New batter only charging to 89% - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I installed a new slightly larger capacity battery in my note 4.
Tried 2 different chargers but it only charges to 89%.
The charge then levels off. See file.
Any ideas on how to solve?
Thx
Rob

You need to get the official external battery charger. If you have updated your device to Marshmallow via OTA. As Samsung messed up the battery charge software with the release of the Marshmallow OS update.

SOLVED.
Just to let people know, I attached a quick charger from Samsung (Note 4 does not support quick charging) and it charged to 100% within an hour.

But... Note 4 does support quick charging...
It supports Qualcomm's quick charge and Samsung's fast charge... or from my experience anyway.

Adaptive Fast Charger

Hi guys! I just bought a Note 4 a couple weeks ago and I was wondering if the Adaptive Fast Charger would work on the Note 2014. Haven't tried it yet but I was curious as to whether anyone else has.
Thanks!

It will work, but it won't charge any faster than the original charger.

I own both devices (Note 4 + Note 10.1 2014) and can confirm, that the charger works but not in "fast charge" mode.
Unfortinately the 10.1 charges quite slowly to put it politely. I was hoping that it would at least be slightly faster, although it should be because even on the low power mode, the new base has a slightly higher output.
I also have the Note 4 and Note 10.1 (2014 edition). I can confirm that fast charging doesn't work. Maybe someone knows but I thought an earlier version of Android had the option to turn on fast changing. I assume that it's a function that needs to be implemented at the kernel level.

How could you tell if it in fast charge mode or not?

Well, first of all, it does not charge any faster then normal, at least not significantly enough for me to notice. I have to admit, I did not a test with a stop watch.
The second thing is that when you connect the fast charger to the Note 4, there is a fast charge notification shown in the status bar for a view seconds. This is not the case for the Note 10.1 (2014).
From what I remember with my Asus Transformer Infinity fast charge could be be turned on using Trickster Mod. The kernal has to support it of course.
The Asus units use 15v for charging. If you somehow can trigger this mode on the charger, which someone succeded to with his Iphone, the Note's voltage regulator just will transform 15 instead of 5 volts down to 3.7v, the excess energy will be transforned into heat, and the regulator may fail.
I have a Note 10.1. I just charged it in lightning fast time to full charge. I used it for about 20 minutes. Then the indicator dropped to half and now it indicates dead after a very short period of time. Not sure if the battery is fried or if the software is freaking out. Ive been having charging problems before. Attempting to charge enough to do a factory reset to see if that solves the charging problem. If not - battery replacement.
I never had to cope with a lithium battery, which lost much of its capacity. But with most battery types a huge loss of capacity means that the battery charges from empty to full in no time, and back to zero in no time during use. The voltage range stays normal, thus the battery level should also reach up to 100%, which equals 4,0 to 4,2v in this case.
A battery seemingly no longer reaching full charge is a problem with the Android Coulometer. There are apps which seem to be able to fix this bug.
A similar, more popular Coulometer bug are battery level fluctuations. These aren't that simple to fix, probably only factory reset or the unbricking procedure help. But this bug is self-healing over a LONG time. We're talking bout months.
Thought you might like to know, the original Samsung charger works well, but to achieve maximum results you need to use a 2.5 Amp USB charger. This used to be stated in the Samsung+ app. This almost doubled the speed of charging the tablet. I know that this isn't quick charging, but it's worth knowing.

Zenfone 2 Laser ZE550KL quick charge not working

I tried the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 quick charger on my ZE550KL 2GB ram model. The starting battery percent was 18% and after about half an hour the battery was still at 42%. I read on Qualcomm's website that SD410 supports quick charging 2.0. But the results speak otherwise. Could it be the software restricting quick charge?

I thought that only the SD 615 version of the ZE550KL was quick charge compatible.
The 410 is also quick charge compliant as well. Check this

The processor supports quick charge, but as far as I know, it's not implemented in the phone.
Yes I tried it too recently and the best rate at which phone charging was 1.1A (I used 2.1A charger, it took 3 hrs to charge from 10% to 100%)
Either we should all ask ASUS to enable fast charging in coming updates or wait for someone to build custom kernel that supports fast charging.
if it's any consolation, the moto g3 also doesn't supports quick charging. It also has SD 410. 3 hours is the time is takes for me to charge it to full with the provided OEM charger as well.

I had Moto G 2015 for couple of weeks. Didn't really use wall charger enough, I used USB charging through PC most of the times so can't really say about charging time.
I found some references online they claimed Moto g3 does charge faster, here is one...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/2015-moto-g/help/charge-time-t3171725
As far as the laser is concerned, has anyone raised this issue with them on forums?
can't bear slow charging :crying:
It more than likely has to do with the USB configuration so I doubt any software update will enable that, but to be fair it could be a software based limitation. The USB component needs to allow for the high throughput though.
I personally don't feel too negative about the charge time because I came from an iPhone 5S that doesn't have quickcharging. I am sure for others it is like watching paint dry though.
What I find most disturbing about the phone is that, it came with a 1A charger. You can save some significant charging time if yo use a standard 2A charger.

Have you tested this? Devices will only pull what they are able from a charger so if it was designed to drawl up to 1.35A then even with a 2A charger it will only drawl 1.35A.

I think you are right on this. I just tested and even with a 2A charger it takes more than 3 hours to charge the phone.
Anyone tried using qualcomm 2.0 certified quick chargers?
From this zentalk link, looks like my suspicion was correct. Event though SD 410 supports quickcharge, Asus limited the circuits etc. to not take 2A. Sad!
At least it charges faster on super saving mode.
35% in 60 mins on Normal mode
41% in 60 mins on super saving mode

My ZE601KL comes with a 2A charger in the box. I would say it charges quick when battery is real low and slows down when it close to 80% to complete the rest of the charging cycle.

