Nexus 5X & Sprint - Nexus 5X General

I'm making this thread mainly to help others get up and running on Sprint. I suppose this can be the general Sprint N5X thread too.
In order to get service, we need to use a certain sim card. At least here in Houston, no stores actually carry the sim. Best Buy allegedly has the sim, but they're charging out the ass for it.
To order the sim, head to the international service chat. Inform them you need to order a sim for the Nexus 5X. Provide this ID number for the sim card: 019962040146. They'll ship it to you at no charge, and shipping is roughly 3 business days.
Feel free to post your own experiences with this whole process in this thread.

I simply went to a Sprint store with a repair on site and said I needed a SIM card for my Nexus 5X. The guy was aware of it and even showed me how they looked up the make and model for a phone and boom, the nano SIM type appeared. From the time he called me over to help to completion was maybe 15-20 minutes.

You are VERY correct! Sprint is stupid when it comes to SIM cards....they need to be programmed specifically for the model phone you have and do not have any generic SIM cards. I needed one for a used M9 I purchased and no store had one...had to order from customer service...the M8 SIM card will not work. So until Sprint gets up to speed with the rest of the world you have the best procedure right here.

For delivery or at a store? The repair store I went to literally had a bag full of them.

Yes. The at the store I was shown bags of SIM cards. Worker told me they have probably 7 variations of nano-SIM card and even the iPhone 6 nd 6S models have different ones as well.

Sorry but Tapatalk was having a terrible time not quoting people. I was asking if you're waiting for delivery to your home or to the store for a nano-SIM? When I called Sprint they said go to any Sprint store with a repair center. I was in an out in about 45 minutes. 30 minutes of waiting and 15 minutes of getting help.

Oh sorry. I'm waiting for delivery to the store. They didn't give me an option to have it sent to my house, and I didn't think to ask.

When I did the chat, rep just asked me to confirm my billing address and that it would be sent there. I received an email Sunday night saying it was given to UPS, and yesterday it started to move. Unfortunately, it'll take until Thursday or Friday to get to me.

For me, they sent 2 SIM cards with free 2day shipping. I'm supposed to get it tomorrow but tracking shows delivery today! I ordered mine through Sprint chat support.

Most likely no. They have dozens of cards nearly specific to each phone. You can't even do iPhone 6 to 6S SIM swap.

I'm no Sprint customer but want to have ringplus as a backup. I would need a sprint sim card for that.MOD Edit: No buying/selling/trading on XDA Of course, n5x user here so I will need the sim described here.
Not urgent and will update this post, when I get the sim.

This is the SIM card you will need for the 5X and 6P. I know this because I had a less than remotely pleasant experience getting one. I also have 5 iPhone nano SIMs because of it...

Yes, you need to be extremely clear with the order representative. They sent me a full size SIM for my HTC M9...smh! You should do it through chat on their site and be specific about the make and model of the phone, then have them confirm it before closing out the chat. They need to select the correct box for the model when ordering. For some godforsaken reason Sprint has many different SIMs specific to phone models. Hopefully they will make it to the 21st century one day :silly:

I actually had a relatively minor experience when I dealt with Sprint to get my SIM card. At first I called some local stores to see if they had any SIM card that would fit, and none is then when knew what the hell I was talking about. Did some Googling, discovered that I needed a nano SIM and went to Sprint's Live Support, and they already knew what the deal was when I started explaining. Sent me a nano SIM completely free of charge.

Only repair store would've have had an idea what you're talking about as they have the SIM cards. Regular ones should have suggested talking to one of those.

The repair store said Sprint doesn't have SIM cards in any flavor (which is a blatant lie. I'm sure they have harvested SIM cards), the Corporate store referred me to the repair store, and Sprint chat sent me the V4 SIM 5 times. My last try I gave them the sku, part number, and UPC. I refused to tell them what device it was for. That FINALLY got me the V5 nanoSIM. It's pretty bad you can go into a T-Mobile store and get a new SIM or have your Micro cut down. Sprint you wait days just to jump thru hoops and get pissed.

Can I use an actual T-Mobile Sim on Straight Talk?

Please forgive the dumb question but I haven't had a phone with a Sim in years.
After botching a cut job with the straight talk sim to get it to fit, I went and got a micro sim straight from a tmo store.
**Can I call ST and have them activate this Sim on the ST network? Or is there actually something special about the ST Sim?**
I already have all the APN info for ST on the phone since the botched card still kinda functions. The tmo Sim is not linked to any account; They just pulled it out of a drawer and sold it to me.
No, need a ST SIM.

