Anybody got it with tmo? Im planning to buy one, I dont use volte, can i still have 4G or LTE? Can i still use regular calls? How is the band 12 works anyways?
Band 12 is just another band at a different frequency. 700Mhz. Penetrates buldings better, does not affect functionality at all. VoLTE works. 4G works. Regular calls work. It will be fantastic on TMo. Even better once band 12 is approved and if it's available in your area.
In short and to the point. Band 12 being available for you or not will not affect any phone feature at all if you currently get great LTE coverage. Get one!
Thank you for the info
On reddit AMA, a google rep said band 12 would be functioning by ship date. Seeing as the 6P has been shipping has anyone been able to confirm band 12 support?
My 6P has been working perfectly on T-Mobile with WiFi Calling and VoLTE. However MMS is slow to send/receive. Like 10-15 min slow (the MMS will send normally, like 10 seconds but the recipient will not receive for the delayed time).
Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
I can confirm b12 is NOT working. Though VoLTE and Wifi calling handoff work perfectly. Sounds excellent with you're talking someone with HD calling compatible.
They have 12/VoLTE working on Fi already which bodes well for them being well along toward getting VoLTE lit up on Tmo so 12 can be enabled there.

Interesting. I've heard that project fi does not use VoLTE on either T-Mobile or Sprint. Several people have mentioned that the phone drops out of LTE when making calls.
I'm going on a screenshot posted over on AC, maybe one of the fi boys will read this and clear it up.
This link was posted by another user, seems to clarify things slightly: http://forums.androidcentral.com/nexus-6p/600054-t-mobile-band-12-supported-project-fi.html
Band 12 is not activated on Fi or T-Mobile yet. I live in a band 12 only area. Its a disappointment to not get lte right now lol
and they said they will have it before they start shipping the phones smh
It will come. I'm good for now with wifi calling and my home WiFi. But I'd like it for when I'm traveling
Would there be any way to mod it enabled for T-Mobile?
Can anyone comment whether or not WiFi calling works with phone calls/SMS/MMS? Please verify that it works with all of those, both receiving and sending, in particular MMS because this has been an issue with past phones. Thanks!
WiFi calling works for all of those.

Will the 6p get WiFi calling from T-Mobile? I've heard yes and no maybe someone will have a better answer
WiFi calling was confirmed by T-Mobile.
VoLTE on the other hand is still up in the air. At the moment, no. It wasn't certified. However T-Mobile said that they were working with Google to get it certified before it ships. Which would be fantastic, because if it gets certified for VoLTE, LTE band 12 will be activated, for better coverage.

i sure hope so tmobile is spotty enough for me as it is, wifi calling is pretty big for me and volte is also. keeping my fingers crossed. took forever for them to get with the nexus 6
Assuming everyone knows the answer to this by now, but Des at T-Mobile confirmed on twitter that Wifi calling is working out of the box. https://twitter.com/askdes/status/648936588148371456
Looks like T-Mobile volte is working on the 6p according to the member daboyal006 with a 64gb obe...see his General section thread.
Just read the thread you mentioned. The OP was never able to verify if the phone was on Band 12. VoLTE works on Band 2 and Band 4 with T-mobile on the 6P, but Band 12 is still unconfirmed.

It's awesome in places you don't have great cell service you can make calls over WiFi.
My old apartment didn't have service but I had internet so it was the only means I had to make calls. It's pretty self explanatory if you don't need it its not gonna make any difference to you.

I suppose it's possible in certain areas that band 12 may be the only LTE available. In that case I would say you need it.

People like myself would benefit from it, I don't have at home wifi and I pretty much use hotspot for everything. I use about 100 gigs a month with the T-Mobile $80 plan and the service in my house is not so great. As soon as I step outside though.. that's a different story. Most of the time I set my phone next to a window or something to even get decent service. But that's such a hassle. It would be nice to have a strong LTE signal inside my house. Definitely make my life a lot easier.. haha

Lol netflix and youtube adds up. You're not suppose to be able to tether more than I think 15 gigs with the $80 plan
but for some reason whenever I stream youtube or netflix or even play online on my PS4 it just counts as my regular data.
And even sometimes when I use the hotspot on my computer it doesn't actually count towards it. I think it might be because I use chrome.
But in my opinion why pay extra for home internet when I could have all in one with my phone.
I work in a cave. I rely on wifi calling. This was a huge letdown last year with the nexus 6. And I don't think band 12 will ever get me service in the caves. Ha
At least it came to the N6. Took them 4-5 months longer than they anticipated, but hey it laid the framework for the 6P to have it baked in.

