SIM Card keeps locking itself - OnePlus 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello people,
since 1 month my SIM-Card keeps randomly locking itself, so that I have to enter the PIN again and than its taking some time before I got reception again.
The strange thing is that I didn't change anyhting, I was on the latest AOSP Extended Rom and it just started to happen out of nowhere.I switched to dotOS recently, I noticed no change to this behaviour...
I hope someone of you can help me with that since I'm seriously thinking about buying a new phone because of this problem :/
Many Thanks in advance!
EDIT:
If anybody got the same problem: I solved mine by cleaning my SIM-Card and putting it back in. I honestly didn't thought that it could be a "hardware" problem but I got 3 straight days without network drops, which is nice

HTC Elf crashes when accessing the SIM

Hi there,
I have this strange problem with my HTC Elf. The problem existed with the original ROM (5.0) and after my upgrade to 6.5 as well.
It started once a Month, but now it's twice a day.
If i receive or make a call, receive or send a SMS the device just shuts down immediately. (like a hard reset).
The device then automatically starts up, i get the "Smart mobility" screen and then it starts over again. The boot cycle runs endless, until i remove the battery and start again. Sometimes i need to remove/replace the battery 3 or 4 times to get it booting up again. (Doing this booting drains a lot of battery power)
If i remove the SIM Card, everything works fine for hours and booting isn't a problem at all. So I believe accessing the SIM Card somehow craps the device out. The boot-cycle seems to happen in the last stage of booting, when the device first tries to access the SIM card. (That's something i have to suspect, cause there is no way to log the booting).
I don't believe that it's connected to the ROM Upgrade to 6.5 i did, as the problem happened in 5.0 as well... (btw. everything is much faster and more light-weight since the 6.5 upgrade. It's just great.)
Here are my questions:
- Is there something, I could log the boot process, to see what's the last action when it starts over again?
- Is there something like an event log in windows, where I see the last action or even failure / exception, before the device restarts while doing a call / writing an SMS?
- Did anyone see this happen before?
Thanks for any input!
Hi
Have you tried to change the Sim card or use another one just in case the sim is the problem?
Hi Tito,
I plan to swap SIM's next weekend. But i don't get how a SIM can crash the whole thing. I would understand getting errors like "Can't read SIM" but auto-resetting the whole device?
Anyhow, I'll post an update after trying another SIM. The whole thing is, that it's not reproducible by a specific action one could take. So if the device keeps up even for 2 days with a spare SIM - that doesn't mean the SIM's chip is the problem. Just an indication...
Thanks,
mc
Hi
Please do post the result
I had the same problem (endless reboot) on my Elf. I solved it by replacing the battery.
Hi,
well it's like always. If you need the problem, you cannot reproduce it.
The device wasn't crashing even once on the weekend.. Either with my own SIM or with another one.
The battery thing is interesting. As soon, as the problems start reoccurring, I've got now a spare SIM card to test. If this fails, I'm able to test with another battery in march.
I'll post any results.
thanks,
mc
I have the same problem...and also struggles to find a signal. Did you solve the problem yet?
same problem
I have the same problem and !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
well, the thing is i upgraded to the HD2 and didn't use my elf pretty much lately.
I changed my provider and got a new SIM but that didn't solve the issue. So I can exclude the fault being in the ROM or the SIM card.
When the elf was crashing I couldn't start it up. It was booting, and as soon as it tried to register itself in the Network, it crashed again. However, when connecting it to a power source (charger or pc) and booting it up, it went fine through and was able to register in the network.
That brings me to the idea, the even if the battery is full at 100% it might have a flaw and doesn't bring enough energy, when the device is scanning for the available networks.
So next time, I'm in china, I'll get a new battery pack for my elf - however, it's no more that important as my HD2 is running pretty fine.
Hope it's something which can help you.
cheers,
mc

SIM Unavailable or Damaged?

I just installed WM7 (XBMod) yesterday, so far its awesome.
Yesterday while my phone was sitting idle it decided to stop reading my TMO US Sim card. Was giving error SIM Unavailable or Damaged while sending SMS. A reboot of the device fixed it but I was wondering if anyone else has had this and how often?
I've never faced such a problem nor read about it here on xda.
Probably something minor, don't worry and enjoy WP7
It happened to me a couple of time last weekend. I fixed it by turning flight mode on and off. I have no idea what was causing it.
Happened to me again yesterday, not sure when it broke but buddy of mine sent me a sms at around 5pm and I didn't realize it wasn't working until he asked why I didn't respond at around 7:45...
a reboot fixes it but unless you are looking at your phone there is no way to know it is not reading the sim.

frustrating problem where the phone is lagging/restarting with sim card inserted.

