The P11 Plus... - Huawei Mate 9 Guides, News, & Discussion

They say this is the P11Plus.
If that is so, I reckon Huawei is in trouble.
Remember the outcry at the Samsung S5? Well, if this is the P11 Plus, I don't think Huawei is doing enough with design to stay competitive.
Yes, it appears that everyone is reaching the very edges of what more to do with design but I have a feeling that everyone will be launching 'desirable' phones in 2018 - Annnnnd looking like this, this just simply is not.
What do you think?

Who cares? I even havent seen any Mate 10 or P10 in my country yet, let alone P11 or something we would call in the future. Relax friend!

Why post this in the Mate 9 section? It's got nothing to do with the Mate 9.

I like it.
I hope they keep it simple and not glass all-round like Mate 10. Too fragile.
I wan't flagship specs on a semi-sturdy phone, with relatively cheap repair in case of screen break. Case protects the rest of the phone.

Keep your hair on.
Because the P11 doesn't have it's own site up yet.
We're Huawei and we're interested in what's coming up.
It will disappear very soon anyway...
If you look you'll see that people will discuss - lightly - what's on the horizon.
It's interesting.

Those guys are idiots, not even a Huawei phone (Aurora is a cheap pos phone brand you can find on Alibaba), besides them mentioning a mate 11 and mate 11 pro, neither of which exist, these guys need to check their s*** before they publish if they want to have any semblance of credibility.

Walking Away from the Huawei Ascend Mate 7

Hey everyone.
So I have now given up. I have abandoned all hopes that our pleading and moaning would soften Huawei's cold, corporate heart and allow us to use android to its full potential. I have given up waiting for the rumored Marshmallow update and I have lost all faith in Huawei.
Here comes the question: Where to next?
Of course the phone has its upsides. The beautifully small bezels and decent screen make consuming content on the phone is a pleasurable experience (provided you're using earphones / headphones), and the gargantuan battery can keep you going for hours of binge-watching. The fingerprint reader has you back in action in the blink of an eye after you have stepped away to top up your drink and the snappy processor does not fail to impress when it comes to day-to-day operations.
BUT, this is only what they want you to see. I get a very, shall I say, Apple-esque feeling when using my Mate 7. Things are locked up, neatly boxed and kept in check. I cannot use my phone, which I paid for and use every day to install my favorite custom ROM's. I can't install Xposed, and that makes me sad and it makes me mad with rage. For my own health I have decided to walk away and leave this experience behind me. An experience that was not uncomfortable or inconvenient, but not fantastic and joyful either. It's like that friend who, even though you hang out all the time and have known each other for years, you just can't really like for some reason.
So, this weekend I am going to embark on a journey to find my new electronic companion. And I will not go home until I have done so. And this is why I am asking you for help. What should I keep my eyes open for? Let me list things that I am looking for in an ideal candidate:
- Good battery. The mate 7 will be hard to beat here, but anything that can comfortably get me through a day of moderate to heavy use will suffice.
- Decent camera. Let's face it, the Mate 7's camera is not too good, and for the job I have I need a phone that can snap a tantalizing picture in a moment's notice. OIS is a must.
- SUPPORT FOR CUSTOM ROMS AND XPOSED
- Good screen. I don't need an ultra-quad-4k display with a quintilian PPI, but a decent screen will go a long way.
- Fingerprint reader. This is not a must. My Moto 360 and Smart Lock will take care of things if it doesn't have one, but it'll be a plus.
SO, guys, what do you think? At this moment I'm thinking of going the Samsung route. This is not, I know, the best of the best as far as pure android goes, but it's decent at least (thinking of a Note 4/5). If I can find one where I live I will probably end up going for a Nexus 6P, though I doubt I'll find one here.
Any advice will be much appreciated.
Sorry for the rant!
Cheers :good:
A Nexus 6 would be a good choice. In fact, I am thinking about this change. Slightly better camera, better sound, better display, more powerful gpu, water resistant... And of course the best development support ever. The downsides (for me) would be the design and fingerprint sensor. The battery is not as good as in the Mate7 but it's still above average.
I don't like the design of the Nexus 6p, it's more expensive and also the SD810 chip is very problematic...

