Anyone know what Google Market does when you update your app?
Does it delete what's on the phone first or just install the app? i.e. will it wipe-out any user changed database data? Assume the update IS NOT to the database, just a simple text change.
TIA,
Roots

Hi,
The Market downloads the updated application and installs it over your existing one. It doesn't delete your user data as well.
Thank you, I wasn't 100% sure. I tested an update by sending friend the new apk and they installed it. All user data stayed intact; same as the market.
Thank you again!

Is there any software that monitors our usage of tethering (snitching to AT&T for those of us without a tethering plan)? If so, what is it?
Software will prevent you from tethering without a tethering plan (or code to bypass those checks).
The only way AT&T knows if you are tethering is if they decide to investigate packet data. They can tell if the requests originated from your device or some other system (like a PC or tablet). AT&T will look deeper into your packet data if your usage raises a flag for them.
not my method, but ES file explorer will bypass checking your tethering provision and create a hotspot.
1. make sure you have WiFi off, the app won't do that automatically.
2. launch es file explorer.
3. press the menu button > tools > net manager > create a hotspot network.
4. enjoy.

I had mine rooted but this didn't work either. I don't have ATT so that might be why... I would really like to use the hotspot and tethering in the stock menu but I guess I'll have to wait till there's custom roms out...

Follow the instructions here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2348261 then open noattched's app for his framework mod, under "Framework" I believe there is an option to enable WiFi tethering. This works on my S4 Active and was designed for use on the S4.

It didn't work with my T-Mobile SIM, it just kept saying invalid SIM and turning the hotspot back off. It's not that big of a deal, not enough for me to take the phone back anyway!
I really like the framework mod btw, so thanks for that!

1) disable "TetheringProvision" using AppQuarantine
2) Use EF File Explorer to enable a mobile hotspot
3) You still get an error message that settings stopped responding but the hotspot stays active.
I am rooted, of course.
Thank you!
still looking

I have tried many different apps and methods but I cannot get wifi tethering to work. I tried using xtether but it still looks like it's pulling from my 5GB tethering cap.
Has anyone figured out how to wifi tether from your mobile (non tethering) data yet?

I am extremely new to Android. My Note 4 is rooted but I don't know what TWRP is or how to use the contents of that zip file.
I'm beginning to research now but any help to expedite my learning would be much appreciated!

Working on it now. What I am wondering is, when I flash this thing in TWRP will it be an actual app that will appear in my app drawer? Or does it alter some system files to let me use the stock tethering application without limit?\
Also, I'm guessing I should disable the xtether module I have in xposed?

Once installed just open your hotspot ( or whatever T-mobile calls it) and use it as normal it will not count againstyour data tether it will work from your phones internet ie your tether data will not be used at all so stop paying for it
Hey guys,
I have a rooted phone with twrp and xposed. The problem is that I become since today notifications that a firmware update is available. I dont want to go through the rooting process again (since I am waiting for CM13 anyway). So how can I delete the notification? It is quite annoying. Thanks to all.
Long press on the notifications should take you to the notification center, then you disable every thing

I don't mean a notification in the status bar. I mean that the update menu opens several times a day (see picture). How can I disable it?

Look for the updater app in the app menu delete data, force close it and block it from accessing network both on WiFi and Mobile Data; that should do it

I already did this, but no root. I keep receiving the same pop page Updater.
And if I block the app Updater to acess Cell Phone and Storage I get the warning to enable Storage for Updater, it needs IMEI and IMSI to be able to update EVERYTIME I connect to a Wifi. Dont know what's worst.
Anyone knows how to block all of this?
Uninstall the updater using adb, I will write how to do it in the: https://forum.xda-developers.com/huawei-p9lite/how-to/unified-help-thread-huawei-p9-lite-t3649152
Number 8, Tweaks and modifications

Oh lord, I thought I was the only one having this stupid warning every time it switches on WIFI or back from plane mode.
What's the exact command to delete the update then? I saw the Tweak topic but it doesn't mention what to type as the package name to remove the update. I would say "updater", as simple as that ? But I won't do it unless I'm sure I'm not messing my smartphone.
Thanks

Hi
I found the update file on Archives, in a folder called HwUOC or something like this
thats what I did: deleted this folder then blocked all permissions on app updater
note this will only delete the downloaded file, but the warning keeps popping
Can you do this on stock? On Lineage there is option to prevent app from wifi and cellular data.

But must run in bckground? Or no? In Lineage you can block natively all data access, not on stock?

I don't think it 'runs' in background. It just sets ipconfig rules to prevent blacklisted apps from connecting. You can do that yourself in terminal if you want, but the app automates it... (however, I don't totally understand it...)
