Cloning sim Card???? - Hardware Hacking General

Is cloning a sim card reliable. Simply i have 2 phones. One wich a love better for school use and the other wich i hate but is more robust for work. Im growing tired of switching sim cards. Would buying thos cheap sim card cloner on ebay work well with a blank sim card? Anyone have experience with those.
My phone is linked to telus in canada.
I know i wont be able to used both devices at the same time and thats not my point. They will never be on at the same time. Id like it to be as simple as turning one off and the other on.
Thanks in advance guys and gals

Just go to your carrier and request a new sim, most of the times they just dont disable the last one.
You can check on ebay or amazon for any sim clone hardware

Thanks for the info. Went and they said cant be done. ill look for cloning hardware and give that a try

Don't ever tell them you want to use the two sim cards =)))
Go and tell them you were playing with your phone and broke the SIM card that you need a new one.
They will tell you that they will lock the old one (but they really almost never but EVER do it)
Just try it, at worst you will have the new sim and the old one locked
I repeat, dont tell them you want to use both SIM cards.
BTW let us know when you have the hardware and how it works, and let us know how it goes (with purchase link )

If cloning doesn't work, you can use call forwarding. There is a setting only for "When unreachable", meaning when phone is off. So all calls will be forwarded to your other (work) phone when the other one is off. One con is the you need two sim cards.

You can't get a second SIM from the carrier for the same number. They associate the IMSI to your account and you'd have to have a second line for a second SIM.
Cloning will work as long as you can get good software out of China that will clone a SIM properly. A lot of the cloning software from Amazon or Ali or wherever is old junk that worked on old SIM's and through Windows XP or earlier. A lot of them won't properly clone a modern Canadian SIM.

Can I use an actual T-Mobile Sim on Straight Talk?

Please forgive the dumb question but I haven't had a phone with a Sim in years.
After botching a cut job with the straight talk sim to get it to fit, I went and got a micro sim straight from a tmo store.
**Can I call ST and have them activate this Sim on the ST network? Or is there actually something special about the ST Sim?**
I already have all the APN info for ST on the phone since the botched card still kinda functions. The tmo Sim is not linked to any account; They just pulled it out of a drawer and sold it to me.
No, need a ST SIM.

Damn. OK, thanks!
Can you explain why not? What makes the difference between a Tmobile compatible ST sim and an actual Tmobile sim that can't be overcome with software mods?
Well for one, no one mods the way a sim interacts with the phone.. Also Straight Talk sims supposedly get lower tower priority.

Hmm. Fair enough.
As for the software mods, I guess I was referring more to setting up the access point info. Clearly I don't have much background with sim stuff, so I appreciate the info.
Nah, you can't mod the SIMs or anything. That's outside the scope of most people's technical ability.

Just order a new one, use coupon code SIMSAVE and get the SIM card for free with a month of service purchased.
Might also want to get a microSIM cutter on Amazon it's like 3.90 with PRIME shipping.

That's the boat I'm in. One of each is on order and will be here next week.
I was just hoping I could use the Tmo one and not worry about it (and not have wasted the cash).
Thanks again for humoring me guys!

One main reason you can not use anything other than an actual ST SIM, is that your account is based on it's serial number.
Normally ST accounts are based on the serial number of the ST Phone, but since this is BYOD, they use the SIM instead.
You can try to open a ticket on ST facebook and convince the reps your SIM is faulty so they send you a replacement. Else you're gonna have to buy another one.
Hope that helps,

No Sim Card !!!!

Hello everyone
I bought a Nexus 4 ( I wish I didn't !) . Actually I bought it and they sent me from a far away city ! I guess you don't know my country but I live in Tehran and the seller lives 1200 km away ! Anyway ! I unpacked it and start it without sim card ( I should convert it to micro sim) . it was working just fine ! I connected it to my modem using wi-fi and browsed pages ! buttttttttttttttttttt !
after converting sim card and putting it in the sim tray ! It said : NO SIM CARD ! I changed it with my friends' sim cards and it didn't work ! their sim cards work in their cell phone anyway !
So :
1.I have a Nexus 4 which doesn't read or work with my sim cards !
2.when I search for networks , it finds operators but when I select my operator , after a while it says : Your sim card couldn't make a connection to your .... !
3.and when I lock screen and push power to unlock it , it says : NO sim card , Emergency calls only !
SOOOOOOOOOOO , some question :
1.is my Nexus 4 lock factory ? How to find it ? Is there a way to check it like IPHONE or any other ways ?
2. what does "Regulatory Information" in setting > about phone > means ? I 'am not sure my Xperia Arc which I used to work with , had this option or not ? What's this ?
3. Tell me a way to do something ! Unfortunately Google doesn't support our region ! I should do something or find a way to give it back to the seller (He will decline )
Get your money back ASAP! Sounds like it is blacklisted to me.

