Display ghosting - Moto G5 Plus Questions & Answers

Hey, just got this gorgeous phone this morning and I love everything about it except the ghosting on my screen.
I've seen this before on my benQ monitor but it's disableable on that as the cost of other things.
But it seems like the G5 Plus has it locked on.
Is this normal for G5Plus's?
I went from my OPO gorgeous screen to a ghosting cooler screen, and it is pretty noticeable on white text with a dark background...
If it matters I've got the UK version stuck on 7.0.0

Bump plz!

What do u mean. Like ghost touch on g4. Does phone go off and do what it wants when u plug it in. Like screen starts going crazy ?

There is a sort of trail of anything moved around the screen.
It is mostly noticable with white text on dark backgrounds.
http://www.blurbusters.com/faq/lcd-motion-artifacts/ Here is a link to a website that talks about it in more detail.
Here is my Moto G5 Plus with its screen which has very noticable ghosting during the day with brightness on max and i'm wide awake; https://imgur.com/a/sNky9
Here is my One Plus One which I have never noticed ghosting on at all: https://imgur.com/a/Bi2is

I made a video showing the trail
https://youtu.be/m5oksJKWnOI

The moto g5s plus has the same issue.

I tried that. It only really happens when its white on grey. Does not really happen in games and stuff. Its just like my benq monitor on my desktop.

Lol I know I know. But its not too bad. Lowering the brightness I do not see it as much. When I bought a g5 a week ago it panel lines and had to return it and went thru alot of phones and now I have this one.

I mean actually changing contrast / saturation in kernel auditor or something if you have kernel that supports
I tweak mine slightly and I never notice the text issue that much.

Just thought I'd throw this out there...(Epson / Nova)

Just a PM response, but I figured I'd just post it to the public...ive been thinking about this for a while now...
colors on NOVATEK are horribly wrong... I think they might be the AMOLED screens that HTC had originally announced the phone with... Then they noticed the color issue with the new AMOLED technologies and reverted to the EPSONs.

Maybe it's just me, but I have a NOVA and my brother has an Epson and the difference is negligible if any compared side by side. I guess we are just color blind and don't know it.

Neither Novatek or Epson make AMOLED panels (only Samsung and LG) and if it was an AMOLED screen it would be noticeably better

lol then you have eye problems... i held my NOVA0002 next to my EPS0003 and i tell you, nova is this color --><<--- where its supposed to be black... put the default sense black background on... youll see
and it was about my exchaning my phone due to the screen grounding issue...
also thanks for the Samsung LG comment... I dont think its impossible that what I said could be true
Tilde, you're cool. End of story.

The new phones have nova panels last I checked so they didn't switch anything to epson. If anything they ran both as tests and picked nova for whatever reason.

Mine is Novatek and black levels are amazing. Color quality is good as well. I have seen Evos with the purple tint though. I just don't think it matters what screen type it is.

very interesting... i thought all novateks would have the hue discoloration... perhaps its something that will soon be hacked out... either way, im happy with my epson
I have a related question.
I actually have a 0003, with the Nova screen. Is there a difference between the 0002 and 0003 models with the Nova screen?
Tilde do you have a 002 nova?
My 003 nova looks quite good
Swyped from my Evo 4G
I like the vibrancy of the Novateks over the Epsons anytime. Whether there is a pinkish hue or not is only distinguishable when setting it side-by-side with another device as your eyes are constantly adjusting the white balance to the brightness color you see. Therefore, the hue goes unnoticed most of the time anyways.
BTW, both screens are definitely not AMOLED. I wish Novas were 'cause then I'd be using the red tone tweak and would be saving 42% of battery life as it's been tested with the Nexus Ones.
I have a google io 0002 novatec and have compared it to a 0003 novatec and mine is noticeably brighter and more vibrant than the other one at full brightness. i do detect a cooler color temperature but it's only noticeable in contrast with a screen with a warmer temp. who is to say either one is incorrect? they both appear color accurate individually
My cousin darrell told my other cousin darrell that my first cousin darrell that his face kinda red. Figured it was from being in the sun a little longer then he aught to have been in it. But to be honest wit cha i reckon i wouldn't have noticed if darrell hadn't said nuffin. Its a little red but ain't too red i reckon.
Its like that little ding in your car door. It's small until someone points it out to you. Then all of a sudden WOW it got bigger magically.
The Nova panels are fine. Flash some ROMs or read a book.

i was going to say the same thing.. now the samsung moment, the colors on that screen are all jacked up.. but thats for another section in the forums!
love my 0002 NOVA. the screen is stunning and no matter how much I try to find flaws in it , I can't
I have a Nova and an Epson on hand right now and i prefer the Nova to be honest. The colors seem richer and not washed out.

