Please all give your support, if you all so are sick and tired, for having paid nearly 1000$ for a phone that still is on Android Nougat 7.0. If we are lucky some will maybe get Oreo in marts, but more likely first after launch of Samsung Galaxy 9.
I will never buy Samsung phone again for sure. Overpaid switzerknife.
Most of us are already running Oreo on our devices

You only have yourself to blame, should have done your research before you buy a phone, sure Samsung don't haven't the fastest release cycle but this is not something new, you must have a lot money to throw money around willy nilly without doing your own due diligence 1st.
We've had Android phones for eight years. You should know by now which brands release updates faster than others. And Samsung isn't one of them.
That being said, I'm in no hurry to get Android Oreo. Nougat is one of the best Android has ever released, and it's working extremely well on my S7 and S8. Besides, they've been releasing security patches quite regularly, so they can release Oreo whenever they feel is ready.
What on earth gave you the idea that anyone cared in slightest what you think about samsungs release schedule, moreso what you plan purchasing or not purchasing (as the case may be)
Seriously i want to know so that i can hopefully make them stop.
Maybe a mod will see this and grant my second place wish, which is to lock this thread as not only does it not ask a question or answer one, it has no positive value whatsoever.
Sorry man people are right ! Samsung is not the fastest to give update but they aways bring the upadate for example oreo will be out at the end of february if you dont like to wait costom roms wit oreo as many as you like in here.....
Why when they do reviews they never complain about Bloat and no Updates?
It is like no reviewer has a clue..... S7, S8, S9
You get one update maybe 6 months after it is released. Yes Oreo is out 9 months after it was released, good luck getting the next release after Oreo.
You do not want any Samsung Apps .... good luck disabling them.
Me I am going with the next Pixel Phone I have had it with Samsung.

Why would you respond if you didn't care? ?
To be honest, for myself, having the newest Android isn't a problem.
I prefer having a phone with good overall hardware and processing capabilities. Also, so far, nothing very important comes to android oreo.
For instance, I prefer having a S8, 700~$ android nougat phone with Samsung Dex capabilities and great camera rather than having another brand, 500-600$ish android oreo phone with mediocre camera and hardware.
Exactly! There's so much to enjoy the S7 and S8 with Nougat.
I have oreo on my s8 and there isnt really a whole lot new, some, but not a lot.
I researched heavily into update releases, I originally bought the Sony XZ1 Compact with Oreo as Sony are supposedly really good at updates and to be honest they arent bad but the default Oreo software on those phones is seriously flawed with constant reboots on a number of exchanged devices. I ended up with Samsung as for the price they are ok, not super slow but not super fast and I've got a great little phone too.
Pixel 2 was a lot more expensive at the point I upgraded but if not Id have gone for that purely because of the updates.
My only disappointment with my S8 is the curved screen which looks great but serves no real purpose and inhibits the use of glass screen protectors. I now have to use a bulky wrap around case or take a big expensive risk. If it had a flat screen it would have been easy to get a screen protector for it. Oreo is great and im waiting for the final release too but I already have the beta and would be happy with Nougat too if I wasnt in beta.

