Nougat Webview inplementation on G5Plus - Weird - Moto G5 Plus Questions & Answers

Hi Guy's. I've been running CM/LineageOs on my phones since forever, so I'm not really familiar about the default behaviours of stock android, and there's something that is bothering me on my G5 that I'm not sure is related to the system itself or to some sort of settings, and would be really thankful if someone could help me out.
Basically, in LineageOS 14.1 when you follow a link sent by someone, the link will open as a new tab on your default browser (be it the AOSP or Chrome, or any browser you choose to be your default). That's been the standard behaviour in all versions of CM till this day (I've been using it since CM7) as far as I know.
However, on my G5Plus, still running stock android due to warranty, everytime I follow a link or click my weather widget, instead of opening a normal tab on my default browser, I'll get this small rectangle that loads the page, but has no controls like the default browser, which is quite annoying in my opinion as I could want or need to save this page as a favourite, print it or do whatever I feel like with it, and this Webview rectangle won't allow me to do any of that. I'm not sure I've made myself clear, so I'm adding a picture of what happens to illustrate it. In the picture, I'm following a link sent to me by a contact through a IM application.
If someone nows what I could do to make sure all links open as a new tab on the default browser, I would really appreciate the help. Sorry for the noob question, but on my (now dead) Galaxy S4 running LOS14.1 and on my Nexus 7 running stock MM, this doesn't happen.

I think this is some third party browser app which you have set as default.

Not really. I only have Chrome installed (it came pre-installed on my XT1683).

This has nothing to do with webview or chrome. You Mist have a third party App installed

Actually I've just found out what was the matter. For some reason, Setup Wizard (a system application) was acting like a browser. This is a common problem with other devices running Nougat as I just found out (Samsung Galaxy S6, S7, S8, Nexus 5x, and many others). I've found the solution on a Google Pixel forum, and what needs to be done is to disable setup wizard. As my phone was just taken out of the box, and the only third party app installed was WhatsApp I'm pretty sure this bug is within the system.

Camera Failed [Solved]

I am not sure whether this thread is off topic or not. But this problem is really boring and I wish somebody can look into it and find a permanent solution.
My tab is international version, no matter I flash the DXKM2 stock firmware or Roto's JME-V4 with CF-Root, I always encounter the camera failed error. But it do works before I install any 3rd software.
So far I doubt it's due to some system application removal, because I have another Galaxy S with exactly same 3rd party software installed without this problem. I only deleted some unnecessary built-in apps in system folder. Here is the list I deleted apps:
IMEs (I use TouchPal for Chinese input)
Samsung widgets (I like very clear homepage)
Ebooks (I use ibook)
Live wallpapers (to reduce power consumption)
Email (I use K-9 mail)
Samsung Unified Inbox
SNS (Chinese can't use facebook)
It's very weired that I didn't install anything since last time to take picture. Seems like the pad idles certain time then the camera has problem itself.
Anybody encountered same problem like me and even found the root causes? Please help.
Update:
OK, I found the root cause by deleting files one by one. Found that the Email.apk and Email.odex can't be deleted. Once I copy back those two files from backup, and restart, the camera functions well now.

In all the cases above, the camera start failing at some point after an install of 3rd party software.
and I believe in their case, the camera works on stock rom.

[Q] Zoon in browser, how to get it back?

hi there, i recently bought my first android, a nexus 7 and before i started to mess with it, i noticed something cool that i been missing a lot on apple devices: when i clicked small buttons or links in the browser, it zoomed that area so it was easier to choose. SUPER COOL i thought..
ofcourse later i had to root it, change rom to PA, and all the stuff a new android newbie has to, and i didn't really see this little feature anymore, is it something i have to install again, did i loose it when changing from stock rom > PA rom? don't even know what this "feature" is called
any help appreciated

I can't get it to work all the time, but it seems to happen most often on dropdown menu links or where there's a lot of small links close together (like page number links in a long thread on XDA.) I'm still not 100% sure what activates it, but I just loaded this subforum on my Nexus 7 and touched the lag thread title/page number links and it popped up magnified. Same thing for the "Quick Links" dropdown menu at the top of the page. I clicked the menu, then tried to click "Social Groups" and the section of the list I was on became magnified. I think it only happens when there's a certain text density on the screen, because when I zoom in I eventually stop getting the magnification box, but at that point it's really easy to click individual links.

