HI,
so I bought a 4G connection like a month ago, and a weird thing is happening, only Facebook messenger is working on mobile data, and by working I mean fully working: video and audio chat, message, photo and audio send and receive, everything, all the other apps display "no connection".
I've checked all the setting of the phone, I activated data Roaming, but nothing.
so, did anyone experienced a similar problem?
thanks in advance
Good year, surely it is:
* It seems that the problem is the configuration of the protection / economizer / mobile data saving, to verify that you should look at that mobile data connections are not deactivated and check that they are interesting for you (if they are not Marked connections with mobile data are not allowed, and therefore you will get the error that there is no connection)

Hi,
i have a problem with the Live Services on my Xperia (Vodafone branding, Germany). Even if WLAN is active and I have no problems in going online with Opera or IE, Live Services (Messenger, Live Search etc.) still want to connect over GPRS.
I tried to set up a default internet profile, only using WLAN for every program in the network manager but Live Services don't care. They automatically activate data connection if it is set to off.
I read about a workaround for this issue in this forum (but for different devices), which said to cancel the GPRS connection as it tries to connect, while WLAN is active; but this workaround doesn't work. In this case I get an error message that the connection did not success.
The interesting issue is that most of the XPeria users obviously have the opposite problem, that they cannot open up a connection via GPRS for Live Services...
Has anybody a suggestion, about getting Live Services online via WLAN?
Thanks for any help..

.. i just figured out that, also windows update function wants to use GPRS, eventhough I'm connected to my wireless LAN..
I have the same ******* thing. Here how I work around it
1) terminate Messaging
2) close Data connection (gprs/edge)
3) start wifi
4) Start -> Programs -> Windows Live (shortcut)
5) Synchronize from Windows Live Panel
thanx for the rapid answer. I'll give it a try. But I'm pretty sure this will not work in my case; I think, I do follow these steps in general. Data connections are always off, and Messaging is only active if I really write an SMS.
The steps 3-5 are also the usual way when I try to connect with Live Messenger.
Nevertheless I will take care of them and try..
double postet the message

hi,
I just tried the workaround. But as I clicked synchronize from Windows Live Panel, this also turned GPRS on and tried to connect. Cancelling the GPRS connection led to an error message, which told me, I should make it sure, that data connection tarif is supported by my provider..
I keep getting this message despite turning on wifi, gprs... what should I do?
Windows Live was unable to establish an Internet Connection. Please check your Internet settings and make sure that you have access to data services under your billing plan. If you need help, please contact your mobile service provider.
the vodafone support hotline says, Messenger can only run in 3G mode. So the problem is officially a vodafone branding problem.
Does anybody know any chance to get rid of the built in programs without flashing the rom?
I got the same problem. And I used another ROM. Messenger can be available via WIFI.
@benny
which rom version did you use? did you flash it yourself?

incase anyone hadnt found that.
works for me! (UK, Xperia & Vodafone branded)
good luck.
use the no data cab
I have noticed my Xperia has turned on the data connection a few times without me requesting it to. I was not doing anything, so hopefuly i will not be charged (i don't have any web usage in my contract).
Is there anything i can install that will password protect the data connection or at least stop it acciedently turning on?
Had the same with my Prophet - in the end I installed SPB GPRS Monitor which gave me an idea of how much it used (could also set it to warn you when it went over limits, cut connection I think, etc)
Next to that, whenever I wanted to disable it (e.g. roaming, etc) I changed the networks used (settings-->connections-->select networks) to something without settings, that way programs that connected automatically didn't find the right settings and couldn't connect (for when the phone was in my pocket etc).
Not sure if there is an app available now to PW protect the data connection - been on an unlimited plan for a while now (internet/rss feeds etc).
I had a similar issue until my data plan became active.
There's a free program on the modaco website called nodata that allows you to turn off/on the data connections when needed. It worked very well whilst I was using it.
... here's the link NoData Utility (Modaco)
Hi guys
After I activated my data services, I'm having problems with voice connections.
Usually(not always) it just kills my connection if i'm connected to data, but from time to time it says i cannot dial because my service is not available (or something like this).
is there a way to fix this?
I'm on vodafone Romania
Hello.
I came from a NOKIA 5800 XPRESS MUSIC Symbian smartphone, where my packet data connection settings were ready to go by default, so I didn't have to set up manually the 2G/EDGE internet connection from my provider.
But...
After buying my SG3 five days ago, I was going to continue to use the sim card from my Nokia phone i.e. use my unlimited 2G/EDGE internet connection to use it where there's no wifi, like to browse apps, get enlightened by the xda-development, chat in gtalk and be allways synchronised.
So.
First I requested a configuration message (CM) from my operator and was all happy (after installing the CM) about the connection notification that I can use packet data, so I opened the gtalk app to share my experience with my buddies, but there was not a chance to connect via packet data.
I tried to reinstall the CM, but nothig happened, only where it was working was the browser. In my APN (access point name) settings were wap and mms profiles due to CM install, but no internet, even after installing another CM with given APN and AP usage only.
When my frustration level was high enough, I deleted all the CMs and APs. Than an idea poped in my mind, to manually create a 2G/EDGE AP, filled with the informations about the internet connection given by my provider inside Froyo's wireless settings.
Simple enough?
...well it worked!!!
From that moment i did not encounter any problems with the 2G/EDGE internet connection.
It's like being on wifi, with just the speed of 2G connection. ;-)
Le a kalappal - Thanks to...