Quick charge is supposed to charge from 0 to 60% in 30 minutes then slow to normal speed.

Quick charge gone

Last few days I've noticed my 6P is not quick charging. I used to be able to charge from 15% or lower to full in under an hour. Now it takes 2hrs+ to charge from any %. Today it told me it would take 2 hours to charge from 45%! WTF!? I didn't change any settings and have not flashed a new room or anything since I'm stock not rooted. I am on the O preview but I've been on it for months and this just started happening. Any help would be appreciated, tia
I'd probably try unenrolling from the beta and reverting to 7.1.2

Taking a long time to charge and not rapid charging are two different things. Does your display say "Charging rapidly"? I assume you are using the same stock USB-C to USB-C cable and charger that came with the phone. If you install Accubattery you will be able to monitor two important things: 1) charging rate in mA- the charging rate will confirm (or not) you are charging close to 3 Amps when your battery is discharged below 20% . I usually see ~2.7 A, but only when when fully discharged. -and- 2) your estimated battery capacity. In short, when your battery starts to take a dump you will see long charging times and more heat. Charge the phone a few times from fully discharged until the APP tells you the phone is full- not the phone. After fully charging a few times, go to the health page and report your battery's estimated capacity.
Ok thanks. Sometimes I get the charging rapidly message, sometimes it just says charging. Guess I might have to look to upgrade soon. Maybe a Pixel 2 is in my future

This has been discussed, it's not charging any faster than it did in Nougat. All they did was add the text to tell you it was fast charging, which to them means charging above 1A. True fast charging would be 50% in less than 30 minutes, definitely this update is not going to do that, no matter what charger you use.
But after oreo update there is a little improvement in charging speed... I charged my A1 in switched off and phones charged in 1hr 35 min from 0 to 100%...and i used the stock charger...

Doing some very basic math.
3000mAh battery.
Charging rate of 2000mAh
That would equate, if the battery were truly at 0%, and charged truly to 100% full 3000mAh capacity, of 90 minutes, in an ideal world. Of course, there are some things that come into play, such as overhead.
With my USB measuring tool, I am able to see the voltage around 5.10-5.20v, and the amperage around 1.85-1.94A. This is with a Qualcomm QuickCharge 3.0 charger, so I know for certain that it is not doing a higher voltage charge. I can also see that it is not doing a higher amperage charge.
Given this, I will have to see about doing a complete drain on the phone, and then charging, and seeing where 100% is indicated on the phone, in terms of capacity, as my tool can measure the amount sent over USB as well.

Thank you for you reply...:good:
My Asus Zenfone Pro M1 takes almost 4 hours to charge full battery.
I tried all different chargers, Asus original, Xiaomi, also Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 and 3.0
Battery charging from 5-50% takes more than 2 hours ...no matter which charger I use.
Should I go for warranty?

I think you should go for warrenty as the inbox charger or quick charger 2.0 would charge you mobile from 20% to 100% within 2.30 hours at max so if charging time goes higher then this then you should replace the device if its under warranty
i charged my phone from 12% to 100% in 2hrs 40 mins. use inbox charger for charging it is faster then normal other chargers. it also depends if wifi is on or network data is on and if you are using the phone when charging if 4g data is on it will charge slower.

Sometime it does charge fast but most of the times it gets overheated and takes more than 8 hours to charge.
Well, I found out it charges best only with stock Asus charger came with phone in box.
Theoretically all chargers with 5V-2A should charge it same way, but that's not the case here.
Guys, anyone having charging problem taking long time, use only stock Asus charger provided in the box, your problem will be solved.

Only stock charger after minute or two, switches to charging rapidly, All other chargers says only charging.
Yeah it took around 2hrs to charge the phone from 39% to 94% with stock charger and latest firmware(305), also the battery is discharging quite rapidly considering it has 5k mah battery. I think the stock os still needs tons of optimization and many simple features(pip is missing, network speed on status bar, option for auto sync and many more).

My sister just bought this recently and also got an update (I think it's the latest firmware(305), the same firmware that you've mentioned), but I found it pretty peculiar, it's said "charging slow" on the lock screen even after 3-5 minutes when I use the stock charger (5V == 2A). The weirder thing is I used my Lenovo P2 charger which is the same configurations as my sister's charger and I try charging it to the max pro m1 and it did charge faster, it said "charging" on the lock screen. I'm really confused here, is it because the update?. Do I have to wait for another update or is there any other way to fix this?
Got the phone today. It was charging nicely. Then i updated it and charging got crap.Battery started draining.Might help if we can downgrade i guess.
Clear recent apps. Most importantly keep screen off. If needed one reboot and the charging is back to quick charge.....its the background apps and inability of software tweaking / background app control / battery conservation software to change from normal 2 QC. Probably the next update will b better.
I think it might just be the update ?
Huff.... I hope Asus could fix this pretty soon

You have to charge it 2-3 times from 0-10% to 90-98% so that the battery calibrates. I also found it wierd at starting but after doing this my phone charges from around 15% to 98-99% in 2 hours and 20 -2 hours 40 minutes depending on whether I've enabled the data and location. Also the standby drain is too much so I've uninstalled some system apps and use greenify to hibernate other apps, with this now it's 3-5% drain in 9 hours. Now I easily get 8-9 hours of SOT with heavy gaming also.
Heating
Is anyone experiencing heating issues while playing pubg??