Does Paranoid android use Chrome? It probably doesn't. That very useful feature is a google chrome thing. Here is the Play Store link https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.android.chrome&hl=en
And if at any time android ask's you which browser to open, tap on chrome and tap on "Remember" or something like that.
as there is no other browser on stock on nexus 7 i assume you have been using chrome before. and this feature pops up most likely when you are not zoomed in and navigate through a site where diffrent links are very close together. just to avoid clicking the wrong link of course.
as McMichael96 said, you can just install chrome afterwards when using 4.0+ on your nexus which is quite common obviously haha.
maybe you should also check out the other browsers which are available in the market which also have their unique advantages compared to e.g. chrome.
for once there is Opera Mobile, which renders the text on pages when you zoom in to match the screen width which makes it very easy read without scrolling sideways.
for chrome, the major advantage is, if you are using chrome on other devices as well, that everything is synced.
if using e.g. opera on other devices, syncing is available as well.
there are even more browsers like firefox (which i don't like much) even though favourites and bookmarks are accessable quite nice, dolphin browser which is very popular and have a sleek userinterface, or more.
consider to give them a try... happy to hear your feedback after trying out. cheers.

Android Lolipop (New) Features

Android L comes with a ton of new features. Here's a list of new features, courtesy of AndroidPolice!
http://www.androidpolice.com/2014/1...y-lets-users-copy-data-from-specific-devices/
tl;dr: Switching to a new Android device has always been a pain, especially when it comes to transferring all of your apps and whatnot. The restore option when you first setup a device restores everything on your Google account, which can be unnecessary sometimes. Luckily, Lollipop has a new slick solution. When setting up a device, you have the options of copying Google account and app data from your current device(s) using Android Beam and Bluetooth. The second option is to restore from a specific device - you have the option of selecting individual apps.

http://www.androidpolice.com/2014/1...the-dismiss-all-notifications-button-is-back/
tl;dr: You can clear all of your notifications at once with the dismiss all button. Although this has been standard on CM for ages. I never knew Stock Android had it missing.

tl;dr: Two-step verification is easier than ever now. The process is much smoother than before.
--
http://www.androidpolice.com/2014/1...r-device-brings-along-gray-placeholder-icons/
tl;dr: You get placeholders when you want to restore apps from your Google account. That way, you can see just what apps you are installing and how long it takes before they install. It's much nicer implementation than before.
--
http://www.androidpolice.com/2014/1...ch-notifications-when-quick-settings-is-open/
tl;dr: You can interact with notifications while you have quick settings open. This was buggy in the developer preview but now it works flawlessly.

http://www.androidpolice.com/2014/1...now-prioritizes-frequently-used-destinations/
tl;dr: One of the great things about Android is how easy it is to share what you want to whichever apps you want. This new feature lists the places you most commonly share to when you want to share something.
--
http://www.androidpolice.com/2014/1...o-a-single-app-before-handing-it-to-a-friend/
t;dr: This seems like an extremely useful feature. Basically, you can lock the screen to one app. I know we have all had those weird moment's where you hand someone your phone to make a "call" and they end up looking in places they shouldn't be.

http://www.androidpolice.com/2014/1...rns-the-status-bar-and-nav-bar-bright-orange/
tl;dr: When you enter Lollipop's new power saving mode, your status and nav bar turn orange.
Personally, I don't like this too much. It would be nice if we could at least pick the color.
More new features, courtesy of AndroidPolice!

Pretty much a copy pasta from AP. I think it's useful even if it doesn't transfer 3rd party apps data over because it makes the entire process of moving to another device that much quicker and more efficient.
Another one:
The calculator has been revamped. When you are doing some calculation the result is previewed *before* you press enter. Very handy! It doesn't end there. When you clear the result there is this super cool swiping animation that sweeps your calculation. Just visual, but very nice detail.
They have a new feature where they removed features !
you can't long press an app on the home screen and get the pop up Info / remove bubble to force stop it without having to go into settings / apps

Nothing new. Dismiss button is just on right bottom. In KK is on top right.

