device not compatible in Google Play store - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

Hey gents,
I have been trying to install FlightRadar24 on my S8/Android7.0 but no luck I keep getting ''device not compatible''. I did erase the Google Play cache but still no luck. Anyone any ideas? A game called clash of the olympians is also giving me the same error message....
I did download a FlightRadar24 APK from the internetz and this works just fine, however not ideal (regarding updates)

Any modifications, like adjusted dpi? It shows compatible for me. The only other thing may be regional restrictions by the developer.

No nothing. Original android 7.0 stock. I read something about adjusted dpi but the only thing I did change from fhd+ to hd+ in settings. Changing back doesnt solve the problem

No one else?

Tap the Settings Cogwheel.
Tap Display, then Screen Resolution.
Make sure you are running at FHD+ or WQHD+ resolution, not HD+ resolution.
Go back to Settings.
Tap Apps, then Google Play Store.
Tap Storage, then Clear Data. Only clearing the cache is not enough.
Reboot your device.
Open the Google Play Store app.
Accept the Terms of Service, and search for FlightRadar24 .

Thanks so much. This worked 100% for me!!

Worked for me too. Crazy tha play store falls over in this way...

my suggestion would be to remove FRP before doing anything else and then flash the factory firmware in Odin if the wiping of caches didnt work

Having a few G2 issues

I'm having a few issues with my G2 and was thinking about doing a "Factory Reset". I'm currently running Stock G2 rooted with S-off. Will I have to Re-Root after the Rest?
*I'm currently having issues with:
1. not being able to change my wallpaper at all, thru built in wallpapers or thru gallery selection.
2. Recently, since the forced upgrade to the "New Market", the overall performance of my phone is "Jittery" at times. (the jitter is really noticeable in menu scrolling and games like angry birds, very frustrating!!!)
I reloaded the "Old Market" via Titanium and it seem to fix the problem for about 10 minutes before the "New Market" loaded up again. I can't seem to nail down this jitter issue and has prompted my factory reset decision. Is there any way to keep the new market from auto loading? Any input would be greatly appreciated!

What steps are you performing when trying to change your wallpaper?
- via Gallery > Set As > Wallpaper
- via Home Screen > Wallpapers
This happens to me on occasion, and often I have to perform the process more than once to get it to stick. Sometimes I've had to reboot the phone to make it stick. I don't recall experiencing this problem on my previous MT4G or MT3G, just on the G2 and I'm running CyanogenMod 6.1.1 Stable.

I don't believe you can prevent the Market from auto-updating if you're still running with a stock ROM. Have you thought about flashing a different ROM, seeing as you've already rooted your phone? Performing a factory reset may help but it means you have to install/download everything to your phone again. You could try clearing the cache on the apps you're having issues with, and you can do this by going into Menu > Settings > Applications > Manage Applications.
no you will not have to re-root after a factory reset.
Thanks for the input guys! I usually use the (Home Screen > Wallpapers) way to change my wallpaper. I haven't tried any ROMs yet because I like the Stock Rom minus the blotware just fine, If this "jitter" problem persists after the "Factory Rest" maybe I'll try one. I don't relish the thought of reloading everything, but with Titanium it's not to bad, plus this jitter thing might be a conflict between the New Market and some other program I'm running. This might help weed it out....we'll see!
The "Factory Reset" has worked wonders so far, no jitters and I'm able to set wallpapers again. I did have a problem with the New Market automatically downloading all the apps that where previously installed. (after the reset, the old market came up the first time I selected market, then the new market loaded and started downloading every app) I had to go in and stop downloading on each app. I run with "auto updating" deselected on all of my apps, I found this very frustrating, I like to keep track of my updates. Anyway I've been slowly adding back in my apps to see if any jitter pops up, so far so good!

nothing but lag and issues.

This is my 2nd n7 "wifi model" Despite trying different roms and kernels i get lag, bad battery life and weird rendering, especially on websites. I usualy do not overclock and i use stock voltage. Right now im running carbonrom + the dmore kernel. Its weird becuase carbon runs flawless on my note 2.
Any suggestions?