Yellow tint on screen

I have the Verizon LG g3 and when I compared it to my LG g2, on white backgrounds the g3 screen is clearly more yellow or warm compared to the g2. Is anyone else experiencing this?
Do you think it's worth to try to exchange it for a New one?
Sent from my LG G3
The G2 was actually too blue, as are most phones. True white is slightly creamy to most eyes. Most people are used to white being Titanium Dioxide white they use to colour plastics, cosmetics and ceramics, but that is actually blue.
However the G3 is a bit too yellow, it may fade over time, sometimes it does. I rooted mine and adjusted the screen temp a bit.
The screen on mine is too yellowish for my taste, will get an exchange device tomorrow, if this one will be as yellowish, I will return it immediately and go for another device.
I don't care if the G2's screen is too bluish or whatever, I really liked it's display, but the G3 screen is to dimm and "warm"

I loved the "cool" display of the G2. That G2 is still my favorite phone. Even having the G3, I miss it. Still my favorite display also (color and temp wise).

Just got the replacement, sadly it's display is even more yellowish, so it will go back too the next days, will get a used G2 instead and wait what this year will bring on.
Really sad because I really like the G3, but can't stand the display...

I used Trickster MOD and set the colours to 238,238,255. Its still a little a warmer than my G2, but its no longer beige! Slightly yellow is right for whites, but my G3 was almost brown!
Now I just need to fix the back light, its too dark on auto.

Really sad that people are too used to wrongfully calibrated screens. I even rant to LG with straightly opposite demand a while back http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2299888 and seems like they listened and made a right decision to calibrate G3 perfectly. Their OG Pro had too blueish display around 8000K with almost green yellows, my eyes were bleeding
Not too sad I guess, as white on the G3 looks like there is a yellow screen protector on the screen...
Next thing is that the yellow screen in combination with its low contrast just looks awful.
But everyone has a different taste, so it will look nice for a lot of people, but not for me...
And by the way, why is it so many twin threads around here? Wasn't it better to discuss pro and cons of G3 display in the already existed and full of comments thread as http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2782251 ? I think it would be more proper and lead to more constructive way of discussion

Screen issues in SUNLIGHT .A very unhappy LG Fan.

Let me start by telling you that I am a fan of LG screens and lcds and I can't stand the AMOLEDs on cellphones and the unnatural colors. I have an LG TV, LG monitor and had G2 and the G3. I am a new owner of the G4 that I just purchased yesterday.
The reason I switched to this phone is to have better camera and better visibility in sunlight which is where I work. I work outside and need good sunlight visibility and take a lot of photos and videos outside.
The problem I have and I'm sure all the G4 owners will have this, is that the color of the screen fades out especially the greys and the blacks on screen. I'm not having the typical light bleed here. the whole screen fades out almost turning very very grey with texts and other colors fade out in color.
Its doing it on a cloudy day as well. Ive swtiched the phone out to a new G4 because of this problem and the issue is still there with the new phone. I'm really shocked by this because all of the reviews going around the net are raving how its visibility is great in sunlight!
I think LG messed up really bad here, made the display awesome indoors and wasn't fully aware that the lcd is sensitive to sunlight.
I was wondering if anyone else is noticing this problem.
To do the test, go to a random website or some site with text which is more noticeble than other colors(grey texts turn really white so its a better test), hold the phone out for 3-5 seconds then look at the phone. You'll notice that the texts are very grey or even white. It has to be done in natural sunlight. It wont work in indoor lighting.
Then turn the phone upside down for 3-5 seconds then look at the text again to see it come back to dark black or visible color.
Please tell me I'm not the only one noticing this....
I might never come back to LG after this one... At least for my cellphones...
I don't even think it's fixable with firmware updates... oh and my brightness is on 100% when I test it. I've tried it with auto as well and same thing with the first G4 and the new G4 I switched out.
I would hate to pay a restocking fee of $50 just to return the phone.... LG what should I do?!
Yes - I've seen this twice when outdoors at work this week. Hoping it's a software issue they can address? What has been said in the past?
Thanks for the reply. I hope its a software issue as well but I doubt it... I looked all over the internet and not one thing has been said...
I can't believe all the reviews are raving about the visibility outside.... how is this better than G3??? even the G2 had better visibility
I think its like the Note 4 it goes into a high contrast mode, but I use Lux Light for auto brightness and it doesnt do it anymore
Agree on that.
Additional the display isnt as bright as LG made me belive, my G2 is noticable more bright than my G4 ?
Gesendet von meinem LG-H815 mit Tapatalk
This is a design by LG - to lessen the contrast in direct sunlight, so that you can supposedly can see more. If you cover the light sensor, it'll revert. It only does it at 98% brightness or higher.
It doesn't help me, but it's doing what it's supposed to..
I have lux full version and it still does that...