Oh gotcha. I just took it straight from AP, didn't realize that was on Stock. I wouldn't know though, since I've mainly used CM and always thought it was a CM feature. lol

I hope those animations can be disabled. I hate animations.
You should be able to disable them in developer options.

I'm considering buying a G6 but want to ask some existing G6 owners a few questions

(I have a few questions for any of you who own a LG G6 or other LG phone running their version of Android 7.0 so expand the description if you want to see those questions)
I found a demo LG G6, and decided to try it out, to find out that...
LG actually uses the Google emoji from stock Android!!! Yes!!!!!
Unlike that Sam-suck Galaxy S8 that uses their crappy and hard to read emoji that I absolutely hate.
I also found that LG's version of Android also has custom font support. Hopefully it's actually using FlipFont, because if that's the case, I could load my custom Comic Neue font package that I have on my Galaxy Tab A and use that.
(Does LG's Android use FlipFont or another font system where I can easily create a custom font package to use there?)
LG's Android also has custom theme support, so hopefully there's a theme that can make it look like stock Android 7.0, but sadly, the demo G6 I tried wasn't connected to WiFi. I already know LG's custom launcher has 2 versions, one with an app drawer and one without.
(Is there a theme for LG phones that can make it look like stock Android?)
Another thing I didn't notice in reviews on YouTube is that the power button is combined with the fingerprint sensor. Nice!!
Plus, LG's Android does have user changeable DPI settings. Hopefully that setting doesn't only affect LG apps.
One thing I forgot to check is if LG's Android has a blue light filter, which CyanogenMod does have.
(Does LG's version of Android have some kind of blue light filter or "night mode"?)
Even then, I'm probably not gonna upgrade my phone this year, because I had already gone through so much trouble trying to sign back in to all my apps after transferring to the Galaxy Tab A WiFi+cellular, unless there is an Android app (that does not require root) that can actually preserve app data so I would be able to continue right where I left off after switching to a new phone.
With that, I am considering getting a G6 (in silver or black, 64GB) (either that, or I might wait for either the G7 or whatever the next OnePlus will be called) but want to ask some questions, mainly pertaining to the software experience, which is my main deciding factor when it comes to buying an Android device.
Anyway, just open the spoiler thing above if you don't understand why I'm asking the following questions.

I tried, but I couldn't find it.
Closest I found was a "Pixel" theme, but I think I might be able to combine that with Nova Launcher + one of those stock Android icon packs for 3rd party launchers + Google Gboard + a bunch of stock Android apps that Google has uploaded to the Play Store, to get as close to stock Android as possible, or I might wait for LineageOS or another custom rom with the stock Android UI to be released for the G6.
(I do like using Nova Launcher Prime because one of the things it allows me to do is to hide a number of the Samsung apps and bloatware on my Galaxy Tab A, plus I can hide the app drawer behind a double tap gesture)

You can actually hide apps in the stock launchers too.

Not possible to lock clipped items to stock clipboard?

All my previous Samsung Galaxy phones Note 2/3 S3/S4 and LG G4 allowed items to be pinned to the stock clipboard, for some weird reason on my Note 4 SM-N910H with stock 6.01 that functionality has been removed, there is only the option to delete all or hold down on any clip and delete just that one, no option to pin?
Am I not seeing something or is this functionality been removed?
If it has been removed is there any workaround on unrooted stock firmware, or a clipboard app that is seamless/replace the stock?
I'm not hopeful on the above! :crying:

Thanks for the recommendation, it doesn't replace the native clip board pop-up though if I get its operation correctly, you need a notification or some kind of bubble/status running?
Its sad to need to install another app just for one feature that used to be there before, why oh why do oem's screw around with their basic functionality. Like the weird slow inertial scrolling on the Note 4(seems the S6 also had it), such a basic thing why stuff it up!

If you configure it properly you won't know it's there until you actually copy something, then you get a notification about the copied item, but you can also tweak this in the settings. Think there is a free version you can try out: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.rojekti.clipper
