Hey there, I am not very knowledgeable on making overlays. I haven't seen this request quite yet nor have I found anything like it. Is it possible to make an overlay that will produce a line like the one at the bottom of the iPhone X screen?
What line? Can you post a picture of what you're referring to? Thanks.

Sorry, here's what I'm talking about... http://drop.ndtv.com/TECH/product_database/images/913201720152AM_635_iphone_x.jpeg
look at the bottom of the screen
But.. why? If you want it solely for cosmetic purposes you have weird desires but I hope someone can help you. If you want it to use gestures for home, recents and stuff there are already apps for that.

I was thinking the same thing. Having the "line" at the bottom isn't going to do anything if it's just cosmetic.

I already have custom gestures mapped out and everything, I just wanted to see if it looked cool or not.

Because he likes the look of it? The same reason people wanted the pixel "search bar under the dock" thing. I don't see how liking something aesthetically is a weird desire. Or actually let me guess, it's weird because he thought something Apple looked good?

Because if its only for pure cosmetics that would hinder usability of the phone/ would decrease screen space and create a new opportunity for screen burn in. Other than that if it is a request for all the functionality it has on iphone X; I have nothing to add. The initial post wasn't clear about it as only statement was to acquire the line.
Edit: spelling

Not necessarily. People with big screens may find fixed search bar at the bottom useful. It has a purpose other that just being a cosmetic thing.

Lol so doesn't create an opportunity for screen burn in? I feel there's more to your argument, also you don't need it under the dock anymore than anywhere else.

Again that search bar has a purpose other than just being cosmetic and if you are into that kind of stuff you can achieve its convenience by taking the risk of screen burn-in. Same goes for op's request but as I said earlier risking burn in for just cosmetics is weird to me. Still, I don't judge and hope he/she can find something related to the request.

You are right. And I know there are a lot of people thinking same as you. My point was just about that line being more of a hindrance when it is just for looks and can get pretty boring and risky in time. But if it had the same function as iphone X even I may have installed it. Again I hope this question finds an answer.

Let's get a list of good constructive criticisms of our phone.
Here's mine / the obvious:
Data connection sometimes swaps between 3G/EDGE by simply putting your hand on the lower end of the phone http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x2g5J4qPp54
Soft buttons are often difficult to trigger. It seems the activation point is actually above the white icons, rather than exactly centered on them.
Having to press the power button at the top to wake up from sleep. (Post#3)
What else is there?
Remember, be constructive
Serious question... what's the point of this thread?

A) Information for people who are thinking of purchasing this phone so they know exactly what they're getting into.
B) Potentially solve issues other people are having with workarounds they may not be aware of.
C) Maybe Google sees this thread and fixes some stuff? Is that too wishful thinking?
Display: subpixels are arranged in a sort of Bayer pattern, making it difficult to read smaller fonts comparing to traditional RGB-layout WVGA displays.
Paul22000 you should add all the criticisms into the first post for easy reading.

lol no i'm serious, click the first link, it provides a good explanation.
The point is that all displays consist of R-G-B pixels (three sub-pixels), and in Nexus there are only two subpixels. R-G, then B-G, then again R-G, etc..

Ah yes. The table I put on the post is cut.
Hello everybody!
I like my Nexus One very much, but there's a big problem for me: the "grab around" annoyance - i.e., when you touch the very edge of the screen with your thumb, the touchscreen turns irresponsible or crazy.
Please, does anyone know some fix for this problem? Some ROM (my N1 is rooted) or app, anything? Please note that I'm not referring to the very known calibration problem, but to the very sensitive edge.
I'm just asking here because I've already searched on XDA and Google, and found no fix for this.
Thanks
And you will not find the fix for this. You sould get used with or try to be more gently with touching the edge...

I have this also....thought it was just me. The simple fix is to turn screen off and back on and it seems to act sensibly again.
Not ideal though.
There is no fix for this. I experience it too, just barely touch the edge and it goes nuts. I use a rubber case now anyway which solves the issue for me.
Thanks for the answers
Wiggz - the problem you must be referring is the calibration, that fixes going to sleep mode. The problem I talk about is the sensitive edge of the touchscreen, what Google doesn't even consider a bug - only in their heads...
I fixed this by using a silicone case - the phone gets veeery ugly, but that's a fix...
What could resolve this excluding a silicone case?
thanks
Off topic but the thread title makes it sound like you're getting hassled by gay guys. Just saying!
That's reach-around lmao
I've learned to hold the phone differently... haven't had this "problem" since the first month the phone came out.
Oh, and I've never used a case, probably never will either - this phone is way to slick to ruin with a case IMO.

I don't really consider it a bug either. If you're touching the touch screen, what do you think the phone should do differently? Especially considering the limitations of the N1's touch screen. With proper multi-touch I suppose the phone could decide to ignore stationary touches at the edges, but with the N1 that's not possible.
It is annoying. The phone needs more of an edge.
And if we could just turn multitouch off? I think this would not affect me so much.
Is there some way to do that?

