OK so i was looking around for a easy to use guide i could refer someone to and couldn't find one so i decided to create 1.
With this method you wont need to download the android SDK and instead can download a small package of files that i will upload. this saves around 1-2GB of bandwidth.
Firstly we should confirm your phone can be unlocked. To check if your phone can be rooted (most likely if it is not branded to 3, Vodafone etc then it can be)
Go to the phone dialer
Tap*#*#7378423#*#* then a service menu should pop up,
Tap Service info > Configuration > Rooting Status. if it says boot loader unlock allowed then you are good to go.
if it says not allowed or no then you will need to pay to have the boot loader unlocked.
Now we need to get your IMEI to do this type in the dialer *#06# another window will appear with your IMEI number write this down somewhere as you will need it later.
OK so now that you know your phone BL can be unlocked we will need to download and extract these files

If you have r800x it won't say anything because Verizon removed that from menu so people don't unlock but you can still unlock it with sonys website.

You have to install fastboot then: just download the ADT and install platform and platform-tools.
It will create a folder under C:\Programs\Android\AndroidSDK\platform-tools (don't remember id it's correct lol, it's been a while since I used fastboot lol).
There you'll find adb and fastboot (make sure you follow the instruction under Sony's development site to install drivers and unlock your bootloader).

Bootloader unlock page under maintenance

I was planning to unlock my bootloader today. When I tried to open the Sony ericsson page, its showing the page is under maintenance. Are you guys getting the same response from the sever? Or did Sony completely stop the bootloader unlocking?

Same question here. I tried it since yesterday and that feature is under maintenance till now. I am planning to unlock R800i. Did Sony Ericsson stop the bootloader unlocking and if so, any alternative to unlock bootloader may I know? Thanks in advance.
Well, we will see. Hopefully its just a real maintenance, but maybe they are fixing the hole which the guys used to unlock cdma phones.
Let's hope it comes back to life soon!
Regards
I guess they're fixing CDMA keys hole. Looks like Verizon isn't happy about it.
But I don't understand why it takes so long to modify some small piece of code to disable MEID calculator.
Maybe you DDOSed them too much ?

Thanks guys.

succeeded, but with a little problem. Could any1 pls help me?
i followed Bin4ry's guide [How-to] Root your Play.
On the first try of flashing system with play_modded, i got some error message like android.process.acore & android.process.media has stopped unexpectedly, so I soft reset it to factory setting and flash system again and succeeded, with no error message.
But the problem is after the root process, my phone can't detect 3G network. The service provider I am using has two options, 2G and 3G, and phone can only detect 2G network.
Another problem is that although I can find WiFi networks and connect, WiFi connection is not working anymore (no data send/receive through WiFi).
If any of you know how to fix that 3G network & WiFi missing issues, kindly let me know. Thanks in advance.
One more, my rooted play is now on 3.0.A.2.184 build and when I connect it to computer, PC Companion said found new software update and ask me whether want to update or not. Rooting process will be overwritten and I will need to root it again if I update software (base 3.1.A....something I think) I would like to know.
Thank you again.
Regards,
edit : sorry if this post should be under Q & A section, please let me know and I'll open a new thread

For starters unlock ur bootloader again, as you need it to flash the kernel (which in my opinion is worth keeping), then go over to the developers sub forum, download the UK generic 4.0.whatever the rest of the code is firmware, flash it with flashtool, the go to doomlords thread and download his kernel. All instructions you need are in the relevant threads, easy to follow. I would link them, but I'm away from my computer at the moment. And I cant link from my phone. Sorry. Hope all goes well!

Unlock bootloader for a 11w41

Well today i was trying to install a custom rom to my friend's phone, i rooted the phone, installed CWM, and i tried to install CM7, but it gave me error, so i rebooted the phone, and it turned on normally, so i researched a little more and i saw that i had to unlock bootloader and update other things, i didnt know this because i have a galaxy 5 and you just have to root, install CWM and you are ready, so i tried to unlock boorloader to the x8, i executed msm7227 and there were some errors but at the end it said that everything was done, so i pressed a button from the phone, but nothing happened, so i tried to turn it on, but nothing happened, i pull off the battery and pull it on again but nothing, i tried everything so i realized it was hardbricked, now my friend is going to claim his warranty.
I told him that i never was going to touch his phone again xd, but maybe someday he will want me to install a custom rom on his phone, so my question is if there is someway to unlock bootloader, to a new phone, he may recieve a new one, so obviously is going to have a newer date, is there someway?
you have to install roms for STOCK kernel, no need to unlock bootloader, but i think its too late now lol.

