But must run in bckground? Or no? In Lineage you can block natively all data access, not on stock?

I don't think it 'runs' in background. It just sets ipconfig rules to prevent blacklisted apps from connecting. You can do that yourself in terminal if you want, but the app automates it... (however, I don't totally understand it...)

Is there any software that monitors our usage of tethering (snitching to AT&T for those of us without a tethering plan)? If so, what is it?
Software will prevent you from tethering without a tethering plan (or code to bypass those checks).
The only way AT&T knows if you are tethering is if they decide to investigate packet data. They can tell if the requests originated from your device or some other system (like a PC or tablet). AT&T will look deeper into your packet data if your usage raises a flag for them.
not my method, but ES file explorer will bypass checking your tethering provision and create a hotspot.
1. make sure you have WiFi off, the app won't do that automatically.
2. launch es file explorer.
3. press the menu button > tools > net manager > create a hotspot network.
4. enjoy.

I had mine rooted but this didn't work either. I don't have ATT so that might be why... I would really like to use the hotspot and tethering in the stock menu but I guess I'll have to wait till there's custom roms out...

Follow the instructions here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2348261 then open noattched's app for his framework mod, under "Framework" I believe there is an option to enable WiFi tethering. This works on my S4 Active and was designed for use on the S4.

It didn't work with my T-Mobile SIM, it just kept saying invalid SIM and turning the hotspot back off. It's not that big of a deal, not enough for me to take the phone back anyway!
I really like the framework mod btw, so thanks for that!

1) disable "TetheringProvision" using AppQuarantine
2) Use EF File Explorer to enable a mobile hotspot
3) You still get an error message that settings stopped responding but the hotspot stays active.
I am rooted, of course.
Thank you!
still looking

I have tried many different apps and methods but I cannot get wifi tethering to work. I tried using xtether but it still looks like it's pulling from my 5GB tethering cap.
Has anyone figured out how to wifi tether from your mobile (non tethering) data yet?

I am extremely new to Android. My Note 4 is rooted but I don't know what TWRP is or how to use the contents of that zip file.
I'm beginning to research now but any help to expedite my learning would be much appreciated!

Working on it now. What I am wondering is, when I flash this thing in TWRP will it be an actual app that will appear in my app drawer? Or does it alter some system files to let me use the stock tethering application without limit?\
Also, I'm guessing I should disable the xtether module I have in xposed?

Its probably SuperSU searching for SU binary updates (not the app)
is there an app/ method to make apps, that auto close when your device is root, to ignore the root/make them belive that it is not rooted?
Thanks

In magisk you can hide apps(magisk hide) also there's a safetynet fix module for magisk.

doesnt work. The app called PushTAN it of a german bank. It sends to you a confirmation message that you need to enter when you want to make any sort of bank transfer or something like that. When I push the app it automatically closed.

Please: You should mention the app and your device setup if you want further detailed assistance. People with similar problems on that app may help but without the exact app name it's not possible.
"Doesnt work" seems to me that you already tested both methods on magisk(which version?)?
guessing it's that app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.starfinanz.mobile.android.pushtan it's the silliest banking app I know.

Have you tried "Hide Magisk Manager" in Settings of the Manager App?
Maybe the App checks for Package Names.
The TAN App of DKB (another german bank) does this, but you can use it with this trick.

Probably you misunderstood them, because "Magisk Hide" (where you select apps to hide from root) is something else than "Hide Magisk Manager" (which repackages the Magisk app to a different package name).

Yeah that's the problem with the translation as you can see in my Screenshot. Magisk hide isn't the same as magisk hide mentioned before:silly:
some apps doesn't work if the kernel is permissive even if you hide them in magisk.
You need to make kernel enforcing to run the apps.
I am a grab driver and i just wonder how dev can fix root detection by grab driver application. What i have done hide magisk, repackage, hide anything about google but it stills detect.
Did your problem solved? I have the same problem.

Seems there is an xposed module for hiding an app from another, if you care to test:

Does any of this method work for you?
Hi friends,
I noted that Grab app itself also asks for superuser permission at the start.
Does anyone have a clue why the app needs it and how I can check which commands it runs?

It's asking for root to fool you. Easiest way for an app to detect a device is rooted is for it to try and gain root rights itself.