I've already gave Samsung a piece of my mind on the topic, but one or a few persons isn't going to do it.
here's some facts to know beforehand:
SM-P600: Note 10.1 2014 Edition WIFI-ONLY (much older than Note Pro) received 5.1.1 update for various regions between early December 9th and January 16th
SM-T900: Tab Pro 12.2 WIFI-ONLY (same release date, cheaper product / lower paying customers) also received 5.1.1 updates Dec. 9 - Jan 16th
first, download the Samsung+ app if you don't have it already. go to the Support or Help Section, and start a Video Chat call (yes it works on Wi-Fi only). by default, the camera on your tab is off, if you wish for them to see you, you'll have to manually toggle it on during the call so don't worry about that. the video chat is U.S. based and almost always gets you a fluent English speaking agent capable of an intelligent conversation. the regular phone line is more likely to land you in India or Mexico and no speak ingles thank you for choose Samsung business appreciate come again byebye! or tangle you up in departments that either have no involvement in software support or have no way to pass along your thoughts.
next, proceed to complain either politely or passionately, whichever fits your fancy, about the lack of updates for (give the exact model number SM-P900) our tab.
be prepared, they will try in many ways to tell you there's nothing they can do or redirect the conversation to have you go check for newer software / how to check for newer software so they can get you off the call. we already know what the newest is and how to check. we're not stupid! ROUND TWO, FIGHT!
tell them how (use the model numbers and names) the older/cheaper devices already got 5.1.1 almost half a year ago. they will try to tell you that the carriers or some other entity are responsible for handling updates. WIFI ONLY devices get their updates from Samsung, not a 3rd party. don't let them end the call so easily! they may also try telling you that a 3rd party updated the other tabs. reassure them you're comparing apples-to-apples, Wi-Fi tabs to Wi-Fi tabs.
ROUND THREE! expect to hear something about their update support being designed to end at a time that encourages customers to purchase a new device. every new Wi-Fi tab Samsung has released after the Note Pro (and is planning to release through the end of the year 2016 http://tabletmonkeys.com/new-tablets/) are either 1. budget devices with lesser hardware in one category or another (which are for a different kind of customer), or 2. run different operating systems (windows, also for different kinds of customers), or 3. both
make it known how despicable it is to try and force us to new devices "even if the specs were better, which isn't the case" and that you insist your feedback gets noted and passed on to Relations and all other involved departments.
feel free to share if you have done this, you will have my thanks and that of many others
This won't work. The device is probably going to hit eol soon. But I tried anyway. I did a video call with Samsung support the through the Samsung+ app. The support agent was polite and gave me the same answers and I gave my response.
He also suggested to leave a bad review on the Samsung product page but that won't do anything. I'm pretty sure we are stuck with 5.0.1 or hopefully the developers can port other versions of Android to this device.
working or not, it's one of few avenues we got

We have unofficial Marshmallow builds. This one is works well if you don't care about the camera (which I've always found pointless on a giant tablet): http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...t/rom-cyanogenmod-13-0-android-6-0-1-t3366834

Not particularly with this device but on other devices I've seen random reboots.

You know, I was looking for official updates for our SM-P900. And I came across this. My opinion is that we always have the best option: learn from our mistakes, never do it again and move on. With that said, we all paid good money for that "premium" tablet. And since day one I felt I was going to pay dearly for having to buy another Samsung product. And sure s**t, I did. Which happens to be my last Samsung device. I forced myself to look for other products and was actually pleasantly surprised to find others. Maybe I didn't look hard enough, maybe the market is more mature, maybe I spent my money more wisely.
Note 5 for my wife and this SM-P900 were last Samsung devices we bought so it was a while back. Without realizing it, we went with 2 Sony android TVs when we could have bought Samsung TVs. We bought Rokus for older TVs. I bought a Nexus 6P to replace my Note 3 last year. We bought LG washer and dryer. Also LG fridge. And it feels good to not give them any more money.
And every dog has its day: Note 7.
Don't get me wrong Sterist, I truly admire your enthusiasm. I have been there. I am an IT Director with 20 years of experience so I came across very expensive pieces of hardware for a very long time. But it's good that we start growing a spine and start to really stick to them and mean it. I'm not a fan of anything. I don't discriminate. And today I recommend people to buy what's reliable. Usually Apple. When you have employees who constantly ask you personal questions about what to buy and you don't want to hear they complain weeks later after they bought what you recommended, well, you get smart and recommend whatever is going to help so they don't come back to haunt you.
(deep inside I am pissed like you and others about the SM-P900 and lack of support or for Samsung to just sit around like they always do for the EOL of this device)
Except for maybe security updates, this device doesn't need updating. Updates usually screw something up like the last update that borked the external keyboard until they released another update to fix. It's is still a great product and does everything I want it to do. If you think apple stuff may be better then go ahead and buy their stuff but expect to pay more. Recommending apple products on a samsung tablet forum is not cool.