I'm not sure how to advise somebody with over 1400 posts to their name... but here goes... I suggest you boot into recovery and clear CACHE and DALVIK... and reboot.
(I use TWRP... but I assume there would be similar options in CWM)...
This clears a lot of crap out... and upon reboot you should see the following message (after the boot animation)...
'Android is upgrading... optimising app 69 of 209'... and so on and so forth, until DALVIK is rebuilt again.
I have experienced some speed gains by doing this intermittently.
-------
You should also check out this app...
LagFix (fstrim) - http://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.grilledmonkey.lagfix&hl=en
This helps a lot.
-------
With regard to battery life...
Turn OFF everything you don't use... Google enables a lot of stuff by default.
So, in...
SETTINGS>>WIRELESS & NETWORKS>>WIFI>(Menu)>>KEEP WIFI ON DURING SLEEP... set to NEVER.
SETTINGS>>WIRELESS & NETWORKS>>BLUETOOTH... disable.
SETTINGS>>WIRELESS & NETWORKS>>More... disable NFC.
SETTINGS>>DISPLAY... disable auto-brightness, and manually set your own level.
SETTINGS>>DISPLAY... set SLEEP to as short a time as tolerable.
SETTINGS>>BACKUP & RESET... disable 'Backup my Data' to Google servers, if you have backups elsewhere.
SETTINGS>>ACCOUNTS>>Your Google Account...disable auto synchronization of anything you don't use.
So any these these...
CALENDER, CHROME, CONTACTS, GMAIL, GOOGLE CURRENTS, GOOGLE PHOTOS, GOOGLE PLAY BOOKS, GOOGLE PLAY MAGAZINES, GOOGLE PLAY MOVIES, GOOGLE PLAY MUSIC - they're all enabled by default!
-------
Beyond these tips, and my own custom ROM/KERNEL recommendation (see SIG), I can only add that I have never experienced any serious lag on my Nexus 7... even with factory stock.
-------
I tend to get around 7 hours screen time over two days.... from one charge... which I don't think is that bad really.
Hope this helps....
Rgrds,
Ged.
More detail would help a lot.
Does it lag after a clean install before losing any apps
Are you restoring apps - if so how
How are you flashing (wipes, etc)
Does it lag on stock
What launcher are you using
Is there an app in particular that lags

Kindle Fire HD 8 very laggy and slow

I have the newest Fire HD 8 and it has been very slow and laggy lately. When I do anything the screen will go black for about 10 seconds before the app starts running. Same thing happens when I try to stream video or scroll through the home screen, etc.
I have google play store installed and also terrarium, and IPVanish. Other than that, I have taken off everything else. when I use the speedtest app, i get the same black screen and it takes forever to start running although when it does, i get a fast connection with the vpn on or off.
i have tried looking around these forums and a few other places but cannot find anything that really seems to answer the question. i wish I could root this tablet but that does not appear to be an option.
any advice/help would be appreciated, at this point I am thinking of doing a factory reset or just buying a better tablet. thanks for the help.
Have you tried clearing cache in recovery?
You paid 50 for a tablet what do you expect?
This tablet performs decently (for its price tag) out of the box, but once you install the Google services it slows down terribly. I've got the same problem. I loved this tablet because its price mainly, but this lagging after installing Google Play is just unbearable.
I use [Memory Booster - RAM Optimizer] to free up memory as needed and to manage apps from auto-start.

Awesome! It did work for me. Now it runs as smooth as this tablet can run. Thanks so much! I was looking for other cheap tablets but I now will stick to my Kindle Fire HD 8 for a bit longer. I think it's price can't still be beaten.

I would love to know how to do this.
Power off.
Hold the volume down and power buttons.
When the boot screen appears, release the power button.
Use the volume button to navigate to format cache.
Press the power button to select.
After formatting, reboot.

That's what I've been using along with Cache Cleaner with all the preferences enabled: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.frozendevs.cache.cleaner&hl=en
Clearing the cache works for me too, but my HD8 always slows back to a crawl again within a week. Is there any way to disable caching?
Potential Solution
So I bought the 7th gen Fire HD 8 and it had problems right out of the box. I sent it back, got a new one and had the same problems. I somehow had the idea that the problem was my SD card. I had a Fire 7 previously and just popped it in. Once I pulled it, it immediately worked fine. For some reason I can't format it with he Fire 8, it won't let me. But I'm sure if I can or get a new SD card, then it will probably work fine. Give it a shot.

