I bought the battery and glass camera cover online, and a local iFixIt store did the repair for $20 in labor.

Wow, that's cheap. Especially compared to the $151.00 Huawei wants for me to send it back to them and have it fixed.
Did it fix the battery issues for you and which battery did you go with? If you don't mind my asking that is...

I went with the Cameron Sino battery on Amazon. I ordered the glass cover also, because it was cheap, and I read a lot of people break it removing it. It was a good thing, the store also broke it removing it. I figured worst case they wouldn't need that part, and I'd return it . Before the fix my battery was acting erratic, dropping 20% in 10 minutes sometimes. The replacement completely corrected the issue.

Huawei Greece replaces the battery for 10€ as soon as you are in the 2nd year of guarantee.

New Battery Info

Warning: Take this with a grain of salt. I got this info from a sales rep at a corporate t-mobile store.
So I went to a t-mobile store over the weekend, I had a issue with my back cover, and asked about any new batteries. The guy gave me a new back cover and a 2nd battery to hold me over until the new ones came out. He told me starting next week, the new G1s will be shipping with a better extended battery, and should be starting a replacement program for current g1 owners. I just hope its true.
lol i just bought an extended 2200mAh battery ><
ah well, only cost me £15. sure hope i get another one though

I am sure you can still find his email if you used paypal and pass it over to him. just an idea.
his e-mail (or the company's email) is [email protected] good old paypal
also, the battery as £10 with £5 delivery.
delivery time was a bit ****.
I doubt this.
I know that randomly you can get some quick help from T-mo stores when it comes to extra phone parts laying around, but I was having issues with my phone back (grey one) fading to some brownish color.
I called to see if they would cover it under warranty and I was told that they do not stock any battery covers for warranty replacements.
IF they were to warranty a phone, they would have you send them the phone and that I would keep the battery and battery cover.
Since this would not fix my problem, they said they would have to replace the whole phone.
(Since my phone is rooted), I did not want to do this so I told them it was poor service to make me send in my whole phone for a battery back cover which I could get from HTC (which was in stock) for 15.00 + S&H.
So the Rep at the PDA support spoke with his supervisor and credited my account with the cost of replacing the battery back.
Long story short, if they can't even replace the battery or phone w/o sending the WHOLE phone back, then why would they even have extra of either laying around.
P.S. I went with the black back, no point in it fading again. It also looks kinda like a Storm Trooper now.
I walked in and showed them the back of my phone, and they grabbed a replacement back cover for me. But I did got to a corporate store.
the battery replacment program may not be too far off. when i had my wing a new battery got sent to me by T-Mo...........saying that some had experienced overheating problem and such.
the pacakge arrived out of no where.........all i had to do to not be charged was send back the old battery.
so it may come to fruition for our G1's

Has anyone that was rooted had their N1 replaced?

It doesn't seem like HTC asks you over the phone. Do they just get the phone and then charge you if it is an unlocked bootloader?
My phone isn't rooted, but I was asked if I'd rooted it in one of my two warranty swaps.
I'm in the process of doing that now. My rooted phone has been with HTC for a few days and I have not heard anything yet. I'll update when or if I do.
many people on these forumns have without issue.
they charged my $55 for a replacement because of my unlocked b/l.. good for the pople who got away with it though

What was the process that was executed for this? Did they call you? Say something? Did you try and get out of it?
nope. i got my inquiry a couple days after i sent it in and it said that my cost was $55. i called them and they said it was "something i did". but the only thing i would have done was unlock the bootloader. i hadnt dropped it or scratched... basically brand new. so.. much luck you. hopefully you dont get flamed for trying to rip HTC off, like me in the other thread i started haha

I'm not trying to rip them off. I will not hide it if I'm asked and I haven't been so far. What do you mean you got your "inquiry"?
I'm sending mine next week just for the dust under the screen problem. why are you guys sending yours?
Because of my atrocious battery. Although, they offered to send a free battery if I thought mine was bad.
Has anyone returned it for a full refund (or minus $55) with an unlocked boot loader? I wouldn't mind doing that and picking up the Milestone instead.

