So the screen of my Priv is broken. I only have visable screen in fastboot mode. The local tech guy tried replacing the cable from the motherboard to the screen but that wasn't the issue. He noted that the GPU got really hot, so he expect it to be a defect in the GPU. So to fix it a new motherboard is needed...
Well not going to happen, as its to expensive
Do you guy have some final resort measurements i can take?
Also I was now wondering is the Priv can still have some use? Lucky i can access the phone with Vysor for back ups. Do you guys maybe still have suggestions/ideas?
The touchscreen still detect when its ehhh touched, its just that I dont have screen (only a flash of the screen before it goes dark)
Cheers
(I'm not ready to let go yet...)

I purchased mine from someone who brought several new machines from England. I don't have a warrenty because i didn't purchase it directly and besides i already flashed my rom ages ago with JJ rom instead the O2 one as well already disassemled my machine.
My Exec has the same desease I read many have: Rotating the screen to mini laptop mode being white screen while PDA portait mode is fine.
I disassmbled my machine but apparently there is nothing I can do because the ribbon connecting the LCD to the main unit is ducked up and needs to be replaced.. Probably very cheap and easy to fix if you have that ribbon of course.
I am really pissed off because I don't have that machine in my country and I don't ducking know what to do. Withot the keyvoard my machine is useless. My girlfriend is going to Germany, Munich, Byrn next month and I was thinking maybe there is some kind of hope to get it fixed there on the spot (she's going for only a week).
Or maybe a private lab or something that I can send the machine to, to have it fixed. Right now I'm in Turkey.
Thanks
: please don't swear so much. Keep it respectful!
join the club buddy..i have the same problem..mine happened weird so i thin its a virus
You might be better off using Pocket PC Techs: http://www.pocketpctechs.com/main.asp?unit=HTC_Universal-439&area=repairs
Well guess what, everybody who has the white screen in minilaptop mode, its not a hardware problem. I took mine for repairs and the screen caBLE is fine. The tech opened the device and checked everything. He colcluded it has to be a software issue. I therefore need o2's original rom and do a complete rom flah..maybe low level???

