I know it's been 1.5 years since the phone is out but since it's cheap (235$), I am considering to buy it (A2017G model).
1. Can I root this phone in stock rom, or do I need to go with a custom rom?
2. Is the stock rom good? ... and will there be new custom roms?
3. Is it worth buying this or should I wait and buy a new phone? (My budget is low so a new phone means mid-low range for me like redmi note 5 which will come in a few months.)
Thanks in advance. :good:

I asked about rooting because I have seen that I can't use twrp or unlock bootloader before downgrading to marshmallow in a thread here, so I was just wondering about the latest update is possible to use with twrp and root.
Thanks for the answers btw.

1) You can root this phone without any problem.
2) The stock rom is decent, if you have apps that need a clean rom from no root and tampering, I suggest you stick with stock, it does everything alright.
3) It is totally worth to buy the phone, the price you mentioned is decent for a new one. There is basically no other phone within that range that has an excellent camera, stereo front facing speakers, fast fingerprint sensor, 2k amoled screen(same panel as in the google pixel 1 XL), 4gb of ram, 64gb storage WITH the ability to add a SD-card for additional storage. Lastly it comes with a SD820 which is a beast regardless and very power efficient(if you don't mind no gaming to light gaming).
I bought mine 2nd hand for 140€ a best buy for me coming from a xperia m4 aqua.

I've been having some issues with my Note 3. My current ROM is no longer supported (CleanROM), and in fact, the dev retired from android altogether.
I looked around at some of the threads for a new ROM, and they all seem to be filled with dead links.
So I'm thinking it's time to move on to a new phone. I've heard that the current lineup from Samsung has issues, so I'm kinda curious what everybody else is going to or what you recommend.
Plenty of live roms on here .
Staying with Note 3 me .

Actually newer Samsung phones almost don't need rooting and flashing to be usable.
And the Note 6 (latest rumors claim it's gonna be called Note 7) is going to be a massive powerhouse, you could wait for it to come out in August.
In the meantime the OnePlus 3 is going to come out.
Huawei P9 Plus is also good, from what I've read.
Pick one.

I have discovered Meizu and it's the best Android constructor.
I have the PRO 5 (409euros = 420$) and it's the best smartphone of 2015 ! Better flagship for that price !
-> 4GB DDR4 RAM, 64GB ROM, similar specs as the S6 Edge, but more powerful
+ 200GB ext-sdcard Lexar 633x (115euros = 125$)
And the best of this phone is its alone button to do "back" and "home", his OS FlyMe, like Touchwiz, based on Android, but with Apple inspiration for good ideas...
And that phone has an incredible good audio render ! With a DAC (digital to analog converter) integrated.

This thing was the best phone of 2015, I agree here.
But we gotta look forward.
I myself still haven't found something truly powerful enough to justify an upgrade from my Note 3, but this Autumn there will be some heavy hitters that might make me consider it. Note 6 (or 7, whatever they gonna call it), the new Nexus phones...
Hi i'm thinking of getting the Verizon S8 during the black friday sale, my question is:
1. From people who own it is it generally a good phone and are y'all happy with it?
2. I saw the thread about rooting the US. Snapdragon version i'd like to know if there's anything different/would stop me from rooting since ill be getting it on Verizon? PS. ill be activating it on Verizon but buying it at BestBuy in case that makes a difference.
Thanks for your help

Personally knowing what I know now I'd be looking at a different phone. These things are carrier owned locked bootloader with no unlock on the horizon. The root method sucks with it being so long and complicated, reminds of the Sony Xperia days. Plus you lose 20% battery and there's no fix because locked bootloader. The list can go on but why bother I think you'll get the point. Have fun
I would suggest you OnePlus 5T if you want root, custom roms ecc. But if you want a freaking georgous screen that stretches at it's maximum, a great camera, and overall great build and design I would suggest S8. I have not rooted it yet, and personally I don't find the need to do it. Regarding the looks I can change through substratum or through custom themes(which just install as a normal apk but change even the notification bar). As far as speed goes it is pretty good, been using it for 5months and never noticed a big lag that bothered me.

It is a great phone, with an amazing screen, it´s super fast, has good batterylife and a great camera. All of it even with a stock Samsung ROM.
That said, if you are used to rooting your phones and installing different Custom ROMs and Mods, maybe the US S8 isn´t right for you. It´s a real hassle to root and it can only be charged to 80% after root. The ROM and Mod development is very slowly picking up with Flashfire, although I´m confident we will see some more ROMs in the future, since the installbase is quite big.
So, the Phone is great on it´s own, but I personally wouldn´t buy the US Version, if I would want to use Custom ROMs or Mods.
As everybody said its a great phone as it is . No need for root and custom roms . But if you are really into these things then don't buy it from any carrier .
Hi guys,
I'm currently using an iPhone and an iPad as my main phone and tablet but I still want access to Android. I enjoy trying customs ROMS and rooting and all of that stuff that ANDROID allows you to do and so I'm looking for an affordable device - nothing fancy - that will allow me to explore Android. Someone suggested that I get the Moto G5 Plus as it's affordable and a capable device.
I'd be getting the 32 gb international version. My questions are:
1) Is this the best/most affordable device to experience android on?
2) Can it be easily rooted?
3) Can I use custom ROMS?
This is the version that I'm considering buying:
https://www.amazon.ca/gp/aw/d/B01N5...dpPl=1&dpID=51riiKk3VNL&ref=plSrch&th=1&psc=1
I also recently got an Amazon Fire HD 10 hoping to install custom ROMS on there, but as of right now, that's not possible.

