(MODS PLEASE MOVE TO APPROPRIATE FORUM IF NEED BE)
Hey guys, I finally got my Blackstone wednesday and have been messing with it since then. I am currently out of town but when i get back, I plan on opening a T-mobile contract to run the phone on. I chose them, because, A) i can get a good deal on a contract with MYFAVES, INTERNET, HOTSPOTS, and TEXTS, and since i am not a big talker, the MYFAVES would work for me and B) AT&T is just too [email protected] expensive for me. My questions is, for those who are using the HTC TOUCH HD on T-mobile, of course besides the lack of 3G like everyone is stating, how is the internet browser. A friend of mine runs his HD on AT&T, but I cannot afford a big plan, without a MyFaves type option. Post up experiences only if you are running the HD on T-Mobile. Thanks
I'm currently using the HD on T-Mobile. I like it. No US 3G means doesn't matter if its AT&T or T-Mobile, you can't get 3G for either. I running off of T-Zones and the speeds are barable. I don't do heavy surfing when I'm outside of WiFi but I do push my e-mails and occasionally check up on my bookmarks. So far, so good.
Oh and before you sign up, check up www.freelancersunion.org .... if your a member you get a 10% everyone and nice perks on phones... like oh lets say 140 for G1 or free blackberrys... Good luck!
Just remember your already going to be stuck on edge.. And T-Mobiles edge speeds are much slower than AT&T's.
Thanks alot guys for the input. I really do not do much video streaming but do use the internet for email and occasionally checking and replying to forums. If i get the T-ZONES which would allow me to use WIFI im sure i can catch a signal somewhere. I just want to keep this bumped for more input
I generally get speeds of around 150Kb with EDGE and browsing works fine. Streaming YouTube automatically adjusts the image size depending on the bandwidth. I get full screen with WiFi and about 1/2 with EDGE. I occasionally get an "insufficent bandwidth" message on EDGE, but that's rare. It would be nice to have 3G, but T-Mobile is really taking their time putting out a decent PPC phone and 3G is only in some large cities so far. By the time they put out a device like the Touch HD and install 3G in my city, maybe I'll buy another phone, but for now I'm really happy with it.
I have been using mine onf T-Mobile for a while now. No complaints what so ever. Once you choose Touch HD to use in the US. You have lost the option of 3G anywayz. So why think of ATT and its huge pice plans. I am not entirely sure about ATT EDGE being faster than T-Mobile. But I am pretty happy with my EDGE speeds on T-Mo. Browsing is fast enough, I can even watch YouTube vdos through edge.
You always have WiFi which is much faster than 3G. I am using mine with Cooked ROMs from here and I am enjoyin every bit of it with no regret.
for the ones that got TMobile and the HD. what internet plan do you have?
what are the settings on the phone?
are your guys MMS fast?
i dont get mine for a couple days.. but maybe cuz i haven't set up any internet connection?
when you called tmobile did you just ask for tzones?
thanks for the help..

Well, as far as the settings go, I just stuck my T-Mobile Sim and it automatically detected it and configured everything including MMS
The speeds arent that bad, you have to remember that most people view only a dozen or so sites regularly that's the whole idea behind cashing pages.
But even besides that the speeds are not that bad. Opera is really good at rendering pages. I thought I would not be able to deal with it coming off the G1 but I barely notice to be hones with you.
I can do a screenie of my t-mobile setting for my g1 there were a bunch of Access points that I didn't know exsisted. there are like a dozen or so, you can try to configure those manually to see if you can purge faster speeds and report back.
I don't have it with me right now, but if yo PM me I'd be more than happy to do so
I hope this helps.
Peace!
your settings should automatically be detected but the default address is usually wap.voicestream.xxxx . all I did was let it auto detect and change both tmobile data and tmobile mms to epc.tmobile.com I heard the epc is faster than the wap. try that.
No problems in the USA
I have been with TMo in the USA for 4 years and have nothing but good things to say. Great coverage (I am an airline pilot and the means a lot!) and great plans. My previous phone was the JasJar (HTC Universal) and it was stuck with GPRS only so Edge has been a nice, surprising speed boost that is very acceptable for browsing, Google Maps etc. While it is true that Edge won't let me stream the max quality videos from YouTube, I don't think I am missing much by not having 3G. Using my WiFi connection at home is only a substantial benefit when I want to download a large file, which I almost never do.
The HD and Tmo have a great working realationship.
Regards,
Gordo
i mean.. what are the tzone settings.. and i ask for tzone.. pay 5.99 or whatever.. and i can do youtube? opera? weather? and everything?
is that possible?
how?