With the 5X WiFi calling and VoLTE worked out of the box. Band 12 does not work yet but given the hardware supports it I imagine it will only require a software update one T-Mobile finishes the certification process.

Mine arrives tomorrow. I'm not in a band 12 area. Is there any way to confirm otherwise?
Is WiFi calling supposed to work on the prepaid 5gb plan. If I activate the option it shows WiFi calling in quick settings but I can't make calls or texts.
Just wanted to share my experience with the new Radio on 6.0.1 so far it is much better.
1) band 12 active
2) better signal switch even when band 12 is not there it now could lock on to edge or other. I get signal now inside basement where I get nothing before
3) I noticed that the phone also dynamic switch to wifi calling now when it got nothing. It did not do this before
So far so good

I don't know about VoLTE but I had HD Voice today
Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
Volte and HD voice worked on 6.0. I thought that was the norm? It works as well on 6.0.1
Yeah, VOLTE and HD Voice were working from the beginning.
The only thing I have noticed is that my phone seems to take longer to grab signal when I reboot. It shows full signal bars as soon as it turns on but does not connect to data for about 10 seconds. This was instantaneous before so I'm not sure what happened.
Update sometime for the wifi calling to lock on, I still have to restart the phone at time. This aspect still need improvement

I agree I think it's better than 6.0 radio. It's more reliable and consistent specifically when going through dead-ish cell zones.
I've also noticed that it waits till the very last second to switch to b12 whereas the original radio that was reflashed would swap between band 4 and band 12 very often. It now seems to wait to about -110-115 dbm to switch
I've had great luck with t-mobile service in the Minneapolis, MN area. We have very strong TMO coverage in the cities so I wasn't too worried about it, however it gets slightly better service than my iPhone 5s did (loaned until i could buy the 5X, since i had just switched from Verizon).
radio on 6.0.1 is great for me. Generally where my parents is, there is zero reception with t-mobile; this is true when if first got the nexus 5x running 6.0. To my surprise after I upgraded the OS, and was over at my parents this weekend, I see the signal bar being 3/4 full with the LTE logo and I was able to use data on it, where as before I wouldn't even dream of making a voice calls
I'm in band 12 Area Tampa using latest build, with LTE Discovery, locks on band 12 but when call is placed it will switch to band 4. So no go on VOLTE Calling for the nexus 5X. Maybe there's a certification process that I'm missing.

I sold my Nexus 5x, but I do have Blackberry PRIV and use it with T-Mobile. In some locations, I do see when device is on Band 12 and placing a call, it switches to Band 4. In other locations it stays on Band 12 when call is initiated.

VOLTE works, or else TM wouldn't have approved B12 for the 5x. Otherwise, in cases where there is only B12, you wouldn't be able to place calls, which is what TM won't allow. The fact that it switches to B4 during a call doesn't mean it doesn't have VOLTE.
Just before call connection is where is switches and I can actually tell the dif between HD calls. B12 works great for data, just not voice. I'm testing it against a T-Mobile note 4, a grad prime and a 6plus. Tried diff APN. No luck
I have a love/hate relationship with Verizon . My Note 3 is soon to be long in the tooth when marshmallow is more imperative than it is now, i'll likely buy a 6P. So , I am planning for a few months in the future. I l,ike the idea of buying a 6P to see if the stronger radio end my problems with verizon at home-- and if not i will move to t-moble or Fi.
1. are there any major advances hi tech verizon service that do not easily function on the 6p?
2. t-mobile's band 12, wifi calling and hi def will they are ultimately work well on the 6p?
when everything is a fixed as it will get, i will figure out what to do
i would appreciate thoughts and suggestion from those more knowledgeable then i am.
I'm currently on T-Mobile and band 12, WiFi calling, and HD voice all work on my Nexus 6P after the most recent 6.0.1 update. I can't comment on Verizon though since I'm not on that network.
I'm on verizon. I don't use visual voicemail, but I've read that people have had trouble with it. So if you use it, you might want to look into that. Otherwise, VOLTE (having LTE active while on a call) works great. I used to have a Note 3 and hated the signal strength that i had. With the 6p, signal's been great. I used to switch to 3g all the time at work and even at home sometimes. With the 6p, i've not had a single instance of it switching to 3g.

