Please do a search..this has been addressed multiple times. All US S7 Edges' are able to interchange firmwares. So, it will be ok for you to flash the T-Mobile firmware on your device.

I have been searching, but getting conflicting or dated info. Since you've stated as of today that all are able to interchange firmwares I'm hoping you can clarify for me. From what I've seen, since my S7 Edge is on G935PVPU6BRD2 (Sprint), with the 6 indicating BL 6 if I'm understanding correctly, would I still be able to odin the most recent T Mobile firmware, G935TUVS4BRC1 with the 4 indicating BL 4 (again, if I am understanding this correctly) on to it? From my searches it seems that I may not be able to flash a lower BL #. TIA

Mr Clown is correct. This info is VERY easily found with a little Google grease. Sorry if I've stepped on your toes @Mr. Clown.

My recommendation is that you flash ALL files (BL, AP..etc) from the T-Mobile firmware (or whatever carrier you want to flash). If not, you might get some annoying issues on the way.

Thanks for the reply. So the BL version is of no issue when flashing from a higher to a lower in this scenario then?

Sir, you are correct, this is a major pain in the ass that Sprint has become the only carrier to currently use this 'bootloader' or 'binary' version 6 (5th Digit from last indicates this) and you are not able to install any other firmware because the Unlocked and other carrier firmwares are still using bootloader 4. I was hopeful since Sprint came out with the 6 that the other carriers will be updating to the version 5 (being as i'm currently stuck on Sprint's bootloader 5 firmware) when the official oreo update comes to these other carriers.
Also, if your searches are turning up with possibly outdated or incomplete information it has helped me to go thru each of the carriers seperate threads for this device to locate additional and more recent information.

Yes, I have found that it is indeed a very big issue. As my password with my former carrier stated: Sprintsux1big1. Spent most of a Saturday working my way out of a soft brick bootloop after being assured here in this thread that "No, there are no issues" with downgrading to a lower bootloader on this device. I should have known better, but accepted that statement at face value based upon the source. So... now I too await the Oreo update. With scant hope that T Mobile's Oreo will come with bl 6.

that is extremely unforteanute.. sorry. You can still use sprint firmware and sim unlock the device, it's a poor substitution but a workaround.

I have seen where AT&T and Verizon users have flashed the unlocked firmware from the G930U on their devices. Is it possible to flash the Verizon firmware on the G930U?
Update! I took the plunge and installed the Verizon firmware with Odin and all is working well so far.

Interesting... I was wondering the same thing, thanks for answering, observed one post where a fellow flashed the 930U firmware on a verizon and indicated he's using it on Cricket without a problem (even activated LTE band 17). You would think it would give a model number miss match message and fail. Thanks for info...

I picked up the unlocked one because it was $10.00 cheaper to but out right and from Best Buy it had a $75.00 gift card. So I picked up a Gear Vr with it. I wanted Verizon WiFi calling and visual voice-mail which you cannot do with the unlocked one. Since the others can flash the unlocked firmware it mad3 since the unlocked could flash Verizon. Glad I did not create a pretty paper weight.
There's a whole thread on it in the edge forums, many have had success unfortunately for me I can't get data and phone calls working on mine so I had to go back to the Pe1 build.

Good to hear I've been wanting to give it a try again but haven't felt like sitting in front of the computer for two hours if it doesn't work. Maybe tomorrow or the next I'll give it a shot again.
Thanks for taking the plunge! I've been wondering if it was possible or not to flash the 930V software on my 930U. Good to know it is. Any idea if flashing this and taking Verizon OTAs could possibly lock down the phone in any way? Like make it impossible to go back to the 930U stock software at some point down the line if say I switch carriers or want to sell the phone. This is what is mainly keeping me from doing this as I'm not sure.

Should be able to flash back to 930u firmware via Odin. Worst case may need a newer version than the original 930u firmware.

There is no Verizon G930U firmware. The G930U has its own firmware with no carrier bloat. I installed the the G930V PE1 firmware for the Verizon version of the phone on my unlocked G930U. If you want the G930U unlocked firmware you can find it on the AT&T S7 forums. It will work on the G930V but you will loose WiFi calling and visual voice-mail.

Hi All,
I'm very interested in the Moto G5 Plus, and I see that it already has Unlock Bootloader and Rooting threads, but I am looking to see whether or not tethering is a thing on Verizon G5 Plus. I would like to use my data plan but not have to pay extra for the hotspot.... they already gouge us on the price of the data plans...
It tied to your sim. So they will know you are using tethering.

