Can we match the performance of the OP3T?

Why is the OP3T so much faster than the Pixel XL? Yeah, let's have this conversation.
Review after review (including XDA's own) has shown that the OnePlus 3T (and sometimes the OnePlus 3)outpaces the Pixel XL in synthetic benchmarks. Just have a look at this nice comparison put together by PhoneArena: [url]http://www.phonearena.com/phones/OnePlus-3T_id10313/benchmarks[/URL]
Aside from the BaseMark OS II benchmark, the Pixel and Pixel XL, despite having very similar hardware, are beaten in almost every performance-measuring test. If we have such similar hardware, why is this happening? Could it be the new F2FS file system on the OP3T? Or the faster CPU clocks? Maybe Oxygen OS? What about a different CPU governor? But why then does the older OP3 perform similarly?
Even the Moto Z outpaces the Pixel in storage benchmarks. This topic is investigated here. With a different filesystem and some software trickery, the Pixel's storage speed might be bolstered immensely.
Listen, the Pixel is a seriously fast phone. Coming from my Nexus 5X, it's night and day. It's easily the best phone I've ever used. Period. But I can't help wonder some of the questions above. Perhaps the real question is, can we get the Pixel to match the performance of the OP3T?

I own both, the one plus is super nice and thin as far as performance goes there is no noticable difference in speed during real world usage. What i notice and long for is the brightness of the one plus screen is so much brighter than my pixel xl

But a simple answer would be we have the same processor but the pixel is factory underclocked , you want the same bench mark results simply root and overclock/ normalize your process speed

OP3T and Pixel do not have the same processor. There are 2 versions of the 821. One that uses the same power at a higher clock speed (OP3T) and one that uses less power at the same clock speed as the 820 (Pixel/Pixel XL). Additionally the OP3T has a 1080P screen which will also help with benchmarks.

Bingo! Our screen has a much higher resolution. Its not a fair apples to apples comparison.
Google also reduced the clock speed (slightly 200mhz I believe) to help maintain great battery performance.

A pentile screen at 1080p is wrong

How does the OP3T battery life compare to the Pixel XL considering the underclocked 821 but higher screen resolution of the XL?

On topic though, yes I have seen that OP3T is significantly faster than the Pixel and Pixel XL both, I don't know how, but rather than incredibly fast app opening times I would rather take a phone which performs smooth consistently, for as long as a phone stays at/near 60 frames, the better. From all the videos I have watched I noticed that OP3's default animation scale is set to a much lower rate than the Pixel.

The original OP3's LCD screen was dimmer than the Pixel Xl and I thought the new OP3 had the same screen as the original?
Anyhow, if you want a brighter Pixel XL screen... then you might consider rooting and then installing ElementalX kernel + the High Brightness Widget mod.
This combo will get you the same extra high brightness as the Samsung Note 7's auto-brightness when the HBM gets activated.

I don't know about that but I do know side by side it's visibly brighter. You can see below OPO 3t is blown out where as the pixel is exposed properly due to it letting off a smaller amount of light

I think you're confusing a blown out contrast/black level with a properly calibrated contrast/black level as being "brighter".

Yeah, the Pixel is waaaay better in that picture.

No buddy the screen looks great to the naked eye. you don't understand how cameras work, It's hard to show simple brightness in a picture. The reason it looks that way in the image is that it's letting off so much light that my camera settings over expose the image, but due to my pixel not letting off as much light it showed up perfectly fine in the image. There fore proving my point that the OPO 3t gets brighter than the pixel . With that said, They are both gorgeous displays

I don't really think firing the extra pixels is the whole reason behind the staggering difference in performance. Definitely during gaming, but app loading times, file transfers, raw CPU horsepower (crunching numbers) hardly have anything to do with the resolution of the screen.

