Guys
I am facing a really weird problem which is becoming increasingly frustrating and driving me nuts.
I usually charge my phone overnite using the stock charger. The phone powers off after a while as per the the settings (15 mins I think) and stays like that throughout the night. But in the morning it fails to wake up totally. Nothin works. So, I am forced to soft reset it everytime this happens. This has happened quite a few times now.
Any ideas why this might be happening? This is killing me because the alarms dont sound and the phone is totally dead in the morning.
ps. I am using the stock HTC ROM (1.18, 07/22), on Cingular UMTS.
Thanks in advance.
JoKer
Dude, I'm getting the EXACT same thing!!!! I'm using using the stock TyTN ROM! I have no idea what's causing it, or even how to fix it. I thought it had something to do with software, but that doesn't seem to be the case here. I need help too!!!!
) .. that's crazy .. maybe this is the next SA ... jk ..
but seriously ... maybe there are more folks with this prob ... let's see if anyone knows any more details about this or how to fix it ..
And the really strangest thing is that this doesnt happen to me in the day .. it powers off and wakes up fine .. but then it's never powered off for that long ..
Mine seems to happen when it's powered off for a given amount of time. It's insanely annoying because I have to reboot, and I hate rebooting the phone.
I've experienced a lot less of this behavior since moving to the 1.20 radio ROM...
I'm at the 1.20 radio, and I'm still having the problem.
I too am having exactly this problem. I have flashed the Cingular 1.34 ROM but it seems that the ROM doesn't matter. (I notice the bluetooth and or wifi lights are still on, the screen just doesnt come back to life).
Hi, you probably already tested this, but your device goes into standby mode with WiFi on it will become locked and unable to power on.
But it has happenned to me this sympton without WiFi connected.
Cheers
check out this search...there are a few topics on this already

Well I used to think there was some truth to the freezing being related to certain apps... and I suspected on mine it was PhoneAlarm causing problems.
Last week I hard reset and re-installed everything except PhoneAlarm but am having freezing if my TyTN is not used for some time (does not have to charge to freeze!)... And yes, I do kill ActiveSync and WiFi when I know I will not be using my phone for a while. My conclusion is that there's more to this and that maybe a newer ROM from HTC will address this - anyone know what the status is on this??
BTW, anybody else having alarms going off constantly on re-boot or MS VC reading out ca. 2 weeks of appointments on soft re-boot?
I still don't think there is a definitive answer on this. I've heard quite a few things to fix it; but I don't really have any of the software that's mentioned. Someone said it was because I had Opera installed (so I uninstalled it), then someone said it was because of the ActiveSync Advanced Network Connection option (I unchecked that), last someone said it was because of SBSH PocketWeather, and to take that off the today screen. Well I'd rather not do the latter, so I'll test these two and see how it goes.
I think it's the today plug-in issue. I hard reset and left off PW and it didn't lock-up for 2 days. But like you, I like it a lot.
So I'll deal with resetting it.
For me, it's just Pocket Plus, Resco File Explorer and WA Lite on the Today screen along with the standard stuff .. really nothin that needs to connect to the connect to the internet .. and still ..
The one that caused the TyTn not to wakeup was Wisbar Advance. Since removing it, I've not had any issues with the pda not waking up from power off.
Ok, what are you using in its place?
Well after uninstalling Opera, and unchecking the check box; I had the problem again! ( So annoying (.
Well i'll post my problem too
I have missed class twice in a week because the phone alarm never rang in the morning. The phone was frozen and i had to reset it in both cases. I always leave it charginf over night and now i'm afraid to turn it off anymore for fear of never waking me up in the morning
Adi
guys,
I am suspecting the issue is related to the today's plugin. After a few days of experiments, I believe the battery level reading utilities such as SPB pockets plus or Resco today plugin might be the one we are looking for.
Not only uncheck it, but also un-install it, hopefully, would help to solve the problem.
Mark
I have no today's plugin, just the standard stuff, en i do have the same problem
Give the Fake Server Trick a try, which worked for similar symptoms on the old Axim x51v: http://www.aximsite.com/boards/showthread.php?t=112638
If your problems are caused by the same thing, then this is to do with Activesync launching itself automatically. This in turn causes windows mobile 5 to stop waking up from standby, requiring a soft reset. No idea why.
I did the FST straight away when I received my TyTN and I don't get any of the problems you describe at all. It's worth a go!
Since I have got it (2 weeks ago) i have picked up my phone make a call, and on about 7-8 occasions, have noticed that the phone is turned off, and I can't get it to turn on. The only solution is to take out the battery and put it back in. Has anyone else experienced this. I have updated to JH2 firmware, but it still happens. I even got a new battery for the phone (Bell employee let me swap with another phone that was going back to samsung for gps issues), but the problem still happens once in awhile (like every 2 days, sometimes more sometimes less). Anyone have any ideas? thanks
More likely that it just "freezes" and you can't get it to react, then the solution is to take out and back in the battery - Sounds like a defective unit to me.
i think your phone was unable to wake? i have that problem previously where i can still call through my phone (using another phone) but there's no vibration / notifications of sorts.
i then realized i've been playing with SetCPU of late, long story short, i uninstalled the application, rebooted and all is fine since then.
good luck!
if it still persists, i'd do a reflash, wipe every bit of data available + formatting my SD cards. lol.

