Hello everyone
I bought a Nexus 4 ( I wish I didn't !) . Actually I bought it and they sent me from a far away city ! I guess you don't know my country but I live in Tehran and the seller lives 1200 km away ! Anyway ! I unpacked it and start it without sim card ( I should convert it to micro sim) . it was working just fine ! I connected it to my modem using wi-fi and browsed pages ! buttttttttttttttttttt !
after converting sim card and putting it in the sim tray ! It said : NO SIM CARD ! I changed it with my friends' sim cards and it didn't work ! their sim cards work in their cell phone anyway !
So :
1.I have a Nexus 4 which doesn't read or work with my sim cards !
2.when I search for networks , it finds operators but when I select my operator , after a while it says : Your sim card couldn't make a connection to your .... !
3.and when I lock screen and push power to unlock it , it says : NO sim card , Emergency calls only !
SOOOOOOOOOOO , some question :
1.is my Nexus 4 lock factory ? How to find it ? Is there a way to check it like IPHONE or any other ways ?
2. what does "Regulatory Information" in setting > about phone > means ? I 'am not sure my Xperia Arc which I used to work with , had this option or not ? What's this ?
3. Tell me a way to do something ! Unfortunately Google doesn't support our region ! I should do something or find a way to give it back to the seller (He will decline )
Get your money back ASAP! Sounds like it is blacklisted to me.

I think there is a problem with the sim tray. Make sure that the Sim is fitting properly. If it is then find the seller ASAP

First, stop with the exclamation points.
My friend cut down his sim to a micro sim and it didn't work. He paid $20 to get a microsim from the store and it worked. If the seller got it from Google Play then it should be unlocked.
It's not factory SIM-locked, no. The problem seems to be that you are using a cut-down SIM, is that right? The N4 seems to be very sensitive to having the SIM cut correctly, and a lot of people have had the same problem as you. If it isn't cut exactly right then it doesn't work.
Can you get a proper micro-SIM?
Sent from my Nexus 4
Try getting proper micro-SIM and not cut one, and in addition contact the seller for further information

Other people have had exactly the same experience though. It seems that the N4 is more sensitive than other phones to having it cut *exactly* right.
I am not saying that the SIM has been destroyed in cutting it down, just that the N4 doesn't like it.

The problem is exist Still ! My operator haven't released Micro Sim yet !
OLD technology !!!! There are two other operator in Iran but I'm not going to change my operator because it's not common here and my first priority is the one which has old technology ! I might give it back to the seller (Let's hope he wont refuse !)
IS there anybody who had involved with this kind of problem ? I mean , how many percent do you guess it's caused by android (Software) ????
When I first got my sim card in it didn't work either then I figured out you have to actually and a little bit extra pressure to the trey before it reads the sim

I did it ! Still out of service ! It's sent back to the seller ! He said he's going to check it and send it for LG agents ! They will send me back another one if the problem wouldn't solve
Any other ideas !??
What do you think ? I've read several posts about Sim issue ! I guess many people have faced this problem ! Actually it seems to be caused by Cutting method ! Nexus 4 wont work if you would place punched Sims into it ! I mean , we should try a standard Micro Sim ! NO CUTTING !

Dude, there is a punctuation called FULL STOP (F.S) and this is how you write it.
PLEASE, for the love of GOD, stop writing so many exclamation marks. You are using it in place of F.S. This confuses with the letter " I " you write.
Coming to the problem, this is one of the issue N4 has and with more production we are seeing really new issues. I don't know what the heck is LG doing. And it becomes even more frustrating when you don't live in a country where Google is supported. That's sad.
It does work if you cut the SIM just right.
My N4 is using a SIM that I cut down myself with a SIM cutter tool. I am not saying that any old SIM cutter will definitely work, just that it can work if you are very careful to cut it accurately.

