US997 doesn't have FM Radio, as far as I know.

There are two versions of US997.
One is bootloader unlocked.
The other us US Cellular -> not bootloader unlocked.
Two different phones but same model number. LG WTF?

Actually wouldn't it be more accurate to say "bootloader unlockable"? Both versions come with a locked bootloader, but you can unlock the carrier-free US997 through the LG developer website.
To the OP's point: I have the carrier-free version, which I have unlocked, and it has FM radio. I have to assume they are actually the same phone, and the difference is only that LG will not provide unlock.bin for devices sold through US Cellular.

You are correct.
It could also be that they don't supply the app on the locked version.

I also have a carrier unlocked US997, (The one with the bootloader unlock). and mine afaik doesn't have a FM radio, the app is present but nothing happens when i click the button to turn it on. Nothing about FM radios show up in CPU-Z either, so either there isn't a driver or it isn't present...

If yours works, I'm betting its the ROM/kernal not having drivers, I'll talk to the dev, thanks anyway

It worked for me with the stock ROM's kernel, which according to your sig is what you're running. It still works for me now running Melina kernel. Maybe try that if you think the kernel is the issue.

You have to plug earphones to the 35mm jack to make it work. It serves as the FM antenna.

I did, does it have to be specific earphones, all I have is generic ones

it does not matter what kind of earphones you use as long as they are wired. If you have no earphones connected, the app starts and asks to connect headphones to use as antenna.

[GUIDE]Remove baseband restrictions

EDIT:
@devilsshadow has done a more useful guide in this thread based on the discussion here so this thread will be closed!

Hi all,
seems that some guys where able to remove software based baseband restrictions from SnapDragon modem chips so it is possible that you use your phone in every band that is supported by your hardware. In that post a driver for OnePlus is linked too For worldwide travellers this seems to be quite comfortable.
In the quoted post you'll find the necessary drivers for our OPO and in the first post you'll find the whole procedure.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=55395908&postcount=153
BE CAREFUL!
BRICKING OF DEVICE IS POSSIBLE!
So, what bands are available after doing this? Are there any unmentioned bands?

Just take a look at the first post in the thread. Some bands are restricted through software. There is a screenshot before & after unlocking. There are a lot of LTE frequencies which are unlocked etc. It depends on the modem of your phone.
I believe this is only worthwhile for the Chinese OPO to unlock the worldwide LTE bands to be able to use it in the US.

Possible, I can't prove that because I've got the international version. But as far as I know many here in the forum are using the chinese version of the OPO so perhaps it could be useful.

Thanks for posting this I travel all over the world and this will be very helpful to me. I will try this out after work and see what bands I am able to access.
This doesn't matter for OnePlus One , we don't have restrictions in the baseband. You can use it worldwide without doing this thing.

If you have the Chinese OPO, you do have restrictions (aka those who bought the phone without a invite)

how do you get into the relevant diagnostic/debugging mode with the 1+1 .
Download mode is easy, +vol and power with usb connected, or +/- with usb connected but not diagnostic, the process described doesn't work in download mode.
*#*#4636#*#*
That's not diagnostic mode though is it ? That's just the test app.

From what I've read diagnostic mode is ROM dependent. Can anyone with a stock CM11 S try the following from phone:
*#*#8778#*#*
On my crdroid variant this magix sequence does not work. Regarding orgingal thread the phone should just go off screen without any error after typing this numbers.

Seems to do nothing on my CM11s.
None of the existing short codes work. We have download mode by pressing both vol buttons while the device is powered off and connected. This mode is close but it's not quite the same.
Which is why I asked, I've tried all the other published ones. Someone in the other thread said they'd got the devices showing up in device manager, but not how.

Yeah, I can't get past the 3rd step either. And step 3.5 is a bit confusing as I don't understand what I'm supposed to use to enable the diagnostics port. Any help would be appreciated.

Just received XT1254 with unlocked BL

I did not believe until I received it and tried flashing absolutely all firmware out there for 1225/1254/1250 without bricking it. I then moved on to my next step in plan - install any retail version firmware but Verizon. I started the experiment with 4.4.4 first and found that 1225 radio will not work in 1254 (baseband simply cannot be recognised). Then I flashed 1254 radio on top (later with boot.img as well) and this make everything work except Wifi cannot be turned on. Although I don't expect it to work, I tried 1225 5.0.2 firmware with 1254 radio and as expected it does not work.
Honestly I was hoping the 1254 radio + 1225 firmware will work in 4.4.4, which means it should work when 5.1 comes out for 1225. I tried to find related information but there weren't much, maybe due to lack of BL unlocked 1254s out there. I once read someone write about radio.img must go with boot.img but I tried that. Just wondering if any of you experts here have advices for me. Well, I am assuming my phone will not be bricked so I am brave!

I know not too many would believe, until I can post the photos. Before I reach 10 posts, let me give a bit more information here - this unit was claimed to be unlocked by software, in 4.4.4 it shows UNLOCKED with status code 1, and in Lollipop it shows ENGINEERING. In both versions software version is MODIFIED instead of OFFICIAL. There are some discussion in China and it appears there are three ways to unlock - 1. engineering handset from factory, 2. officially unlocked, 3. software unlocked. The one I have is of the type 3, but as far as I can learnt from the internet, there is no major difference between type 2 and 3, if type 2 will ever exist...