Can you explain why not? What makes the difference between a Tmobile compatible ST sim and an actual Tmobile sim that can't be overcome with software mods?
Well for one, no one mods the way a sim interacts with the phone.. Also Straight Talk sims supposedly get lower tower priority.

Hmm. Fair enough.
As for the software mods, I guess I was referring more to setting up the access point info. Clearly I don't have much background with sim stuff, so I appreciate the info.
Nah, you can't mod the SIMs or anything. That's outside the scope of most people's technical ability.

One main reason you can not use anything other than an actual ST SIM, is that your account is based on it's serial number.
Normally ST accounts are based on the serial number of the ST Phone, but since this is BYOD, they use the SIM instead.
You can try to open a ticket on ST facebook and convince the reps your SIM is faulty so they send you a replacement. Else you're gonna have to buy another one.
Hope that helps,

Best Buy Unlocked Nexus 6

Hey everyone,
I know there was some confusion to this question only because I could not find any straight answers myself. But I can assure you that an unlocked nexus 6 from best buy will activate on Sprints Network without any issues.
Only thing I had to do was go to my local sprint store and ask for a nano Sim card. Took it home and placed it in my nexus 6. Went online to activate phone. Punched in the IMIE number leaving off the last digit and entered in the Sim number. Worked like a charm!

there's no confusion actually, everyone knows that all US bought n6 are exactly the same, and that putting a sprint sim in it will make it work on sprint. if you want to, you can put a tmobile or att or Verizon sim in it to make it work on those providers.

I guess my play store n6 has been lying to me since winter every time its worked on Verizon... Long before Verizon even carried it. Works on every carrier. Granted...vzw put it on the lost stolen blacklist when I was swapping between vzw and a prepaid at&t card at work..but they fixed it.
Technically the best buy website is correct. You can't buy an unlocked nexus 6 from best buy and simply activate it on Verizon like you would a normal Verizon branded phone. However the Nexus 6 itself IS capable of running on a CDMA network and will work on Verizon and Sprint. The trick is that you already needed to have an active line on Verizon, then its just a simple matter of putting the active nano sim into your nexus 6..

The nexus 6 is unlocked, you CAN simply buy it and activate it on Verizon like you would any other Verizon phone, please, look around the forums before telling them wrong info. If I really wanted to i could take my Nexus 6, originally purchased at Bestbuy for "sprint" and go to any carrier I please without having to jump through any hoops. Verizon will activate it and it'll show up as a "non Verizon" nexus 6 on the account or I can just grab any GSM carrier sim and go to town.

The AT&T version is the only one sim locked out of the big 4. Rogers in Canada is locked too, I believe.

Umm, you understand that only Verizon Nexus 6's can activated normally. That's why they sell Verizon "branded" nexus 6's. Again I said the nexus 6 purchased from Besy Buy will work, But walk into a Verizon store with a non Verizon branded phones and you will have to jump thorough some hoops to get it activated. Unless something has changed recently that is.
I went to a best buy to buy one. It said they had it in stock online. I called and got a recording saying check online for stock information. This Best buy is an hour drive, so I waited until I could actually talk to a person at the store. Asked them to verify they had it in stock. The guy says yep we have it.
I drive an hour, stand there for 20 minutes while the guy that told me he has it tries to find it. Apparently he never actually looked. He then proceeds to tell me that they have been having issues with the Nexus 6 stock in their system.
Yep, I was pissed.

There is no "Verizon" nexus 6, just the nexus 6, the only thing Verizon about it is the sim card. It's already been talked about in the Verizon fcc thread made a while back. The nexus 6 is the only special case phone that you don't have to do anything special because Google made it so carriers accept them. Verizon just likes to mess everything up, but obviously the people weren't having it.

I am hoping to get a best-buy nexus 6 and use it on VZW... the only problem is, the drones at the Corporate store tell me they won't activate a nano sim for me on one of their phones. The issue for me is I have a galaxy nexus with a micro sim.... soooooo... does anyone know I can activate it this way:
1) I get a nano to micro adapter and put a new vzw nano sim in it...
2) put the nano+micro adapter in to my GNex....
3) have them activate the sim via my gnex and then take the nano and put it into the n6
Is there anything that would prevent this from working??
Just cut the some down to nano size. Just what u did with my cricket Sim.
When I got my dev edition moto x, I took the nano sim to a vzw store and said I need a sim activated. They asked if I had the phone motioning to take it... I just said I do have a phone, but I don't need any help with it, I simply need the some card activated to my account. They had no problems. Just don't be sketchy or an asshole. You can have just a sim activated.
At least in the past if you have an extra line you can do it over the phone too, you just give them account Info and the code from your new sim and they activate it for you.
Though I guess if you own a nexus 6 and are coming to verizon? I doubt they are sending you to a competitor if you state you have a phone and simply want a sim.