My Kindle Fire HD 8 is soooo Slow too...
Well, I loaded up my Fire HD too with Google Services et al and it lags terribly, tried deleting the cache as suggested but it only works for a little while (like less than a day), then it's back to so slow I want to throw it across the room! Any other ideas? It's the latest 2017 mod... I mean all I am trying to do is load up some information on the browser. I even tried Silk, no better.
I never tried it just vanilla out of the box - perhaps that what I should do - just go back to the original? I wanted something small and cheap to carry around that I could get email, and my calendar + contacts (but I need google services to do that because of a program I run to update my phone from desktop outlook and vice versa), and browse the web as necessary. Thanks.
why dont you remove google services and use third party store app like the apkpure to install apps not in amazon store. the slowness was a big reason I removed google. maybe give a try

THanks, yes I've thought about this. I put so much time into getting the darn thing set up like a real computer . But even after jacking with MTUs on my router today I think I've finally given up and will start from scratch and forget about google play services and all those apps I love to use
Oh I will try apkpure - thanks for the heads up I will see if that gets me where I want to go. I didn't know about it...
I wish there was a magic bullet I just can't find it! Thanks!

While just a tiny bit slower/more laggy than my rooted HD 10, I have three HD 8s with the Play store + many other applications (Tasker, Google Voice/Hangouts, various video editors, graphic design programs, VNC/remote desktop programs, + many more) and these little tablets work very well. I've even edited 4K video on one of them and had no crashes or issues.
Have you tried disabling some of the Amazon system bloatware as described in this post? That helps a lot. Though not a high-end device, these little tablets are actually pretty solid and should give you solid performance. I've even read some tear-down reviews where people who know a lot more about this sort of thing than I do were surprised to find certain build-features and hardware components usually reserved for higher-end devices built into this device and they were surprised because Amazon could have not included these entities and could have made even more money.
Maybe flash the latest stock firmware, remove Amazon bloatware, start from scratch. Happy to help if I can in any way.
Bloat.....
Richard, thank you. I will try that. I didn't know of that post so thanks for that. I will start over and see what happens!

Android 10 GPS issue

Hi there,
Since the official update to android 10 the GPS of my Oneplus 6T is not working anymore.
Whichever app I use (Google maps, Uber, citymapper...) the location won't update itself. It seems like the app won't ask the system for the location ?
I've tried clearing the cache of various location related system app, rebooting. I even tried an app mocking the location but even this won't update the position in Google maps...
I've seen a couple of thread of people with the same issue but all they recommend is factory resetting the phone which I don't really want to do.
Has anyone managed to solve this ?
I had this for a while. Nothing will fix it. Have to wipe completely then update to android 10, root, etc. will fix

Same here!
I think it's a good idea to have a dedicated thread for this as it doesn't seem to affect everyone but let's document this a bit more effectively. I've taken the liberty of grabbing a log here and by swiftly browsing through the file, I found this one particularly interesting:
Code:
01-07 12:00:57.917 3951 3951 I LocationEnabler: Location mode has been changed
This 'LocationEnabler' only occurs twice in the entire log, two milliseconds apart. Before this line 'WifiService' is throwing massive amounts of errors and just 407ms before the 'LocationEnabler' line above, this one drops:
Code:
01-07 12:00:57.510 1135 2912 I WifiService: acquireWifiLock uid=10042 lockMode=2
After that, only 6 of the following 35 'WifiService' instances are errors. I think that could indicate the GPS issue is related to the accompanying Wifi lock. I tried turning off Wifi scanning (and rebooting, naturally) but that didn't seem to change anything. Perhaps I should grab another log now.
My actions during this log:
Launch Google Maps
Notice it doesn't get a fix on my location (while in the past this used to happen instantly)
Tap hamburger menu top left, then Settings
Tap 'Google location settings'
Leave that sitting there for a few seconds
Return to Google Maps and GPS is now "fixed" (for a short while)
This is a workaround I've read in the stable discussion thread but is of course no solution.
Tagging @Funk Wizard as he's probably the only one I know that can do something with this log (or at least take it to the right people). I hope this helps!

