actually be off? Thanks in advance!
The same happened to me several times, but since i changed the default home screen mananger, it never happened again. So, maybe this is a software issue, i dont know.

default home screen manager? could you please explain that to me (noob!). thanks
Just download from market Launcherpro or Adw launcher and Home switcher to set default layout.
Btw it's strange, because my SGS havent hanged up even once since i have it.

I have the same problem. But it happens at least few times a day. I have to check my phone is on regularly to aviod miss call.
I am using a rooted JF7 ,anyone have idea how to solve it?
SetCPU is known to cause that.
The device shuts down automatically.
Just realized WHEN this happens
Happened again today... I tried calling my phone to see if maybe it was just stuck in sleep, but it went to voice mail. This is very annoying because i cannot rely on my device to be on when it should be (ie- for an alarm) The only way to get it back on was to either re-install battery or hold down power for about 10 seconds. This is my 3rd SGS and it happened on the 1st one and the 3rd (only had 2nd one for a day).
I just realized today that it only happens to me at places where i have no signal. It happened at work 5 times (where i get no reception), and once in the forest where i was bike riding. I was in an area that showed no signal, and shortly after the phone was off. (it doesn't make any shutdown noise or anything, I just realize sometimes the phone has randomly turned itself off.
Could reception have something to do with this? Now that I think about it, the 1st phone i had also turned itself off at work....never at home. Will 2.2 fix this problem? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Three handsets exhibiting the same problem?... I'm starting to think that this might be somehow related to your sim-card...
just leave the phon in stock and it'll work better
once you start adding apps to change the normal stuff, weird things happens

A sim card can cause glitches in how a phone works? That's interesting...how exactly is that possible?
As long as you weren't installing any 3rd party application which can cause this and there's no strong electro magnetic field nearby, which might disrupt your sgs ... I can't think about nothing else...
if you can try a different sim card for a day or two, maybe you'll figure that out...

Issues since updating my Bravo

I would like to start this out by saying that I have had my Bravo since January 16, and have loved every minute of it. This has been my first Android (Came over from my iPhone 3G). I was extremely excited to finally get the upgrade to 2.2, even though I decided to wait to officially download it OTA.
Since I got my phone, I had no more than three to five apps force close on my using the stock launcher. I rarely noticed much of any lag while working with my phone, and I never once had any issues with the phone rebooting itself on me.
Since I updated my phone on Saturday I've been plagued with all of these issues. Immediately after updating, I noticed my phone was running very hot, and my battery drained to 50% within an hour or two without me even running anything stressful on it. I restarted it twice and since then I haven't noticed any significant issues with my battery, or the phone seeming to run it's processor excessively.
But, I have constant lag, making tasks that were extremely quick and easy before the weekend be significantly more difficult and frustrating. Today I've even noticed that the lag is so bad that I am not even able to use Swype because the phone takes so long to register any touch's it doesn't register anything other than the first and last letter I swyped across. In addition, my phone has rebooted itself 3 times within the last three days I've been using it, an issue that has not happened once in the three months before this weekend.
I will regularly be trying to do things on my phone and it will lag, causing the phone to freeze for 20-30 seconds at a time, and then trying to perform every touch it received in those 20-30 seconds in a scant second after it recovers.
I have noticed some issues not regarding lag, but sometimes it has been difficult for my phone to initiate calls. I have tried to call my wife, and it took 5 times before the call would finally go through, it was immediately ending the call right after I pressed the call button.
I love my phone and the capabilities of the Android system. Until now I haven't had any problems at all with it. Can you help me try to figure out what's happening, and if there are any ways to fix my phone? I haven't gotten around to rooting my phone since I've gotten it, but have been planning on it.

Something probably is messed up in the upgrade process.
Simple solution, flash the 2.2 sbf and you should be good.
roadkizzle, Something doesn't sound right at all with your update. I would try to remove the battery for a minute and reboot. If you still have issues I would try a factory data reset. If that doesn't cure your ills then flashing the 2.2sbf as bandroidx suggested may be in order.
Alright, I flashed the SBF file to the phone through RSDLite, and from what I can see it went through correctly. My only question now is do you think I'll need to try to re-install the full update? Or is that similar to what I did?

flashing the sbf already updated your phone to 2.2. You don't need to do anything else
I hope reflashing did the trick for you. That experience sounds nasty...