This is true, but in the past and even with the Moto Z Play Edition they had tethering enabled out of the box without the need for a separate hotspot data plan... That's more towards what I'm looking for in this phone.
its a combo of what services are tied to your sim, and what the phone supports.
you can root and enable it if you don't get it out of the box.

I have not seen any root method on here for the US version. I believe the current root is for an Indian variant, I believe the XT1686. If I am wrong on this can you point me to a root method tutorial for the US XT1687. We just got this phone for my sister but I was holding off on rooting until a solid method was available with a non beta TWRP recovery built. Again if I am mistaken on this please point me in the right direction. Thanks.

I'm quite positive this phone will support tethering without the provision you mention since this is not running Verizon branded firmware. Much the same as some of the older Verizon branded phones that could run a aftermarket ROM, which totally bypassed the provisioning flag that Verizon put in place. Furthermore if you are already on one of Verizon's newer rate plans, then tethering is supported by pretty much every phone they have without provisioning. I'll have my sister give tethering a shot and report back the results.

As far as root goes, that post is made by a guy in Brazil and the links he provides are for videos by a guy in India. The US variant is different than the international versions. I wouldn't feel comfortable using that root method and messing something up since there has not been a recovery image released yet. Once you unlock and attempt to root, if it fails and you have no recovery image, you are hosed. I prefer not to soft brick my phone and make it unusable until someone provides a valid root method with recovery images. I personally own a Moto X Pure that is unlocked and rooted, but it is well documented unlike this brand new device.

I agree, I'm in no rush at all, as I appreciate all the effort the Developers put into these devices. Most of it on their own time. I was just giving solid advice for rooting a device if you are a non developer like me. I can't afford to force the issue and mess up my phone with no way to restore it. I am glad to wait for a US version root method with a restore option. Hopefully that will be soon , if we are lucky.

I followed that root method on my US g5 plus and it worked fine. It's a solid method you just have to follow the instructions to a "T".
That's good to here but there still isn't any recovery files if something goes wrong. You rolled the dice and came out a winner, might not be the same for someone else. I'll wait until recovery images are available, especially since the phone isn't my own.

If you can obtain root using the methods mentioned here (rooting requires an unlockable bootloader, and a voided warranty) you can add this to your build.prop:
net.tethering.noprovisioning=true

I have the EU/Intl version fully unlocked. I can tether with the hotspot using my tether allowance.
If I root my device and edit my build.prop as you've stated what exactly does this do?
Does it mean I can use the inbuilt hotspot/tethering function but instead of using my tether allowance it uses my mobile data?
Changing the build.prop allows you to tether if your verizon plan doesn't include tethering without a separate charge. Newer verizon plans have tethering included as part of your data (ie use it how you like)
Hello all,
I have a question regarding the base firmware I have found that is All_OYN_G950USQU1AQC8 multi cert tar.md5 . This firmware seems to be the base stock factory firmware and one user has tried to install it on the Sprint variant of G950U along with the PIT file and repartition. What seems to have happened is that we seemed to have returned to stock Sprint firmware. However, does anyone know why Sprint bootanimation and such will remain? Is this an issue with the firmware package (4.4GB and seems to have all G950U carriers within the file) or is this an issue with the ODIN software for this phone? Also, I know Sprint is a pain to deal with bc they seem to Carrier SIM lock once their SIM card is inserted. Maybe someone could shed some light on this process for us. I personally don't have another SIM to try. I will post the links to both the thread and firmware and pit files below in post 2. Also, found an interesting firmware that claims to have the eng bootloader but can't get it from the site as I am not able to purchase via yuan.
Thanks for anyones and everyone's help.

Nice! The test devices allow switching carriers just by changing the SIM. Maybe we can find a way to get the retail devices to do that.

Hello all,
I have a question regarding the base firmware I have found that is All_OYN_G950USQU1AQC8 multi cert tar.md5 .

Anybody with any knowledge on weather dirty Santa works on a bpt (Bright Point) us996? Then if it does what version it needs to be in to do it and if I can just flash standard us996 firmware over it? I have tried posting in the a few other thread about it with no luck. There is info on using dirty santy on us996 but most of it is about standard unlocked version or the ucl (US Cellular) version there is almost no mention if bpt(BrightPoint) version.

Yeah you posted in multiple threads all within a few minutes and haven't waited for a reply, what do you think we're just anxiously sitting here waiting for post? SMH

Just post in multiple threads then help in other threads about samsung note 4, s5 and a couple of other older device threads. This is my last hope for some info. Just been waiting for days on response in other threads and don't want to have to rewrite the question due to dislexia. I have to reread my post multiple times to make sure it's coherent. Even then I will have to edit it after. So the post took like 10 minutes to get to where I thought it actually made sense then I actually edited it 2 times after. Just like I had to edit this one 4 times...