Let me start off by saying that this issue started back at the beginning of Dec 2015. I've had the phone since winter 2014, and for a year, it was the most amazing phone ever. However, one day as mentioned beginning in dec 2015, the phone began running extremely slow and was restarting frequently. I assumed it was a just a OS issue, and so I did a system factory reset. However, the problem persisted even after a reset and cache clearing. So I called up Samsung, and then told me to send in the phone to get looked at. Since then...I have sent in the phone 4 times to get looked and each time, Samsung has said there is no issue pretty much. I've tried phone with different new batteries, and the same problem still occurs.
The oddest thing that I've noticed with this issue is the phone runs smoothly and flawlessly, when there is no SIM card inserted. But, as soon as I insert my At&T sim card into the phone, all the lagging/restarting issues occur. It's been a frustrating 3 months trying to deal with issue, and i'm at the point where i'm throwing in the towel and calling it quits on trying to fix this phone that costed me so much money.
At&t reps were clueless when I brought this issue to them today, and told me to call samsung....even though samsung says at this point it's a network provider issue and that I bring it to At&t. I've googled this issue and couldn't find anything on this. Posting on here is my last ditch effort, and if anyone knows anything that can, I would very much appreciate it. If not, i'll prob buy a new phone out of pocket.
having the same issue since 2 days after sim change
Hi, I recently switched my carrier and inserted a new sim. Phone worked fine initially but after 1 day it has started working extremely slow. It sometimes does not wake up from sleep even when i press the home button repeatedly. Sometimes it hangs and then gets into bootloop. I factory reset my phone yesterday and the issue resolved initially but when i installed and restored my watsapp messages, the issues started all over again. Now i am thinking of flashing my phone with a different ROM and see if it helps.

thanks dr. geek, keep me posted on how that goes.
Problem persisting even after flashing a new rom
I flashed a 5.1.1 australian ROM downloaded via sammobile. but the phone started hanging again this morning. I am beginning to wonder if its an hardware problem.
I have the same problem ...
Have had my Note 4 since November 2014. And it havebeen working flawless, running rooted and everything Until yesterday when i was just casually using my phone and it started to lag and restart, no difference whatever rom. So i tried for a whole day to get it into official firmware with alot of error messages in the progress about the internal memory etc, i ended up repartitioning, and modifying my PIT-file until i finally got it working. And the same issues did still exist. Now the thing that seemed to work for me was to change battery, now it seems to run again without lagging, or anything. Tho it wont restart properly without restarting twice by itself..

Hi, i doubt it to be a battery issue. Anyways, i would really appreciate if u post an update again after 1-2 days. i just want to confirm it before spending money on a new battery.

Hey yeah, well. you're right. I only got up to 3 hour use before same problems started to occur again. I have officially given up now tho, it must be a hardware failure. Im going to send it in.
its the EMMC chip bug

I am also getting a black screen sometimes before booting which says "ddi EMMC error". I think my nand chip is corrupted. Is any one of u getting the similar error?? Also flashing my phone with a PIT file can solve the issue ??

Im getting the same, i guess you could try it. But from what ive read it seems like the only fix is for samsung to exchange your phone, or change motherboard.
Good luck with samsung fixing it. I sent it in 4 times and each they responded "no problem found". I gave up and bought a moto e.
Flashed again with PIT+Re-partition

Yesterday i flashed my phone again, this time with a PIT file and repartitioning checked. Eveything went fine but the phone went into recovery booting bootoop initially but started on its own after a few bootloops. It worked fine for sometime, but when i entered my samsung account and it started to restore my msgs, call logs and apps, after 1 hour or so it started to freeze all over again. I am starting to think that some app could be a reason too. Now i will flash again and keep using it without restoring my old phone and installing only a few essential apps and see what happens

I also installed an app from the play store EMMC brickbug check but it says that my NAND chip is sane (fine i guess)
Same happens to to my note 4 snapdragon phe.
Any updates ? Did anyone got it back fixed from Samsung?
Good luck
My T-mobile Note 4 started experiencing this same issue last week. Is this a coincidence or something more? For everyone with the same issue, has your phone been slightly warmer at the top?
I purchased a new Anker battery to see if that will resolve the issue and will test it when it comes. But I think the emmc is starting to go bad? It seems to work fine without a SIM card inserted also.
I just received from samsung that they need to replace the motherboard, and of course the warranty isnt covering up since i rooted it. And they're going to want 540 USD from me to do that. Sigh, last phone i bought from samsung for sure.