Well, after a couple of hours of playing with my phone it's seeming better. I have been playing a few games of Worms, and my normal surfing the internet and so far I haven't noticed any real lag. The test will be my day through tomorrow.
I was just really confused because I was following the instructions from the Flashing SPRecovery SBF to a Motorola Droid youtube video, and his SBF file really seemed to only change the recovery screen. It looked like he still had to go through the actual update.zip process to make the actual updates to his phone.
Alright it's official, flashing the sbf did not fix the lag issues. My phone hasn't had a critical malfunction and reboot itself yet today, but the lag is unbearable.
roadkizzle, It sounds like you are still having issues. If you look at the system version in "about phone" in settings menu does it say version 37.4.0.MB520??
Yes, it says Version.37.4.0.MB520.ATT.en.US

what apps do you have installed?
look in task master and get rid of any auto-ends and reboot and see if that makes a difference
Well, immediately after removing the AT&T apps from the auto-end list and rebooting, I thought I noticed some lag initially, but I've let it run for a few days now doing everything I was before and I've not been having any of those issues recently.
I'm not sure what it was. I wasn't very aggressive adding apps to my auto-end list, really just Maps and the AT&T apps. I added maps after a while because when I would use it once it would stay open and I'd notice later on that it would have been a major consumer of my battery, and I couldn't figure out how to close it fully.
Glad to hear things are going better. I had some issues totally unrelated to the apps I had in auto-end but pulling all of them off of auto-end got rid of the issues. Froyo is supposed to minimise the need for having to add apps to auto-end in task manager. Regards

roadkizzle - my situation sounds very similar to yours and I wanted see if you are also seeing a couple of other symptoms I've seen beyond what you have indicated. This has been an issue from early on for me. At first it seemed to be associated to when the battery was low, but it is now ever increasingly interrupting my use of the phone. I was hoping 2.2 might resolve some of this, but it hasn't.
Background: Purchased/activated phone early Jan 2011; recently upgraded to the 2.2 sys and used the official channels; all apps I've added are lightweight stuff (ex: notepad-type stuff, weather widget) and I have pushed most unused stuff to the auto-end list.
Similar symptoms: I see the same power drain and high CPU usage when using maps/navigator (really evident on a recent trip). Still monitoring if some of that can be attributed to use of the GPS.
I'm getting a similar lag though I wish it was only for the short period you are seeing. I've only rarely been able to just put the phone down and have it responsive when I get back to it. Maps/Navigator were especially susceptible to this problem, and it seemed consistent with the 90%+ CPU usage often seen when they are running.
I don't use swipe, but the keypad is most often what is being used when the lag kicks in... the entire phone just goes completely unresponsive, including any and all other input such as the hardware home/back keys, etc.
In addition: Better than half the time that the qwerty touchpad becomes unresponsive, I see sporadically entered random keystrokes to my messages... everything from initiating the voice input to entering several dozen spaces or just simple random characters. This happens at a random, often changing rate and I see the keys lighting up and the haptic responses happen as if I were touching the keys, but they are not from any delay in the input. Once ruling out an exorcism, this has started me thinking I might have a hardware issue with the touchpad. The phone has not been dropped or roughed up in any way, so if it is HDWR, it's a manuf issue.
Luckily.... in 99% of the cases where this happens, using the HDWR power button to cycle the screen through a sleep and back resolves the issue. Not a big deal unless you have to do it 3 times to send one text/mail. This has me constantly thinking about items on the auto-end list but I have not unearthed anything to support that.
The other 1% of the time I have had to reboot the phone, but in those cases I can't rule out 'user issues' due to just pure frustration. Task Manager has become my most freq used app, but often I see everything at 0% CPU and/or not running.
I'm wondering if any of these additional symptoms sound familiar...
thx.

