On my old Nexus 6P with Google Fi, T-Mobile's VoLTE never worked. I just got a Pixel 2 and it actually works! I didn't think it would ever be a thing with Google Fi being an MVNO. I've now made several phone calls and it never switched off LTE. The calls went through and had excellent quality. And I had LTE data available during the call to surf the web, etc. None of this worked on my 6P. It would switch to 3G, and I'd have no data.
Are you sure you're on VoLTE and not just connected to T-Mo? On T-Mo you can do simultaneous voice and data. When connected to Sprint's CDMA network it isn't possible and you lose data. I'm certainly not trying to discredit you and it's awesome if it is doing VoLTE, but it could be a difference between being on Sprint vs T-Mo.
How can you tell it's VoLTE though? I'm pretty much locked to TMo, using FiSwitch, and I have always been able to use LTE in a call, through N6P to Pixel to Pixel 2 now.

Anybody got it with tmo? Im planning to buy one, I dont use volte, can i still have 4G or LTE? Can i still use regular calls? How is the band 12 works anyways?
Band 12 is just another band at a different frequency. 700Mhz. Penetrates buldings better, does not affect functionality at all. VoLTE works. 4G works. Regular calls work. It will be fantastic on TMo. Even better once band 12 is approved and if it's available in your area.
In short and to the point. Band 12 being available for you or not will not affect any phone feature at all if you currently get great LTE coverage. Get one!
Thank you for the info
On reddit AMA, a google rep said band 12 would be functioning by ship date. Seeing as the 6P has been shipping has anyone been able to confirm band 12 support?
My 6P has been working perfectly on T-Mobile with WiFi Calling and VoLTE. However MMS is slow to send/receive. Like 10-15 min slow (the MMS will send normally, like 10 seconds but the recipient will not receive for the delayed time).

I can confirm b12 is NOT working. Though VoLTE and Wifi calling handoff work perfectly. Sounds excellent with you're talking someone with HD calling compatible.
They have 12/VoLTE working on Fi already which bodes well for them being well along toward getting VoLTE lit up on Tmo so 12 can be enabled there.

Interesting. I've heard that project fi does not use VoLTE on either T-Mobile or Sprint. Several people have mentioned that the phone drops out of LTE when making calls.
I'm going on a screenshot posted over on AC, maybe one of the fi boys will read this and clear it up.
This link was posted by another user, seems to clarify things slightly: http://forums.androidcentral.com/nexus-6p/600054-t-mobile-band-12-supported-project-fi.html
Band 12 is not activated on Fi or T-Mobile yet. I live in a band 12 only area. Its a disappointment to not get lte right now lol
and they said they will have it before they start shipping the phones smh
It will come. I'm good for now with wifi calling and my home WiFi. But I'd like it for when I'm traveling
Would there be any way to mod it enabled for T-Mobile?
Can anyone comment whether or not WiFi calling works with phone calls/SMS/MMS? Please verify that it works with all of those, both receiving and sending, in particular MMS because this has been an issue with past phones. Thanks!
WiFi calling works for all of those.
I have a love/hate relationship with Verizon . My Note 3 is soon to be long in the tooth when marshmallow is more imperative than it is now, i'll likely buy a 6P. So , I am planning for a few months in the future. I l,ike the idea of buying a 6P to see if the stronger radio end my problems with verizon at home-- and if not i will move to t-moble or Fi.
1. are there any major advances hi tech verizon service that do not easily function on the 6p?
2. t-mobile's band 12, wifi calling and hi def will they are ultimately work well on the 6p?
when everything is a fixed as it will get, i will figure out what to do
i would appreciate thoughts and suggestion from those more knowledgeable then i am.
I'm currently on T-Mobile and band 12, WiFi calling, and HD voice all work on my Nexus 6P after the most recent 6.0.1 update. I can't comment on Verizon though since I'm not on that network.
I'm on verizon. I don't use visual voicemail, but I've read that people have had trouble with it. So if you use it, you might want to look into that. Otherwise, VOLTE (having LTE active while on a call) works great. I used to have a Note 3 and hated the signal strength that i had. With the 6p, signal's been great. I used to switch to 3g all the time at work and even at home sometimes. With the 6p, i've not had a single instance of it switching to 3g.