So..are you saying that the phone is actually still 'on'...just the screen is not turning on?
yeee sort of. lol. but why it's unable to answer, yet able to receive calls. i have no idea. same goes for any kind of notification that wakes your screen (SMS, calls, alarm, etc.)
Next time it happens, i'll try calling the phone to see what happens...I dont wanna return it because I have a 'rare' phone that seems to have good gps and can enter recovery mode.
you should check bell to see if there working and have recovery mode i got my just recently the newer shipments are hopefully all working with recovery mode and good gps
Did you install any Lockscreen app or something similar? I´ve read about another guy who had similar problems with a not waking up device. And it was a lockscreen app that caused this.
Yeah, I agree with everyone. I had SetCPU on my device and it would shut off a bunch of times per day. After I unintalled it everything worked fine. Another trick you can try is when the phone "freezes" try to hold down the home key. You sould still get the task manager box.
My first SGS did this a lot. My second and third SGS have not done this. Conclusion: faulty.
Yep...
I'm with mine for more than three weeks now, and I've never managed to cause it to freeze/shut down. although yours considerable rare, You'd rather have a working device I presume...

No, i haven't installed any apps like that. Like i said, GPS works 'ok' on this phone and it enters recovery mode. Thats why I would hope its a software thing and can be fixed. I will go back to get an exchange today ONLY if they let me try it out 1st (recovery mode).
I've had this happen twice, both times I was charging the phone with the screen locked and the cable was accidentally violently jerked out, after that my phone wouldn't turn back on without a battery pull. It has not happened of it's own accord though.
Every once in awhile, I will look over and notice the Roger logo popped back up on my phone which means its restarting. No idea how much this does in a day but I have caught it a couple times in the past few days. Anyone have this problem? An excuse to get a phone replaced?
yup..happens to me on average around 3 times a week.
i launch an app..the screen goes blank..suddenly i notice the phone has restarted.
maybe low on RAM or too high temperature
Me phone has only done this once to me after I cleaned too many built in apps from my phone.
Other than that my phone has never rebooted.
Swyped from my rooted X10i using XDA.
My phone had restarting problem when i used aHome home launcher. After unistalling it, never happened again
Weird. My phone has never done it while i am using it. Its always done it when sitting by itself on a table, not running anything.
If you guys read the SE support site, you'll know that it has to do with the phone running out of memory because of too many apps running at the same time.
I know that there is a group here who does not believe in Advance Task Killer app, but I haven't had this issue after starting using this app. And, I'll repeat again, it helps me conserve the battery, not matter whoever who keeps saying that it is useless for that purpose.

It reboots even if you have a lot of memory free. This morning it rebooted after 30 min from the first boot and I didn't use it.
Ciao Angelo
noticed this happening quite a bit over last 2-3 days, not sure if its been caused by program update, possibly adw home.
today has been the worst, disconnecting and reconnecting almost every minute or so.
gonna try switching 3g off see if that helps. really annoying, makes browsing a PITA.

Mine restarted itself about 20 minutes ago haha.
Is this a problem for rooted phones mostly?