I in turn (personal opinion alert) love the design of the 6P, and if I can manage to find one where I live, which is unlikely, I'll definitely pick it up. Yeah sure, it's a bit more expensive, and the 810 heats up, but I'll kill for that pure Android experience. It's the reason why I moved back to Android from IOS, but I blindly bought the HAM7 thinking I'll just stick a custom ROM on it. Shows you the importance of doing research beforehand....
Nexus devices aren't sold in retail where I live, and it'll only be smaller, niche companies that would bother importing them, so I'll probably end up having to settle for a LG G4 or Galaxy S5 / Note 4, of which there are plenty.
To be honest, and this is quite depressing to admit, other than Samsung and Huawei devices you'll pretty much only find cheap Chinese phones and other unknown / knockoff devices here. Very sad indeed...
Maybe you can find an One Plus Two? People are happy with it and there is some interesting development for it

These are pretty decent alternatives, and pretty much in the range I'm looking for. The Galaxy A9 should be easy enough to find here. Replace Touchwiz with something else like CM and it will be a decent daily driver. I might even be able to find an Oppo here... Maybe... But I'll read up on the A9 as it's most likely to pop up in a store here. Thanks! :good:
I have been equally frustrated with this phone as well but it does have some major upsides like you've stated. I just want to inform you that the final and official EMUI 4.0 Marshmallow update is available for those who search enough! I'm running Android Marshmallow right now + a custom theme that removes the ugly backgrounds and borders on icons so except for the lack of an app drawer, the software is pretty neat now. I found this site ( huaweifirmware.com/huawei-mate-7 ) with instructions. There is also a thread in the general section of the Mate 7 with another download link for the marshmallow update! Cheers! :highfive:
Keep in mind that is for the 2Gb L09 version.
The 10 is only at B331 LP still.

If you are talking about MM then B511 is available for L09 and TL10. You need to get to B326 first before upgrading to B511.

Which official version are you talking about , to my knowledge there egypt and I think also poland who got marshmallow on OTA, but it was actually the Beta they rolled out.
Confirm that the so called official version is not identical to the beta version ?

Yes, it was released as a beta, however quite a successful one at that. I find it better than all the other roms, KK, LP and MM, beta or otherwise.

As RobboW said the MM update is only for the L09 version (I'm on the L10 3gb). Plus it's infuriating that I couldn't even get an OTA update to LP, it has to be done manually. Granted it isn't a very complicated process, but I do not agree with Huawei's lack of support when it comes to updates.
Even looking past that the most annoying thing is EMUI itself. It just simply isn't for me, from the dialer app to the notification panel, everything annoys me.
I have done some reading up and I think I'm gonna go with a OnePlus 2. I certainly won't get it here, though fortunately my boyfriend will be travelling to the UK for business soon, so he'll be able to pick one up for me there. The OP2 has near-to-stock Android with a few sprinkles on top, it's battery should be able to last me even through the roughest of days and of course root / ROM support is much, much better. It's also got a fingerprint scanner, which is a bonus and the camera is okay.
I'm also frustrated with the way Huawei handels OTA updates, I've only gotten 2 small ones and had to manually update to 5.1 and 6.0. I understand you wanting to switch phones, enjoy your new one! I do recommend updating to the B513 "beta" version for TL-09, I do not know anything about the TL-10 version. Best of luck!

That being the case, I'd say get your boyfriend to pick you up a 6p if you could scrape up the funds. Sounds like you have the same mindset as I had regarding the mate 7....I also considered the one plus but ultimately ponied up the extra and got the 6p and am extremely happy. Ticks all the boxes and shows how good huawei hardware can be if paired with the right software. The emui, lack of fully functional 'vanila' aftermarket android rom support for the mate 7 and the overly convoluted flashing processes were the main reasons I dumped the 7. The camera on the 6p is also light years ahead, especially in low light.
I‘m using Lollipop B331 and cannot get VIPER4Android to install it's driver, but other than that I like Lollipop.
I‘ve realised I can‘t do without Viper. Rather than sell my Mate 7 I will revert to Kitkat so I can run Viper. l‘ll also be able to get some basic Xposed to work again.
A 6P would be hard to beat if it had an SD820

[General] A few questions/simple discussion.