Not necessarily. There are some more tweaks and updates that this tablet could use. Or at least thats what I think.
I have to say that buying this tablet when I did I though it would at least get upgraded to v6. The device is capable of so much more. I am using the unofficial CM 14.1 and mostly its very good. But as previous people have mentioned there are a few things that don't seem to work. The Microphone is one of them. The screen resolution is awesome using CM14.1!!
The hardware was ahead of the capability of the OS so updates should of been worked on.
It was good value but without the updates the timescale of that value is too short, If I had shelled out a bit more for something else I would have an updated OS which could make better use of the hardware underneath and the value would have applied over a longer period in reality making it cheaper. This experience has change my view on Samsung products. When I can finally put down money for a new tablet, I will be definitively be looking elsewhere for a brand that supports their products for longer.
I recently bought this tablet second hand because I wanted a premium tablet with the S Pen but I wasn't willing to wait/spend on the Tab S3. At the time, I didn't realize how old the Note Pro actually was so I was disappointed to find out that it's stuck on Lollipop (granted, my fault for not researching this first). Like dstote above, I figured Samsung would at least support it until Marshmallow considering the hardware specs. What a shame.
Of course, this then brought me to xda. I immediately flashed Lineage 14 but realized I really wanted TouchWiz back (never thought I'd say that). Next I tried Carbon which is a modified stock ROM. It worked well and was much faster than stock but I lost 5GHz wifi access--presumably because it was intended for the P901. I then settled on the Bussybox build which has been working great. The only issue is the occasional random reboot which I'm hoping gets ironed out in future builds. Here's hoping someone puts together a TouchWiz Nougat build because I'm not holding my breath for Samsung to do it.
In my case I bought the SM-P900 because I travel a lot and wanted something to work on (including sketching/ drawing), watch movies on, keep in touch with family and friends on and something that, being a premium product, Samsung would support.
The hardware is far more capable than the OS and the unfortunate thing is the lack of S Pen support in most of the custom builds. Until this device I'd had a Galaxy S2,3,4 & 5 and a couple of Samsung TV's. I now have an LG phone, 2 LG TV's and LG fridge - Not because they are any better (you've only got to look at their track record with updates) but because they offer better value for money - We also have 2 Motorola and an Oppo phone in the house - All of the samsungs are stuck in a drawer with various flavours of lineage or CM on them as back ups. Apple - not for me - it's too locked down - but at least it's well supported.
Vote with your wallets, it's clearly the only thing Samsung understand.
According to this article Sammy decided to discontinue production of the Note 7. Therefore that should make the S7 top dog again right?.. At least until the S8 next year. What I'm saying is maybe we're going to end up with Nougat a bit sooner?.. Since Samsung only has 1 flagship to focus on at this point.. Any other thoughts out there?
http://www.theverge.com/2016/10/11/13202608/samsung-galaxy-note-7-discontinued
It may speed up the Nougat process a bit but I wouldn't hold my breath. I know T-Mobile is in the early testing stages still so we'll see I guess.
It means we'll get it when we get it. Everything else is just Internet scuttlebutt.
Probably means that developers who had the note 7 probably changed to a S7 or Edge, which will probably speed up unlocking bootloader and more subscribers to this forum section. Hopefully we get the latest Android by Christmas.
Thoughts?

This like everything else is a misunderstanding. They are NOT going to ditch the Iris scanning tech, the s-pen and the rest. They have to much invested in the pen and the apps that go along with it. It would be beyond stupid to do so. My best bet would be no more phone labeled Note since the name is so tainted. I would bet we see an S8, S8 Edge and S8 Pro next year with tons of 3rd party reports of verification before launch of any. I would also bet that the many, many other series of phones will go by the wayside so they can focus on them.
We'll see but I am very skeptical about them ditching the tech from the Note 7.

I agree 100% with you. There's no way you can just abandon something like that. Esp. when that was a huge selling point for a like of people.
One of the strong points of the Nexus and Pixel line is that you can get frequent updates (https://developers.google.com/android/images). How will the updates look like from Essential? One time upgrade, and then abandon us? Or frequent ASOP updates with fixes?
Whatever they may say about it, we won't really know until the updates come or not. It's being said it's either very close to stock or stock so getting upgrades out should be easy enough in a practical sense.
I'm pretty sure Rubin said in his hour long interview witih Walt Mossberg that it would get regular month security updates, if not better.
The bigger concern is how long will they support the phone for? Just two or three years like Google (making the phone insecure and obsolete after that)? Or five years like Apple? Even more importantly, what if they just don't succeed. If the company folds after a year or two, there will certainly be no updates after that. That's a chance one takes with a new company.
The community will carry it for a while if they move enough of them. As to Rubin, the proof is in the pudding. We've been sold the regular updates thing before and never actually got them or had them stop short. Time will tell.
I don't see updates being a problem. It seems to pretty much be stock Android with a few added features for the cameras and their modules to be released.
Right, but the question is how long they will lag. Lots of manufacturers make claims about updates.
Have they made any statements?
I played with one yesterday and it is almost completely stock 7.1.1 except for the camera software and the little bits in the code that control the modules. I see Andy making sure this gets updated to Oreo by the time the new pixels drop. that is 2 months out. dont quote me though
This is what I wanted to know, since its basically stock. Will it get Oreo (Android 8.0) fairly soon?

