Samsung Keyboard - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

Hey All,
New to the forums, just recently got my Note 8, so far love it. I have an issue, over the night it seems my keyboard alternate key's have changed locations. I didn't mess with any settings and for the life of me I can't seem to revert it back.
Is this something Samsung may have changed in an update or is this possibly something I changed inadvertently? The only thing I can see that's different, there's a new "World" button between the space bar and period to swap languages from Chinese to English (Which wasn't there before). Space bar is way narrower
For example my question mark has moved from the "M" key to the "Q" key, it's not a HUGE issue I just really liked the locations before and I'm annoyed how it's changed.
I was suggested to just change to Gboard but not a fan of that either.
Thanks in Advance

Looking for that old keyboard

Hi everyone, I just got my brand new Jade, and I'm happy and satisfied with it: faster and more stable than my old Elf, I've got nothing more to ask.
Well, maybe one thing.. I miss my old keyboard.. the one I attached to this thread.
In fact, having the question and exclamation mark, and the the at, without switching pages, spared me some time.. it was fast and light.
Is there any way I can have it onto my Jade?
Cheers everyone

the times they're a changin'
Press keyboard icon (at Bottom Bar) - select "Other Input Methods" - Keyboard.
Not that easy, I would have figured that out..
the keyboard found in "Other Input Methods" looks alike the one I've seen on the Touch HD, it's bigger, it has an "iphone layout" (letters become bigger when selected and you can move your selection around the keyboard) and special characters (as well as question and exclamation marks) come in pages .. too bad I do not have a screen for that!
Could it be that the keyboard I'm looking for can be 'imported' from my Elf?
Edit: I've found in another thread the keyboard I meant that comes with the 3G, and that I'd like to change; here it is
Well, on mine I have both the keyboad layouts that you posted.

Click the small up arrow next to the keyboard icon at the bottom of the screen.
Select 'Keyboard' at the bottom of the Settings Panel (below Full QWERTY).
Now go Start -> Settings -> Input and select 'Large Keys'.
Thanks Jademan, but that was the one I am already using.. I am gong to post you both keyboars so we can spot the differences.
Yet while I'm writing a doubt attacks me..
Could it be that the keyboard on the Elf (the one I like most) comes with the english language, while the one I have on the Jade comes with the italian language? Well, since in the Jade's one stressed letters are displayed, and right where the buttons I'd like to have should be, it could be reasonable..
....... so I just changed language, but nothing happenes, still the stressed vowels.
Damn ...
Edit: double post

Yes, that's the problem, the MS keyboard on your Jade is Italian and uses the @ and & keys for different symbols. I think you may need to do some registry editing to get the keyboard up you want.

touch HD keyboard. yes. i read the forum rules

Hello everyone!
Just a quick question. I have had to start a new thread as no one seems to be answering on the other threads.
I have the HTC touch HD. Now i got a registry editor last night solely to see if i could change the scanning frequencies that it uses to see if i could get it to lock onto a particular usa 3g band.
However in the process i see that when im typing a message now the keyboard (The HTC full qwerty one) now doesnt show the menu with the numbers running along the top and the most common symbols when i press the abc key to enter just numbers or symbols. I now have to press and hold the relative key so that they little grey version can be used.
This is frustrating me as i love this keyboard and i want it the way it was. restoring the registry has had no effect.
Any assistance rendered would be really useful.
Many thanks
Thats what you get for messing with registry
Only thing i can think of is a Hard Reset.
I am not sure how you made the "number" input keyboard missing with the Regedit. But as far as I know if you've installed one of the HTC hotfixes namely BLAS00369 Office Mobile Enhancement, it will make the number input keyboard missing. Once installed that hotfix you will no longer be able to fix the problem except a HARD reset. As my advice goes, do NOT install that particular hotfix upon your re-installation then you are OK. Let me know if this solves your problem.
have you tried installing another keyboard and switching back and forth to see if that helps?
*UPDATE*
Thanks for the help all. yes i had used the hotfix and i then saw that my problem was the exact same one that other users had experienced. upon navigating to the correct threads i saw the relevant solutions. I installed the suggested keyboards and removed them. then it all started working again. Stupid hotfix....
thanks very much