I passed by the "Win an Honor 8" thing quite the few times and had recognized the name from somewhere. I don't have any luck when it comes to raffles and I have no income currently to get one myself so I wanted to ask some things in the forums here. (I'm sorry if this is the wrong place to talk about it.)
I saw that there was some major hype around the Honor5X/8(?) and I wonder what the main selling point for this is. Is it strong in any particular field such as performance, reliability, or photography? Thank you for putting up with my silly questions
Broad question. The appeal of the Honor 8, at least as far as I understand it, is good performance for a low price.
hey group
hey you guys im new to this forum im actually participating in the chance to win the honor 8. it looks like it will be a major player in the months to come. im currently using an oppo find 7 qhd display and ive had it for at least 2 years now. although i do not want to change phones since im so use to this one i would still purchase this phone and use it as my business daily phone
As far as Honor 5X is concerned, it targets the budgeted segment who expects metallic feel with Fingerprint sensor at the price point of 200$.
Honor 8 targets the photography part and its glass layered design. You can see the Saffire blue model for its attractiveness.
As far as all Honor Mobiles are concerned, 2 years software update is guaranteed unless there is any hard restriction such as Carrier support (or) Hardware support.

I looked into the Honor series a bit and I'm either considering the Honor 8 or the Moto Z Play right now to change from my Nexus 5. I will however miss the unlimited cloud storage for video and pictures. But frankly 16GB (12 usable) is way too little storage space nowadays and having to carry a charger at all times is dragging me down (by the pants at least) so I really need to upgrade. But thank you all for the discussion :3
Coming from CM as a daily driver I really dislike EMUI and it's a shame CM for the honor 8 doesn't work properly yet.
It's also been one of the main critiques of the Honor 8.
If you want it for gaming, don't. other than that, ignore benchmarks, day to day performance is fantastic which is the main reason why I got it.
The other one is the design.
Although the non gorilla glass back seems to be somewhat fragile according to some.
I also don't find it as slippery as most reviewers claim.
So yeah in short performance for the price is great.
For me personally it's an iPhone 6 for half the price and without iOS. So a great deal.

Which should i buy?...Huawei Mate 9, Huawei Mate 9 Plus, Huawei Mate 9 Pro?

I know there must be lot of this threads, but a friend of mine its ona a trip and he will buy me my new next smartphone, soo i lack time. I first told him to buy me the Huawei Mate 9, but then i realize abuout the "Plus" and the "Pro" and now im confused. I know the Pro changes to AMOLED which is better than the mate 9. Or all this its about media using "Plus" instead of "Pro"?

How do you think about Huawei and the promise for our Honor phones??