Yes, I will certainly try it as soon as I received reply on the radio issue. At the moment I am still trying all I can to try to fix the Wifi cannot turn on problem in my 4.4.4 XT1254 radio + 4.4.4 XT1225 firmware combination. I honestly wouldn't mind using that for a while until I can use 5.1 XT1254 radio + 5.1 XT1225 firmware combination...
My objective is to get rid of Verizon firmware so the system is lighter and that I can have proper GSM call functions such as USSD, and tethering etc. I seem to remember that mixing firmware and radio can be done under the same Android version in the past with other Moto phones... Any suggestions or advices here would be highly appreciated.
Sorry for posting so much in a short time, I need to get to 10 posts and post the photos

If you have an european device you can unlock bootloader officially:
http://developer.lge.com/resource/mobile/RetrieveBootloader.dev?categoryTypeCode=ANRS
Follow the steps on this site. But it only works with H815. Other devices are not supported.
Asking myself what LG is thinking to go this courious way.

as we have seen countless times again and again devices gain root and twrp several years after release due to new bugs loopholes hacks mods and exploits found everyday

Convert Sprint branded U11 to US Unlocked

Now that we have S-OFF, converting from a Sprint branded U11 to US Unlocked is now a breeze. I have tested a T-Mobile & Verizon sim, and after converting, it was fully functional as if it was purchased as a US Unlocked model. I have no doubt a AT&T sim will be fully functional too. If anyone converts their Sprint U11, post you results.
1. Download & install Sunshine for S-OFF (root required)
2. Change CID from download mode: fastboot oem writecid BS_US001 or fastboot oem writecid 11111111
3. Download & install US Unlocked RUU
If anyone has a Sprint sim, a US Unlocked device, and willing to test, I'd be curious to see the results of converting from US Unlocked to Sprint. I am confident the Sprint service will be fully functioning including CDMA.
*edit* actually, converting from US Unlocked to Sprint may not be possible since the US Unlocked IMEI will most likely not be whitelisted in Sprints network, but we wont know until tested.

well not exactly...your CID & MID must match the RUU you are flashing. For converting Sprint to US Unlocked, I changed my CID to SuperCID, the MID already is the same between Sprint & US Unlocked.
in your case, you would need to change your CID & MID (if it's different) before flashing the RUU.

Sorry, one more question. You've been really helpful. Can I unroot it once I flash the unlocked RUU? I have some apps that don't work when rooted.

The RUU will completely wipe the device including internal storage. Just don't re-root afterwards if you don't want to. You will also have to SIM unlock.

Need to SIM unlock it to use it on Sprint, or did you mean to use it on any other network apart from Sprint?

It's a Sprint device, so SIM unlock is required to use non-Sprint SIM cards.

Can MPN US997.AUSA unlock the bootloader?

I know LG only supports unlocking the bootloader for the H870 (euro version) and the US997.USA
I see G6s for sale with MPN as LGUS997.AUSAPL. I can see the PL is for the color. I know u cannot unlock H870K or H870S, for example. Is part number US997.AUSA not unlockable? Or does that part number correspond to model number US997.USA?
Anybody buy one of these: LGUS997.AUSAPL, and unlock it?
Do u own the phone? easy enough to check it by trying to get the unlock code on lg developer website. Doing that doesn't unlock it, just gets the code.
If not, I'd have to guess it's an Amazon phone? Mine is, and the sft ware version is US997A20a, and that is not unlockable according to lg developer site.

Not sure this will help you but LG does have some pages showing info for the software if you know the IMEI:
Model:LGUS997
Suffix:AAMZOP
Buyer:AMZ
Software Verison:US997A10C_03
OS Version:N
File Name:US997A10c_03_1221.kdz
KDZ File size:3126334504
Download: Please contact us and use our paid service to GET latest firmware for your phone.
The link to the page giving this is here: https://lg-firmware-rom.com/
But again, to make it work, you have to have the IMEI. In my case, because it says AMZ as the buyer, can't unlock it. If it's US Cellular also, can't be unlocked.

Actually, looking again at your model code, I'm almost positive that one is unlockable. Pretty sure that's the code for the normal USA997 version.

That is a useful site. So your AMZ indicates it is an Amazon branded phone and not unlockable.
I am pretty sure US997.AUSA does equal US997.USA, but I'm also pretty sure it's not. I am wary, I've already bought two of these G6s only to discover I couldn't unlock the bootloader. So many variants.
OK here is a roundup of what I have learned:
The best way to check if an LG G6 can unlock its bootloader is to email [email protected] and give them an IMEI number, they'll check it and respond in a day.
Using the LG website, after signing up, requires another number you probably don't have; not useful.
Numerous IMEI checking websites are useful because they can give the model number from an IMEI quickly. If it shows US997, it's quite likely you can be on the road to unlocked bootloader freedom. If you have US997Z, you're out of luck. If you have AMZ, bought from Amazon, you can't unlock it... etc.
I have not verified the initial question of this thread. That is a number often used on ebay, but is usually just automatically populated to a listing, not actually the device for sale. However, that number is on the B&H website, but could also be not accurate; though I read that B&H G6s are unlockable.
The best way is to find an ebay listing with a picture of the IMEI, then ask the developers at LG. Or ask a non-paranoid seller what is the IMEI.
Needle in a frickin' haystack!

I checked out these two phones.
The photo in the juniper bush cannot be unlocked, it turns out to be model US997Z.
The photo with the thumb can be unlocked.
I hope this helps.
Interesting, I just purchased the unlocked US997 from Best Buy today. My beloved HTC M8 is ill. So went for the G6 based on the assumption it's a Bootloader unlockable. Guess I better check before I open the box to avoid restock fee if a return is necessary.
Thanks for the info and pics interestor. My box label is identical, TO BOTH!
Update: Got a reply from LG Development and the Best Buy, carrier unlocked version has the unlockable boot-loader. NOW I'm going to open the box and play with it. Thanks for the contact info!
