Saw many post from new users and senior members as well and most of the time there are lot of confusion on the OTA part, especially for the rooted phone. Few says it gets (I am one of them) and few says it doesn’t as rooting capabilities modifies the system boot.img and also we have unlocked bootloader so device wont get the OTAs. I have been using the Huawei/Honor phones for 2 years now and have been getting all the OTAs on rooted phone and confirmed the same many time but still there are lot of confusion and users thinks they wont get OTA on rooted phone.
Just confirming here that you will receive OTAs on rooted phone without any issues. This is 2nd update on my phone since rooted in past 2 months.

Note- I am not using any firmware finder or other things for this as I dont trust on FF as it messed my Honor 5C in February and I given up on it.
Instructions-
If you are rooted but then rolled back to stock recovery, just download the OTA and update.
If you are rooted with TWRP recovery, flash the stock recovery first and then download the OTA to update. (TWRP wont be able to update OTA)

Oh OK, as screenshots were for another phone (5c maybe), i thought 5x could be different.
So only stuff needed is stock and recovery stock and check OTA ?
Other thing, can i downgrade with twrp backup or is an add-on ZIP to flash also to do like aex->b340->b370->b340->aex ?

That was for 6X.
You can restore the twrp backup to downgrade not sure if can go to MM from Nougat but Nougat 350 to Nougat 340 is possible.
Yes only thing is you need to be on stock rom, to check for uodate you can be on twrp no problem but to install, you need to switch to stock recovery.
OP updated with instructions.

Hello!
I have AT&T (i337ucuamdl) Samsung Galaxy S4 with 4.2.2 installed. I have rooted the phone years ago and have not touched since. How do I update the phone to the latest 5.XX version? Is it possible to preserve the root? I saw the warning about MDL version that it is not supported. Anyone?
Thank you!
Look here.
Will I be able to use OTA updates with this ROM?
Thank you!

If you really still have the mdl bootloader, then you don't want to do an ota update, which will replace the exploitable mdl bootloader with a locked one.
If you have already done ota updates on the phone in the past, then you are already on a locked bootloader, and the above link would be irrelevant.
How did you get 4.2.2 onto the phone without replacing the UCUAMDL bootloader?

This is what I have now. Interesting that some applications are saying the phone is not rooted. I have done it 2 years ago. I cannot recall how I did it.
Thank you!
The application tells me I am not rooted.
I guess it is better to repeat the root procedure now.

This will root and install TWRP on MDL.

This will give you stock OC3 lollipop and keep your MDL bootloader.

I have rooted the phone successfully yesterday. I got a problem during my backup with FlashFire. Apparently something happened during backup and my microSD card got locked. What ever I do now I cannot format it or write anything on it. Anyone experienced it?
Thank you!
Yeah. I had 2 go bad on me out of the blue. Thankfully, they were SanDisk, which has a lifetime guarantee.
Snapping along on stock rooted 0C4 I337, wishing for some good up to date lollipop ROM's to throw into flashfire
Installed OC3. Do you know if the OC4 is available? It fixes the security bug that I would like to use.
Thank you!

Allow the device to receive and install the latest Stagefright patch first. Then do the 6.0 OTA.
OTA in Poland is also up !!!

Currently on CM 12.1 SNAPSHOT.
Edit: nvm flashed stock 5.1.1 firmware(the latest), then adb sideloaded the OTA.
I got it too, 1092
Sweden as well!
Hello from me!
Please i would be grateful if someone could give me a help to install the update. I can not install OTA, my device restarts and say that there was an error during installation.
First of all, i have 5.1 original firmware (23.16.3.victara_reteu.reteuall.en.EU retfr), with stock recovery and unlocked bootloader. I was root and i deleted some pre-installed apps like Google+, Hangouts etc. And the deletion was permanent.
Then i flashed the original logo to remove the warning screen from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-2014/general/warning-message-unlocked-bootloader-t2871478
Yesterday i received the notification for the OTA and of course i remooved permanent SU from it's menu, and delete all SU binary etc.
But i still no install OTA.
Could anyone give me the steps how to install the OTA from the first post here?
I read about adb sideload but i have never used this kind of flashing. I do not have TWRP installed as i said, i am in stock recovery.
Motorola Device Manager says that there is no update file for my device!!!
Please help me. Thank you very very much...
A little background: I rooted my phone right when I got it over 6 months ago and that was it, no Roms or anything special, everything was left stock after root. Bootloader is still unlocked.
For the life of me, probably because its been so long since I've done it, I can't figure out how to get updates again now that I'm trying to get all the latest security patches and update to Nougat and that's all I want to do.
Anyone link me to a thread or explain what I need to do to be able to flash the latest factory update and update Android? I've tried flashing images in TWRP and it gives me this error:

You can't install OTAs normally with a rooted device. You'd have to install a full OTA via ADB side load. Otherwise, you need to fastboot flash factory images. Or, return your device to stock first.

You can't flash android 7 google factory image through TWRP
You have to either use fastboot commands or use adb with flash-all.bat but that will result in losing all your data.
Just get OTA from MM to Nougat and you'll be just fine.
Got it. So just find a 'getting back to stock' thread and follow it will fix my issue?

For noobs like me, the current Nokia 5 downgrade and root tutorials are a nightmare. But for me on a personal note, my current irl situation renders the necessary processes difficult.
I'm hastily waiting for HMD Global to roll out support for officially unlocking the phone's bootloader but I'm growing impatient, so I thought of using Kingroot instead, but has it been tried on a Nokia 5 TA-1053 running on Android 8.1.0? I saw a post claiming that the August 2018 security patch has made rooting difficult.. so probably May and below are the best bet on testing Kingroot and other automatic root software. Or perhaps it's just a bootloop waiting to happen?
Try it if you dont have August update... If you get bootloop you can use OSTLA to reinstall firmware, cause your phone TA-1053 Is the most used = More development than 1044,1028... Models, So just try it or rollback to Nougat... Also if you have older build try the method oficina unlock bootloader ($5) tutorial Is posted here

I'm planning on backing up all apps and other data then go test the latest Kingroot APK or KingoRoot in my TA-1053 Oreo with April 2018 update.
Should a bootloop occur, can I simply use OSTLA to reinstall the Oreo or firmware? or is there any steps I should do beforehand? I might as well install the Nougat firmware and root my device on it if Kingroot fails for Oreo.
Just use OSTLA 6.0.2.... you have the correct April build. You can try for first KingRoot or kingo, but I prefer downgrade method ^^

I tried Kingroot = It gets stuck in 01% and preparing, does not initiate an exploit.
I tried Kingoroot = It goes to 90% then i'm met with a black screen. The phone still functions, i'm using the mobile hotspot tether right now, but I cant seem to do anything like go back to home, or even bring down the notification area. Update: It was just Kingoroot being unresponsive. I was met with a "KingoRoot is not responding" dialogue and an option to close the app, which I did. Now everything is back to normal.

The downgrade method seems to be the only option left if I don't want to wait for the official unlock.
Thanks for the info mate.