I'm looking for this as well. I have a download that I used for my Kaiser. Is this the same one?
i dont know.. this is my 1st WinMo phone.. no one gives an exact answer =/.. does anyone know?
I'm finding T-mo with their data plan (2G) quite bearable: I don't even try streaming media, it would be pure frustration, but is fine with wifi (faster than 3G anyway).
Search/Google "T-mobile T-zones youtube and internet access". You'll find the default settings will allow you to access only T-mo's T-zones content. There have been some port configuration hacks posted over the last couple of years, but T-mo may have plugged those up by now.
I look at it this way.... I just spent, what $750 on a phone, another $19.00 for the data plan isn't going to make a damned bit of difference. If you got yours cheaper, consider the difference as free data for a while.

I have been using TMobile for years without any problems and if you have problems they have great Tech support. BTW ' epc ' did not work on my HD
for a data connection.
Awesome thanks guys for your replies. I order my phone and plan for T-mobile today thru Telesales with a major discount i got. Will have it overnighted to me and should hopefully have my phone and plan by tuesday.....so that means that the BLACKSTONE should be running then....majorly excited!!!!
My Nexus One is being delivered tomorrow and I have a sim only contract with t-mobile to use with it.
Anyone know what settings (apn etc) are needed to make calls/texts/mms and internet, please?
Any help appreciated. Thanks.

Itll do it all automatically mine did been running sweet for a 2 months
Just out of curiosity what settings do people have under apn?
Using the speed test app, I can only get 300kbps down and 500 up for some reason.
Cheers,
Neil.
Yeah, did it automatically in the end, apart from mms. Sending an mms to myself fixed that.
Not tested my speeds yet as I mainly only browse using wifi.
I am getting 2M+ downlink and 1.7M+ uplink. I have web n walk plus (or what used to be) and I understand you will need that to have HSDPA speeds.
Any chance you could post your apn settings as I have the web and walk add on and don't get anywhere near those speeds in two different parts of the country.
Neil.
Im on 3 and mine didnt set up automatically, but after using CMs ROM it came on auto after that
I'm in a pretty good area for 4G, so I've been turning it on when I leave the house lately...but recently, I've noticed something odd. While I get pretty good download speeds on speedtest.net, and it downloads files very well, when I go to a website, it won't load the page. The status indicator will go halfway, 3/4 of the way, but then it will hang, and the page will never load. I tested this in an area, last night, where I was getting 8+ Mbps (New Brunswick, NJ), in both Dolphin, and the stock browser, same effect in both. Then I turned off 4G, and the same sites (I tested about 6-7) loaded just fine in 3G. Anyone else notice this fairly annoying quirk?
I'm in Brooklyn and I've experienced the same thing a couple of times. I chalked it up to the 4g roll-out testing in the area.
If it flips to 3G and back to 4G even for a second it can jack up a page. Does reloading help?
When I had my EVO I also found that when I had 4G enabled the GTalk service would only very sporadically make AND hold a connection.
Turn off 4G and reboot the phone and I was able to connect no problem.
I called Sprint a few times on it but the people I spoke with in advanced support didn't have a clue to rather than hope for a fix I decided to return the phone and wait to see how the official rollout went.

No, this isn't a case where it's switching from 4G to anything else. It's only when it's loading a website in a 4G area, with 4G on - and it actually seems to get worse as the 4G signal gets stronger. In my case, it's very repeatable.
I'm going to try deleting the cache, and see if that helps...
It's really not that big a deal, as it downloads any other file type, and does it very well, when in a 4G area, and websites load fine via 3G. It's just a little odd.
Oh, I guess it would be a problem if I wanted to view a website while talking on the phone...