I have been using the 6P on Verizon for over a month now. Below are my thoughts:
1) Visual voicemail does not work, but you can use youmail or Google Voice without issues.
2) Signal has been outstanding. I came from the 6s plus which would drop to 3G all the time. This has not been an issue on the 6P.
3) VoLTE works flawlessly.

I have a iPhone 6 Plus for work, also on Verizon. My 6p has been much better for signal strength.
Thanks.......

I have both a Verizon and T-Mobile SIM that I swap between my 6P and have no problems. I get band 13 and 4 on Verizon and bands 2, 4, and 12 on T-Mobile. I easily get around 100Mbps on both carriers. I don't use WiFi calling however.
does wifi calling on t-moble work with:
-t-mobile; or
-project Fi
----------------------------------
do t-mobile advanced features and band 12 work with project Fi?
i travel by car from miami, fl to orlando
-verizon has good coverage in the rural ares
-does t-mobile or project Fi have good coverage from pt st lucie to south of orlando eg yee haw junction[this is a real town]???
So far I have been using T-mobile and it has been outstanding (Actually T-mobile is better than AT&T's coverage) and when it hits, it switches to a different network with the roaming stuff. For the voicemail, there is an excellent app called youmail, which is better than the normal voice mail because you can customize a lot of stuff in it.
I understand that volte is not supported on the 6p when it comes to using at&t.
How is the quality of calls when it comes to being dropped to 3g or h+? Right now I have T-Mobile and I like them but their coverage is struggle in my area especially at work and I'm extremely thinking about switching to at&t. The only thing holding me back is volte which sucks. I dont care much about wifi calling as I don't even use it currently with T-Mobile. Can you at least surf the web while on a call? Obviously not over LTE but over 3g/h± ? Thanks
1. Calls are no different in quality for me. I had a AT&T branded note 4 with volte.
2. Yes i can surf the web while on a phone call on 3g/H/H+. The only ones that can't are cdma carriers. Verizon/sprint and any of their mvno's.

I'm not sure about how it works on at&t but on Verizon volte works great. I can be on a phone call and surf the web over LTE. If you're not in a good service area it can be annoying because it will drop calls when you lose LTE service and go to 3g and obviously volte doesn't work on 3g. I live in a major city so this really isn't an issue for me for the most part.
I also came from a ATT branded Note 4 on ATT. VOLTE stopped the second the 6p booted with the ATT SImcard. I had no issues with non-volte voice quality, And Voice+data has always worked with ATT's GSM network. I did end up switching to Verizon simply for VOLTE. Along with the other VOLTE features. Like the faster dialing..etc.

Honestly, It was the faster dialing. (From the time you hit dial to the time it's actually ringing)
I'm an engineer for an Internet/Phone provider. And do a lot of test dials from my cell phone. Waiting ~10 seconds for the call to actually reach 180 progress was bugging me. ATT's HD voice switch did the same call in ~1sec, Just as VZW does. Sounds petty, I know. But it was driving me crazy.
So anyone know how to enable wifi calling and hd voice using 6P on AT&T?
So maybe someone could give me some pointers. I recently switched to T-mobile and purchased an unlocked MOTO Z play. The battery life on that phone was amazing but I was getting zero reception in my office which is a major issue. So after talking with T-Mobile the tech guy told me my phone didn't support 700Mhz, 2100mhz and band 12. Now I might have some of that info confused, but his suggestion was to purchase a different device. SO I grabbed a V20. So far I like the phone, but the battery doesn't even compare to the Moto Z play, and I understand why. But my issue is, even with this phone I'm not getting better reception in my office. My only work around is wifi calling which this phone does have ( The Moto Z play does not have wifi calling for T-mobile, apparently T-mobile doesn't support wifi calling for phones they don't sell in their retail stores ).
Wifi Calling in my office is still hit more miss, but It works fine for receiving texts which is very important to me while at work. I'm in the Dayton, Ohio market and when I've searched for coverage maps showing band 12, I do see some kind of coverage in Dayton, but It's not clear if It's active or not. I guess this band 12 will make penetrating walls easier for office reception. So far, when I run Network Cell Info app, I never see band 12. Ever. Could someone shed some light on why I'm not picking this band up? When I go outside it's on band 4.. and I'm right downtown In Dayton near the Highway.