Considering how Android Oreo is built I say there is a good chance of quickish updates. 8.0 keeps the make Android code separate from any customizations now. They leave the hooks open do to your own thing besides their code. I think this is why Andy went super stock with 7.1.1 to make it easier later on and they can do more customization leader with their software because it will be easier after Oreo.

MKBHD and I were talking to one of their software engineers (who use to work for Google as well) at the event on Monday and he told us they were already working on Oreo. In MKBHD's unboxing and first impressions video he mentioned a few of the things that were talked about in that discussion like it being easier to quickly update because it's so close to stock etc.. Although, once they release their home device with Ambient OS I bet we see more customizations on the phone firmware to accommodate that
One thing I question, why 7.1.1 vs 7.1.2? .2 offered a few neat last bit of features before 8.0 so its interesting why almost all OEM's have stuck with 1.1 before possibly jumping to 8.0.

Unless I'm reading it wrong it looks like the 7.1.2 update was targeted for Nexus and Pixel devices. Most of the fixes fix issues specific to those devices so why would an OEM port an update that doesn't affect their device.

This may be true, but it did also bring thins like the long touch shortcut feature as well as the fingerprint sensor swipe feature that may work on other hardware that had the same sensor hardware.
It's not a big deal, and though we have 8.0 now, I might want to wait a bit for Google to release a update to that as well hearing what I am from early adopters that have 8.0 now on their Pixel's. New features and battery life improvements plagued with persistent notifications, worse BT, and other odds and bits that seem like rushed bugs.
Exactly what I would expect from Version X.0 for a major OS change so not surprising at all.

A very valid concern. Especially since these sorts of people and companies throw a bunch of money at stuff and if it doesnt look like it is going to get the giant return on the investment they hope within a year or so then they do shut it down and move on to their next big thing.
My other concern with this is if we will get full kernel source or not as well. I would assume yes, since Andy helped make the deal about Andsroid being so open and sources available, but you never know with phone OEMs. Even though this is basically stock ROM, I bet the kernel source will be needed so we can interface the best with the accessory pins and make use of the custom camera stuff.

Also, even if they make the kernel source available, will the phone be popular with developers? It seems like the sort of phone that might. As you say, Rubin is very supportive of open source (even on the hardware for the modules). But on the other hand, it's an expensive and quirky phone. Even the Pixel (with its huge price jump and move away from the Nexus brand) took much longer to catch on with developers than previous Nexus phones had. I'm hoping the devs like it.
What community thinks?
yeah man sure
Definitely not. LG destroys their own Community with super slow updates, or better say, no Updates.
It's pretty poor to buy flagship **** and getting only one major update. This was definitely my last "Flagship Device". My next one will be a cheap middle class **** with a huge battery. I only need Spotify, Battery and Internet.
Im still stuck on october security patch on my flagship, yes, half year without a single update, and ppl ask for android 9? Hilarious
I have had android phones from 5 major different companies (HTC, Samsung, Sony, Huawei, LG) and it has been the exact same story with all of them over the years.
People always complain and with every phone there was a thread on XDA where they said this is the worst android company ever and this will be their last phone. The reality is that updates have been about the same with every phone from all those different companies. You get one, maybe two major updates. But you can't expect anything. Don't buy a phone with the "wrong OS" and hope for an update that solves issues or something. It probably won't happen. Major updates usually make things worse!
Plus, companies can change a lot over the course of two years. The smartphone market is crazy. If update support really is one of your top priorities then I'd suggest Apple. They have been consistently good with updates. Updates introduce just as many problems or even more, but they come fast and for a long time... I'd always prefer controlling the upgrade process myself though.
Instead I started to look for phones that have everything I need right out of the box. And if you're here on XDA make sure that you can unlock and flash whatever you want. That's the single best way to make sure that your phone will still be usable/interesting after two years. Because no company supports longer than two years. That's just how it is in the android world.
Officialy no chance. I'm sure i'll run P on G6 this summer with Lineage.
Do you think we'll get Oreo?
Never
Of course not
I'd be glad to even get Oreo. That's why I'm making the switch to Nokia. My "backup" phone just got better. Android 8.1 with April security patch. Beat that, LG.
No we no get
Reason G6 skip 9 we jump to andromedus 13 Relase date 2034 jan 28

