Hi! I have a problem with my G4, These last days I've been changing many roms because I got bored of the one I had. When I decided to stay in a rom (Omni rom) I noticed hat image quality at Instagram, gplaystotre and basically everywhere is less sharpness, I mean there are like pixels that never been before. This never happened to me, I had deal with hard things in phones but never this. This affect videos as well on yt, 1080p quality is not like before. Now I'm in stock 6.0.1 ( via fastboot) because I thought that it may solve but no. I also tried many other roms but it seems like every rom now has it when it never ever images were like this. I've changed kernels, DPI, added zips to improve image quality ( got them by general forum of Android hacking, etc) and nothing. I noticed performance improved but no idea why. How can I solve it? How can my image quality on apps be like before? PS: In chrome, I go to Instagram and images quality are good, like they were. But in Instagram app images are like pixelated ( 99% of apps are, excluding websites acceded by chrome). Thanks!
With what your describing, it sounds like your device is running at a lower resolution. Changing DPI in settings can't solve this. Try downloading easy DPI changer and change resolution to 1080 ,1920, with DPI at 480. That's the default display resolution settings on the G4 plus, which I'm assuming you have since you posted here. It's worth a try

Thanks, I already did and it keeps the same.
Wel that the hadware problem than software. Lenovo motorola has just used cheap oliophobic coating on len and it easily gets straches and fingerprint marks.
Best way to deal is change lens of your mobile.
Amazon have this lens, so better check them up.

Sorry I'm not meaning the Len of my camera, the problem is not my camera. The problem is that every image is like pixelated when they never were like that.

So NoDo is here at last....seems way faster and much better than pre-NoDo.
Things I've noticed that I haven't seen publicised -
Headphone button now hangs up a call, didn't used to.
Display driver seems worse for some pages (WPCentral page, Bing search pages - noticeable banding, even where there didn't used to be).
Switch from WiFi to non-WiFi much smoother (I used to have particular problems with this
Anyone noticed anything else or got the same issue with the Display driver that I have?
All in all a big fan but will look forward to any further driver updates that might get the display working to it's Amoled best!
- mine not saving camera setting such as wide dynamic range or antishake, also video resolution is not saved
But this were also in old soft
no problems here. everything seems to be improved

That's a feature. Microsoft is considering allowing the settings to be saved.
Am I alone with the display banding (really noticeable if you press the search button - the Bing 'Wallpaper' used to be really high resolution but now looks pants)?

Considering? They better allow it because it's the most frustrating part of WP7 for me. I want it in 720 as soon as I go into video mode!

That was like that before NoDo. I think it just depends on the wallpaper tbh. Dont think the quality is lower. But just not the right rendering.
Ive wrote to MS on facebook. On their feedback programme and questionaires and twitter about the camera settings.
Accordingly by alot of websites its a "feature" so incase you mess up settings it goes back to normal. I can justify this for all the settings except the quality settings. Damn why would you want to shoot in lower resolution when you can do it in 720p?

Isnt that OEM's fault for not getting the code right?
I wish MS just stopped mucking around and release their own damn phone. That way there will be no fall in quality as they will be able to control everything on the phone and do it, the way its meant to be done
I have noticed the same problem with display.
The most visible artefacts I have found in "Now" app. Waves the the top of the screen are corrupted with soime artefacts.
I have also noticed that photos in people tile are more bright than before update.
Again your just being picky. Ive seen the wave ripples for vibration before the update.
It shouldnt affect the display or anything else. Its just an OS update and not a firmware update (well atleast that was the case for me)
Ive said this alot of times before that the clarity of AMOLED screens isnt as good as LCD screens. Yeah colours might be nicer but its not as clear as LCD SLCD
I do not want to compare SuperAmoled (Oled) and SLCD (LCD).
I do compare a display issue which appeared after update to 7008/NoDo from 7004.
There was no display issue with firmware 7004. Al least I believe it because I had not noticed it before update.
I'm just saying that it was there already. And its amoled issue and not the OS as their two different things

Is there absolutely no improvement to the 720P capture? Is it still very choppy?
I wish Samsung would sort out the abnormally high shutter speed/white balance bug, so that the videos would appear less choppy.
Live mail folders still dosent update correct on my phone.

First of all I would like to say I LOVE this phone, its the best Android phone I have used thus far and I came from the HTC one, S4, and note 2.
Now here is whats making me insane, lg imposes this extreme low light processing which causes the image to become brighter at night, now thats completely fine with images I don't mind it, but with video seeing as we can't disable it, it makes videos taken during lowlight/indoor lighting horrid, any movement introduced causes blur and ghosting (even under the 1080p 60fps mode). I also have an iphone 5s and while the video is definitely darker, there is no issue with blur or ghosting.
This is not a bug, it is not a malfunction, its a feature that LG imposes on the camera, I was just wondering if there was some way to disable it from activating. If you guys don't understand what I mean I can make videos to show you the difference.

There is a modded camera you can use in order to fix the video low light (low frames) issues.Must have root tho and recovery in order to do so.

I hope lg eventually decided to give us the option to choose, basically decrease exposure to get better fps in low light. I prefer to keep my devices unrooted so I don't loose OTA updates but I'm glad that someone actually fixed it. If it gets too annoying I might eventually root
I've just noticed some dead/stuck pixels in HD video record mode and I would like to know whether it's a hardware or software defect.
Now I'm using 4.4.2 Carbon ROM (but saw the same pixels on Paranoid Android as well), I don't remember seeing them on stock ROM and they only appear in video mode.
So if you have Custom ROM installed, could you please go to your camera app, switch to video mode (make sure it's 1080p!), cover the lens with your finger so the screen will be all black and look for these dead pixels?
edit: I restored my stock backup and these pixels are still there, it's just a bit tricky, because the stock camera app blurs them out or something so you can't see them, but if you install any 3rd party camera app which you can use to record videos, they will be there.
I'm not saying everyone has these hot pixels, but as I've been browsing xda, sadly it's not that uncommon. Such a bummer.