I have been using the 6P on Verizon for over a month now. Below are my thoughts:
1) Visual voicemail does not work, but you can use youmail or Google Voice without issues.
2) Signal has been outstanding. I came from the 6s plus which would drop to 3G all the time. This has not been an issue on the 6P.
3) VoLTE works flawlessly.

I have a iPhone 6 Plus for work, also on Verizon. My 6p has been much better for signal strength.
Thanks.......

I have both a Verizon and T-Mobile SIM that I swap between my 6P and have no problems. I get band 13 and 4 on Verizon and bands 2, 4, and 12 on T-Mobile. I easily get around 100Mbps on both carriers. I don't use WiFi calling however.
does wifi calling on t-moble work with:
-t-mobile; or
-project Fi
----------------------------------
do t-mobile advanced features and band 12 work with project Fi?
i travel by car from miami, fl to orlando
-verizon has good coverage in the rural ares
-does t-mobile or project Fi have good coverage from pt st lucie to south of orlando eg yee haw junction[this is a real town]???
So far I have been using T-mobile and it has been outstanding (Actually T-mobile is better than AT&T's coverage) and when it hits, it switches to a different network with the roaming stuff. For the voicemail, there is an excellent app called youmail, which is better than the normal voice mail because you can customize a lot of stuff in it.
I understand that volte is not supported on the 6p when it comes to using at&t.
How is the quality of calls when it comes to being dropped to 3g or h+? Right now I have T-Mobile and I like them but their coverage is struggle in my area especially at work and I'm extremely thinking about switching to at&t. The only thing holding me back is volte which sucks. I dont care much about wifi calling as I don't even use it currently with T-Mobile. Can you at least surf the web while on a call? Obviously not over LTE but over 3g/h± ? Thanks
1. Calls are no different in quality for me. I had a AT&T branded note 4 with volte.
2. Yes i can surf the web while on a phone call on 3g/H/H+. The only ones that can't are cdma carriers. Verizon/sprint and any of their mvno's.

I'm not sure about how it works on at&t but on Verizon volte works great. I can be on a phone call and surf the web over LTE. If you're not in a good service area it can be annoying because it will drop calls when you lose LTE service and go to 3g and obviously volte doesn't work on 3g. I live in a major city so this really isn't an issue for me for the most part.
I also came from a ATT branded Note 4 on ATT. VOLTE stopped the second the 6p booted with the ATT SImcard. I had no issues with non-volte voice quality, And Voice+data has always worked with ATT's GSM network. I did end up switching to Verizon simply for VOLTE. Along with the other VOLTE features. Like the faster dialing..etc.

You swapped to VZW just for VoLTE?

Honestly, It was the faster dialing. (From the time you hit dial to the time it's actually ringing)
I'm an engineer for an Internet/Phone provider. And do a lot of test dials from my cell phone. Waiting ~10 seconds for the call to actually reach 180 progress was bugging me. ATT's HD voice switch did the same call in ~1sec, Just as VZW does. Sounds petty, I know. But it was driving me crazy.
So anyone know how to enable wifi calling and hd voice using 6P on AT&T?
Has there been a determination as to whether the v20 has Simultaneous voice and data capability? I still waiting patiently (not) for delivery of my v20.

I agree, my carrier is Sprint. With my old device a note 3 it has dual antennas making simultaneous voice and data possible on 4g lte. Now with Sprint Spark it not possible with a single antenna device. Do you know by chance if the v20 is a dual antenna device?
Not sure about the single sim version, might work on the dual sim one, at least I can have 4G+3G or 3G+3G simultaneous
Works will AT&T. I know for a fact, just used both Simultaneous an hour ago
Tmo and att have volte for sure
Any GSM carrier will be able to do voice and data at the same time. It's the CDMA carriers that will be up in the air if they will be able to or not.
I can confirm the Verizon V20 does voice & data at the same time due to the voice over LTE. I haven't had that functionality since the HTC Thunderbolt when 4G first came out years ago
I've been running the V20 for 8 days now and LOVE it. Now if only we can find a way to exploit the locked bootloader.
Do you mean VoLTE?

The Verizon model has video calling so it has data and voice at same time.

