Clarity/resolution - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Real Life Review

The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 has a crazy crisp display. Just kidding, this is automated text so who knows if this screen is any good. So, you be the judge! A higher rating indicates that it's extremely sharp and clear, and that you cannot see pixels with your naked eye.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!

Lord almighty! Definitely the most beautiful display to date!
Surpassed my beloved Note 7 in every respect. Good riddance to my interim Lg V20.

picture perfect

I can tell for sure that Note 8 has the best display I ever seen. I purchased a Pixel 2 XL last week and couldn't keep using. Already sold. Comparing my Note 8 with Pixel 2 XL, displaywise, made me regret of boughting Pixel.

Because he much prefers the screen quality of the Note 8, like he said!

Display quality

Hello all,
I am very interested in trading in my Nexus 6 (shamu) for a OnePlus 6T. Hard to pass up the $300 trade-in on a 4 year old device
My main concern is the display, mainly pixel density. From GSMArena:
Nexus 6: 1440 x 2560 pixels, 16:9 ratio (~493 ppi density)
OnePlus 6T: 1080 x 2340 pixels, 19.5:9 ratio (~402 ppi density)
Is this drastic of a drop going to be noticeable? Is there something about "Optic AMOLED" that makes up for this discrepancy? It just shocked me to see a 4 year old device with display specs that outperformed a brand-new "flagship killer" (not looking for a flame war here )
I don't really have any T-Mobile stores in the area where I can go and compare myself. I was hoping I could get some anecdotal evidence so I could make a decision. Any ex-shamu users out there with a 6T that care to weigh in?
Thanks a lot!

To each their own, but I came from a pixel 3xl which has a pretty nice screen and have no complaints.
I came from the Nexus 6p which has an even higher pixel density.
I honestly can't tell any difference, in fact the 6T looks even better. The home screen icons and fonts are tighter than on the 6p.
Also if you're wanting the deal, tomorrow is the last day.

Agreed. The pixel density is just fine on this. If it dropped to 720p then that would be a problem, but 1080p is just fine (unless you do VR with your phone, then it will be kinda crappy and you will miss the higher density).
I came from a combo of PH-1, P2XL, and Pixel 3 (mini), all of which higher pixel densities.
I came from a Moto X Pure and I haven't been bothered. It is a slight less crisp, but not a deal breaker for me.

I came from an Essential. No complaints.
My daughter has a Galaxy S8 and looked at the 6T screen and her first impression was that the screen was incredible.
Yeah I came from the Note 8 and I was very concerned... I've always used Notes - and I love this screen. Plus the phone just destroys the Note 8. Battery life and speed and thank goodness for the UI... so nice.
The screen is great! Better get it quick, I hear tomorrow is the last day for the promotion.

Sounds like a winner Thanks a lot everyone!
I came from the Note 8 as well, zero complaints as far as the screen is concerned. And the 6T really does kick the Note's ass when it comes to battery life and buttery smoothness. The fact that I paid $280 for this phone should be a crime. Actually, the fact that Sammy charges a grand for the Note 9 is the real crime. Do yourself a favor and pick up the 6T...even at full price its well worth it.
I came from a Pixel 2XL and the OnePlus 6T screen is much nicer. Pixel density may be less but you will never notice it unless you are doing VR with it.
Oneplus screen flickers makes my eyes ache and get blurry after extended use. Does anyone else have this experience?
Screen looks good to me although sometimes I think the top half has a very slight red look compared to the bottom half, other times it looks fine and I think it's just my eyes. I came from the Nexus 6P and galaxy S8+ which both have higher resolutions and I'm not noticing the difference if I'm honest.
I have note 9 and 6T, 6T isnt quite as bright and no 2k quality but for a 1080p amoled panel it is very good and very sharp. hard to tell between the two except for higher res and brightness
I came from google pixel ,so the screen looks amazing for me. I use the screen at 75% brightness ,and it makes watching videos pleasant for long duration.