OP probably means they've had Android phones in the past and enjoyed rooting/custom ROMs/etc with them.
Best Cheap Android Phones of 2017 [Android Central]
They just rated Moto G5 Plus as best overall and I've seen several other articles also listing it at the top or very highly.
OP's linked 'standard/no-ads' model technically meets all three criteria, but I can't say if 2 GB RAM takes adequate advantage of all it offers. My 4 GB XT1687 model runs the latest Android 8.0/8.1 64-bit ROMs with very good performance & battery life, plus they provide the latest security patches while Stock is still at Android 7.0 with several month old security patches.

After doing some research, I've narrowed my choice down to these two phones:
Moto G5 Plus 64GB and 4GB RAM
https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B01MU7MK6E/ref=twister_B01NCYZTP4
And
Moto G5S Plus 32 GB and 3 GB RAM.
https://www.amazon.ca/Motorola-Gena...&qid=1514406800&sr=8-1&keywords=Moto+g5s+plus
Which is the better buy?
4gb with 64gb, pretty future proof, and G5plus camera constantly reviewed as better overall than the newer S version.
Mind you if you do not care about camera, then S case + sceensize are better

I ordered the Moto G5S Plus 32 GB with 3 GB of RAM. I can't wait to root and try out some ROMS!
So my LG is dead, and I came across this phone.
What attracted me was the looks of it, it really looks nice! (and then it had some nice specs as well )
*But, it only has 3000 mAh battery, so I wonder how this phone does on a daily usage? I came from an LG G2 D802 with 3000 mAH as well, but smaller screen. So what do you think about the battery life, and if you have any other device to compare it with ?
I am planning to buy it on Aliexpress, but before I buy, I want to know if this phone has - like many other devices a "Chinese" version that the sellers on Aliexpress flash ROM on before shipping? Or this device has actually only 1 model? I also saw that Asus has an official store on Aliexpress so I am less worried, but still
Thanks!

Hi verynoob,
ZenFone 3's CPU is Snapdragon 625 (14nm FinFET) which has good battery life & good performance thanks to Adreno 506 GPU. Well ZenFone 3 has 2 versions (ZE520KL & ZE552KL). Both has same CPU but the difference is the RAM and storage. I have listed the specifications below:
ZE520KL: 3GB RAM + 32GB ROM, 5.2 inch Full HD screen with 2650mAh battery capacity
ZE552KL: 4GB RAM + 64 GB ROM, 5.5 inch Full HD screen with 3000mAh battery capacity
*Note: Different market/region, different RAM/ROM configurations & different LTE speeds & bands
If you buy ZenFone 3 from China/Taiwan/Japan, most probably the seller will change SKU to WW (which means no OTA upgrades and you can only update your device manually)
And ASUS just released Android Oreo for our device
Hope this helps
Thank you, I see you also have the same name as the phone haha, nice
So There is no way to make it OTA update, by flashing an official ROM somehow? Or that's not possible, and it's hardware thing

Haha. Usually, ZenFone 3 that comes from China will use CN SKU and Japan will use JP SKU. On the other hand, the serial number is attached with the SKU. Once the seller changed to WW SKU, ASUS can't provide you updates. So, manual update is only way to upgrade firmware.

Thank you, it does seem worth to buy, that's why I'm so skeptic before buying it, because from some reason I never heard of it before, until I accidentally encountered it on Aliexpress. And I dont know anyone who do know about it
It seem too good, even has USB-C, Gorlla glass, it's IPS+, and a great camera, and it's not too expensive. (Although 3000mAH isn't the best comparing to Xiaomi Redmi Note 4).
It has to have some flaws! Come on guys
So, would it make sense to buy it right now? Here in Italy I could get the ZE520KL from amazon at 220€ ( 273$ )

One thing you should take a look into, if you're planning to use Custom ROMs on this phone you will be disappointed, since not many ROMs available for this phone and not so many devs are working on it either (no offcial ROMs for it if I'm not mistaken).

The better version (5.5 inch with 3000 mAH is on 250-260$) right now on Aliexpress if you wish
And for that little price difference, perhaps you should consider the Samsung Galaxy A5 2017, which some of my friends have, and it looks great, great screen, great battery life. I had a Full HD Lg G2 on a 5.2 inch display, And the A5 is also FHD on a 5.2 display, yet it looks better in my opinion, and battery life is better. I dont know how Samsung does it, much better battery life with the same capacity

Hey guys!
I recently bought the S10+ been wondering why there are only 2 custom Roms available.
Normally you have thousands and more after a few month and you can't even decide which one to take.
Greez, skrippi
It's a fairly new device lol
Ok. I normally had the feeling that on other devices it went much faster. But ok THank you!
Compared to OnePlus devices for instance it is true, development starts as soon OnePlus releases a device ( OP7pro for example).

Because the roms do mostly have much more features and give you more control over your phone.
Besides my roms used in past have always had a better battery life than the original firmware.