Going to emphasize on this sentence : "Sim card which I tried to insert into the Nexus 4 and didn't work , work in other models and brands!!" . Means Sim(s) aren't damaged ! my Nexus refuses them , Iphone 4s and other models work with sim(s) already !

We've already been through this. I know your SIM isn't damaged. It doesn't matter, it still won't work in your N4 if it doesn't line up exactly right when it is in the SIM tray. Lots of people have had the same problem.
It needs to be undamaged *and* cut perfectly or it won't work in an N4, even though it might work fine in other phones.

Everything will be clearly solved after checking Nexus using standard micro sim . I'll reply result
I have no way of knowing if this is your situation, but I have read some threads where some carrier's regular sim cards are slightly thinner than the micro sim cards and placing a couple of layers of scotch tape on the backside of the sim card helps with certain devices. I know this has helped me in cases where the sim slot had gone bad, typically from the device being dropped.
My sim worked perfectly and I cut it down, and it worked from the first time

I was wondering how easy it would be to go from a Galaxy S2 to a Nexus 4. If I wanted to, would I be able to just buy the Nexus 4, pop in the SIM card from my Galaxy S2, and just go giddy with joy from there?
The N4 has a Micro SIM, so you would either need to 1) Cut the SIM (service available almost anywhere) or 2) Get a Micro SIM from your carrier.
You can then get a Micro SIM adapter, which in short converts the Micro SIM back to the Standard SIM size if you choose to go to the S2 again.

If you're really desperate for a micro-SIM and/or short on cash you can cut it, though personally I'd recommend that you just get a micro-SIM from your carrier. Here in Australia at least, I believe there are a small amount of SIMs that just won't cut down to a micro-SIM without turning into a dud since the metal contact sections are slightly larger/smaller.
You can also use a cut mini-SIM->micro-SIM as an interim SIM whilst awaiting the legitimate micro-SIM

Definitely free to get a replacement SIM with Telstra, though they're pretty much the premium carrier in Australia. Guessing you're Amaysim or LiveConnected? I'll probably switch to LC once I get the N4.

Good info.
I think you got your answer already, but wanted to give my input on one thing, might save you a few bucks if it isn't too late already.
If you chose to use the micro sim back in S2, you DO NOT need an adapter. I was swapping my iPhone 4 sim back and forth between s2 and ip4, In s2, you just align the sim contacts with the metal contacts of the phone and push it in place.. no need for an adapter, and most adapters wont fit in s2 unless you apply a lot of pressure which may damage your phone.

After two days of research and trying this and that o finally had my wives phone recognizing and registering on the Straight Talk network but only here and there. It will stop reading the SIM randomly. Now I'm trying to set mine up and I'm having the same problem. "No SIM card, Emergency Calls only". Has anyone found a solution or fix cause I'm right before throwing the phone.... which wouldn't be good..its a glass phone after all. Straight Talk is zero help. Just called and ordered two replacement SIMs. They tried to tell me AT&T was the best coverage for my area and T- Mobile had spotty coverage here and that's why my SIM cards aren't working. To the average customer, this would've made perfect sense. Those of us that are inept enough to be active here know that's bs. I've had Tmo here. I happen to know they are the best coverage in this city. Told the CSR I refuse to be on AT&T anything. Dealt with them in the past. Know from experience about their shady practices and inconsistent policy enforcement. Throttle this person, let that person run several GB a month. Been there done that. Anyhow :rant end: I'm ordering an actual SIM cutter today also and hopefully that makes the process run smoother.

It's not the phone, nor the Sim. It sounds like a misaligned cutter. Note, a Sim cutter may also cut the Sim wrong if the user doesn't adjust / align it correctly. I suggest you borrow / find a precut Sim to compare alignment with before hand. There is very little room for error. Remember Sims are supplied either 1.8/2.95v power and you could short out your phone with the slightest error..
How did you cut? I used a $2 micro sim cutter from Amazon and its worked flawlessly. The sim is a hair thicker than the real t-mobile micro sim (have both T mobile and AT&T micro sims to test out services) but the alignment is perfect and no issue with the phone recognizing it.
The thing that makes me curious is your post from yesterday about the CSR telling you to use an AT&T sim. Im guessing they are out of the loop since StraighTalk has removed any reference of AT&T from their site, including the SIMs.