Ps. : Very stable.
Edit: here's a very helpful post, where's the global apn settings file which I am using, since it is included in korillos 2.2 Rom.
It includes the internet ( 2G, EDGE, 3G, HDSPA, etc.) and mms settings as well.
Thanks to madhuranand007.

I joined as this is the exact same problem I am having. TMUS, have data plan.
I had a C6 Nokia, and it had quite a few categories to enter info. Like Packet Data. The Apollo doesn't.
Phone is working fine - even have Skype working.
Problem is MMS/photo compression and slideshow. I've got it halfway fixed - I can see the images, but they are smaller than I'd like. There is no darn setting for messaging in the Android. A lot say that you can't use 2G/Edge/Gprs to send mms.
The C6 did it with no problem, I've seen complaints from other phone and carrier users, so I'm suspecting it's Samsung/Android. I have a TTW plan, so the phone should be covered. I use more wifi at home than data, except for the mms. And I don't send many of those.
Thinking of rooting the phone - reading everything and proceeding cautiously.
I would like to get all problems solved before I do anything.
I have internet, but no place to enter wap. They were 2 different settings on the Nokia C6
Thanks,
Zuben
Basically the bottom line is, if you don't get your APN settings automatically find out the name of your mobile service provider and google: X apn settings android
X being your service provider
I did. Trouble is, there were 2 settings in Symbian. One for internet which was epc
and one for data, which was wap.voicestream. That came from the carrier.
I have no place in Android to enter the one for data only. It doesn't give me the choice.
Hello,
I could not find similar issue that I am currently facing so I decided to ask. I am from Europe (concerning my data provider) and I have strange issues with mobile data. I have a plan for mobile data and when I turn on mobile data it successfully displays "H" (hsdpa) - everything is legit in terms of connectivity. But here is the kick - I can easily check my corporate exchange account mail, sync contacts everything... but I can't browse, watch youtube or even access play store. It simply displays connection error. So in edition to my nexus 4 I also have nexus 10 and so I tried hosting hot-spot on my nexus 4 (with mobile data enabled) and connected my nexus 10 - EVERYTHING WORKS. I can browse on my nexus 10, watch HD youtube videos everything...
So somehow I don't seem to believe that this is my providers fault but something not right with nexus 4 settings. I can only gain full access to everything on my nexus 4 when I connect to wi-fi.
Maybe someone has faced this issue ? Please help
You must take a look to your APN settings, I had same problems like that, It happens whe my N4 configure it itself, try to delete it and ask to your provider to send you the APN mensage configuration, or copy the apn setting of another android, some times there are problems with de proxy ip and ports.. but you have a conecction.. but not fully. good look.
Sorry for bad english .. spanish here XD
May be the APN issue. just check which APN is selected & select appropriate APN if required
Thanks a bunch guys. Seems my provider sends faulty APN settings, had to find correct ones in the forum - now everything works! :victory: This thread can be closed