Flashing clean is very likely a valid solution to this problem but I'd like to get to the root of this issue so OP doesn't need to make the same mistake twice. Or at least have no excuse for it next time
Apart from that I have a very smooth system now with excellent battery performance (maybe because GPS is failing, lol) so if I could solve the only problem I have without any data loss, that would be awesome.
And this is XDA developers. We just need to know, right?
Just a reminder make sure and have location setting to have access all the time..
Just going out of that app temporarily to do something else real quiçk could possibly stop the connection. Could help possibly... I myself have no issues.. I will add more to this as we get further into the Android 10 madness. Lol...
@TENlll423 Android 10 madness, say that again! I have indeed set this setting to 'allow all the time' but even if it were set to 'allow only while using the app', it should at least get a fix on the location when Maps is running.
I've now made a second log with Wi-Fi scanning turned off, see full log here. Notable events:
11:22:00 - opened Google location settings (which activates GPS somehow)
11:22:10 - closed them (back to Maps)
11:23:26 - Signal lost (location dot turns from blue to grey)
Speaking of permissions, we might be on the right track when we see a line like this:
Code:
01-08 11:23:17.690 2851 3241 I LocationAccessPolicy: com.google.android.gms is aware of fine but the app-ops permission is specifically denied.
Even with wifi scanning turned off, the 'WifiService:' pattern remains exactly the same. So I assume this relates to 'Google Location Accuracy', rather than 'Wi-Fi and Bluetooth scanning'. Just before the signal is lost again, this appears:
Code:
01-08 11:23:21.254 1132 4140 E WifiService: Permission violation - getScanResults not allowed for uid=10042, packageName=com.google.android.gms, reason=java.lang.SecurityException: UID 10042 has no location permission
Whatever I try to toggle on or off (ELS, scanning, accuracy...), the result stays the same: after about 1.5 minutes the signal is lost again.
We could really use your help here, @Funk Wizard
I could see somebody building a module in the near future to fix this ridiculous issue... Or we can at least hope.... Wish I had the know how to do something like that.....
I have the exact same issues. Annoying..
I think I managed to find a workaround which doesn't involve a factory reset:
Settings -> System -> Reset options -> Reset app preferences (this doesn't affect apps data)
Settings -> Apps & notifications -> See all XXX apps -> (3 dots in the upper right corner) -> Show system -> Clear storage and cache of the following apps:
Google Maps
Google Play services
Google Services Framework
LocationServices
Phone Services
Fused Location
Google Location History
OPMmsLocation
I wiped Dalvik cache in TWRP.
I'm not sure all steps are necessary but resetting apps preferences is the key one I think. It's going to reset the permissions of all apps but it's a good alternative to reinstall everything from scratch. The issue of the GPS fix in Google Maps hasn't come back for me since.

I had this issue and tried this fix. Now my apps are working again. ( I cleared the storage of all mentioned apps).
But after that i had the df dferh 01 playstore bug. After solving that ( some youtube tutorial) everything is OK.
Thanks,
Followed all the steps, seems to be working fine now.
Maybe it's just my imagination, but the device seems more responsive as well..

Since all your apps' settings have been reset, that is plausible. And if it's not the case, we can at least enjoy the placebo effect ^_^

Camera overexposing and I can't run system update

(Verizon)
Hi all,
See title... I'm having trouble in that the camera is overexposing everything, video and still. When I pull up the camera app the subject in question is way too light with colors all washed out. Tried different filters to no avail.
So... I'm either missing something, didn't RTFM, or there really is a problem.
So I went to check for a system update. And I get this:
Service unavailable
The software update of this device is controlled by your organization.
I'm getting unhappier with this phone by degrees. Liked my Note 9 much better.
I could use some input about now... thanks
Rich
You must be signed in with an Office 365 account or a Google account from your organization, which applies custom policies to updates. You must ask your IT manager to review your organization policies since this has nothing to do with Samsung itself. Can I ask you which software version are you running and which security patches you have? The overexposure could easily be some misconfiguration, there's an option within camera settings that resets all to default: try that and disable scene optimizer after.

This is my own phone, set up on my Google account, no IT or Office is applicable. This showed up out of the blue, and I did nothing to cause it. I found the update issue when I checked it manually, figuring that maybe an update would fix it.

You could flash the latest firmware manually with Odin 3.14.4 from samfw.com
Then check to see if the issues persist or not, if yes I'd backup and factory reset, start from scratch, seems you've either installed an app that enables some enterprise level security features or something has bugged out
Before resetting, try removing your Samsung and Google accounts from the device from Settings > Accounts & Backup > Manage Accounts, then add them back again
And clear data/cache for the camera app from Settings > Apps > Scroll down to find Camera > Tap camera > Tap storage > Clear Data at the bottom
You can find the Firmware and Odin file HERE if you are going to take @*Detection* 's route by flashing the latest firmware.
Ah! Stupid me... had updates disabled with Package Disabler. Camera works fine in full manual so I'll probably (should) go that route. Firmware would be the last act of desperation but I surely do appreciate the help and the links. Thanks!