Try taking things off of the auto-end list. You shouldn't need the task killer because android manages apps on its own (it's supposed to manage apps better in froyo than in 2.1)
I've also had lag, especially when opening maps (the first time I open maps it often force closes).
Can anyone get the "lock pattern" screen without the slide to unlock? It seems like a common "Motorola 2.2" issue, but I can't figure out if it gets resolved through an update or not

it can be fixed through the settings.db in the com.android.providers.settings, but i dont remember what to edit inside.
or you can download No Lock from the Market

Random issues on separate days (SM-935FD)

Hi all,
I have a black S7 Edge International version (Dual Sim version). The phone as a whole has been working great. I have been having certain issues though, they don't happen very often. So I'm not sure if its related to certain apps I have or if it's an issue with the phone.
Each issue happened on a separate day.
First problem: The phone froze when I was editing a photo on Adobe Lightroom. This was the first time I was using the app, so I launched after installing it. I tweaked a photo and noticed the phone lagging. They it froze, and I couldn't do anything on the screen. Nothing worked until I did a hard reset. Afterwards, the problem didn't occur again, although I haven't tried Lightroom since, so maybe I should, to see if the problem is with the app. Does this happen often with lightroom? Or could this be a phone issue?
Second Problem: On another day I had my phone randomly start vibrating, like it was receiving a call. I had just made three calls to my wife, and thought she was calling back. However, there was no call notification, and nothing on the drop down menu. There was also no ringtone. The phone kept vibrating, and wouldn't stop. I pressed the power button and reset, then the problem stopped.
Final problem: Today, I've been using the phone fine. However I was playing angry birds and then pressed the home button, so the game was still on it's memory, and being multitasked. I used the phone again a few times, then I noticed on the bottom that the game launcher circle (was on the bottom of my homescreen), even though the game was not open (still in the multitask window - I assumed) I tried to click the multitask window, and the button lit up, but nothing happened. The multitask window had frozen. Again it required a restart, and now it's working.
Given that I'm having these three issues (none have repeated themselves though), is this just the phone needing an OTA update, early phone bugs, specific 3rd party app issues, or is it a more serious problem?
Should I take the phone to Samsung and ask for a replacement, or should I wait it out?
Would love some advice from people, and would also like to hear if you've had similar problems.
Current firmware I'm on: G935FXXU1APB6
Thanks!
Does anyone have any feedback on this? Thanks!
I have the first problem on my phone.
But I didn't use adobe lightroom
and I've seen many user reported this problem in many different threads. it seen a known issue.
Thanks for that stone... Hopefully it's a bug... Would love to hear if anyone thinks that it requires a replacement... Also, i just found a dead pixel on the top corner of my phone... it's completely black...
Is that grounds for replacing the phone, or is samsung wishy washy about the whole thing?
I have the second problem; sudden vibrations with no reason, no app pending or anything else; I start to think it is associated with the Smart Alarm being activated (in Advanced settings).....
Anyway, really a bug, in fact the Smart Alarm and Smart Stay are known for having made other problems previously, but seems they didn't correct all the bugs.....

If there's a dead pixel I would return it.... There has been alot of people talking about freezing and rebooting... I've experienced too.... Most likely a software issue.... When I got the S6 last year my phone would reboot 3-5 times a day until a software update came out.... The continuous vibration I haven't heard anyone talk about... But if your still in you grace period I would get another phone for the pixels alone... Too nice and new to have to deal with that
Galaxy S7 edge
Hey, I have the same phone with the same firmware. I experienced the freezing right after I opened the camera from the lock-screen, it lasted for a few minutes and then went away. I'm waiting till Sunday to get the OTA and if I don't, I'm just going to update using Odin, considering how the firmware for the SM-G935FD and SM-G935F is the same.
Sounds good, thanks for the advice guys... I went to Samsung, and they said they would replace the phone for the dead pixel... Will take a week to arrive, but I'm just glad it's getting replaced...
I would return it immediately while it is within your return period.

Use of Camera App overhearts and shuts down the phone

Hi,
I sent an Essential Phone to my mom oversea, and her phone has been having this issue where when she uses the the camera app, phone heats up, freezes, and eventually shuts down. It has the latest version installed (OPM1.180104.166). Has anyone else experienced this issue? If you know a fix, please share.
Thank you

It's weird. I just came from my vacation, which i used the essential to take photos and gps. And never afront any of this issues.. never heat up or freeze.
I'm on the same May update and used my camera extensively the last two days w/o any issues or overheats.
What's the signal like where she's using the phone? I'm wondering if the issue might be compounded by a weak signal area, especially if you're using an app that continuously backs up your photos to the cloud.
She should factory reset the phone and choose the fresh start option when setting up the phone again to verify that there isn't a software problem.
There are hardware problems with some Essential Phones that causes them to overheat and become unstable which leads to the phone freezing, rebooting or shutting down. The issue seems to be rare but it has been reported by some owners.
If the factory reset doesn't fix the issue it's almost certainly a hardware issue.