Will Verizon try to interfere with Moto Pure?

Not seeing Verizon being amicable with this device the more I think about it and would not be surprised to see Verizon not part of the network. They are big, arrogant and like all the bloat to help drive data mining and other service revenue the bloat gives them. The precedent this sets if were successful is not in Verizon's best interests of bloat bait. Sure, you would think Verizon is still raking in the monthly service fees, but they love their bloat.
The Droid Maxx 2 (aka Moto X Play) has added to my perhaps overly cynical view of the situation.
Verizon isn't selling this phone, so they can't interfere with it. Motorola is selling it directly, and as far as I know it's already a fact that it will work with Verizon. If it's like the Nexus 6 at launch though, it will work fine by swapping SIMs, but it may not work immediately to activate new service on.
Received mine yesterday. Active SIM recognized VZW, but wouldn't activate. Tier 2 tech support had to manually enter, maybe take 8 hrs, so they say... :/

Original uncut nanoSIM from a Moto Nexus 6 (AMZN/VZW), which I didn't keep - horrible experience all-around.
While the Moto XP so far gives me some reminder, I like the Moto suite a lot. Have had some limited heat from
charging the battery, but that has always happened to me first time around. It goes away after a cycle or two
of discharge/charge. VZW is still clueless re: BYOD IMHO, and I think I knew more than the in-store rep w/ 11 yrs exp.

They might not be able to interfere (as much) but they certainly don't seem any more prepared for BYOD, IMHO. They didn't appear willing earlier today, but I held their feet to the fire,
esp. since I'm off contract in two months, which I reminded them of - as well as the fact that this device works with any major US carrier.
Saw an unboxing and the guy had no issues at all with VZW and then there's this to add credibility...

I was able to use my Straight Talk Verizon sim with my Moto X. When I talked with ST support they claimed it wouldn't work. I wasn't able to register the Moto X on the website with my IMEI it was forcing me to GSM activation. I activated the sim using another phone's serial, popped the sim in my Moto X, it got stuck on the activating wireless screen, but when I rebooted it connected to Verizon LTE and voice.
I popped my SIM in from my droid Maxx. Initially it worked, but then didn't. Then went to a corporate store that swore there was nothing they can do. Will next try an authorized retailer. GRRRRRR!

This all sounds like its going to be a pain in the butt to get activated on VZW. I have a N6 that i was planning to sell and if i just swap the sim dont think ill be able to sell it. VZW is always a pain in the butt with this stuff, i only wish there service wasnt better then most by me
I went to Verizon and they tried activating but no luck. Came home and cut my micro sim from my HTC One M7 and popped it in. Working just fine now.

They WILL need to activate the sim using a diff phone's imei. Just tell the rep that's what needs to be done, if he doesn't attempt it himself. So far no issues.

After the corporate store debacle I went to an authorized seller store. They were much nicer. He suggested we take the SIM out of my Maxx, put it back in the pure and then turn the pure back on. Voila, so far it has worked. This morning when I put the SIM in I didn't power down and then turn the phone back on fwiw.

Has anyone activated the MXP as a new Verizon contract? I have read thorough the post and have seen mostly people that have already had Verizon contracts and just put that Sim in the MXP.

I'm wondering the same having only used GSM phones. So far I'm using my AT&T SIM but believe Verizon has better coverage in my area (western CT).
On their site I started here (scroll down) with the 'I'm not with Verizon' button, then chose 'I have my own device' on the popup and got to a page I can't directly link that asks for my device ID/IMEI, and then tells me "The phone associated with the Device ID you entered is not compatible with the Verizon Wireless network."
I would like the 3 GB $45/mo plan and am assuming that's with no contract and should be available for the Moto XPE, right? I can go to a store but I'd like to know the facts first to avoid getting derailed by unknowledgeable/uncooperative staff, though I'd prefer doing it online if I can get past the phone ID barrier. Maybe they'll update their approved phones soon but I'd like to shift over before the 20th when my current month ends with AT&T. Should I try calling them and has anyone done that successfully?

I called the number on the website and got a sales associate who also took my IMEI and said it's not currently 'registered' (the word he used) on Verizon, so I can't get a new account using it. He couldn't/wouldn't give any clear idea on if/when it will be but did say the new plans are no-contract now. My guess is a store will tell us the same thing, so won't bother unless we hear of success stories from others and how they did it.