Simple.
Flashtool = Safe but inflexible (in the name of safety they prevent you from unlocking BL with certain settings that sometimes really don't matter)
MSM7227_tool.exe is much more flexible, no restrictions, and IS AS SAFE as flashtool provided you read the guides properly and executed their instructions properly.
I might want to point out that Flashtool's BL unlock came directly from the MSM7227 BL unlock tools.

Er... I recommend you don't unlock BL, but if you must, Flashtool is less complicated to understand how to use, MSM tool is more flexible (doesn't force you to stock 2.1 before it unlocks BL ).
Both are basically one-click anyway.

Yeah, MSM will allow you to unlock regardless of os version, but Flashtool has some restrictions for safety's sake (though most are not needed).

yes there is a very easy way to do that you dont need to unlock your device for that. go to this link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2015467 , download the nexus 10 toolkit and install the drivers , enable debugging on your device, then select root unroot options , from there choose root + install busy box , then select superSU. and you are good to go , root without unlocking or any custom recovery.

I rooted my N10 some days ago with this tool and tried it without Unlocking. It did not work for me - app told me I have to unlock first before rooting. Just would like to know if I was just dumb or not ^^
Use this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2003938. It works for 100%. I did it already twice (once on 4.2.1 and then again on 4.2.2). Nexus is rooted, but lock is still there. Run *.bat file without unlocking - it works.
I dont want to doubt what you are writing but the OP from the topic says:
Note: If you are using a retail device, you may need to unlock the bootloader first, using './fastboot-windows oem unlock' (or the appropriate version for your machine, included in this zip). Note that the OEM unlock sequence wipes your device, so consider doing an 'adb backup' beforehand if required!

No, through Amazon from US. So in my opinion you always can try. In worse case if it requires unlock it doesn't root your Nexus.
I also read first post but in next part of thread users noticed that unlock is unnecessary. I tried it twice and works every time

After root, lock your Nexus by NRT.
this method worked for me
however it was a pain to get drivers working, i had to get universal naked drivers
one question, will future otas work?
Should work as long as you don't change system files (OTA checks hash codes of them).
I also used universal naked drivers.

[Tutorial] Relock Xperia Z bootloader

Good day my friends:laugh:
I will show you how to relock the bootloader of XZ
Flashtool version used: flashtool-0.9.10.2beta
Download the latest Flashtool ( found in OG android development forum)
Install the Flashtool drivers found in the drivers folder
Connect phone in Flash-mode (phone shut down, volume down + power)
Press the BLU button
Press the relock option
Put a stock .tft firmware in the Flashtool firmwares folder (this is required!!)
Flash the firmware (this is required!!)
Done
You will now have a locked stock xperia z
Extra info by Flashtool developer:
A litte explanation :about relocking / unlocking :
When relocking the device, I save the unlock code into custom\DEVICESERIAL\unlock.txt
If ever you relocked using another method than BLU from FT (with a custom ftf for example), then you must create this file by hand to be able to unlock the device again.
This file must contain the unlock code. One line only, no carriage return.
i am not responsible for bricked devices
can you link to the Flashtool version you are using just to save any confusion
is it no any problem after using this method to relock Xperia Z???

The OP describes more about relocking and then unlocking again.
Would this be enough for a warranty repair/replace? Or would, say, Amazon have access to a list of unlocked device IMEIs?

Good day my friends:laugh:
I will show you how to relock the bootloader of XZ
Download the latest Flashtool ( found in OG android development forum)
Install the Flashtool drivers found in the drivers folder
Connect phone in Flash-mode (phone shut down, volume down + power)
Press the BLU button
Press the relock option
Put a stock .tft firmware in the Flashtool firmwares folder (this is required!!)
Flash the firmware (this is required!!)
Done
You will now have a locked stock xperia z
Flashtool version used: flashtool-0.9.10.2beta
i am not responsible for bricked devices

Just flashing stock firmware will not fix the "bootloader status: unknown"

I think the point is that flash tool was updated today. In the (flashtool) op it now tells you how to relock/unlock

Not really... There is no way currently available to RELOCK bootloader... What was updated was to fix the "bootloader unlocked: unknown" to "bootloader unlocked: yes"
