Any battery cases compatible with Samsung Pay? - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

Mophie or otherwise, plenty of reviews on Amazon none of which I was able to search and find to see if there are any Battery cases that work with Samsung Pay. I've been spoiled and use it at every opportunity, but after this hurricane, have quickly realized the benefit of having such a case. Thanks in advance.

All Hope Lost for OEM Accessories?

So this is it? Not even a real pogo cable, case, stand, nothing? Is Google and Samsung going to pretend that this tablet does not exist?
One of the most shameful product releases in recent memory considering the performance of this machine.
I'm incredibly disappointed too. Nexus 10 and Verizon G-Nex and left in the dirt. I just want an official case and dock for my N10 already.
Just because is not available yet, it doesn't mean it will never happen. Nexus 7 just got their official dock, after all this time, so it might be a while but don't act like this is a 2 year old device. Might happen or might not, nobody knows.

I do not like the way Google is handling this. Any OEM accessories should have been out on launch. Not more than half a year down the line.

ha ha! Yeah, I am in the same boat - bought both of these, and had to deal with 3rd party stuff.
Maybe I should warn everyone what I am about to buy so they know OEM stuff will never be made for it. I am cursed.

I agree, this is supposed to be a high end tablet and it definitely should've had official accessories right from the start . they dropped the ball on that one.

Nope, never did, but rumours suggest the GS4 will have wireless charging
Best solution is to buy yourself a Qi insert and Qi charge pad, that's what I'm gonna do for my GS3.

Just curious, why do people prefer official accessories over third-party if they do the same thing? Is it a hassle using third-party products?
But yeah, Google are being annoying. Again!

We don't have either. The only accessories out that i am aware of are third party cases, and a single supplier for the pogo cable.
Is it a case of the product not selling enough that third party manufacturers see no economic sense in designing and manufacturing things such as charging docks or keyboard docks etc, or maybe google/samsung have put a legal block on them doing so, or maybe the software knowhow required to make use of the pogo pins.
Either way it just makes no sense to seemingly sabotage such a great device. Be it the abysmal stock levels, ridiculous re-stock times and refusal to allow pre-orders so that they simply know how many they need o get in to fufill orders and then keep in stock, seeming refusal to support an advertised feature of the product. If they advertise magnetic pogopin charger under the device features, then even someone with zero common sense or business sense would agree that if you market this feature then you support this feature, but instead we have had to wait for 3 months or whatnot for a third party very expensive pogo charger. That is just something that should have been included with the product let alone be available to buy form the play store on release day.

Our problem is that we don't have good third party cases either. All we have are cases from no name makers. And even the popular ones (like poetic slim book) are made incorrectly for the tablet. That case in particular pulls the nexus 10 too tightly from either side and causes the screen to lift away from the tablet.
All big name companies have said no to producing cases for the nexus 10 to my knowledge. We have nothing that uses our dock pins and nothing that uses our pull away back plate.
Basically boils down to this tablet having next to no support. One of the reasons I'm not buying another Nexus device. Can't blame Samsung because their devices all get accessories right away from launch. Different s pens, cases and docks. The Nexus 10 has been out for several months now without so much as that damn cover the tablet was demoed with.

Alright, I got it. I was unaware of the lack of even third-party accessories. Just got my N10 yesterday. That's a shame then.
Is there a name for that cover you speak of (the one that was demoed)? I wanna peak.

No name. But when the Nexus 10 was announced, there was a cover that clipped into the magnets we have under the tablet body and was just a simple cover that laid over the screen like a smart cover. This has yet to be released or even talked about. And there is no third party case like it.

Just keep in mind that Google is dependent on Samsung. The reason the Nexus 4 and Nexus 7 accessories were delivered is because of the OEM making the device. What Google needs to do is rethink Samsung's involvement in a Nexus device in the future.

If what was delivered was 1:1 I wouldn't really care. As far as the POGO Im done, I got two from the 3rd party and I have no desire for Samsung to make one of those anymore. The problem is there is still no charging/audio dock available from anyone and there is no smart cover available from anyone (the closest we get are those like the Poetic but those add bulk because of the fact they are a full clip-in case).