Hii to all Honor 8 owners
I am starting this topic couse every here and there I find in all of the threads
someone complain how the Huawei don't care and that they don't update
our phone in a good way or at least as promised.
So, the ones which are compain, they say like I paid the money for the phone
I want this or that and they are not satisfide with the phone couse it is an all around good
phone but you know, no xda support or something like it is a good value phone but
Huawei is bad and so on and so on.
Now I want this things to be discussed in this topic...
What do you think, will we get the android O update?
Why do you think Huawei is the one to be blamed?
Do you think they will not keep with the promise they gave to all Honor phones
and the 2 year software upgrade??
Are you dissapointed with this phone or just with Huawei??
Do you think you are not getting with this phone what you have paid for??
And lots of other stuff to be discussed in this topic and thread..
Now to give my opinion.
First I want to say I had a lot of smartphones
I was having from LG, Samsung, Sony and some other phones and now evan this Huawei
The first thing I notice is you guys complain in every xda thread the same and
not being real not for once for any phone
It goes like this
I will never again buy an Huawei or LG or Samsung or Sony or other phone like iPhone
I paid so much money but not getting the full software support, they just don't care about this phone
Then after like 7 days it goes like this is the worst phone I ever had.. do not buy that phone guys couse
it has an overheat issue when gaming..
It is not good for gaming at all
And so on and so on...
Well I must say that you guys always complain that you don't know how to buy your next phone
or you want it to be perfect for the money you paid.. so you are not real..
So lets be real just for once, how come evan an samsung s8+ owner after one or two weeks is
complaining about the phone?? And the usuall thing, I wont buy samsung no more!! LooOOooL
Dont you go and read about the phone what you are getting and what you will be paying for?
Dont you come over to xda to first ask for user experiance but after some time you come to
blaim some company for not giving updates like you DESIRE IT .. like every month.. regardless of
the REAL possibility to have such support??
I had so many phones wich not evan had what now the Honor 8 has.. I had phones wich had no
support not just from the manufacturer but also not on xda like couse my phone was in my region
with the bootloader locked with no possibility to unlock it ever!!
And I was stuck on what I get out of the box
So, long story short, why you guys always looking for the perfect one wich will have it all
like the best build the premium feel and the xda support and evan the support from the
manufacturer and then not getting it and come to blaim someone after like two weeks..
Can it just once be like.. I am satisfide with what I got??
My opinion you should be satisfide with the Honor 8
It has after like 10 months more then some more expansive phones
Not to evan say something about the premium feel and the build quality
So, lets discuss it now and here what you think overall of it.. not in every other topic..
Software Update Policy for the Honor 5x and 8
Software Update Policy for the Honor 5x and 8
Posting this first will promote a better and more productive discussion.
BTW, the last time the Honor 8 FDR-L04/L14 were up-to-date with security patches was October 2016 when Huawei released B162 firmware. December security patch was released in February and that's the latest official we've got so far. Now the still to be released B385 update will bring us just up to March's patch.
I'm starting to see a pattern here now and is not good.
Hii @Dominikrod
Thanks for the link for the update policy
And yes it is not updated that fast.. like getting the march security in the late april or start of may
But is it really something to complain so much of it like some of users do?
What I want to say this is a very good phone not just for the price but it has right now more than some phones priced this much like the samsung A5 2016/2017 phones..
And I do belive that we will get not just the android O but also the needed support for it.. my opinion is it is like only 10 months on the marked and I think that Huawei is going to at some later point give the source code and needed support.. Thanks for your reply @Dominikrod. If what is actually going on is "the best possible" from Honor, then they are really bad at that.
People will always find something to complain about, but in this case, it is something that they (Honor) promised and they are not fulfilling. Imagine unboxing your phone and notice it have an inferior processor or half the RAM as announced. May be a little exaggerated, by I feel I'm not getting all that was promised.
I got this phone expecting to use great custom roms because of the XDA-Honor collaboration, which just seem like a scam from Honor by not releasing the kernel source.

Hii @fernandoarafat
And yes if it is the best possible wich is Huawei doing right now I think
it is still good enough but thats just my opinion
But yes I do see that this promise thing you all are saying made you all disappointed
in Huawei..
But nobody is saying if they ever gave a time limit like when they will be releasing anything
to the XDA community... all I hear is no more Huawei I wont be buying anymore phones from Huawei
or the other stuff you are disaappointed..
I just have an idea... like if Huawei had talked first with someone who was in charge from the XDA community..
And some of us ( as I know some developers ) were contacting Huawei..
Why don't we ask the ''someone'' from XDA community ( who made this agreement with Huawei )
to ask for all the Huawei owners here on XDA what is going on??
I think we should ask for what is promised and ask
for some answers or some time limit when some of things will happen.
Anybody more intrested?? Or maybe did anybody already spoke to someone
and has already some info regarding this??

