You first need to unlock bootloader to be able to root manually. The following video may teach you quite few things. You're welcome.

So I noticed in the OTA file (JRN84D from JFN53N) that they included a new bootloader, and it's version 3.34. Does anyone know what the old bootloader version was for the JFN53N build?
Thanks!

I'm running unlocked, rooted stock version & the only info I can find for you is in the kernel version via Settings
3.1.10-g55edff4
Not sure if that helps or not

Thanks. To get the bootloader version, you'll need to reboot into the bootloader just like you did when you unlocked. I believe you power the device on, then press volume down very quickly when you see the Google logo appear. Once you are in bootloader mode, the version should appear on screen somewhere. I'd appreciate it very much if you could do that for me and report back. Thanks!

Hi. I'm considering rooting my Nexus 10 but have a few questions before I do so:
Can I do this without wiping my device?
Can I do this without unlocking my bootloader?
Will this affect any future Android updates?
Thanks.

You're wrong. He can use superboot, and he won't need to unlock the device, so he won't lose the data...

This is a video tutorial for my guide that can be found here, i felt it was best to make a new thread to keep the thread clean.

OK so i was looking around for a easy to use guide i could refer someone to and couldn't find one so i decided to create 1.
With this method you wont need to download the android SDK and instead can download a small package of files that i will upload. this saves around 1-2GB of bandwidth.
Firstly we should confirm your phone can be unlocked. To check if your phone can be rooted (most likely if it is not branded to 3, Vodafone etc then it can be)
Go to the phone dialer
Tap*#*#7378423#*#* then a service menu should pop up,
Tap Service info > Configuration > Rooting Status. if it says boot loader unlock allowed then you are good to go.
if it says not allowed or no then you will need to pay to have the boot loader unlocked.
Now we need to get your IMEI to do this type in the dialer *#06# another window will appear with your IMEI number write this down somewhere as you will need it later.
OK so now that you know your phone BL can be unlocked we will need to download and extract these files

If you have r800x it won't say anything because Verizon removed that from menu so people don't unlock but you can still unlock it with sonys website.

lol, you use fastboot to unlock it. hence why you need to download fastboot. unlocking it allows you to flash kernels and roms.

You have to install fastboot then: just download the ADT and install platform and platform-tools.
It will create a folder under C:\Programs\Android\AndroidSDK\platform-tools (don't remember id it's correct lol, it's been a while since I used fastboot lol).
There you'll find adb and fastboot (make sure you follow the instruction under Sony's development site to install drivers and unlock your bootloader).

sorry I should have been more clear. what i meant to say is phone wont boot into fastboot. all i get is flashmode and thats only for a few seconds then it auto boots
now im thinking i may be bricked all i get is the sony erriccson screen. I have a nandroid made but cannot boot recovery. accidentally installed the wrong rom not paying attention. Had one for unlocked bootloaders on sd card just to be ready and wasnt paying attention
Hi I have read the root guide but is there a bootloader unlock guide with PC commands or a PC app like there is on the one plus one xda page ?
I know its can only be done once and will wipe the system wish there was a YouTube video as well.
Here what I did unlocked my Nvidia Shield Pro. http://nvidiashieldzone.com/index.php/shield-android-tv/root-shield-android-tv/
Thank you for posting this info.
I had two Motorola's phone before, and none of them was necessary unlock bootloader to be root. That is the reason why I'm asking this.
Can someone explain me, please, If it's not possible. What is the reason?
Thanks.
NO!!!

Root without bootloader unlock requires 1 of 2 things.
1. A software/hardware exploit
2. An engineering boot image (a boot image that's signed but has relaxed permissions)

I believe this was the method here. It was done on the G4 and G5.
I try it, but its impossible
That is good news, I won't update then, when (if) there is a ota.
Hi. I have the moto g5 xt1670. I don't want the oreo ota, but the update screen is annoying. How can I stop it? Should I unlock BL-Root-freeze the app? Can I just root without touching the BL? Please help. Thanks