My thought on the S4

Its OK but not raving about it, many things they could have done better, Photosphere? why the heck did you leave this out? I brought an expensive charging pad thinking great the S4 has the induction coil buit in, NO its another purchase and a different back, why not include this on a high end phone its not complex electronics, laser keyboard? they could have done it......
Maybe photosphere was restricted by google, not Samsung? Is it any other 4.2 phone that isn't a nexus device?
Maybe you should of read the specs first before committing to buying accessories? If no specs available, research first...
In fact, shame you didn't ask here before your purchase rather than after. Not quite sure how that's Samsungs bad?

yes you are correct i should have read the spec, currently running Omega with Photosphere on my S3 but have seen mention out there of Orb for the s4 but seems people doing reviews were guessing

Why not the Nexus Gen 2?

So if one has no use for the S pen, is there a reason why one would get the 2014 over the Nexus Gen 2? The specs seem roughly similar.
My priorities are these:
1 - Screen res
2 - Swype keyboard
3 - Long battery life
I'm dumping my ipad mostly because of the lack of no. 2. Once you go swype, you never can go back!
For me, the lack of external storage (sd card) is the deal breaker. After the OS and bloatware, you will have enough space for maybe 2 1080p movies at best. I want more space and I don't want to tether a storage dongle to get it.
Sent from my Xoom using Tapatalk 4
Nexus have good spec but I'm prefer stylus and expandable storage to use for video and book.. Internal memory will full with HD game data file. So not good enough unless Nexus have 64GB memory...
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 4
Personally, I would never buy a full sized tablet without expandable storage since "the cloud" isn't a viable option for me.
Samsung has actually done a lot of customization that adds quite a bit, such as being able to run two apps side by side. You won't be getting the latest and greatest updates in a timely manner, but with the recent updates being pretty minor, you won't be missing out on that much if you don't go Nexus. Plus, Samsung devices have always been notoriously easy to root and add custom ROMS, so you'll get a Nexus like experience if you'd like. However, the Nexus tablet may likely be about $200 less (just a guess, no info to go by).

For me it's simple, the spen the other stuff is trivial and easy to get around. If The nexus did indeed come with an spen for me it would be a no brainer. The one thing that pisses me of about non nexus devices is the updates, the other is no multi user support from Samsung. I don't know why they haven't implemented this in their tablet lineup.

Expendable storage would be a deal killer too since I plan on getting only the 16gb version but I'm under the impression it will be coming with it (all rumors point to that).
Multi-tasking window is nice but how often are you guys actually using it? I guess it can come in handy while watching a video and you want to read something. The issue w/ my Galaxy S3 is that multi-window brings the thing to it's knees.
for me, it's the pen that's pulling me in. Some android fanboys may disagree with me but if it wasn't for the S-pen i'd be going with the next iPad. The tablet apps ecosystem is much more mature, especially when it comes to good note taking apps. I need it for school. I pre ordered the note though so i'm pretty excited for it.

Multitasking on even my Note 2 is not really a deal breaker for me but when I had my Note 10.1 original it was nice, the ability to run multiple Windows at ones is really handy. Even with the high ppi on phones its hard to read a lot of the text on screen if im watching a video or doing something else, but on a tablet its a whole other story

So am i, it'll be nice not having to deal with the jailbreaking cat and mouse game w/ apple. I'll probably just install a nice touchwiz rom and some root only apps for this device, who knows though. The thing is already feature packed, only a few things i'd want to add like opening multiwindow to any app.

Way back when there were a lot of Benefits to root, seems less so these days. The main reason why I root is to remove the bloat and for changing my dsn so I can watch American Netflix. Actually, the Note 10.1 2014 does come with multi-user, max. 8 users
Also apparently being implemented in their other 4.2.2 tablets somewhere down the line
And Knox will be a problem if you care about your warranty (and this goes beyond just rooting the device- unlike old days, you can't claim warranty again by unrooting after you root because of Knox)

Does it automatically void your warranty in every case though? I'm only worried about having my warranty for hardware issues like dead pixels or messed up buttons. On all previous phones i've owned, all that stuff would still be covered for rooters. I've always dealt with sprint though, not samsung.

Possibly.
This thread explains how Knox works pretty well:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2447832
Though whether that applies to Sprint warranties as well I have no idea.
This is for the S4 as well- the Note 3 will (obviously) have no non-Knox firmware, which may mean that Knox MIGHT act a bit different, seeing as its not likely there'll be any firmware with non-secure bootloaders. However with the S4 people have reported that the flags have changed just by rooting the device. So who knows what might happen.