First (new) phone had a problem with the g sensor and an ill-fitting bottom plastic bit.
Second (first swap) phone had a blue tint to the screen, and a very noticeable blue tint in the bottom fourth or fifth of the screen. Also a dead pixel.
Third (second swap) phone has a much better screen, but still a bit of noticeable blue tint along the bottom edge. Also, the horizontal g sensor is off by quite a bit, and it has the same ill-fitting bottom plastic issue the first had, only much less annoying than the first.
I'm calling tomorrow to do a third swap, hoping this one won't have any issues. If it does, I'll keep whichever is better, and wait a few months before doing another swap. Maybe some of the later AT&T batches won't have the same kinds of problems.
Even with all that, this is the best phone I've ever had. I'm just being super picky after forking over $530. The swaps have been easy; I get a new one overnighted and then send the old one back in the same box with a fedex label htc provides. I have zero complaints about the service, I just wish I'd gotten a perfect phone in the beginning. =)

The Milestone also has the dust problem. I came from a Telus Milestone because it got a speck of dust and I was afraid more would get in. Now I have a speck of dust under my Nexus but it is really small and no more has gotten in.

Well, if battery is an issue couldn't just have replaced your battery? That would cause no concern over the phone itself, so maybe they haven't checked the bootloader yet...

Hmmm.. I'm having trouble with my N1 as well, but I'm reluctant to send it in in fear that they'll charge 55 dollars over the unlocked bootloader just to repair just the power button.

Cracked screen returns advice

I've cracked my screen
Went go-karting today and got thrown around so much in the kart that the screen cracked.
So, what's the best way about getting it repaired?
Can I just send it straight back to HTC UK and get the screen replaced under warranty? My phone is rooted, but not unlocked.
I have not returned a phone yet, but as many have stated, "it does not void your warranty to root, only to unlock the bootloader" so in theory you should just be able to send it in.
.....except that warranty won't cover a cracked screen.. I think the going rate was $280?
are you insured through assurion?
You broke it, you buy it.

I dropped my N1 on the floor in my house (stone floors) two weeks ago and cracked the glass screen.. picked up a new glass screen on ebay for $38 shipped and spent about two hours replacing it myself.. turned out perfect.. just be very patient and take your time during the replacement process.
This is the damage, I don't think the glass is broken so is it just the LCD screen beneath that I'll need to replace?

No, it's the digitizer/screen. The display would be a lot more expensive to replace.
Hi mate.. if the amoled still works you are fine yiu would just need a new digitalizer, about £20 from ebay and fix it youself.. if the amolded wkrks you need a new lcd, £45 from ebay.. i nroke my amoled, fixed it and now works.. good luck!!

If that's the case, then why when I power it on does nothing appear?
It vibrates when booting so I know its working?
when i dropped my nexus one, the amoled broke, not the outer screen/digitizer. i believe the cost for a new amoled was around $85 plus shipping and it would also cost your warranty. therefore, i sent it back in for repair and it cost $115 total, warranty still intact. btw, i opted for a refurb unit instead of waiting for them to return my damaged unit.
good luck, you have to decide if its worth voiding your warranty to fix it yourself.

Sorry I missed that part.. Yeah if it's not showing anything the display has problems, although I find it odd it would break but not the digitizer.

It is gonna be high! You wille get 3 options..1) fix the phone for a very high price 2) get the phone and pay around $40 for the labour and delivery 3) dispose of the phone for free by htc.. so pretty much re use the parts for another phone..
Not a sencible choice calling htc in my opinion

Having searched the internets I've found reports of people having it fixed by HTC UK for between £60 - £100
Also, I was told if I didn't want them to carry out the work there would be a £20 fee to return the phone to cover postage and the engineers time.
I think you're estimates are way off, however, I'm going to wait until I get my quote or I'll be eating my words...

I'm impressed t0ph0id, I accidently got a slight scratch on my week old N1, it's small but I know it's there and I'm really upset about it.
You have properly screwed the screen and you seem ok with it
Wish I could be as relaxed as that haha.
Hey buddy i had the same issue with my desire.. cracked in a similar way, HTC quoted me £238 for screen, housing, new logic board & labour.. even asked them just to replaced the screen cos i did see anything wrong with the housing but they said they couldn't do it cos motherboard had been bent..
so just got a replacement lcd from ebay at £45, took 45mins to fit the new screen everything working correctly
oh and the logic board wasn't bent! cheeky HTC

I've already spoken my mobile insurance and they repair/replace accidental damage so I know I can go through them if it's going to cost too much.
They'll repair, replace, give an alternative if they don't have the model or give a cash equivalent.