Yeah, I've noticed the same issue. There is no performance gain on loading webpages it seems. I don't really get a chance to tether my pc often on 4G (other than letting files download in the car), so I can't vouch for that, but I do get better web page performance on 3G.
Anybody have any more insight into this issue? In the past I was able to access any site using 4g just fine, but lately, any site that uses flash will load 4/5 of the way and then completely stop. I am not a smart guy and have exhausted basically all of the resources I have. I have tried flashing an older Wimax, tweaking Wimax settings, uninstalling flash updates and nothing has worked. I guess if it really starts to bother me I will give Sprint a call, although it seems like people over here at XDA know just as much if not more about these things...and you guys wont make me unroot to talk about them.
Thanks.
I experienced same thing. I'm guessing it's the network issue(it's just not dependable in my experience), and not even use it for websurfing anymore. I think 3g is plenty for websurfing, and use 4g for tethering.
Go into wireless & Networks and turn off Mobile Network that will turn off 3g completely just use 4g by itself and you wont have to worry about it switching between the 2
Well, for me at least, the situation seems to have resolved itself...the past couple of days, I've been able to go to websites on 4g with no issues whatsoever. And as a bonus, the 4G coverage around my apt (which isn't even an official 4G area yet) is up to about 8Mbps! Nice.
My phone was doing that the other day too, I dont live in a 4g area. It was also going on being connected to wifi. My browser screen was also going black but the phone wasn't sleeping, I flashed another ROM and it was doing the same thing. It hasn't done it over the past few days now. I guess it worked itself out.
Hey everybody, I'm new here, Evo shift user just recently flashed to boost. I find this forum very useful but i have doubts...
I find 3G speeds are very slow
I tried messing around in the settings like changing http dp settings to 0, but havent found much improvement. I also found many settings mention sprintpcs. I know boost runs with sprint, but I was curious as if all settings should be linked to sprint after the boost flash...
So my real question is, Can anybody provide me with information and detail on settingd in their flashed-to-boost evo shift, or android?? excluding of course any compromising codes, but mostly the ## settings in general???
Any help will be much appreciated.
nobody here can help me out?? =/
U might wanna ask someone on boost for their epst settings. Maybe find a thread of a phone only on boost mobile? I'm not really sure but that's all I got

well the setting should be the same +/- but cant be 100% sure but tell me how you flashed it clean esn or a different way "not talked about here " and did you do it your self ??
as far as slow 3g speeds youll find its the sprint network as boost uses the same network and dont see a fix insight a lot of of people are having the same problems

Thx guys, I installed Cyanogenmod 7 speedy, only to find GPS not working at all... and cant seem to go in ## settings on this rom either.. Only if I do a recovery on my stock OS can I edit. And it was the 'forbidden way' I flashed it although IMO legit since the equipment used is all mine.
How would I go to updating PRL through CDMAW??? Also, anybody on the boost network can post their data settings here? Excluding of course the username and shared keys???
Thanks to all who's replied by the way

My service provider isnt as slow as 500kb/s but thats all i can really get. This isnt the first OnePlus phone that has been slow on mobile data. Ive tried 3 different ones to try and get better speeds but downloading always takes forever.
Is there a fix for this problem because i see folks posting how this thing gets fast speeds on certain carriers even my own. Id like to cash in on that as well. Im in a prime area and my plan never goes over my data cap because i hardly get the speeds to do it.
Can someone shed some light on this?
Try creating your own APN. Look up some options for your carrier. I'm in the USA and on T-Mobile. When I first got the OP5 I was getting like 1-5mbps at my house when my Nexus 6P was getting 30mbps or more with the same sim card. So I started playing around with different APN's and I was fine. Once on 4.5.8 I think the regular APN was working fine. But whoever you carrier is, maybe tweaking the APN is your answer.

Thanks for the suggestion, unknowing to me my phone already had 3 different default apns to select for my carrier. Only time can tell because I never know what exactly it will do at different times or how it will behave so I guess I'll keep on keeping on until maybe something breaks or it just straight up works. thanks for the suggestion.

Depending on the rom you have it could be a few things.
OOS Rom's should just be a case of creating the correct APN for your carrier.
For example EE UK, all that's needed is NAME: Internet APN: everywhere
Menu / Save / Activate
From that point it's all ready to roll.
There are some other options on other Rom's like AOSP and LOS
For example VOLTE, NV and RUSIM, Preferred Network Mode.
So long as this is all set up correctly it should be fine.
Also try the different SIM slot and make sure to remove the not used APN's
Download Ookla's Speedtest app and test your changes.
Another thing could be that you've chosen a network manually, I always set this to automatic.
PS: Further to these points i've noticed that compared to my HTC 10, the Oneplus is nowhere near as quick in terms of connectivity, same SIM, EE UK, max i had at home on 4G+ was 157Mb where as on My Oneplus it's around 50Mb at best, which is a 3rd of the speed, bit of a drop.
I have a thread open for this in the Q+A, I'm querying Baseband, Firmware, Kernel, i think it may have something to do with it.
If you're stock then this is not something you have to worry about.
????? Anyone ????