Don't know if you remember this one but this is almost laughable!
This was Taylor speaking about their new Software Update Policy.
Taylor Wimberly, a customer acquisition manager at Huawei Technologies (which owns Honor), has even gone so far as to challenge other manufacturers to follow Honor's example. "I hope that by announcing this policy that we can change the industry for the better. Seriously, all OEMs should be doing this and I welcome them to join us."
I just tried to contact the XDA community
But after asking the things I was.. and hitting the red SEND button
to send my message to them.. well it just was sending and sending it forever..
So, I have saved the text in my notepad and will try later to send it
Or some other day..
If I succeed and if I get an answer I will report this back to all of you

Hi brljak83,
I'm not sure a 10 month-old phone counts as new device in this market, it's more of a passing one. The truth is that Huawei started quite nicely at the beginning but everything went down hill after November of last year. If you remember this phone was announced back in July/August and Huawei made all sort of PR stunts to convince prospect buyers that their product was the best choice in the $400 to $450 range, at least here in the USA market. I went ahead and bought for myself the $450 Honor 8 64GB at the beginning of that campaign. The Oneplus 3 was $399 at that time, but I wasn't happy with the way OnePlus treated OP2 and OPX owners, so I didn't wanted to do business with them anymore even though the OP3 was an amazing device for the price. Then OnePlus 3T happened and Huawei coudn't justify the overpriced H8 pricing strategy so retailers started discounting the Honor back in November. Some people may argue that H8 was not competing with the 5.5" screen phones but if you read carefully from the beginning that was their intention all alone. Actually some reviews I read compared it mostly with the OP3 and the Axon 7 since those phones are in the same price range or were.
Now mid May 2017, the OP3/3t and the Axon 7 64GB have Android 7.1.1 since April, plus both phones have been getting more frequent security update patches than the H8. And where are we? Still stuck with Android 7.0, December's Security Patch, battery drain issues and some old bugs that have not been fixed yet.
Now you tell me if Taylor Wimberly's August comment about other manufacturers should follow their example and commitment doesn't seem totally laughable.
What about this?

Hii
Thanks you for that link
I tried last night to contact the XDA community to get some answers
But it failed..
Thanks to you I got someone to contact regarding the partnership
When and if I get an answer I will post it and report it back to all of you
So that all of you will know what has been told to me
Thanks for the help :highfive:
No, I'm not happy.
I didn't buy this phone because of any xda partnership. I only found out about it after. Great!
I bought it because I liked Huawei devices, and despite EMUI being a pain sometimes, it had a lot of features that I did like.
What I did not expect was the endless amount of bugs and issues.
And now, I don't mind a few, it happens. I'm even happy we got an update to 7.0, even if they should have given us 7.1.
What I don't like is going MONTHS without a dime big patch.
Not to mention, due to "low sales", they're going to be pulling out of the US, so all of us will lose all support for our devices.
So no, forget it. I'm voting with my wallet and not buying another Huawei.
And you're right, everyone does say that. But I don't buy Samsung because of their terrible software and bloat. I don't buy LGs because of their bootlooping, and now I won't buy Huawei because of their piss poor support.
It's not about finding the "perfect phone" it's about finding a company that cares at least a little bit in fixing their bugs and meeting their commitments.
Which Huawei clearly isn't doing.
Hii @SolarisSixth
Well, it is your opinion for this phone and I do respect it..
But for me I am not bothered so much by some of the bugs.. And I have them too..
And what I would say to you as an advice from my own experiance becouse I had a lots of phones
like LG or Samsung or Sony or iPhone it is always the same story
Belive me always they say bad or week support I wont buy it again..
So you will have to choose your next phone wisely not to end disappointed again in the same way..
Do a lot of reading about your next phone couse otherwise you will end up again disappointed
Why
Couse it is by all of them the same way and the same treatment
The only thing what I know is for the very most expensive phones ( Flagships ) they get a bit more
treatment and a faster treatment couse it is the best company gives to the customers and it is
the phone that represents the company as the best one they have for that year.. and then you get
a bit better support for bugs and stuff.. couse they dont want to be bad by giving the most expensive one
wich should represent the best face of the company
So if money is not an issue for you and you already choose with your wallet then go for the
most expensive one and still if you get such a phone still be happy with what you get..