Spare Battery

anyone knows one that is at least nearly as good as the original?
ebay is filled with fakes trying to look good and just plain fakes.
i bought one which i knew it wasn't genuine but i thought "what the heck, it's probably good for a few hours" and it isn't. i have to underclock the cpu so the phone wouldn't reboot and in lasts 6 hours if i'm lucky.
Just get the original. Its not that expensive. In india it is 1000 bucks. Do the math..
Bought two on DealExtreme... obviously fake and been using one without any issues.. honestly can't tell if it's fake or original judging only by the endurance.
I would like to share my experience of battery purchase. I bought a battery from ebay, this one:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/19066970991...X:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649#ht_1357wt_1141
I recieved the package in just over a week, but it was a battery for some ZTE device!!! I contacted the seller and they immediately sent me another one. Under one week later I had my new battery(seems like an original battery).
On first charge it seems to hold a lot better then my 15 months old battery I had. Charging now takes 1.5 hours like it used to, the old battery was 0-100% charged in 30-40 minutes, with the original charger.
So for 4.99$ or in my case under 4€ including shipment I can go more then a day of normal use, surfing, mail, calling, reading xda..
Or easily 2 days of light use.
I think it was well spent money, I recommend!
Edit: I guess I should mention that battery tested with ezet CM7.

Sad day, shattered screen. Anyone replaced one yet?

Today was a sad day for me. I was working with cables under my desk and my phone was next to me. An object fell off the desk and its corner landed right on my screen. The picture says it all.
Has anyone had to get their screen replaced? Did you go through LeEco support? I'm curious what it is going to cost and what the turn-around looks like. I've contacted support and I'm waiting to hear back.
Thanks!
I contacted support to see if there is a way to buy official screen replacements. They offered me a repair service, I had to pay for the shipping (both ways), but they couldnt gave me a price for the repair, they had to see fthe damage first. Finally I bought a screen replacement from aliexpress, 89 dlls with "fast" shipping. It should be delivered next monday.

Great for you. I told them I dropped the phone maybe thats why they have to charge me. Look at their answer:
"Regarding to your concern about the your cracked screen, as you mentioned earlier that you dropped your phone accidentally, we are sorry to say that we cater only for those issue with manufacturer defects. Since you dropped your it is automatically void it warranty. Please mind that you will charge on the repair service that we provided. "
For me the shipping was about 50 dlls, plus the repair fee, wich they did not how much it could be, I calculated around 120 dlls total. Thats why I bought a replacement from China.

They wanted me to ship with FedEx. The cost was about $14 for 2 day business, which included insurance for $400. The package weighed 1.5lbs.
Originally they had asked for me to print a return label, however that isn't possible with FedEx (afaik) because you have to specify a shipping date. I was expecting an email from them, but it looks like they ended up covering the return shipping cost.
I do have to say that the communication is a little lacking from LeEco. The only reason I know it was sent yesterday is because of how I have my FedEx account setup. It notifies me when packages are sent to my address. I never received any confirmation that it was received, had been processed, or that it was even shipped back. Not a huge deal since the turn was ridiculously quick.

wow that is a great price!
I remember checking some prices to ship from El Paso, Texas to I believe it was Irving, Texas, it was around 60 dlls including a return label. Let me know when you recieve your phone to see the how they did it! I´ll will be replaceing myseñf the screen this weekend
I got the phone back today. It is as good as new. It is as if I never shattered the screen! LeEco FTW .
Mine broke too. Kind of random because it broke right down the center without warning. I shipped it to Irving via USPS with Insurance. Shipped it flat rate in a padded mailer with the phone inside a prepaid USPS flat rate box inside. $6.80 each way to ship out and back.
I think they default to saying use UPS and FedEx because that have those mailers in house and also because they are well known in the business world. Figured if I shipped them a box inside a box for USPS they'd ship it back. Will let you all know how it turns out.

I just replaced mine with an lcd from AliExpress. To be honest it looks slightly better!
One more thing, the pre applied screen protector should be a tempered glass?? I had to remove it before removing the lcd and it did not felt like a tempered glass, more like a high quality plastic protector

No it is not tempered glass. That is a rumor spawned by ignorance.
How easy was it to replace? Did you have to use a heat gun to remove it from the device?

Yes I needed a heat gun, I used a regular hair heat gun. It was hard because of the shattered parts of the screen had to be removed carefully and piece by piece, the rest of the screen came out easy.