I personally use both side by side as well. I have 2 pixel XL's and a 128gb OP3T.. after 3 weeks, in my humble opinion the pixel is much better and much smoother and faster than the OP3T..
I just can not emphasize enough what Google has done with the optimization of the software for the hardware with the pixel. It is just the smoothest nicest fastest beast of a device out there. And the pixel flat footed walkes all over my op3t when it comes to battery and camera.. not even a comparison.
Is the pixel XL worth the extra $400??? Depends what's important to you.. if camera and battery life, then yes.. even my iPhone 7 plus can't keep up with my pixels in those categories..
So yes, while the OP3T may be clocked slightly faster and has more ram... Day to day it is NOT faster than the pixel XL.
Btw, I do love the thin feel and build of the OP3T though.. and the front facing finger print reader!

Curious, how does the smoothness/fluidity of the OP3T compare to the Pixel? I've used dozens of Android and iPhones over the last 7 years and never has an Android phone been so consistently smooth; it's legitimately iPhone smooth.

Didn't have an S7 but did have a Note 4 Exynos and Honor 8 before I got the Redmi Note 7phone.
Honestly, speed will probably feel about the same since S7 had the Snapdragon 820 processor.
Gaming performance will probably be about the same as well.
The screen isn't amoled so if that matters to you, you're probably better skipping the Redmi Note 7 and getting the Mi 8(snapdragon 845) or the newer Mi 9(snapdragon 855 with quad hd and dual speakers).
Either of those will definitely be an upgrade to your S7 in multiple ways...
Processor, functionality, performance, build quality, battery life, camera, gaming etc
Mi 8 can now be had for under $400 new as well if price matters to you

I want to know how is thé remdi's camera compared to S7 has a good One. My brother buyed à redmi Note 5 pro and S7 photos are much better

I'm not sure... S7 photos may be a little better since it was the flagship of the year a couple years back.
If you're worried about photos, I'd get the Mi 8 or if you can afford... Skip the Xiaomi budget line altogether and go straight for the The Mi 9.
Don't get me wrong... Redmi Note 7 or it's twin brother Mi 8 Lite are both spectacular phones especially for the money to value quotient. They pack a hell of a punch and are popular globally for a reason but coming from the S7, if you're not willing to compromise a little bit in the area of video and photo quality, you're better off shopping for a Xiaomi flagship.
Either phone (Mi 8 or Mi 9) is the flagship experience you want but the Mi 9 will blow you away and be the true upgrade you're looking for

I just got a Redmi Note 7 today, and it will replace a ZTE Axon 7 (Snapdragon 820, like the US version S7), so I'm in a similar position.
Haven't used it much yet, but initial impressions are very good. I just run some tests on both phones in Geekbench Pro, and the Redmi Note 7 won in some areas, while the Axon 7 still smoked it in some tests. You're right, the overall performance should feel pretty similar to the S7.
Benchmarks aside, I'm happy to have a new device that is fully up to date - stock Pie (that I'll dump in favor of LOS as soon as I'm able, haha), a big battery and efficient CPU, a really fast fingerprint scanner in a natural position (meaning NOT on the front), a big screen (any bigger wouldn't fit my pocket), VOLTE, a decent camera, and some support on XDA. It took me a while to decide to buy it because I was concerned about it not having an OLED screen but now I don't think it's going to be an issue - it looks good. Works with Mint Mobile (T-Mobile) here.
Only Day 1, but I'm satisfied so far, especially for $200!

RN7 is way better .. except for the sound quality and the weight (rn7 is heavy lol)

Use it for a while.... If you don't like it, sell it for a more expensive flagship.
For me it's so good I don't feel the need to have a flagship phone anymore!

I finally replaced my S7 and for now I am completely satisfied except the camera. I will test Gcam and see the result...

I got it this morning and yes, the redmi is so heavy. Sound Quality is better on xiaomi but i was using dual speaker sounds on S7 wich makes a plaisent stéréo effect. Camera is a bit better on S7 Thanks to live HDR, dual pixel technology and à good noise réduction.