Yes, that's because LUX controls brightness, not contrast.
You're talking about the contrast changing to lessen when under bright sunlight, no?
Did I completely misunderstand this thread?
How is that a design... Its not contrast... It doesnt do that indoors... It fades out everything

You can't replicate this indoors when you have 100% brightness on? That's weird, because I can...
How is it not contrast? Darker colors are not as dark in comparison to the lighter colors...
Does this video work for you:
https://www.reddit.com/r/lgg4/comments/38hfrw/lg_g4_the_little_things_hidden_features_maybe_not/
Yeah it doesn't detect it tell the lux gets really high, but if you take a flashlight to your sensor it will turn on. But either way its still easy enough for me to read I dunno guess I got good eyesight
I just took whole bunch of pictures of my kids at the pool full sun. I have a nexus 5 and 6 and the G4 is almost in another league as far as outdoor visibility imo. At least with the camera app. Haven't had the phone for long so will have to report back if I see this issue

Display adaptive brightness based on environment.

Hello. I have a question about the display. Have you noticed if you open a dark image (black background) and then you get a message or open a little white windows (for example in google chrome you can just have a dark environment and can tap on three little dots to open a white windows) the screen increase its brightness a little and if you close it goes back down? I read about adaptive brightness but it was not listed within the specs of the v20. I have a G4 (no bootloop so far) and it does not change the brightness like the v20 does. Or could be the contrast that changes based on what is shown on the display?

I believe it is some sort of way LG implemented for the IPS display on the V20 to seem like it has darker blacks to compete with AMOLED displays, or simply to look "better?" Just a guess.

please can you check (when screen locked) if the notifications will show as ambient (screen black with notifications text only for a while) when receiving a new notification..? I know there is an always on display feature, but was wondering if still with it the new notifications texts will show on a black screen for a while like the ambient display feature in the old pixel..
Really appreciate if someone can answer..
Is there a way on Pixel phones to edit the nav bar buttons like on most other phones? I like the back button on the right.

We need more real world reviews on the screen from Avg Joe consumer. The screen is taking a beating online. Makes me weary. My 6p had that bluish rainbow effect viewing angle issue.
Can you comment more on how the display looks to you personally? So far the reviews are not good.

So far the screen is fine. I'm not the right guy to ask about screen this or that so I would defer to the big screen thread. The only thing I do notice is a blue tint when you tilt the screen 20 plus degrees like a lot of the other people have stated but it doesn't really bother me as I almost always look at the screen straight on
In the unboxing videos I've seen, I haven't seen the tool for removing the sim card tray.
Is there one included? I'm not sure I have mine still from my 6P. I'm sure I can use something else, but it would be nice if the new phone came with one.
Thanks in advance.
Edit: so funny. Not 60 seconds after typing this, I click on an unboxing video and the first thing shown is the sim card ejector, which is in with the manual packaging.
Oh well, I hope I get this bad boy soon. My ship date is scheduled for the 24th and I'm hoping for sooner.
Yeah got my phone yesterday as well, screen is different to say the least but the accuracy of color is really gorgeous. Google said they will be releasing a fix for the screen to adjust it or maybe disable SRGB as it's not for everyone but the phone works great, lightning fast, and take everything I throw at it. I have substratum themes running on it now (non rooted) and still the phone works great and looks great.

Is there an option in "Developer Options" to toggle sRGB? With it enabled on my 6P, the colors do look more muted, yet more natural. I was just wondering if the picture color mode can be changed.