Weirdest Issue regarding SIM card i've ever experienced, help please!

Hey xda techies and guru's, i need some major desperate help here...
This is going to be a long read, but its for the sake of understanding and what exactly is happening, I hope you read on and hopefully have an idea as to what's going on.
So i've been a Rogers customer for the past 7 years, i've been using the Galaxy S3 for 4 of those years using the same SIM card. Just recently, I decided to upgrade and purchased a Galaxy S5. I put my new sim card in the S5 and everything was working flawlessly for about 2 months and then one morning I was sending some texts out, and didn't receive any all day so i checked my texts and realized they did not send. I then tried to make a call and got a message stating "not registered on network". So being the troubleshooting/techy guy i think i am, i go to google and start trying every solution out there. I got so desperate at wanting to fix this issue i had eventually factory reset, and even stock rom flashed the phone...but nothing i tried or did seemed to fix this issue. I put my sim card back in my S3 and it seemed to work just fine, so I figured nothing was wrong with the sim card, it had to be the S5...so here i am out of solutions to try, i randomly grab my brothers sim card from his phone and put it in my S5, and to my surprise it worked! so i thought that maybe the sim card was actually at fault. so i go to my nearest rogers store and get a new sim card, low and behold it's fixed!!!
...a week later, my phone decides to repeat the same ordeal. "not registered on network", so i go back to rogers and get a new sim card again, seems like it fixed the issue once again. and then a week later, same thing happens yet again. at this point...my phone has a temporary fix, but is way to unreliable as i have no idea when this starts happening and can miss very important phone calls or texts. So now this happens again the other night, and i put the sim into my S3 for a couple hours, make some calls and then for the heck of it decide to try it in my S5 again, and it worked! but it worked for maybe 16 hours until repeating the same thing. so i pop it back into my S3 make some test calls, and put it back into my S5 and now it's working again...for how long, i have no idea...fact is it's unreliable and i hate always having to check my phone in paranoia that this may happen again.
what do you guys think is the problem here? Rogers is willing to help me get it serviced for free. but i feel like they won't find the issue with the time they are given with it...
desperate need of help/advice. thanks!

Sim Card Randomly Dropping?

Just picked up one of these phones. Really like it so far! One issue I've noticed though, after a few days of ownership, it's randomly dropping/not detecting the sim card? It's happened at least twice where I've left it to charge over night and woke up to the no sim icon, and yesterday at some point while I was watching YouTube videos in full screen (in my hands, off charger, no notice of the drop either whenever it actually occurred). Quickly popping the sim tray out and in resolves the issue. At first I thought it was because I was using a manually cut sim card, so I've since replaced the sim but the problem persists.
Anyone else have this issue? Should I have the device exchanged?
Thanks
First the phone froze and after restart dropped sim
I just had the same issue occur just now. The phone had frozen for over an hour before I did a forced reset and now when it started back it shows no SIMCARD and no connectivity. I am like you, I really like this phone but hopefully this isn't a permanent issue.
Watched it happen just now. Goes from bars to no sim icon without error or notice. Resetting the network settings, resetting the phone, and powering it off/on won't fix it. Literally have to pop the sim in and out and its recognized right away.
I lost sim recognition after I flashed to LOS 11/30 and no matter what I tried, phone would not recognize the sim. Once I flashed back to stock, it came back. Hopefully this was due to the rom and the problem won't come back.
I am not sure if I lose the SIM, but I will say that when I am driving around with Android Auto, I constantly see the cell signal go from LTE to no signal every couple minutes...

Had same issues when I flashed back to stock I actually have better signal than when I got it out of the box.... Almost as if the software wasn't installed correctly or something
Same here I'm on the stock room. I'm wondering if it is an app I downloaded. Any idea how to wipe cashe not the apps but system.
This is happening at least twice a day now. It seems to be software related. Power off and on without taking out sim fixes it.
