So, I use stock ROM, and i got problem, when I connect to BT and wifi at the same time and using them, wifi speed drops from 30MB/s to like 0.2 KB/s (same as not working at all). Using Custom ROM there is no such problem! Is there anything to do with it?

I'm having a tether problem that I'm hoping somebody can help me with. Getting the actual tethering to work is no problem, I've been able to tether via DUN, Bluetooth, PDANet and also with Internet Sharing on the new ROM.
The problem I have is with speed. I'm in an HSDPA area and am getting HSDPA data (this is definate). Tethering using any of the above methods to my XP Pro PC with a USB cable (USB 2.0 ports) gives me a peak speed of roughly 600kbps - like clockwork (Bluetooth, of course, is slower.) For the longest time I believe the problem was something with the phone but then when I connected my phone to another PC I got the speed I expected (1 - 1.1 Mbps) consistently. That guys phone also get similar speeds on his PC. Connect his phone to my PC and the speeds go to 600 kbps.
I've updated every driver and piece of software that I can think of but I can not get the problem fixed. I'm pulling out my hair (and don't have alot to spare anymore.)
Any ideas???
Bob
Anybody have any ideas? This is driving me nuts. I hate to have to go get an aircard when I know that this can work.
On a side note, I borrowed an AirCard and got as high as 1800 on the download (3 blocks from the tower . . . ) which was cool.
Thanks!
Fixed - needed to increase the RWIN value (per dslreports.com). See http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1116230
Thanks,
Unbelievable! works like a charm!
Hi there, I got a Magic (32A) with FroyoRedux, SPL 1.33.0010 and Radio 3.22.20.17. Everything works perfect, except for one thing: the WiFi speed. At july, I was visiting my parents in other city, I also updated my ROM while I was there. At my parents' house, with WiFi connected to a 8mbps internet connection, I got full speed (tested using speedtest.net app). About 3 or 4 weeks ago, when I got home, also via speedtest.net app, I got a fair speed (3mbps) via WiFi. I have 15mbps at home, but I though it was OK, since its fast enough for most applications I use. But, since then, my WiFi speed is limited to a extremely slow rate, always slower than my 3G speed. I have 600kbps at 3G, and I get, in the best results, 500kbps via WiFi (most of the times, it gets between 100 and 200kbps), even without any other device connected to my router. I tried using static IP, no success (actually, I was unable to connect while using static IP, even with all the settings done correctly). Using an app called WiFi analyzer, I can see that no network next to my house is using the same channel as my router does, so channel interference is also not the problem. I know a setting in HTC WinMo devices which let the user to choose between better wifi performance or better battery life, but I was unable to find such settings in Android.
So, I'd like to know if it is a known issue, or if someone out there has the same problems as me. I've seen many Droid and Hero owners having similar issues, but nobody with a Magic.
And sorry for any typos I may have commited, my english is not that good, I'm brazilian
Hi, I was wondering if anyone is using wifi tethering on 4g?
I tethered my computer to the wifi tether 2.0.7 and the speeds are very slow, like 0.41mbps, just the same as 3g, but if i use the speedtest app on my phone it shows that i have a 3mbps down and 1mb up.
Anyone having the same issue? or is it the 2.xx wifi tether versions dont work with 4g but the 3.xx ones does? I've tried 3.xx versions but it reboots my phone every time, I am on Midnight ROM 5.1. thanks!
i'm having the same problem.
i'm about to try http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=925898 this to see if it fixes it.
Hello,
I have the last stock ROM (2.3.6) on S+ [9001] (I forget it on the title) and I have wifi drops every 5-10 minutes in my university whit EDUROAM wifi conection.
Later, I have to disconnect/connect the wifi to reconnect because it doesn't reconnect automatically.
Some solution?
I'm only using eurodam networks with my gt-9000 perhaps their are no differences, but anyways here my thoughts:
Are you shure that not the wifi signal is the Problem?
For example to many clients on the same AP ot in general a weak signal
Furthermore only your smartphone is using your eurodam account, no other devices?
Do you use any custom kernel?
Hmm thats it, for the moment ^^
Wifi drops ia a problem but custom roms like broodrom and moonrom have wifi fixes. If you have not flashed a custom rom before i recomend moonrom as it is easy to install.

I've got to use eduroam too. If I remember correctly I didn't experience any drops (on stock rom). Currently i'm on broodrom rc5 and I get drops aproximately every 30 min. When i'm not on eduroam I don't get any drops.
5-10 min sounds very fast.
I'd recommend a custom rom also. But since I face the same probs on custom rom, don't be surprised if the problem consists.

hi,
I recently bought a nexus 4, when I first used it with stock rom, everything was fine with the wifi speed i was getting from my internet connection (about 35 Mbps). So i tried out a few custom roms until i noticed an issue with the wifi speed , suddenly i wasn't getting more than 0,8 Mbps on the same connection, I thought it was an issue with the rom so I wiped and formated everything on my phone and used the nexus tool kit to flash a factory image.
Still the same problem, I again tried wiping and re flashing, but it does not change anything.
Does anyone have an idea what the issue could be ?

Your issue sounds similar to what happened to me. One day without any other changes my wifi speed tanked and the connection was iffy despite having strong signal and a clear wifi channel. In my case I fixed the problem by switching the router security from wpa to wpa2. I have no idea why that would help, but help it did. Maybe there is an obscure corner case radio bug. Maybe this will give you some ideas to try. My router is an old WRT-54G. Good luck.

I am already connected through wpa2, so it can't be that.
I heard wifi connectivity is controlled in the kernel, so I tried a few different ones, on all of them the same problem, the strange thing is Im always getting near exact 0,8 mbps,
ok now I switched off wifi optimisation (which cant be the reason because it was switched on all the time and it was working until recently) and the speed was normal again, switched it on again, still the speed is what it should be. Strange problem but I guess it is solved.