This was also my worry but I really think the 6t is definitely more colorful
I'll chime in just to reinforce what others have already said. I haven't had a none quadHD display on a device in 4 or 5 years so I was very concerned about if I would notice pixels on the OP6T. I even almost didn't buy one because I was telling myself 1080p wouldn't be good enough. I currently own the Pixel2XL as well and the display on the OP6T destroys it. Side by side the OP6T is far better than the Pixel2XL display. The OP6T is bright, crisp, sharp, great colors, lots of color options to tune the display to your liking, and it is just as good if not better than any quadHD display I've used.

Samsung Galaxy Note 10 | 10+ still sticks with 60HZ refresh rate. Compared to other phones it's quite expensive and not having 90fps...... That's weird.

They're probably saving 90/120hz for S11. When I spoke with a senior employee they said big changes are coming for the next model.
Too expensive. May be in 4 years

Has anyone found a way to lower the Smaller Note10s resolution to 720p?
I have the smaller Note 10 with the lower resolution, and I honestly can't even tell. The screen looks so clear and crisp that it almost appears to be fake.

OnePlus 8 Pro?

I currently have a Pixel 2XL and am starting to itch for an upgrade. I was excited for the Pixel 4XL but I can't justify the price for what you get. Then the OnePlus 7 Pro caught my eye and I'm considering buying that with the Black Friday deal.
Do you guys think it would be worth waiting for the OnePlus 8 Pro (April-May 2020) or should I just pull the trigger on the 7 Pro with it's current discount?
I'd go for the OP7Pro if the black friday discounts are substantial. selling the OP7Pro in future will not suffer much loses if you wish to change phones in future.
Get the 7Pro for the win! Then trade up to the 8 later...
Getting the OnePlus 7Pro was the largest jump in phones as far as tech/display and just all around happiness with the device(previously used the LG G7/Mi Mix 3). Easily money well spent and to be honest, if i completely bricked this one i would try to buy another one to replace it.
Well I heard the 8 is gonna have a hole punch. So if you want the gorgeous display get the 7pro

HOLE PUNCH?!?!???! BLEGGHH. I cant go from a full, un-interrupted display to a silly looking punch hole in my screen. I really loved the look on the Mi Mix 3 and i love the look on the 7Pro( i never use front facing camera's anyway)
I have both the 2xl and OP7 pro and love both. 2xl camera still runs laps around 7 pro but 7 pro is in another league in every other measurable.

That is disappointing to hear. I love the camera on my Pixel 2XL and feel it might be the only thing to make me return the OnePlus 7 Pro when I get it.
In my personal opinion I feel that camera quality is very subjective. Let's face it, we are talking about looking at the majority of our pictures on a 5 or 6 inch screen that has more resolution than most TV's! The only way you can tell if one camera is better than another is to hold them side-by-side while looking at the exact same photo....who does this? The camera on the 7 Pro is great...it takes pictures...in color....on a fairly large high resolution screen. To make our choice for a "phone" (communication device) based on how accurate the pictures might be (which again is subjective) is not the way to do things. There are too many other things that are necessary for one of these compact computers to work properly that I feel that the camera is the last, and the least important. If the battery runs out...no pictures...if you cannot maintain a good network signal, then you basically have an overpriced camera. It's just gotten way out of normal reasoning to worry so much about the camera on a smart phone. YMMV