I think there is a problem with the sim tray. Make sure that the Sim is fitting properly. If it is then find the seller ASAP
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
First, stop with the exclamation points.
My friend cut down his sim to a micro sim and it didn't work. He paid $20 to get a microsim from the store and it worked. If the seller got it from Google Play then it should be unlocked.
It's not factory SIM-locked, no. The problem seems to be that you are using a cut-down SIM, is that right? The N4 seems to be very sensitive to having the SIM cut correctly, and a lot of people have had the same problem as you. If it isn't cut exactly right then it doesn't work.
Can you get a proper micro-SIM?
Sent from my Nexus 4
Try getting proper micro-SIM and not cut one, and in addition contact the seller for further information

Other people have had exactly the same experience though. It seems that the N4 is more sensitive than other phones to having it cut *exactly* right.
I am not saying that the SIM has been destroyed in cutting it down, just that the N4 doesn't like it.

The problem is exist Still ! My operator haven't released Micro Sim yet !
OLD technology !!!! There are two other operator in Iran but I'm not going to change my operator because it's not common here and my first priority is the one which has old technology ! I might give it back to the seller (Let's hope he wont refuse !)
IS there anybody who had involved with this kind of problem ? I mean , how many percent do you guess it's caused by android (Software) ????
When I first got my sim card in it didn't work either then I figured out you have to actually and a little bit extra pressure to the trey before it reads the sim

I did it ! Still out of service ! It's sent back to the seller ! He said he's going to check it and send it for LG agents ! They will send me back another one if the problem wouldn't solve
Any other ideas !??
What do you think ? I've read several posts about Sim issue ! I guess many people have faced this problem ! Actually it seems to be caused by Cutting method ! Nexus 4 wont work if you would place punched Sims into it ! I mean , we should try a standard Micro Sim ! NO CUTTING !

Dude, there is a punctuation called FULL STOP (F.S) and this is how you write it.
PLEASE, for the love of GOD, stop writing so many exclamation marks. You are using it in place of F.S. This confuses with the letter " I " you write.
Coming to the problem, this is one of the issue N4 has and with more production we are seeing really new issues. I don't know what the heck is LG doing. And it becomes even more frustrating when you don't live in a country where Google is supported. That's sad.
It does work if you cut the SIM just right.
My N4 is using a SIM that I cut down myself with a SIM cutter tool. I am not saying that any old SIM cutter will definitely work, just that it can work if you are very careful to cut it accurately.

We've already been through this. I know your SIM isn't damaged. It doesn't matter, it still won't work in your N4 if it doesn't line up exactly right when it is in the SIM tray. Lots of people have had the same problem.
It needs to be undamaged *and* cut perfectly or it won't work in an N4, even though it might work fine in other phones.

Everything will be clearly solved after checking Nexus using standard micro sim . I'll reply result
I have no way of knowing if this is your situation, but I have read some threads where some carrier's regular sim cards are slightly thinner than the micro sim cards and placing a couple of layers of scotch tape on the backside of the sim card helps with certain devices. I know this has helped me in cases where the sim slot had gone bad, typically from the device being dropped.
My sim worked perfectly and I cut it down, and it worked from the first time

Nexus 5X & Sprint

I'm making this thread mainly to help others get up and running on Sprint. I suppose this can be the general Sprint N5X thread too.
In order to get service, we need to use a certain sim card. At least here in Houston, no stores actually carry the sim. Best Buy allegedly has the sim, but they're charging out the ass for it.
To order the sim, head to the international service chat. Inform them you need to order a sim for the Nexus 5X. Provide this ID number for the sim card: 019962040146. They'll ship it to you at no charge, and shipping is roughly 3 business days.
Feel free to post your own experiences with this whole process in this thread.
I simply went to a Sprint store with a repair on site and said I needed a SIM card for my Nexus 5X. The guy was aware of it and even showed me how they looked up the make and model for a phone and boom, the nano SIM type appeared. From the time he called me over to help to completion was maybe 15-20 minutes.

You are VERY correct! Sprint is stupid when it comes to SIM cards....they need to be programmed specifically for the model phone you have and do not have any generic SIM cards. I needed one for a used M9 I purchased and no store had one...had to order from customer service...the M8 SIM card will not work. So until Sprint gets up to speed with the rest of the world you have the best procedure right here.

Yes, you need to be extremely clear with the order representative. They sent me a full size SIM for my HTC M9...smh! You should do it through chat on their site and be specific about the make and model of the phone, then have them confirm it before closing out the chat. They need to select the correct box for the model when ordering. For some godforsaken reason Sprint has many different SIMs specific to phone models. Hopefully they will make it to the 21st century one day :silly:
I actually had a relatively minor experience when I dealt with Sprint to get my SIM card. At first I called some local stores to see if they had any SIM card that would fit, and none is then when knew what the hell I was talking about. Did some Googling, discovered that I needed a nano SIM and went to Sprint's Live Support, and they already knew what the deal was when I started explaining. Sent me a nano SIM completely free of charge.