Yes Redmi note 7 is next level in term of screen size, entertaining purpose, everyday all around. Battery life 2 days on minimal use. Picture not as good as s7 edge

I replaced Huawei P10 whit RN7 and I'm surprised how better it is comparing to P10. Screen picture quality is way better and camera whit Gcam too. P10 have Leica lense blā, blā, but I don't like Leica look and that camera overexposes picture, loses detail in texture whit smoothing, makes picture to oversaturated and colors too neutral. RN7 whit GCam is neutral, exposes good and colors are good. If You like overprocessed pictures then You might want different camera app.
P10 is not S7, but I can say this phone is good. Only complains are weight, and writing is a bit hard for Me in position as I hold the phone. Of course there is minor things like screen is a bit less bright comparing to P10, plastic body, speaker can be more clear, still usb 2.0, no nfc, no IP rating etc. If You don't want to spend alot of money on phone as I do then this is solid choice. For that extra 250€ I would spend on phone I can buy alot of different things for Me.

Both my wife and I just bought the RN7 yesterday to replace both of our S7 Edge, personally I notice the screen resolution difference between the two, I miss the notifications staying at the top, miss the app draw and the camera start up speed is a lot faster than the RN7. The main reason why we switched though is the battery life, both of ours are the US version which use the Snapdragon CPU which only give us around 4 hr SOT, and I pretty much have to charge 2 or 3 times a day (yah on my phone all day long ) , now with the RN7, without doing anything, I just got 8 hr SOT with 10% left ....so yah wire free all day and way cheaper than a flagship Samsung, I know I can get over the cons very soon.

Plus we can help you negate some of the flaws
To get the original look with the added app drawer, install Poco Launcher from the Play Store and you're done with that part.
Screen res? Can you actually notice S7's higher pixels per inch count? Nothing to do about that though.
To overcome the lack of permanent notifications at the top, install Notch Test (Notifications for MIUI) and set up the position, give all permissions to the app, autostart, set battery restrictions to none, and lock it in the app switcher so MIUI can't kill it off. I have the icons position set to 215 from the left and 36 from the top. Works great and mitigates the issue completely (issue for those of us not coming from MIUI, accustomed to "permanent" notifications).
Camera start-up - nothing to do about that unless Xiaomi updates the firmware to do so. GCam takes even more to start, but the image it produces is more than worth the wait.

S10e upgrade

Hi guys,
Apologies if this is the wrong thread but wasn't sure where to post this.
Quick question....
I currently have the s10e. Is it worth upgrading to the note 10, s20 or s20+?
Main things for me are battery life, portability and performance, not bothered about the camera as I hardly ever use it.

Just don't get the exynos version.. and get s20>note10
I have the snapdragon s20plus U1
It is fantastic all around.
Only "issue" is face id is not reliable enough and fingerprint is not as good as the 7 pro I came from but works well after you get the muscle memory down.
I had the s10e and hell yes s20 would be nice upgrade imo. 120hz is very nice.
I'd recommend the plus but the regular s20 wouldn't be as big a jump in size for you as the plus would be.
Attached the trade in value on Samsung site.
I got 600 for a pixel 4 I paid 400 for.

The problem is that I'm in UK (London) so here we only have the exynos version. I'd have to import the Snapdragon version from a reputable website seller which I'll need to do research on
I kinda figured the s20 plus would be the sensible choice, but I keep thinking is the extra 500mah on the s20 plus worth the extra £100 from the regular s20

I also switched from the S10e. Yes, it's bigger but after a few days you'll get used to it. I got the exynos version because I live in Romania, but I do not recommend. It gets pretty hot and the games play better on s10e(real racing 3). Battery life it's better with 120hz display. Tomorrow I'll get the snapdragon and for a few days I will have them both. I opened a thread in "discussion" and I'll post the differences.

Maybe pixel 4xl for you then (do not get regular P4) or maybe a oneplus? I would not get the exy s20 for sure.
I mean....the s10e still good too.

