I bought a brand new non-contract S8
I have had issues over the last day with the bottom half of the screen not responding to swipes/'key' presses.
Read in forums to try the code *#2663# and then click TSP FW update (General), except whilst i was on that screen i accidentally clicked Refresh WiFi Version.
The Refresh WiFi Version caused a restart which was fine as i have not experienced any issues at all due to that action, except that now every time I boot the device, it is showing the unlocked padlock animation on startup.
Is that indicating the bootloader has become unlocked?? Or is it something else? How do i re-lock it?
If I have to return this phone as fault, i want it to be in as similar condition as i received it in as possible.
Thanks all.
You are seeing the secure boot animation. It just means that the data on your phone is encrypted at rest. No need to change anything. This is actually a good thing.

Hello,
on my new Mega device, it seems there is a problem: every now and then (I couldn't establish a pattern, as I have the phone only since yesterday), the lock screen that comes up when phone wakes up cannot be unlocked. More precisely, the locker that should be wiped away is not moving until the edge of the screen to disappear, but only just a few millimeters and the screen cannot be unlocked. The only solution is to take off the battery.
Is something that I'm missing?
Thank you.
HTC has released a hot fix for this issue:
here
Hi,
I have owned my HTC HD2 for about 3 months now. I have had a problem since i first got it which is really bugging me. Sometimes when the phone locks, i am unable to unlock it with the slider. The slider gets to about half way across the screen and then freezes. If i leave it for a few minutes it goes back to a locked position agian and when i attempt to slide the slider across, it freezes.
The only thing which gives me access to my phone again is to perform a hard reset by removing the battery.
Any ideas? The phone is on UK Vodafone and is running the latest firmware (v.1.72)

I don't have an answer, its likely to be sense trying to load something and hanging.there are loads of threads about unlock problems, all different, however I wanted to help you avoid confusion by pointing out that removing the battery is a soft reset, not a hard reset.
I'd start by removing some apps, see if it changes the behavior, then re add til it happens
i've the same issue. but not removing battery, just press little red restard button uder battery cover. i think it happens when i enable rotation of today screen or because of proximatelyscreenoff program bug. after removing today from rotation of bsd tweek i have 1-2 restarts for 2 weeks.
I had the same thing sometimes, but never happened with the latest rom I am using, and I am pretty much installing the same apps over and over after each flash...
You aren't by chance running the facebook application?
Leaving that open and locking your phone will result in you not being able to unlock your phone
I wonder if this problem has anything to do with power supply; I sometimes can't unlock the screen either and a few moments ago my battery had run out and when putting it on AC I wasn't able to unlock it. When it had charged a bit there were no problems unlocking it.

HD2 screen unlock probblem
Hi All,
I have put my screen unlock code as 0000 and set as 5 mins to lock the phone.
But that is becoming a headache now.
Sometime the phone behaves very unusual, it doesn't takes my code "0000", no option rather to reset the phone or remove battery and restart.
After the reset the phone works with my code (0000) but don't know when the same problem starts again.
Need Help..
Anyone solved this problem?
In the Att Tilt2 the power button was on Top & could close the Screen while talking on the phone
How do we do that in the HD2 cos its Off button is on the Red Call Shut button
Anyone
Unlock Problem

hanny
HD2 Hard Locked
Okay...so maybe Facebook is locking my HD2. It's LOCKED I'm recharging, I've attemted a soft restart, hard restart and every other restart out there...nothing is working. I even tried pushing the white button below the battery case and holding the volume up and down...I actually thought that it began to do a hard restart. It did begin but then it got stuck at the "swipe" demo. It is definitely stuck.
HELP!!!!