I have the current Nexus 10. We will have to see what the Nexus 10 Gen 2 offers when it released soon. I can point out two features on the Nexus 10 that are exceptional. First, the forward facing speakers on each side of the screen. These are much better than the side facing (or rear speakers) on other units. I thought that Samsung's side facing speakers on the Galaxy Tab 10.1 were awful. Second, the timely software releases are something you will appreciate the longer you own the tablet.
I am someone that finds the s-pen extremely useful. External storage is something that I want also. I will wait for the Nexus 10 Gen 2 announcement, but I suspect we will be faced with giving up something no matter which way we go with these two tablets.
Biggest turn off is quality will be poop if rumor is true that the new Nexus 10 is being built by Asus. This is coming from owner of Nexus 7 2012 and 2013 models.

I agree about the S Pen part. I am really looking forward to the hi rez digitizer on the 2014.
I do like tue more mature apps for the iPad, but I cannot deal with a 4:3 screen any more. I read somewhere that switching to a 16:9 screen will be a major headache for devs, but I do not know if that is accurate.
Sent from my Galaxy S4 via tapatalk.
The biggest hold-back for me (from the Nexus) is the lack of memory. Removable memory is the best option, but I could live with fixed memory if they offer 128GB like the iPad now does. With how crappy internet is (if I can get it) while deployed or on exercises/travelling, I definitely can't rely on "the cloud"...

Ditch the S6

After having many android handsets, a number of which have been Samsungs, I've decided i'm going to get rid of my S6.
it's glitchy, slow, randomly freezes and isn't what I was expecting from such an expensive handset (bought outright) I'll be in favour of the 2015 nexus 5 or possibly the Blackberry Venice depending on official specs.
anyone else jumping ship?

I love my S6,it may not have an SD card slot but it's fast. If you don't screw with them too much, they run great. It's one of the first 64 bit Android devices and I honestly think it runs just as well as an iPhone. #LovemyS6

Will definitely check out the new nexus. I like my s6 but don't love it, and that's down to the software bloat and aggressive app closing all the time. I could happily multitask on my nexus 4 with 2gb ram but if you have 2 or 3 apps open on the s6 and switch between them they've closed and reload.
It's annoying more than a deal breaker, but shouldn't happen on a £600 phone
the S6 camera is the best i've ever used in an android phone
but the multitasking (closes background apps too aggressively) could be much improved
it ought to be an easy software fix... the hardware on this phone is class leading
Yeah I agree with you guys the camera and design of the phone is phenomenal, it just doesn't seem to want to work as well as it should on paper.
I haven't rooted this one due to warranty and knox trip and kept it standard.
I do think my time with Samsung has come to an end after owning this handset though, initially starting with the S2 and upgraded each year also had other handsets inbetween.
I had high hopes for one+2 but that didn't raise my eyebrows enough to hunt for one

This is one of the most satisfying phones I've used in a while. I dislike the battery life and the RAM management, but how much I love the phone despite all that is a testament to how good it is.
I came back to Samsung after a short hiatus (S2). S6 is not perfect but I like it very much.

it doesn't sound like my experience (except of course ram management, which is not very good), I would do a factory reset and flash one of the latest roms coh2 (iirc)
I have to agree, the S6 is very glitchy and it jutters. The worst thing is that it redraws my home screens often and it freezes. My HTC m9 is much faster neither of my phones are rooted and both were purchased sim free.
flash the Note5 port, makes big difference
The S6 hardware is just top notch(although extremely fragile body)! U can't get lag with this phone, seriously. It's faster than my bro's iP6 and the camera is the best I've ever used.
After S2, Samsung phones were over for me. But the S6 is just a grade above others and theming is so great. Feels like my old Nokias with lots of themes!
I love my Sprint S6, now it is even better after the August 24th Samsung Pay update. The icons and UI look just like the Note 5. I am really looking forward to using Samsung Pay, I am going to sign up for beta.

I'm not going to read this thread - I imagine it's a bunch of people just telling you to go away if you don't like it.
This is the first Android phone that I have been completely miserable with, and wish a switched to iPhone instead of getting the S6. I love the camera, I love the body, and I hate iPhone/iOS, but the S6 is, overall, a miserable, crappy experience.