[Q] Regarding keyboard auto-input and correcting

Hello all,
I've searched through the G2 forums and this one but couldn't find the fix I was hoping for.
On my G1, whenever I typed two spaces after a word it automatically put in a period. I liked that. My DZ also does that. Good stuff.
However, when I forgot to capitalize the letter 'i' in a sentence it would magically change it to a capital on my G1, the DZ doesn't do that and needs two keystrokes.
Can I change a setting somewhere? All I have is Prediction in my menu, and I don't like to use that as it created more work for me than it was worth.
Perhaps using the HTC IME from the G1 ROM?
I sure did like that keyboard layout on the G1 (and it's prediction), too bad we lost the top keyboard row of dedicated numbers; it now takes me twice as long to bang out my epithets.

I have turned on the predictive txt, then added I'm to the dictionary. Then when you type im, even though the green highlighted word still shows "im", it will insert it as I'm.
Hope it works for you and isn't a fluke for me, I'll be well annoyed if I have to keep adding it. Fingers crossed.
Hey ddotpatel!
You were on to something there, and it made me dig...
I prefer to not have the predictive text turned on as I'm worried that it slows down my phone...
I found that in Settings, Language & Keyboard, Touch Input, International Keyboard the Français(Canadian) keyboard was also checked.
Unchecking Français(Canadian) reverted my keyboard to the input I came to know and love on my G1.
The standalone letter 'i' now capitalizes in mid-sentence, and 'im' now converts to 'I'm' after the space key, exactly the way I wanted it.
I guess Bell (Canada) sells these units all across the country and has one default setting to satisfy both official languages.
Thanks for the suggestion.

[Q] Strange keyboard behavior after firmware update

Hi!
My TF101 did its firmware update recently, and I noticed this afternoon that I can't use the QWERTZ layout for my keyboard (QWERTZ keyboard, BTW). I didn't have the problem before.
Everywhere in the settings, all keyboards (asus keyboard, dock keyboard) are set to French-swiss (that's the QWERTZ layout), and the dock is acting like a QWERTY. I rebooted, and search the forum, I discovered some had this problem in may 2011, but I haven't been able to find the thread answering the problem.
I don't know what to do, it's a real problem. I don't mind using any keyboard, even one with completely blank keys, as long as it acts like a QWERTZ. But a QWERTY is a real problem, I don't have the accentuated letters and the ç. (ç is ok, I don't really care, it's not that used, but the é,à,è, ^, etc. are used all the time).
What should I do ? Before the update, there wasn't any problem.
Thanks for your suggestions !
Edit : actually, I got my keyboard back by selecting as default input mode the asus keyboard. Normally, it switched automatically when the dock is connected, but apparently the update changed that. Anyway, I'm still interested in why such a hassle is necessary to remap dock keyboard when it should be doable in the parameters. Or there is something I haven't really understood ? I'd really like to know, I'm interested in these kinds of stuff. Moreover, I need to remap my Vaio P keyboard for the instant mode as no qwertz keyboard exists, but it's a proprietary system, so I guess I'll probably never be able to remap it...

On Nougat - how can I add a row of number to the keypad?

I've come from a Samsung which had a row of numbers above the qwerty keyboard which I found really helpful/convenient.
I googled how to do this for my Nexus 6p, on Nougat 7.0 and I can't find any obvious way in preferences or in the keyboard itself. Am I missing something or do I need to download a different keyboard?
Thanks once again for the help everyone.

I use swift key and I know they have it, not sure about the others, sorry.
Long press the comma in the Google keyboard, and tap the Settings gear. Select Preferences--> Custom input styles, then tap the + icon. Choose your Language, and for Layout select PC.
thanks to both of you
I'm trying out the PC layout. a bit crampt so might look at swift key.
thanks!
Before I was on Nougat MM google keyboard would give you a dedicated number row when entering a password. It was only when the cursor was in a password field. I thought that was odd, had never seen that before on a google keyboard. But that just means the keyboard has the functionality to have a dedicated number row and NOT be in the PC layout. I'm surprised that some dev hasn't figured out a way to have that row at all times.