Yes, eventually we will get P.
It's all about trust. LG has recently said to have built a new facilty to improve the software support of its smartphones.
If LG decides not to upgrade the G6 to P, it will just be the end of the brand and there'll be consequences about any other future product they are going to produce. Who's gonna buy a G7 then?

But, I remember that LG always does the same thing since G2. When a new phone is on the way, (like G7 will be announced next month) they always say "We are pursuing new methods and building new facilities to make updates faster" etc. But we're here.

I just don't like how it looks. Google is forcing this ugly "roundness" everywhere along with the colorful icons, light themes and blocked custom overlays etc. The only hope would be a custom ROM.
So i bought this phone since it released in my country, i bought the 6Gb ram version and i was too excited about, Android one phone with great specs according to the price, but i am a lil bit disappointed right now,
The update releases is a bit confusing as we can see what's happening with pie updates.
The development is too slow as there no working twrp and related stuff.
Forgive my ignorance as coming from HTC M8 with its big development from its early stages , this phone disappointed me, but dont get me wrong i am happy with the phone regarding its battery life what annoying me a bit but the fast charger make it up to me.
So based on ur experience guys what do u expect guys and is the fourms going to be on fire soon or is it going to be like that all along ?
its going to be alive for sure, but you won't get first-class support, also for sure. this phone is good for people who are on a budget yet want to have a fairly up-to-date software (including security updates) and don't expect pixel-level support. If you are one of these people, A2 is probably one of the best phones you can get. But if you expect a pixel-level support then you should probably go buy pixel
It will get better, but don't expect anywhere near the support your old phone had, that was a flagship and a very successful one, I don't I've tried a quarter of the roms that were available for my m7
Yu are being given more than just descent specs for a more than descent price but no updates should be fast like google pixel ... well not gonna happen
Software r&d is not cheap as yu can see many here on xda develop on in there spare time and with donations and i dont think even though xiaomi have great revenue and sales they are yet ready to speed up the process (FOR ME UPDATES ARE ALREADY FAST ENOUGH EVEN NOW BETTER THAN MY SAMSUNG GALAXY S7 THAT WAS WORTH 49999 rs)
Moral of the story is = just because yu are given good hardware at a fine price dont expect them to give yu fast software support too ( only if yu have a pixel )
Otherwise apple phones get ios for really long time( enjoy there new emoji in every damn update )

Mates i didn't expect pixel level of support at all, it just i didnt think Android One phone would get low development and update like that,
I can run Android pie on my M8 which pretty old phone now, but u cant run it on my 2018 Android one device, does that make any sense to you mates ??
On the other hand pocophone got it's official TWRP and keep being updated while the price difference is t that much though.

Why the hell are yu guys quoting me when i am making the exact same point that yu made
This is a budget phone not pixel lile ( COMPARED TO MY S7 JUST TO MAKE A POINT and even if my s7 is a flagship it gets security patches at end of each month whereas this MI A2 Gets updated on start of each month and that too sometimes more than one update )
I used to use an OPO which had and to a certain extent still has a lively developer scene (It's been a few months since the first Pie popped in the forums for it).
I don't neither expect nor foresee that sort of activity over here. This is a mid-range budget phone.
Then again, at least, bootloader unlock is hassle free.

I came from an OPO myself. And kind of disappointed with lack of development for now. It's a new phone and hopefully it'll pick up. It's a good phone don't get me but it's a "meh" or "alright" phone after a few weeks. Definitely a forgettable phone. Feel like I should've gone pocophone fone (1)