Second part:
Let me give you a piece of advise (or how to solve your s6 issue):
1) backup your phone to Smart Switch
2) Reset the phone to factory setting (don't use restore), setup as new after reset
3) Reinstall your original stock firmware through Smart Switch
4) If you wish, restore your backup from Smart Switch.
Then, if this does not work, you got a "bad apple"!
I think it's more to do with the out of the box experience that hasn't really "wowed me" which is what I anticipated when I 1st had the phone.
I've refrained from rooting on this handset due to warranty in the UK being a pain in the arse.
If I am the only one planning to get rid of it's more to do with personal preference and the old saying of "you can't please everyone"
cheers for input guys nice to see I'm not the only one a bit disappointed with the S6

i must say i was an apple fanboy up until my last iphone 5 i just got sick of having to jailbreak the dam thing to be able to mess around with it, thats why i turned to android and since getting the s6 i think its a great phone, im on ee and not rooted yet dont know if its an ee thing. from out the box the phone worked great not as many issues at all as I am hearing from people and then since the update to 5.1.1 its just supper quick solid phone.
I agree with you OP. And to those saying to root and flash custom rom that shouldn't be a solution around these issues. I shouldn't have to trip warranty and break functionality (ex. Samsung pay) just to have my $700 phone work without lag and slowing down when too many apps are open. Although my favorite feature is a Samsung only feature, multi window, I'll most likely switch to the new moto x when that comes out.

I'm getting rid of mine too in prep for the new nexus.
The camera is great but general usage is just 'meh' compared to my older s5. The s5 is actually much smoother, especially in web browsing.

the multiwindow
feature is really good I do like it and yes I shouldn't have to root it to get a better user experience, I've rooted many phones in the past but that was due to wanting to root them, not the case with this as I can't be bothered with it in general

I think the s5 was good loved it had waterproofing to an extent which they should have stuck with but hey-ho samsung follow the trend of other smartphone makers instead of being innovators for such a huge company, this phone could have been so much better for all the hype and marketing its had, same goes for the s6+ edge I mean talk about imitating apple which samsung has done for a few years now, def last Samsung for me bored of them

Bounty?

So are we to this point yet? With this locked Bootloader we are getting nowhere. I know before they had safestrap to get around the bootloader and flash roms on att devices. Now I'm in for whatever but thought it was worth the discussion. And no I do not know how someone gets paid or whatever or keeps track of funds. I just starting the convo on it.
I support this, as well. I made an uncharacteristically ignorant upgrade from an S5 to the S7 Edge (Sprint - Qualcomm) and hit a roadblock with rooting.
I signed the petition almost the day it was posted. But still no love. Its sad, knowing the one thing holding this device back from reaching its true potential is the stubborn nature of the manufacturer.
Facts & Rant: the biggest complaint about Apple is their communistic business practices. So why would Samsung start emulating Apple? First they stripped the S6 of the two flagship features that set their phones apart from Apple devices (thankfully they brought back the removable storage with the S7), and now the locked bootloader...? This is one reason I've never considered myself a fanboy of any one manufacturer...
Not sure if this thread will become the official bounty thread, but either way: $10 from me to the one whom succeeds.
Does XDA have a crowdfunding module?
The phone stock is amazing with bloat disabler. Not really finding myself caring or needing root. Besk of luck to those that need it. WIll be a long long wait if it ever comes..

So is there an official bounty for the Spring S7 Edge to get a solid root going (the one and only "solution" seems iffy).
I'm more than happy to contribute.
I've had my damn S7 edge sitting in the box since November and keep using my Note 4 (while my g.f. uses her S7 edge).

Odin a U firmware...almost like having root. What are you looking for with root specifically? The U may be able to do it

I'm rooted on APL2, on the sprint G930U firmware. It works perfectly aside from no MMS.
For starters I want to backup/restore my data from my Galaxy Note 4. There are many apps that don't save to the cloud still, and also many that don't use the built in MM "backup" that Google provided developers. TitaniumBackup is THE app to use here to ensure true backups. Binary "nandroid" type backups are another feature I'd love to retain I tried Helium but it seems a bit wonky and seems to not backup all my apps. The asinine "Smart Sync" that Samsung provides also does NOT backup the actual data -- only SMS, call logs, pictures and other generic things. Removing any garbage apps is another reason I'd like root. And lastly, I would want to NOT trip Knox so that I can use Fingerprint with PayPal, AndroidPay, SamsungPay and other apps that check that bull**** tripwire.
But honestly, backup of data is the main reason.
The methods I've been reading seem convoluted and nowhere near as easy as Note 4 was to root. I figure if I can throw in $50 or $100 to help the cause, I'm all in...
i am for this. on a side note, i have been using my S7 unrooted since october and i must say im pretty suprised that i haven't missed root all that much.