Ciao Angelo
I personally found that it happen when I connected to Wifi.
That's for myself.
X10 Restarting
you showld try to turn off the WCDMA mode, after turning only GSM mode it never restarted again, and if i turn it on goes back to restarting every once in a wille, especialy when connected to my car's bluetooth.
try it and give feed back.
Started happening to me after I stopped using advanced task killer... maybe it happens when it runs out of ram?
Don't your phones get extremely laggy without ATK? I usually don't exit apps when I'm done with them, I just press the home button, and open up more apps, so I can't go without it...
As far as I can recall, my phone's never restarted on me...
In the last couple of days it is happening to me too.
I stop using the phone for some time, and then it just restarts itself.
i just bought an x10 yerstday and ever since the recent update it has continuously rebooted on its own when browsing the net and playing music.
This really bugged me since i didnt know whether it was a faulty set or the new update was the problem. after going through various threads on various forums i realised the problem is very common.(unrooted before and fully factory unlocked)
So here is my Solution. it has not restarted yet after doing the following
1. Rooting and updating to latest firmware R2BA026
2. Installing Auto memory manager
> Setting it as follows
FA... 2MB
VA... 2MB
SS... 4MB
HA... 5MB
CP... 6MB
EA... 6MB
3. Installing Advanced Task Killer (Using it as normally as u could do)
> Untick Superuser permission
> Untick Auto Memory Manager
Dont let the memory fall below 15mb always check Auto Memory Manager and then use ATK.
Please tell me if this worked for you. it worked for me

Tried this, also tried resetting using seus and still it continues, think my phone has a fault now, I'm now running latest o2 uk fw (26).
If I'm on 3g it will cycle being connected and disconnected almost constantly, makes using net impossible, if I set it to use gsm only everything is fine. Could be o2 screwing with 3g where I live but I don't think so some how, not for this length of time!
Any one have any ideas? Failing that its gonna have to be sent away :-(

Ok so I wasnt a believer in all this r/s crap, but I alsmost shat my pants last night when my phone r/s on me during a call. Now at that time its wasnt on wifi but it r/s on me...i dialed again and after a few mins it r/s again. This is pissing me off. Any solutions.???
I guess if it continues then imma jump ona new phone.
I've had a SII for a couple of weeks now (new user to android) and I have flashed it to Lightning Rom 1.5. But even before doing this and also afterwards the phone seems to crash/lockup at 5am on about 5-6 occasions.
Is there any program/app I can install to monitor what is kicking in at this time so that I can disable/uninstall it?
Thanks
What do you mean by crash exactly ? Reboot ? Freeze ?
What you could do is plug your phone to your computer before it crashes, and start adb logcat, wait for the crash, and then look at the log to see what caused the crash.
It is completely frozen. I get up at 6:15am and the phone has a blank screen, but I can press a button to activate the screen and the clock is stopped at 5:01am and you cannot do anything else except turn the phone off and back on.
Maybe its the rom? Have you checked its thread? Try flashing bacm to stock. See if problem occurs.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA Premium App
I checked the thread but doesn't appear to be anyone else with same issue. I might try the stock ROM to see if the problem persists. Although I sure it happened once on the firmware that came on the phone (KE2 I think it was).
scheduled backup?
I couldn't find any backups scheduled. So I wiped the phone last night and applied the Lightning 1.5 ROM again and it seems to have been fine this morning..no lockups.
Thanks for the advice.
I had a similar problem with my Nexus S. It went into a bootloop at around 5am... I'm not sure, but I used to think it might be that network operators refresh their networks at that time, and a buggy radio would crash.. This is not normal, if it does the same thing with stock return your phone for repair, especially if you use your phone as your alarm!