If you're coming from an S10E SD855 version then it wont be worth it unless they make some improvements or if the issues currently bogging people down is software related and will be fixed eventually on the Exynos 990 versions. The SD865 versions of the S20 is pretty much solid from battery life to not heating up as much = in turn not thermal throttling which leads to low fps in games and maybe some hitching/chugging when browsing regularly. If its software related and they can make improvements on it then it wouldn't be so bad.

If you are still on the fence, here are some things to consider:
1. S20 and S10e are the same width, but S20 is 7% taller (5.97 mm vs 5.60 mm) so you'll have to stretch a little more to reach S20 notification panel
2. S20 display is 7% larger (6.2" vs 5.8")
3. S20 screen pixel density is 29% higher (566 ppi vs 438 ppi)
4. Screen-to-body ratio. S20 88.6% vs S10e 83.4%. That doesn't sound like much difference, but you see the difference when placed side-by-side
5. S20 battery is 29% larger (4000 mAh vs 3100 mAh)
6. S20 has twice as much RAM (12 GB vs 6 GB)
7. S20 camera is better
8. S20 will be supported longer
9. S10e fingerprint reader is better
10. S10e has 3.5 mm audio jack

You're right I am still on the fence, but looking at the s20+ now because of the bigger battery
I know it'll be a wider which I'll have to deal with, the tallness doesn't bother me though as I can just swipe down anywhere on the screen to bring down notifications (Nova)
Battery lasting all day is an absolute must
Not bothered about the camera, never really take any pictures of anything
Performance is a big thing, needs to be snappy like this s10e

There isn't much difference in size between S10e and S20. However, you *will* feel the difference in size between S10e and S20+. The S20+ is noticeably taller and a little wider.
The S20 and S20+ have the same basic specifications. With the S20+ you are essentially paying $200 more for 8% larger display, 13% larger battery, mmWave 5G, and a time-of-flight sensor. Other than that, they are the same phone.
I almost bought a S20, but ended up getting the S20+ primarily for the larger battery. I had a Note 10, and the S20+ battery is noticeably better. It has never dropped below 20% before bedtime.
I also use Nova Launcher, and I set all developer option animations to 0.3x, and Nova look & feel and scroll speed animations to "Faster than light", and the S20+ flies. Multitasking is silky-smooth with 12 GB RAM, no hiccups for freezes whatsoever. I don't play a lot of games, but the games I do have are loaded quickly and I have not noticed any stuttering.
I thought I'd miss the headphone jack with my Note 10, but I got Galaxy Buds and they sound pretty good. I have some USB adapters for my wired buds, but I rarely use them. The Galaxy Buds aren't audiophile-level quality, so if you are a hardcore audiophile, then you probably want to stick with a phone with a 3.5 mm port.
As I mentioned before, the under display fingerprint reader of the S20 is really disappointing. The S20+ scanner reads my FP about 70% of the time. I've rescanned my finger many times, and I also setup the same finger as a "secondary finger", and it still works only 70% of the time. My Note 10 had the same FP reader, and it sucked too. I started using face recognition and PIN on my Note 10, and I do the same on my S20+.
Other than the crappy FP reader and no 3.5 mm port, the S20+ is pretty much flawless imo. I don't miss my Note 10 at all (I rarely used the Spen). I am sure you will enjoy a S20 or S20+. But whether it is worth $1000/1200 (minus whatever you get for your S10e) is up to you.

OnePlus 8 pro vs pixel 4 xl

Anyone here coming from a pixel 4 xl?
I'm between those 2 devices and I live in Europe. I currently own a pixel 2xl and I'm pretty happy with the pixel experience so far.
For me, the pros of the pixel 4 are the camera obviously , the flat screen and the price (less than 650€ on Amazon)
Pros of the 8 pro are more modern hardware , more versatile camera , better battery and much higher brightness screen.
If someone has owned or used both can give me an opinion? Does the extra cost of 8 pro is justified?

Real pros from the 8 pro to be honest is better battery and better looking ..( and brighter screen)
Otherwise Pixel...