Well I noticed mine on the 4K video. Can't test now better, but it really looks like a dead one or 2 to me :/.
Did you exchange your phone, or just live with it?
I may have the same issue.
Few on my G2 only on non stock ROM or third party camera app.
Stock (and stock based like cloudy etc..) have this smudgering algorythm that masks those stuck-hot pixels. Did anyone claimed for replacement over this?
I've searched XDA, I've searched Reddit, I've searched countless forums with ZERO success. I've tried Lenovo Super Cam, I've tried installing the LG Cam, I've tried flashing in the HTC cam. Nothing fixes the smeary, awful framerate and as a result I've taken exactly zero good photo or video on this phone in CM12. Is there any hope for CM or AOSP ROMs? I'll sell this phone before I end up putting an LG-Stock ROM on this thing.
I'm looking for stable framerate in photo preview and video preview, regardless of light on CM12. Does this holiest of G2nicorns actually exist?

CM12 is pretty old. I personally don't have that much issue with the camera anyway. It's a driver issue, which could explain the framerate, but the quality is pretty similar. Could you maybe take a couple of pictures and show us what the difference is?
Not sure how a photo would illustrate a low frame rate but this video shows the sneariness and frame drops. This isn't my video but the performance is similar or worse. It's the same for the photo viewfinder and that makes it impossible to take a photo or video in anything but glaring sunlight.

That's how it works though, the aperture remains open longer to capture more light, which causes less frames per second. Try recording the same thing on a stock rom and let us know how it goes. But then if it's a driver thing you can't do anything about it.

Well the video you linked IS a stock rom. There's no fix because it's not an issue, it's a camera characteristic. It's like saying a monitor doesn't display 120hz being a 60hz monitor. It doesn't, and if it did, it'd have some drawbacks. If you want steady framerate lower the iso.
It's still a phone camera, and a pretty good one at it. I'm not sure how people sometimes forget that. If you find a smartphone that matches a DSLR in the camera department and is around 200$ let me know.

The stock ROMs used to have the issue as shown in the video above, but they don't anymore. I don't know where but when I bought the phone and used 4.2 the camera was busted, and when I upgraded to 4.4 stock it was super smooth. And that's what I'm looking for, but only on AOSP or CM. No frame drops and a smooth, consistent 30fps or 60fps just like the stock ROM currently does. The stock ROM is an awful way to use this phone. I bought this phone when it was one of the cheap $180 unlocked devices posted on Phandroid with the strict intention of not using LG's C- effort. If it can't be done, it can't be done. No big deal.
There's a million threads from 2013 and 2014 that list "Oh use this, use that! Try Lenovo's camera! Flash so and so's fix even though the files are literally nowhere on the internet!" and literally nothing solves this issue in the slightest. I figured in 2015, maybe someone would know of a definite fix.
All 5.0 AOSP roms have a crap camera, including 4.4 AOSP.
Flash any 5.1 AOSP ROM for the G2 like BlissPop or Euphoria, it looks like Google got their **** together in 5.1. The camera IS better than CM12, but still not as good as LG rom.

Lol, this doesn't look like g2 at all. At least not compared to mine. The main reason I am not running aosp is the camera. Running aosp g2 turns into bad nexus 5 pretty much (imo). Not just the camera, there are tons of bugs there. If you want good camera - go with stock, as simple as that. LG camera drivers and ois makes videos very smooth. Grab a Rom with advanced camera drivers and install xcam. Fhd 60fps at night as good as in daylight. I will send you a video of mine if you want so you can see what I am talking about.
But yeah, aosp = ****ty camera, and there's nothing to do about it. Sorry
I will try and explain this the best I can, it may also sound a bit stupid. I am coming from an iPhone 6, on the iPhone you have 2 displaying settings, normal and zoomed, zoomed is what it says it makes everything zoomed in and I never liked it much.
Now the issue I face is this Moto X seems to be zoomed, zoomed makes everything bigger but you are getting less information on the screen, I would rather icons text etc smaller and being able to fit more on the screen, you can do this on an iPhone with PPI of 326 so it should be possible on a display with of 403ppi. I went into Facebook for example, for a big display like this phone has it only managed to display 1 post on timeline, it should be able to display 2-3, its just zoomed in to far. Granted it would be great if you're half blind as it makes everything easier to read but I want it smaller. If you take an iPhone 6+ vs say the iPhone 5, you get 2 extra rows of icons. On this phone you get nothing more on screen than you would with say the original moto g with 4.5" screen.
Anyone know what I'm on about? I believe scaling is the term.

I think it's got to do with dpi. You can search Google about changing dpi with and without rooting options.
Sent from my XT1562 using Tapatalk
Here's a video of changing the dpi.
Thanks all, DPI was 480, changed to 400, seems better now. Don't really want to go much lower as I believe certain apps start messing about
I set mine to 420. Mind you that SwiftKey will not be usable if you change the dpi from adb. The solution is to have root and change the build.prop file
Sent from my XT1562 using XDA-Developers mobile app
I've had to change the DPI back, I've ran into issue with certain apps, the camera would crash and ebay also