Better yet quit spamming the forum and start reading threads and figure it out yourself, xda is resource for the user to develope and mod your phone, not a hand holding spoon ? feed tool. It's your phone so in the end whatever you do to it is your responsibility, so proceed with caution

You right calling me a baby is well within roles of this forum... I have read threads for days not only here but rededit and android central how might time do you take to learn as much as possible before posting your question? :silly: Honestly though I challenge you to find info on the bpt version and on brightpoint in general. There is not a lot about either. Only one post on reedit about it and no comfirmation flashing standard us996 firmware worked on it and details about how Bootloader was unlocked other then they downgraded firmware. I assume was with uppercut and lgug but not sure... Hence why I am asking in large number of areas and this thread in particular so in future the knowledge is out there and searchable in Google. Way to spam well complaining about what you feel is spam btw!:fingers-crossed::highfive:

Who called you a baby? Yourself, sounds like it. With your ridiculous multiple posts. But I digress not going to reply anymore that way you and your posts will fade away into the long forgotten depths of xda. Peace

Dump your partitions with the patched lg up.. Save them and put them in a safe place. Flash a usc us996 kdz and root with dirty Santa. Only thing I could recommend.

Thanks I was thinking about that. Just not sure how good LG devices are about reflashing. Honestly was going to use uppercut lgug to only other version of os put out for the bpt then back it up and try to run dirty santa then back everything up and try a os on it. Just not sure how prone to bricking these v20s are. Sounds like there is a default download mode from pressing up volume you might be able to get to if you brick it. So I have read a lot just not much for this variation of the us996.
Please explain what the difference in this model is compared to the other one thanks........
Ok pretty sure I ended up with one of those bpt one's no big problem I just won't bother rooting it.

I think it's the same deal as the us Cellular version the hardware is the same as the normal us996 but it has a custom firmware that does not allow oem unlocking. From a rededit post I read you need to roll it back one firmware version (there are only two) then you can use dirty Santa on it and change it to a firmware for a normal us996. Same bands and 2g and 3g from what I can tell. It works and i was able to add to verizon wireless. Brightpoint was a third-party seller of equipment for sprint i think. It was sold and the name had changed yet some equipment is still labeled brightpoint from lg. It's hard to find info on it.

Thanks for responding I tried this flashing us996usa us cellular nothing changed except now I have products code name Elsa_nao_ us......
Not sure what you are trying to do but you downgrade to previous build version then run dirty Santa to get TWRP on it. Then probably upgrade TWRP after that upgrade to lineage 15.1 aka Android 8.1.
I'm hoping flashing my phone will fix an issue I'm having. Currently VoLTE isn't working on my phone. I've chased the rabbit hole with Verizon. They ended up locking my account, and I had to go to a store to even make phone calls.
My phone model is SM-G975U1
Purchased from Samsung, unlocked.
Carrier is Verizon.
I've never used Odin. I'm used to TWRP. But I don't want to use TWRP (if it's even possible yet). Odin seems safer anyhow.
Questions are:
1. Where can I find firmware compatible with my model. Most websites look sketchy AF. Would it be better to flash Verizon's build?
1.a. does it matter if I flash for my specific model?
2. Will I be able to pull OTA/security updates once I flash?
I realize there are plenty of threads covering Odin. I will be using those as an Odin guide. Hopefully I haven't duplicated an existing thread. I'm terrified to mess up my $1200 phone.
Thank you for any help in advance!

1. Where can I find firmware compatible with my model. Most websites look sketchy AF. Would it be better to flash Verizon's build?
Use this:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s9/how-to/tool-frija-samsung-firmware-downloader-t3910584
I've also attached a screenshot on what your setup should look like.
1.a. Does it matter if I flash for my specific model?
SM-G975U and SM-G975U1 are ALMOST the same; the '1' denotes that the device has been shipped unlocked.
I say ALMOST.
Note: It's the SIM, in conjunction with the CSC folder, that determines which applications and system configuration that should be loaded. With a factory unlocked device straight from Samsung, you usually see very little bloat but some carrier specific features may not work or may be missing entirely (e.g., VoLTE/WiFi Calling etc). Take care because you might end up installing U software with a Verizon SIM and see MORE bloat than you originally had.
Seeing as you are looking for better compatibility, I would use SM-G975U.
2. Will I be able to pull OTA/security updates once I flash?
Absolutely. U models have, in the past at least, received faster updates than U1. With Google's more stringent update policies, this could always change.
Thanks a lot for the info, sorry for the late reply. I read it when I woke up last week, and completely forgot... I'm going to work on this today!
@ApolloisGod