How about these security apples?
I use a pattern to secure my Motorola Xoom (Verizon 3G/WiFi). On three occasions now, the device has become un-responsive even to the point that I was unable to reboot the device or power it down. On each occasion, when the device finally becomes responsive I am presented with a password screen to unlock the device and NOT the pattern. Seeing as I have never set an actual password for the device (only the pattern) I could only determine that perhaps the device wanted my Google/Gmail password to unlock.... but no luck. After many, many (40+) failed attempts, the device does a factory restore. Furthermore the device would not fully power down, it was only able to reboot via the vol and pwr keys.
This happened twice and on the third occasion I brought it to Verizon. The rep was at a loss and didn't know what the issue might be. His first thought was to use my Google/Gmail password to unlock it. I indulged his theory just to show him it would not work. He then said he would need to restore the device, to which I asked him how this could be done when the device would not fully power down? He sort of dis-regarded my question and proceeded to read his screen for what I assume to be the instructions for performing a manual reset. Once he realized I was on to something, he stated that there was nothing they could do in-store and that the device would need to be shipped back for repair... So I went home to await FedEx and my return package....
This is where the possible security hole comes into play... Before FedEx could arrive, the battery drained down and the low battery warning pop-up was displayed (yes, the device was still locked with the mystery password). I was able to click the settings button on the pop-up and VIOLA! I was back into using the device, thus bypassing the password which had it locked... I then proceeded to confirm full functionality of the device and used it for about a week with no further issues. I still sent the device back for repair, but wondered if anyone else has seen this occur and/or has any further information on this possible security hole.

The article seems to say that Android 3.X devices shouldn't be affected. Where did you get that information?
Question 1. This just happened right now my s5 is starting up and sometimes it shows the s5 startup powered by android sometimes not after that it proceeds in starting up with the usual sound effects but the problem is the screen is just plain black. Now i believe my phone is proceeding to the homescreen cause i tried to ring it and it did plus my ringtone music played. I tried pulling the battery multiple times and start the phone but still same result. I also tried the taking the battery off and pressing the power button for a minute. also tried the safe mode, but none of them worked. What do you think? is it a firmware or a hardware issue?
Question 2. Im still not sure the cause of the problem. Because of the black screen issue i I wanted to backup my files saved in the phones memory. However my phone is locked through my fingerprint and I guess because of that when I connect my phone to the pc im unable to access my files. Is there anyway I can access my files through a pc and unlock it using my phone's fingerprint alternative password?
TIA
If the initial logo sometimes won't show up, it sounds more like hardware as that is not part of the ROM
If your phone is secured by fingerprint, wait for it to boot, press the home or power key to wake it up, then swipe like normal, if it's just a faulty screen, the fingerprint swipe should still work

hey thanks alot swiping the through the black screen unlocked my phone. so do you think it is a hardware issue I assume its the LCD?
but if ever the LCD is broken , the finger scanner should also not be functional? or im wrong?
The finger scanner is a separate button (Home button)
There are two parts to the screen iirc, the digitizer (Touch) and the panel itself for displaying, could be just the panel if the digitizer is still working
You can use this to control your phone without a screen, might help

i'm experiencing the same problem again. Before I guess after 40-50 restart I was able to open my s5 with a screen, but now it happened again and the difference is that when I boot it the "Samsung s5 powered by android" rarely shows and it will proceed until the home screen with a black screen?
i have already removed the battery, charged it, changed battery, boot it in recovery and safe mode but still all i'm getting is a black screen.
Any idea how to fix this? Is this a hardware issue already

Hi kenchii17
As you didn't provide answer to @*Detection* 's suggestion for backup, here comes another:
[TOOL] Tickle My Android
To get rid of all this inconvenience, I would suggest a complete reinstall. Clear everything through Recovery and then flash a new Stock ROM via ODIN.
Nice regards.

Hello! I bought brand new OnePlus 6T from online shop. I received it and it doesn't work. After I longpress home button screen shows message "The boot loader is unlocked and software integrity cannot be guaranteed. Any data stored on the device may be available to attackers. Do not store any sensitive data on the device" and phone freezes - I can only turn it off by pressing home button very long. I never modified this phone - I simply took it out of the box and tried to run it... What does this message mean and what to do to make my phone work? Does this message mean I was scammed by the seller?

The message just means that the Bootloader was unlocked. Does it ever go past that screen into the boot cycle?
If you can't boot into the OS, you can try using MSM to restore your phone. It's not a difficult process:

This is how it looks like:
1. received the packege on opened it
2. I turned on my phone and this message appeared
3. Phone stays frozen (with this message on screen) till I press home button for a loooong time - then it turns off
So I simply couldn't even turn the phone on couse there is no way to do it.
Does it mean I didn't receive brand new phone but modified and bricked one? Or does that happen with op6t out of the box?

No, out of the box has a locked bootloader so it doesn't happen by default. This one was unlocked and modified at some point, possibly had a bad flash. Should still be salvageable if you want to keep it.