However, kernel source release, which Honor tells us will happen in the near future for the Honor 8

 There is a broad definition about "near future". Also, legally they HAVE to share kernel source, but who cares about the law anyway?
I have also a Honor 7. They stop supporting roughly 1 year after release. No source code, no Nougat update. I thought they improved something, but apparently no. What a sucker!
It's up to anyone to deal in whatever manner they see fit with Huawei/Honor false promises. What is not debatable is if it's fair to demand for those promises being kept.
I'm not expecting anything besides what the brand promised. And for that I cannot be pointed as being over-demanding or wanting the impossible.
I was afraid of ZTE Axon support but apparently they lead the game, a long with OP and Sony. And given the lottery regarding quality of components Huawei P10, it's just all a big red flag not to spend a cent with the brand.
For now, I will keep the H8 and milk it as much as I can, until I see fit to change. For another brand, obviously.
So here I am to report it back to all of you
This maybe some good news afterall..maybe
It is regarding the partnership with XDA and to give the source code to us.

Well, i bought this phone at the end of March, this year. I bought it for 329€ on Amazon, and for that price at this specs i think it'a a very good phone, also considering that other similar phones costs even double this price sometimes. Afrer this i tried the phone and i just love it now. Fast, superb fingerprint sensor, good camera, good in gaming etc. The only thing i complain for is the GPU, could be better... However, talking about the software and updates, i think that we will get at least 7.1.1 (if Honor respect their promises). I'm not just talking however, i got in touch with Honor USA on Twitter and that's what they told me:
http://imgur.com/a/OSmLv Screen 1
http://imgur.com/a/RBBFb Screen 2
Ps. The first screen is from a pic that i saw on internet, related to another conversation with Honor USA (not mine). I just sent them this pic and tried to get a confirm from them...wich in the 50% maybe they gave me. Now i don't know if they will relase Android 7.1.1 with EMUI 5.1 someday, but i hope to see it. No hopes for Android O however...
What do you think?
Hii @Giuskiller
I think it will be supported
Just read the link in the post above yours..
I got a private message about the partnership with XDA
And the promise to support our phone with source code and more
Just read it in the link

What's your ETA for the Android O update?

So, a few sources say that our devices will receive the Android O update very soon and to pass the time, why not share our expected or assumed OTA roll-out dates? I think that we will receive the update by the end of this month. What about you?
Agreed. I think they will probably release a rollback package or something like that with the original firmware to go along with it (7.0).

It's ironic how you say this topic is irrelevant when you only reply with, "it's coming" which indicates absolutely nothing. This is a thread for everyone's expected ETA as the official rollout date is still unannounced. On another note, hopefully I won't deal with dense users like I did on the Le 2 forums, shudders.

From everything that I've read and taking Honor's past into consideration I think we may have to wait until March, which makes little to sense to me.
Why isn't Honor putting a little more effort into marketing this device? I've bought a half a dozen so far, primarily for friends that were still using phones from 3-5 years ago. They all love it and of course, coming from older devices, they feel like this device is a flagship!
Only real thing I miss is NFC, but my watch has it. 2.4 GHz is what I use for everything but my video streaming devices. I really could care less it still has a MicroUSB port.

Your Comments Caught My Eye...
You seem to be a very Nice and Thoughtful friend.. To purchased not only 1 of these devices for yourself.. but to gift over $1,200.00 U.S.D. / 985 EURO's to friends to update their devices.. is truly a friend indeed :good:
Since you are obviously a man of means... what brought you to this budget device in the Honor 7X ?
It's certainly not the fastest..
Or.. has the best display...
Or.. the most RAM..
Why not the View 10, Huawei Mate 10 Pro, One Plus 5T, Pixel, S8, Note 8 ???
What brought a man of your means to the Honor 7X.. I'm really curious to know if you don't mind sharing..
As a software developer I own a plethora of devices and usually carry a minimum of 2 devices. Generally I am very conscious of the condition of my devices and despite the fact the majority of them never leave an office environment, they are all plastered in screen protectors and cases, it seems like they become more fragile every year. The S8 has been my secondary to my Pixel XL 2 since I got it, but as soon as I received the Honor 7X I put the S8 in the drawer. The 7X runs naked and I'm not worried about dropping it. It has enough of what I need. I run package Disabler and remove most of EMUI and Huawei's bloat, with Pixel launcher installed, I have a very close to stock Android on a rugged unit that's as tough as a 90s Nokia!