The repair store said Sprint doesn't have SIM cards in any flavor (which is a blatant lie. I'm sure they have harvested SIM cards), the Corporate store referred me to the repair store, and Sprint chat sent me the V4 SIM 5 times. My last try I gave them the sku, part number, and UPC. I refused to tell them what device it was for. That FINALLY got me the V5 nanoSIM. It's pretty bad you can go into a T-Mobile store and get a new SIM or have your Micro cut down. Sprint you wait days just to jump thru hoops and get pissed.

Anyone on AT&T? Have a question about the nano sim...

So my phone arrives today but I have a Note 4 which doesn't have a nano. Will I be able to just walk into an AT&T store to get a sim without the phone or will they want me to have the phone with me?
Sent from my Note 4
You can walk into an AT&T store and get one but you'll have to call customer support to get it activated. At least that's how I did it when I got my Z3.
Ah ok. That's fine. I just rather not have to carry around two phones so I can get a sim
Sent from my Note 4
I called them to send me an unactivated sim card, which they have done for me before, but they told me they needed an IMEI number in order to ship me out one. So i actually went ahead and printed out a template to cut down my current micro sim so i don't even have to go see them when the phone comes in. Template link below if you're interested.

If you walk into the store with your new phone and old SIM they will replace and activate the SIM right then and there. You might have to wait a bit to be escorted to one of those tables after being greeted at the door, but when you're done, you will walk out with a fully functional phone.
I called AT&T and they overnighted me the nano SIM card. They asked for the IMEI number but had no issues when I told them I had yet to receive the phone so could not provide the information.
Ah ok. Let me try that
Steve, I don't want to carry both phones and / or be without service. Want to just have the card already

You can also order a sim cutter off Amazon and cut the sim down when your phone arrives.
Ah I didn't want to do that. why spend money if I can get for free I got a Sim during lunch. I was told that I need a code that will activate the Sim which is sent over sms. I'll have to figure that one out
Ended up using Hangouts Dialer to call over Wifi and got the sim card activated. Worked like a charm.
I did also go to a store but there were at least 4 people ahead of me and I didn't want to wait. I made the right choice

Blacklisted Nexus 6P

Hi everyone,
I bought a Nexus 6P on Shpock selling app the other day, the previous owner had factory reset the phone before sending it to me. I was setting up the phone, and it asked me to put in the previous owners Google account to continue set up, obviously I did not know the details, and my impatience to ask for them was too short as I wanted to get into the phone and use it.
Anyway I found a video on YouTube explaining how to bypass this security. I followed all the steps and did everything correctly.
And now it turns out, my Nexus has been blacklisted. It had apparently been done on the same date and time as I was doing the security bypass. I will attach a photo to show you all
So my question is, could it have been blacklisted because of the security bypass?
I also have the email from Google saying welcome to your new Nexus 6P attached, this is to show the times are accurate to the blacklist time on the report.
Cheers!
Looks like there is about a month difference between blacklist date and email date. 7/5 and 6/6. Maybe previous owner decided to ditch it because of the T-Mo blacklist?
Oh my god I genuinely didn't notice the months difference! How stupid of me to not realise something so simple! The seller said it was unlocked, but when I try GiffGaff sim card who are linked to O2-UK it asks for a sim unlock pin. I've ordered a unlock code online, maybe it will work? I think it might because I bought a EE sim card to test it out (T-Mobile and Orange joined to make EE) and I got a signal on it??

In the US so not too sure of the carriers in your market, but the 6P is designed to be unlocked for any US sim (T-Mo, Sprint, Verizon, ATT I know for sure). It's not like a Samsung where you're tied down to one carrier. But if the phone does need an unlock I'm not aware of, the previous owner may have botched it and thus caused the blacklist.
Any possibility of it being a contract phone with an unpaid bill you think? Because i don't understand why it would be locked to one network and not be a contract phone, unless it was purchased from the EE store and locked to that network by default, I have no idea

I just did some cursory research. Seems T-Mobile (and maybe by extension EE?) is keen on locking SIMs regardless of if they were unlocked originally. Just saw this link http://www.t-mobile.com/company/com...olicy/unlock-your-mobile-wireless-device.html.
Would definitely contact T-Mo directly since they're the one who blacklisted it. Maybe you can talk to them about removing the block since you're not the original phone owner with whom they have issues.

Just made a strange discovery... apparently the IMEI of this phone is not recognised by T-Mobile???
I have no idea wtf is going on, guess I could call them and ask, but by the looks of it, I won't get anywhere with them!
That is odd. I definitely call them, humans are more understanding and creative than the website. Ask nicely, use flattery, and let us know what happens either way.

Cheers!