Someone on motorola forums wrote to activate without entering any IMEI number, because system will show that IMEI is not in their system.
I wonder if buying a prepaid Verizon Sim then using that to open a normal Verizon.

Or simply buy a regular sim card for htc m9 on ebay or wherever and then chat with them or call and ask them to activate without device, tell them you are using non-vzw device which works just fine on Verizon,or some people had success at corporate stores with managers activating,or if you have a good premium retailer try that as well.
Need an imei of a device that takes a nano sim that is allowed on VZW network. I wasn't making a new account but I needed the nano sim. Wife's device (galaxy s6)is on the account and had the VZW rep use her device imei to issue me a simcard. Works perfect.

Yeah it all depends on the tech I think. I have heard of all kinds of stories about the "techs", lol

This is why I think using a prepaid Sim might work, because since is under Verizon's BYOD, Bring Your Own Device, that they will allow it to be activated. I am then wondering if I then ask for a normal contract if it would be simpler.

What a pain in the @$$ all this seems... If Verizon isn't doing contracts what do they care? We are still paying for there service... I don't get how what phone you will use on it matters? I am planning to go back to Verizon but I don't want to deal with this when I do. Grr

I am now thinking if the device is purchased directly for Motorola then it will active on Verizon but if it is bought else where then it is an issue.

There's only 3 places to buy from: Motorola, Amazon and Best Buy. If you're buying from Best Buy, they can activate it for you. I believe with Amazon, you would have to go to your carrier just like if you bought from Motorola.
Pretty irritating
I bought the prepaid sim pack yesterday & spent an hour and a half on the phone with them and can't get it activated. Does anyone know what to do? Apparently the device isn't in the system according to the techs I spoke with even though you can enter it in the device compatibility and it says it is

PSA: Word to the Wise about Google RMAs on Verizon

Apparently Google can "forget" to register devices on a carriers which will mean there will be a 1 to 4 days activation time after you get your phone. If you had a backup device and turn it off before you power on your Pixel you got in the mail, then power on your Pixel it will not activate. Mine kept saying something about needing better coverage to activate. Then it said an error happened during activation and I needed to call customer care. So basically they have to put in a request to Google to activate the IMEI on Verizon's network (Make sure you give them the right IMEI & SIM #) which will take some time. The associates I spoke to didn't seem like it was a rare occurrence for manufacturer warranty replacements.
Doesn't really make sense to me. Why would Google need to activate a device on a Verizon network? Think about it.
In the past I've heard of newer Nexus devices not having their IMEI registered on CDMA networks so the said phone couldn't be activated but that was a Carrier issue and was fixed after they added it to their network.
Seems to me that the Verizon rep lied to you and placed the blame on Google when in fact it's Verizon's fault. They want you on their version on the Pixel with a lockable bootloader anyway.
Don't always believe customer reps, they will say anything and everything to avoid a conflict and get you off the phone quicker.

You take your SIM card out, put it in the new phone and go. There is no activation anymore like the olden days of CDMA phones. The only reason it would need "activated" would be if the IMEI was blacklisted or flagged as stolen, and I doubt Google is shipping out stolen/flagged phones.

Did you get a Google pixel or a Verizon pixel?( Bootloader unlockable or not?)

When the phone is going through the wizard it literally says "Activating". Maybe you didn't notice it goes so quick

And you sent in a Verizon pixel? I'm debating doing this cause I'll be out of a phone for a lil since it isn't advanced replacement.

Not out of a phone for too long. As soon as you ship yours they see the tracking number.....And they ship right away. They don't wait for it to show up.

And it'll do the exact same thing if it was a previously activated phone that was factory reset. I don't know what is doing, but it isn't activating of you're just swapping SIM cards. In that case, registering on the network would probably be more accurate.

i do see the "activating" on all my Verizon phones after a wipe or a new phone but i personally think it could say " getting service " or joining network" whatever and its not the same "activating" we use to see back in the day before SIM cards on Verizon
i am a phone nut and throw my SIM in and out of different phones all the time and they work as soon as SIM goes in even if they are already on
What reason are you using to be able to get the RMA from Google? I would love to be able to get rid of my Verizon lock Bootloader for a Google version

Sounds like alot of speculation. I see activating and we'll need a VZW tech to tell us what it's actually doing.

Thanks for posting this. I'm going through this right now..... my "standard replacement" took 4 weeks. Any idea why Google won't advance replace these devices? Other than google just being a PITA.... seems like it shouldn't matter where they come from.
