Anyone knows what is the deal with the options in the "lock screen and security" settings in nougat?
My S7 edge has the options for secure folder and secure startup.
I see other phones have the option to "encrypt device".
Please see the attached images.
Why is this happening and how can I get the option to "encrypt" my device?
Thanx.

Your device is already encrypted, hence no option. Encrypt option only appears on rooted devices which have encryption removed.

Thank you my friend. That makes sense.

I want to change my lock screen type to pattern but I cant click it! It says: "Disabled by administrator, encryption policy, or credential storage."
Help!
Looks like there's an app that has upped the security level. Check under Settings --> General --> Security --> Device Administrators. It should only list KNOX and Android Device Manager (if you enabled that).
In your another thread u said u encrypt your phone right? If you read encryption rule u will not ask such a question over here, once u encrypt u have only one option to lock your phone.

My VPN I've used required a phone lock screen. Try enabling a swipe code or pin and doing the VPN.

Hello all!
I seek a solution to the following problem:
I'm trying to install TWRP on my Xiaomi Mi Note LTE. I enabled "Developer Options", then "USB debugging", plugged my phone into the computer, Windows 7 recognizes the phone, but ADB will not connect. Running:
C:\Users\seanrz>ADB devicesreturns:
List of devices attached
C:\Users\seanrz>
After researching this problem, it appears as though the culprit is my "Verify apps over USB" option is enabled. I need to disable it but it is greyed out. There are posts on this forum that offer the solution of enabling "Verify Apps" in Security settings (It's actually under Privacy settings on my phone), then disabling "Verify apps over USB". However, "Verify Apps" is greyed out too!! I can't figure out how to un-grey it. I've searched this forum and google at large.
Is there a solution I haven't found, or is there a forum where I may get advice on resolving my issue.
Thank you!

INCREDIBLE!!!! :victory: That ungreyed the option!!! Thank you so much!!
Unfortunately, adb still doesn't see my device, but at least I can eliminate my prior problem as the culprit!
Thanks again!

Hi there,
is it possible to encrypt the tablet using the stock rom? Can't find the option in the settings, only to encrypt the sd card.
It's encrypted by default:
Settings >> Biometrics & Security >> Other Security Settings >> Strong Protection

Maybe they meant FDE rather than just the FBE that most new devices use?

No, the encryption of Galaxy Tab S5e is definitely File-based one (FBE) because no Secure Startup menu is available...
or just type getprop ro.crypto.type in Termux and you can see the answer (file)

Yeah, most new devices are FBE. My thought was the OP was asking for a way to enable FDE. However you could be right FBE confuses some users as they don't realize the device is still encrypted as it doesn't ask for a password on boot.
I've got FDE on my S9, didn't know FBE existed. Thanks for clarifying things for me!