I have to disagree here.. It is ** NOT ** a software issue and that is 100% guarantee I give you. Here's why:
I disassembled my machine.
When the LCD side is disassembled and still connected to battery power I flipped the screen while it is COMPLETE OUT OF THE AXIS this means that the hardware switch that makes the software flip the screen is not connected. I.E. in a normal operation if you flip the screen that way, it would still be considered portrait mode. as there is no detection to know the status of the screen mode (if minilaptop or pda portrait)
The screen turned white.
It is confirmed to be a hardware problem. I also read another message from someone here who had the same problem and got it fixed, apparently just what I thought: The LCD ribbon got a damaged. IT appears flipping the screen many times just 'smashes' the ribbon and teared one or more of the little miniature cables. creating a slightely bad connection whenin minilaptop mode but a good connection while still in portrait mode.
Now MAYBE there is another white screen problem that I'm not aware of. But the one I have and the one the other guy here had are guarateed hardware issue (bad lcd cable ribbon)
yeah, you probable right. Im going to have to sell mine for nothing
Do I blame the onboard video or the LCD itself for this problem? I've taken the phone apart and re-seated the motherboard connections, which was no help. If I connect using EveryWAN the phone appears to be working fine, in fact I flashed the T-Mobile ROM and than the Button ROM thinking it was a IPL/SPL issue. Even if I try to start in boot loader mode the screen still looks the same.
Just trying to decide If I need to replace the motherboard or the LCD.
Thanks,
Bump back to the top!
Screen seems intact without any damage visible, no cracks or out?
Had this problem once with my old Universal, was the colour transfer wires that were loose, but pretty sure the Uni is totally different to our wizards.
Prehaps open her up and see if theres anything thats loose prehaps.
I had it opened and re-seated both the connecting cables, but no luck.
Ive had this problem with my wizard .. i couldnt find a solution. tho i didnt really try very hard. Basicaly just picked up another one on ebay for like £30 seemed cheaper than spending the time and effort fixing it. I think mine got progressivly worse. It used to do it occasionaly and now just it as soon as its switched on
i have a same sort of problem...
left of the screen fills with lines and the whole screen fades to white.
turning on and of the screen via power button takes it back to normal but then it happens again.
noticed it only happen in portrait so i have to set it to landscape all the time
for some rom and spl's it happens just a few times a day and others i cant use it in portrait.
If i find a solution it might be working for you to
Fading white screen of death
Could be the battery. Have you tried a new battery?
Solved.
The LCD itself was bad.
Hey guys! I have searched the forums and haven't found a problem quite like this yet. Recently, I got some water on my phone, but was able to wipe it off, and it worked fine, and the water damage indicators on the phone are still white. During that day though, after rebooting the phone, the screen appeared to not turn on, so i thought it WAS water related damage, of course.
I put the phone in rice for a few days, and NOTHING, till one day i looked at the phones screen under intense light.
The phone vibrates after you power it on, but then that's all you get, but upon further inspection under a bright light you can see the MAGLDR boot screen come up, and load all the way to the GO GO GO part, then it freezes and stops.
The screen is still black, and there's no light at all, you have to hold it DIRECTLY under bright light to see it.
I am ..or was...running the android NexusHD2 gingerbread 2.2 NAND (2.3.2) rom with MAGLDR 1.12 installed.
I can get into the boot menu, and all the hard buttons work. I can even play tetris, when i can see it. >.>
The MAGLDR seems to work fine, the android doesnt work, or load anyway.. I an go into USB flasher, option 5 on the boot menu, and reload android, but it does not resolve the problem.
Any suggestions oh wise XDA members?
I am not an expert when it comes to the hardware side of tbe HD2, bjt I am learning. It kinda sounds like you may have got some water inside the unit either through the speaker opening t the top of the front of the phone or in around the small openimgs around the buttons at the bottom of the front of the phone. My bet is it was the buttons cuase this is close to the digitizer. And it sort of sounds like the digitizer is malfuncting.
Seeing as you have tried reflashing the ROM the only real sugestion I got is maybe get you a small hex head screwdriver and open up your HD2. Take the mainboard out and the digitizer out and very lightly use a hair dryer on the low setting to try and dry them out. make sure to bold the dryer a good distance from them cause you do not want to get them hot just dry them out.
Now you still have a waranty I would just do a warranty exchange or have them repair it. If you don't have a warranty and don't want to try this I do not blame you. It is just the only idea I have. You can always find a cell phone repair shop and have them do it.
Best of luck.
This happened to me too. My HD2 was completely submerged, but luckily for me I had the torx needed to immediately open it up. I didn't use a dryer, but I did towel it off. Then I just left it off and apart for 5 days before I actually put in the battery and turned it on. I did have to replace the screen because it cracked to hell, but my main concern was knowing that it would still function. Good Luck.
Okay, I contacted HTC today after reinstalling winmo 6.5 stock for the HD2, A guy named bob told me I could send it in and have it repaired covered by HTC. My guess is that because the water damage indicators are white, they shouldn't void me, right?
I am guessing it IS the digitizer because of the following reasons.
Winmo works fine, though the sim card will need to be replaced, which is no problem. the touch screen does not function and the screen is still black and wont light up, but winmo boots successfully, like I said, viewing under bright light.
I think I am going to try and send it to HTC, if they say its void, then I am going to try repairing the digitizer, as the tmo digitizers are readily available now. Before that though, I will try your suggestion T-Macgnolia.
I'll post my results soon!
Hello,
Recently I was messing around in TWRP, trying to reflash a rom in an attempt to correct the touch screen not responding within a horizontal line about 25% the thickness of the phone, just above the middle of the screen. Thanks to the faulty touchscreen, I managed to get into screen settings and click something that instantly turned off the screen backlight. At the time, the screen appeared completely black. Upon closer inspection under light, I saw that the screen was on, just not backlit.
The phone will boot as normal and I can see the screen, barely, even if I seriously strain my eyes under direct light; for the most part I can only see white text like the clock on the lockscreen or the battery meter in TWRP.
With some repeated effort, I can get the phone into recovery/bootloader/download mode. I'd like to know where I can go from here to resolve the problem. I'm experienced with flashing and I'm decent with adb and fastboot, but I wasn't able to get fastboot to detect the phone even with the drivers installed.
Provided I can get the phone to show up on my PC, what should I flash to try and repair it? I have a D803 Rogers variant.
Note: I already tried to warranty it (risky with it rooted, I know), but they claimed there was water damage. The water strip may have been tripped by some steam from the shower, but I certainly have not submerged my phone, and the problem did not arise under moisture conditions.
Thanks for your help!
Last night I was busy using my S4 with it plugged into my PC.
It was resting on a flat hard surface. Nothing abnormal.
I was looking at the screen, not touching the phone and it suddenly turned a greenish tint colour with noisy coloured artifacts on the screen. I could still use the phone, but it looked odd. Everything was still visible at this point, just tinted green and with the artifacts.
I decided to power off the phone, and then power it on again to see what would happen.
Afterwards, the screen failed to turn on... somewhat. It's been doing the following behavior since:
When turning on, screen on black, following by a quick split second flash of the 'Galaxy S4' logo. Then black again. When charging the phone, I can see the battery 'loading' symbol flash too, or when going to download mode, I can see the 'warning' flash. When holding down the power button to force the phone to reboot, I can see the screen flicker too. It appears that I can see some flash when the screen first powers on... but it can't stay powered on(?)
The first time this happened, I could see a 1 pixel line on the top representing the colours of my boot animation, when booting but that only happened a few times. Now it does not.
I have opened the device, and checked the screen cable. Detached it, inspected it for dirt or dust. Gave the connectors a gentle blow with a hair dryer to remove any dust and re-attached to no avail.
I can still access the device via ADB and see it's screen via Android Screen Monitor.
The digitiser is working, as I can touch the phone and control it... it appears to be a problem with the GPU(?) or the LCD?
Can anyone make any recommendations? I really hope I don't have to spend lots of money on fixing this.
Thanks, all!
Shameless self bump. Merry Christmas! Santa threw a nice BRICK of coal (or phone) for me
I don't like to bump, but I am going to have to... sorry
I'm abroad, and Samsung said they can't fix it under warranty while abroad? I'll have to send it back home. Really? Bleh!
Has anyone else had this issue before? Is the problem just the LCD, or could it be something else?
One more bump... Anyone have any idea?

Are you also having the same issue?
If I get my Samsung looked at by a Samsung repair center overseas (outside my country of warranty) will that void my warranty?
Still haven't got an answer for my issue... so.... bump!