I'll keep that in mind if it happens again..cheers. Been OK this morning so shall see how it goes.
Its done it a few more times since I did a factory reset, always at 5:01am. After rebooting the phone and checking the battery stats it appears that 'Cell Standby' has used 52% of all battery consumption and the battery drained from 100% to 9% over 8 hours. The problem also occurs even if the phone is on charge over night.
So maybe it is a buggy radio? Gonna take it back to the store tomorrow to be looked at.
My Note4 was updated to Lollipop about 2 weeks ago and it was running ok until 3 days ago where it keeps on restarting, freezing up, not responsive etc.
The last application that I installed was "FACEBOOK GROUP" but I'm sure this isn't the problem because of the factory reset as explained below.
I have done a factory reset, but I reinstalled all the applications (except Facebook Group), but the problem still persists. It even restarting without it's being touched. Per day, it could restart up to 15 times.
Most of the problem appears when the phone goes into an idle state and won't turn on unless I do a battery pull (like Blackberry).
But sometimes it would respond from the idle state after a 20-30 seconds.
I did find an article that the motion and gestures are causing the unresponsive issue, in which I have followed and disabled all the motion and gestures, this doesn't help. Problem persists.
I have talked to the Samsung Tech support and they told me that I would have to bring it to the service center in Singapore (I live in Jakarta) and they would need to diagnose it. I did mentioned that I want a new phone but they said that they don't have exchange policy. This is really bad because Iphone has an exchange policy, why doesn't Samsung have one too??
Anyone in Singapore maybe have the same issue? or have a knowledge about the exchange policy?
Have you tried uninstalling Facebook Group from your Note 4? It seems to me that the Facebook Group App must be causing some sort of problem with your Note 4.

UPDATE 1 :
I uninstalled DU Speed Booster, and the problem seems to be better, but still hangs after unplugging from charger.
Does anyone use DU Speed Booster with Lollipop?

OK, seems like DU Speed Booster may have messed with the system settings of your phone somehow. Are you using the stock firmware that came with your Note 4?

Yes sir, it is the stock rom.. and it's not rooted. Still original except that it has been updated to Lollipop.
Uninstalling DU Speed Booster seems to make it a little better, but occasionally it still freezes and restart but it's not as many times as before.
If the system setting has been messed up, then I will do another hard reset tonight and see if that would fix the issue. I'm tired of waiting for the phone to come alive after idle or when it restarts by itself.
UPDATE 2 :
I did a factory reset last night and left it to sleep while it was updating stock applications (I have not installed any of my application).
This morning when I woke up. I couldn't turn on the phone. It was frozen and it has a solid red LED light on the top left. This happens quite frequently before too. So I'm not sure what the issue is. Btw, my note 4 is the first batch. Bought it when it first came out.
I had to take the battery out and started the update again.
Then it got restarted when I tried to swipe my finger to enter the homepage.
Why doesn't Samsung give an exchange policy? their rival Apple does..
Yeah, I think you need to return your device to Samsung for repairs. As for why Samsung doesn't have a exchange policy, because retailer's tend to have a exchange policy where if they can't fix your device they will replace it with another one. Since retailer's give you a 1 year standard retailer's warranty with the purchase of any electronic device. Apple has a exchange policy, because as well as being a device manufacturer they are also a retailer for their own devices.
My Note 4 has been a lot better since I reseated the SD Card. I did that before too.
I'm starting to think that my SD Card was not reseated properly causing the system to hang / freeze.
As of now, I think the culprit is the SD Card.. I will monitor and update again.
I think I posted too quicky.
The problem still persists, so it is not the 'reseating' of the SD Card.
I notice though, the problem with hanging, restarting, MOSTLY occurs when the battery is less than 40%. And sometimes, it won't even start / turn on even after I take out the battery. But when it is succeeded, sometimes, it would come out with the message (shown in the attachment). Every time this comes out, I have to take out the battery and wait 30+ seconds before trying again.
I really don't know what is the problem with the phone and this phone is bought overseas. Local Samsung Store can't fix it because they don't have the base band or software.
Please note that this phone has never been dropped / root. I have taken care of it carefully.
I'm really disappointed.
It does seem like a hardware error either with the internal memory chip or the battery. You could try replacing the battery to see if that would fix the problem, I doubt that would work. But I would prefer to just send it back to Samsung for repairs as they have the equipment to fix the problem.
Alternatively you could install Kies 3 from the Samsung website onto your computer and use that to do a firmware reinstall of your Note 4 and see if that helps. If that doesn't work then you really don't have much of a choice other than sending back to Samsung for repairs.
Similar Problem
My Note 4 has locked up three times after a full charge.. I noticed a solid RED LED after the phone fully charged and attempts to turn it on are unsuccessful, it's frozen. Nothing I do can wake it up short of removing and replacing the battery. The Lollypop update was done over a month ago so I doubt that is the cause. I'm still checking things out but it has occurred to me that if this happens to the S6, what would one do if you can't remove the battery?????