Although they are supposed to stick to a script, sometimes they fill in the blanks. Perhaps not understanding his real problem. I'm sure mentioning you cut their Sim would give you a few different responses.
I used a noosy kit from amazon for $7. And noticed it has some play/ adjustment and you could snip it wrong. The one I cut for my wifes iphone also left an edge unclean and slightly curled up. Which caused it to jam the tray..
Best and cheapest way to get a micro Sim for reference is the $1 simple mobile ones.. Cut right even allows you to use the letter piece as an adapter if you needed to switch back to reg sized Sim too.
I just got this message on my phone and I have no idea how to fix it, I searched Google and tried just about everything I can. Sorry I think you may need to do a factory reset. Try backing up as much as you can off the phone and do the reset. GL My wife's touch 4g had the same issue when switching sim cards from her work blackberry to the touch 4g. Because the phone was brand new, there was no issue in doing a factory reset with the sim card installed.

bad choice buddy , should have bought it straight from google ORRR , asked the owner for the imei so you can check if its clean , im a big craigslist person too , but you have to check things like that , i bought a xbox 360 for cheap that was in mint condition but it was console banned for hacking/piracy reasons.
EDIT tmobile is cracking down on people who buy phones for cheap on a contract and dont finish paying , they will block your phone from their networks.

Hi there...
just got my Nexus yesterday. I'm from Brazil and a friend of mine got it from Play Store (unlocked, I guess). Here we have 4 main carriers, mine is OI. My Sim card works great in other devices (tested on Iphone 4S and Galaxy SIII). The device shows all 4 carriers, but when I tap on "OI", I got the same topic message.
Any ideas???

Hey Guys
I bought my Nexus 4 the other day. Its my 2nd android phone still don't know much about android I switched from an iPhone to android. When I received my nexus 4 It had a MicroSIM card slot so I took the SIM from my HTC One which I cut myself from a template (works fine on the HTC One) and I Inserted It and It said Emergency calls only. I've tried flashing some roms but It didn't work. So I called up my carrier and asked them for an actual MicroSIM that was by them and they sent me one with the same Phone Number. But still No Luck with It. Any help?
Thanks

If the cards are cut from a regular SIM, you will have issues as the N4 is very picky about SIM cards. Search the forums, people have reported this issue. Only way around it is to use micro sim that are not cut from regular sims.
I hope you bought this brand new....

I had the same problem before. Cut my old sim card and it didn't work on N4. (The N4 was straight out of the box). It works on other phones though. So, I got myself a replacement micro sim for the previously cut sim but it still didn't work.
In the end, I went back to the service provider, bought a new sim (from the same provider, only different number), cut it to micro size, pops it in and voila! It works.
I was like, "eh?! You've got to be kidding me!". So yeah, my conclusion back then was that my N4 hates the old number. Hahahaha

The box is legit! the pick can be taken at any place before opening!!
But the nanosim notification on the back is related to a possible fake!
S4 use micro SIM card and the position is central right, not left side as it seems to be on the photo.
for me this deal is a trick.
I received a s4 in the exact same box and with the same stickers on the back etc from Vodafone UK. I think it's just how they come from certain supplier's.

The thing about the sim just means that it takes a nano sim with no adaptor at all.... This means that you need a nano sim for this phone, not a full size one...

Hi,
The "Don't Use SIM Adapter" looks like it wasn't factory glued there. If I were you I'd ask for more information and pictures of the device before you get it, as far as I can see it's original, but you never know if it isn't any fake device out there. More important of everything, check if the seller has a good reputation before getting anything this expensive.