My VZ LG v20 does NOT have voice and data at same time.
Go into advanced calling and turn that on it'll give it to you then

That's the sole reason why I left Sprint

All Verizon lg v20 have voice and data at the same time. You can be on a phone call with LTE speeds.
I had sprint years back and hated them because my music streaming would stop and load. Then, another spotty sprint area, my music would stop again and load. Hated that.

has anyone with a sprint v20 been able to verify if this does work? my sprint note 4 does not have this, but my previous Sprint S4 did have it. I am hoping the Sprint v20 has it.
Thanks,
JD
Until they introduce VoLTE on Sprint no Sprint phone that has all of the LTE bands in it will be able to do simultaneous voice and data and VoLTE is not a priority for Sprint right now. So you either gotta move back to something like the Note 3 and get less LTE coverage or leave Sprint to get what you want.

Mine does, but only when connected in 4G. And I believe advanced calling needs to be activated for it to work.
To echo above, the simultaneous works fine on the V20, even stock out of the box with no changes, but you have to be in a 4G LTE area to do it. If you drop to 3G, you lose that ability. Pretty sure it was the Thunderbolt that last had the option to do both in a 3G area , as was mentioned earlier. Only thing that I haven't tested, is switching. And by that, I mean, if you're in a 3G area on a call, and enter a 4G LTE coverage, if it'll pick that up while within the call, or if you have to hang up before it will switch over. My S6 wouldn't do it, and I really don't expect the V20 to either. Probably something with how the data is "turned off" in a manner when the call is made, so it probably isn't even actively hunting for a data signal until the call is over. I live in an area where I bounce between nothing, 3G, and 4G on my way to work, so I always had to make sure to toggle airplane mode off and on if I was just coming out of a spot where I was still picking up 3G but knew there was 4G there, so the phone would grab the better signal coming in, and then make my phone call to keep the data. So far, the V20 seems to be a touch quicker than my S6 was in the 3G/4G switchover though.
I have ATT. Earlier this year I noticed that my service was pretty bad. At home I would not get service and if I did, it would go on/off. My wife has the Note 5 and she does not have that problem. At the time I had the LeeCo Le Pro 3 phone. I thought it was the phone because I dropped it a few times. So when the OP5 came out, I bought it on the first day. When I got it, I noticed that the problem was still there. I called att and the rep said it was because they turned off the 2g signal at the beginning of the year and the 3g/4g in my area was poor. The reason my wife's Note 5 don't have this issue was because her phone supports wifi calling and mine didn't. The only way to get a new phone.
So is there a way to test to see how good my reception is on the phone compared to my wife's phone?
The OnePlus 5 also supports WiFi calling. At least on T-Mobile, I have no problems. The options are in the SIM settings.
To test cell reception, you can download an app on the play store on both phones to give you a number. Just search "cell reception" or "signal strength". I have not personally use any app.
Try LTE Discovery on both phones.

Can you help me figure out what it means?
OP5 :
LTE : N/A
HSPA+: -130.0 dBm
Att Note 5
LTE: -118.0 dBm
GSM: -113.0 dBm
Pretty much what the AT&T rep said. - 130dBm is a completely unusable 3G (HSPA) signal. The Note 5 has a barely adequate LTE signal, and the 2G (GSM) signal is very poor too.
In general, signals below - 115dBm or so will lead to dropped/choppy calls. The Note 5 might have a slightly better antenna (allowing for the weak LTE signal), but it's still very poor.
Unfortunately, I believe AT&T is similar to the Canadian carriers I use, in that VoLTE or WiFi calling is only available for some of the devices they sell. Sadly this doesn't help your case as you'd probably need Wi-Fi calling to have reliable service where you are
Sent from my ONEPLUS A5000 using Tapatalk
I had the same problem with Cricket (which uses the AT&T network). I wouldn't be able to make or receive calls in half the rooms in my apartment. I switched to Project Fi and then when I got the OnePlus to MintSim (which uses the T-Mobile network). WiFi calling does work on this phone with MintSim/TMobile although the cell signal is also very strong. You probably don't have any good options that involve staying on AT&T. If you have a contract and can't switch then you would need a phone that supports WiFi calling for AT&T.