There is a ported gcam app for OP7 that closes the quality gap a bit but you have to be rooted to use the Telephoto, and Wide lenses with it. The upgrade is still worth.
I wish the front cam cutout were in the middle and not on the left side like how it's shown in the leaks @ 8 Pro.
OnePlus 8
OnePlus continues to attract attention until the official announcement of the OnePlus 8 phones, and once again new official images emerge showing the colors of the OnePlus 8 Pro.
This year, OnePlus introduces an exclusive blue color for OnePlus 8 Pro, or is known as Ultramarine Blue, on the other hand, OnePlus OnePlus 8 Pro is presented in green or Glacial Green hue, which is also offered for OnePlus 8 flagship edition.
Oneplus OnePlus 8 Pro and OnePlus 8 are slated to be offered in Onyx black, and OnePlus 8 Pro does not come in blue like the Interstellar Glow model presented in OnePlus 8.
Roland Quandt also highlighted new leaks on the OnePlus 8 Pro screen that appears curved design on both sides, while the screen appears flat in the main version of OnePlus 8.
OnePlus 8 Pro also comes with a 6.78-inch AMOLED display, with a refresh rate of 120 Hz, and the screen brightness ratio reaches 1,300 nits.
Previous leaks confirmed that OnePlus 8 Pro has 48-megapixel sensors, with the main Sony IMX689 sensor 1 / 1.43 and 1.12µm pixels, while the IMX586 sensor comes with wide viewing angles, with an 8-megapixel zoom sensor, and it supports up to 3 times optical zoom , While the last 5MP sensor comes to collect more accurate color detail.
It is reported that OnePlus company recently confirmed that the OnePlus 8 Pro phone was launched with a Snapdragon 865 processor, and also reviewed the efficiency of the refresh rate of 120 Hz in the screen, the phone also comes with LPDDR5 standards in random memory, and UFS 3.0 standards in storage capacity, as the phones support 5G networks .
Current Pixel 2 user - I'm going to ride out the last year of Google support and jump ship next year. Will be interesting to see the advancements going to the 5nm SD875, which I assume will be on most of 2021 flagships!

Pixel 4 XL to OP 8 Pro?

Thinking maybe ditching my Pixel 4 XL for the OnePlus 8 Pro. My main beefs with my 4 XL are mediocre to poor battery life, and dim low brightness screen.
Anyone do a similar switch?

I did I had pixel 4xl for few months it is good phone and I choose one plus as replacement and so far I don't regret
Oxygen Os is almost as good as stock Google Os
Only thing I miss is gesture for nav bar from pixel 4
Anyone else switch from a Pixel 4 XL to a OnePlus 8 Pro?
I also switched from a 4xl to an 8 pro.
Virtually everything is better for me with the 8 pro.
I'd give the camera edge to the 4xl but it's closer than I thought it would be.
The wide angle lens and video of the 8 pro brings things pretty close.
The 8 pro is faster, smoother, looks and feels better, is brighter and the Oxygen OS is an upgrade to the pixel launcher (although I still end up reverting back to Nova).
The display with its 120hz and qhd is just ridiculous. Best display ever to this point.
All in all just a great phone and a real upgrade to the 4xl.
IMO

I had the 3xl before the 4xl and found them to be very similar. Love my 8pro.
Best phone I've ever owned.

Overall speed

Would you say that the Google Pixel 5 is "fast" in day-to-day use? A higher rating indicates that you think the Google Pixel 5 exhibits fantastic performance. Like, is it as fast as your tears when you watch The Titanic?
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Seems a hair faster and smoother than my 3Xl.
Hard to tell this early.
Coming from a Pixel 2, speed is far greater. Obviously I’ve moved up the game of screen performance too so can’t compare much.
I have used every Samsung for the last few years, then a 7T then and S20 FE, now a Pixel 3 for work and a Pixel 5. I abuse phones, work on them , they are my main work device , and the Pixel 5 is tiny fractions slower than the S20 Ultra when saving or opening large files, but it's meaningless fractions as doesn't slow me down. The balance of speed weight and size though is s delight, the S20 is a brick, ridiculously heavy. Google have got this spot on

Typing seems slightly laggy sometimes vs my 3xl, but way better at everything else. Odd.
I am quite satisfied with the overall speed, not experiencing any lags so far.

Hi, I seee you've used a 7T can you give me your opinion comparing it to the Pixel 5?
I've just ordered a Pixel 5 and currently using a Oneplus 7T, I'm a little concerned about my choice, will I miss my 7T when going Pixel 5?
TIA

Everyone is different, the 7T and S20 are excellent phones but my job is working with Google and when you handle the Pixel 5, the smaller size, lighter and great battery it's a joy. I wanted clean Android as well so was an easy choice, but if you are used to huge screens you might miss it I dunno

I'm looking for a smaller device so the Pixel 5 just fits perfectly, I'm a bit worried about call quality via the under display speaker and performance of the Snapdragon 765G compared to my "older" 855+