Forgot to mention that I'm not a gamer so I'm not chasing the latest and fastest hardware.
Dual SIM is also something useful for me and I'm not really sure how well pixel manages that with the e-sim.

I've had both. I was surprised how good the 8 pro was, this is my first oneplus device. The fingerprint scanner and face scanner are very fast. The face scanner is instantaneous. The display is beautiful and very bright, and 120hz is just smooth as lighting. The speakers are very good and loud and connecting to Bluetooth is flawless. The phone is very fast with the 865. The battery lasts all day for me, which none of my other phones really ever have. The cameras are pretty damn good. I'm definitely keeping this phone, I (unfortunately) returned the p4xl.

Obviously I don't have either but I think pixel and op are the only Android manufacturers that give attention to haptic feedback and even on the 7 that I have tried is really good. Better than my p2xl.

I had the Pixel4XL and now the OnePlus 8Pro ghere are my opinion:
positive points of the OnePlus 8 Pro:
"unsafe" unlock via the camera works instant, I had to hold the pixel often at an "extra" angle to unlock it
Finance and other critical apps are extra unlocked by the fingerprint
extremely smooth in the handling and the display is nearly perfect
well optimized Android-OS
Fingerprint Sensor
again screen is fantastic
phone design

Hi, thanks for the comparison. In your last point do you mean the camera in dark room or the screen? Does the 8 pro screen have issues with low brightness?
What do you think about the battery life of the 2? Is it significant better in 8 pro? Thanks again

In very dark environment the screen has issues, but if I hadn't read about them I wouldn't probably recognize them
The battery life (in my case with 2 sims) in the OnePlus 8 Pro is much better.

I sold my 4xl to get a oneplus 8 pro and the 8 pro is better in just about every way.
The display is the best ever. It's fast and smooth. It looks and feels better (ok, my opinion). Battery is definitely better. Brightness is crazy good. I can actually see it in sunlight. Not so much with the 4xl.
The 4xl camera is better, but not by much and only certain aspects are better.
Video is better on the 8 pro and I've been loving the wide angle lens which isn't on the 4xl. And the macro is great too..
Regular point and shoot I give to the 4xl but it's close enough not to really matter.
If you're ok with the money, run to the 8 pro. It's an outstanding phone.

For me it is the best phone after the Pixel 2XL at that time.
PS. I use it as my private and work phone

Should I upgrade from Samsung?

I currently own a Samsung S10+. Previously I had Oneplus 6. I moved to Samsung as it had a better camera.
How does it fair when compared to flagships from Samsung(in the camera department)?
I don't intend to buy another Samsung phone(I don't like the software and miss the snappy oneplus).
One more thing is that I feel it is a rather quick change of phones like just after one year.
Should I buy OP8pro?

if camera is important for you you should be looking at p40 pro, find x2 pro (sister company of oneplus), mi 10 pro.
i will recommend oneplus 8 pro if overall value for the money and also if your only option for samsung is exynos.
but if only s20 ultra snapdragon is available in my country i will stick with that to be honest. i sold my s20 ultra exynos and now i have oneplus 8 pro no regrets.

I switched from Note 10+ because I don't need s-pen so much. And OP8 Pro feels a lot smoother, like ....a lot. Animations from Samsung One UI looks good on s20 with 120hz, on 60Hz screen it feels laggy.
Some comprasion:
- Camera, identical for me
- battery the same but with 120hz
- software faster an lighter, but One UI is ok too.
- fingerprint scanner - my God, it's enormous difference
- face scan about 2 times faster and with higher angle
- snapdragon is far way better than exynos, no doubt
- speakers seems to be good on both
- haptics are different than Samsung's, but feels premium too.
I'm really satisfied with OP8 Pro and for me it's best Android phone so far. Maybe p40 has better camera but the difference is really tiny, you should compare them screen to screen to see the difference.
In my opinion OnePlus did fantastic job this year.