Yep, even if possible the second touch i.e. where you actually want to press wouldn't register.
Multi-touch not being supported by the launcher is actually the cause of this, not the solution.

Ditto. And in addition - even having proper multi-touch unlike Nexus One, I believe it would still require quite complicated algorithms to know the difference between the accidental palm touch and the "true" finger touch - and so comes the question: is that thread about being unhappy with the slim size of the N1? Come on, really. If you want some extra edge - buy a case around it.
Well, thanks for all the answers. The only solution, then, is using a case.
At least, now I won't be searching again and again about this problem. I'll search only for a better case.

So if I get a third party launcher with multitouch I will be able to get around this problem? Basically launcher apps with the pinch to preview homescreen support multitouch, right?

No. First of all, because the N1 digitizer is crap so no software solution is technically possible for this phone. If you had a phone with proper multitouch then you could write some ugly, wonky hack that would sometimes be able to guess when you were accidentally touching the screen but it would probably cause more trouble then it would be worth. Basically the only solutions to this are to either get a case as has been suggested or use the iPhone 4 solution, i.e. don't hold it like that.
Hey
Im wondering if, because of the hinge, can I put the HTC Desire Z in front of me, while I look upwards at the ceiling with me seeing what on the screen...
A (bad ) drawing example is included.
Some sites say that it cant be done but they havent tried it as I havent read anything with personal expirence with this issue and this is pretty important to me. Thanks.
I guess i don't understand. Are you saying that some are saying you shouldn't do this for some reason?
I am able to, but I know others who aren't.
it helps that when I hold my phone to type on the physical keyboard, my index fingers naturally wrap around the screen, which holds it in place... but even if I intentionally move my index fingers so that there is nothing hindering the screen from moving by itself, it does stay up. if I give the phone a slight wiggle, it will pop down though.
again, I believe with these phones it just varies from device to device... the hinge threads I've read have been all over the place.

the accepted fix involves modifying the spring that opens/closes the hinge. there are several threads floating around with the process... note that it does void your warranty, however (you have to partially disassemble the phone). for me, the hinge hasn't been a huge nuisance anyway. yeah, it's loose... so what? you learn and adapt your "methods" to work around it as you use the phone. it has never caused a serious problem for me.
I would like to add that over time I have noticed it does loosen (noticably, but not so much that it has been a problem for me) more and more.. which makes sense because the spring is being compressed and relieved repeatedly.

Obviously, your needs arent the same as mine. You say "so what?" if the screen closes and Id like it to stay open.
Could you please post some links to those threads? Id like to see if the process is difficult.
Thanks
I rarely use the phone laying on my back, but when I do I move my hands a little bit higher on the keyboard and push my index fingers inwards toward each other slightly so that they are touching the device where the screen meets the keyboard. Holds it in place just fine, no need to modify the springs.

I think you misunderstood (I didn't word that very well - apologies). I'm not saying it's not an issue, it is an issue.
but, as I and a couple others have posted here, there is a remedy: positioning your index fingers such that they hold the screen if you are one of the unlucky ones who gets a hinge that is so sloppy that it falls at whim. on my G2, I don't even have to do this, but I do it naturally so it's added security that the screen isn't going to slam shut.
there's no such thing as a perfect phone. but as far as android phones with keyboards go, you're not going to do much better than the DZ/G2 at this point.. that is a fact.
here's a link to the best hinge fix thread I've gone through:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=863919
if you search "hinge" in the main G2/DZ subforum, you'll get a plethora of thread matches.

Intresting. Looks a bit complicated though but I guess Ill have to do it if I want to use the phone correctly the way I wanted.

Just as a update: I can use my phone perfectly without applying any fix about using it for about 3-4 months. There is no issue at all.

Those things hurt. Sharp little critters.
Hey, I Just got an evo used and now, I see little things in the screen like some widgets showing shades of purple and the backgrounds look a little pixilated. I have TEP for the device and I was wondering, If i were to take it into a sprint store to get the screen replaced (at least thats what i think it is) will they update it and lose my ability to root?
They would likely swap it out for a refurbished replacement which would likely have 2.3.3 on it.
If I were you I would just wait until 2.3.3 is rooted [can't be much longer], unless the problem is really that severe.
Thanks again matty, I was thinking about doing that. I mean, its just a phone...

Well I mean, it's just some dying/dead pixels.
If the phone is still 100% usable then there's no rush.
I would be surprised if root isn't available within the next two weeks.
No, its not dead pixels, it only happens on some widgets for some reason and on the top notification bar. Sometimes the screen goes all blueish, as if the color temperature changed from warm to cool... i think it might be a loose connection on the screen to the pcb because if i tap the phone, sometimes they dissapear, go away. I know what a broken pixel looks like, and its nothing like this...

Well then you could take it to the store and ask them to reconnect the cable and see if that fixes it and if not to not order you a replacement.

Just make a comment about how you don't want a replacement if it can't be fixed because you're going on vacation or something. lol
