Not possible to lock clipped items to stock clipboard? - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

All my previous Samsung Galaxy phones Note 2/3 S3/S4 and LG G4 allowed items to be pinned to the stock clipboard, for some weird reason on my Note 4 SM-N910H with stock 6.01 that functionality has been removed, there is only the option to delete all or hold down on any clip and delete just that one, no option to pin?
Am I not seeing something or is this functionality been removed?
If it has been removed is there any workaround on unrooted stock firmware, or a clipboard app that is seamless/replace the stock?
I'm not hopeful on the above! :crying:

I very much like Clipper Plus - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=fi.rojekti.clipper
Been using since my very first Android device and never had a problem with it. Very useful.

Thanks for the recommendation, it doesn't replace the native clip board pop-up though if I get its operation correctly, you need a notification or some kind of bubble/status running?
Its sad to need to install another app just for one feature that used to be there before, why oh why do oem's screw around with their basic functionality. Like the weird slow inertial scrolling on the Note 4(seems the S6 also had it), such a basic thing why stuff it up!

If you configure it properly you won't know it's there until you actually copy something, then you get a notification about the copied item, but you can also tweak this in the settings. Think there is a free version you can try out: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.rojekti.clipper

[Q] multi-tasking question

hi, since I've been using honeycomb in my A500 and got to used the Xoom and Galaxy tab I noted that I can only have 5 apps on the multi-task buttom.
Is there a way that i can increase the number of apps on the multitasking buttom like Xoom and Glaxy Tab??
3.1 includes an update to show your last 18 apps in place of the 5 currently in 3.0
As far as I know, that button only shows recently opened apps, not running apps... but I too am looking forward to being able to see more.
To be honest, the whole multitasking concept on Android is an utter mess; I can never know if the application I just used is still running in the background or not unless the application itself places an icon in the systray, and there is no quick, logical way of seeing all running applications and switching between them. If you want to see all the running ones you have to jump through several hoops, and the recently opened - list doesn't indicate which ones are still running and which ones aren't.
I really hate it.

Bump. Needs a built in logical easy to use task manager that clearly shows what is running and offers options to close/disable said app.
Not really the way android works, I find keeping a copy of atk around on my rooted device helps a lot - remove the crap that you don't use, keep an eye on running tasks and free ram.
It would be nice if they would put in a little icon to indicate which apps are open in the recent app menu, maybe even on the app icons themselves on the home screen or whatever. I don't think it'd be that hard to implement.

Even something as simple as a small green sphere -- with 1px or 2px black edge around it for clarity -- next to the running applications' icons would already help. You'd still have to jump through hoops to shut them down though if they don't offer such a menu option themselves.
All in all, Android is terribly confusing and definitely isn't all that end-user-friendly. Like for example, there is no kind of help menu in any of the built-in apps, only a select few 3rd party apps offer such, meaning that it's tough for a Jane the Newcomer to figure out what's what. Then the aforementioned multitasking mess. Not to mention the fact that Android Market is a total mess itself too; Google doesn't have any kind of a validation system in place so there's all kinds of scam apps and crapware there, and apps are not even always in the correct category either. Inconsistency on controls is also a hindrance as I think Google should create very specific guidelines for basic UI management and controls. And don't get me started on topics about how things are under the hood..

that's what i thought. Google have some big mess in all their android devices.
I didn't knew if it was right to call the recently open item a multitasking because it was somehow confusing and I think I read in the android developer page for honeycomb explains that as multitasking.
I hate the store in Puerto Rico, I'm using market enabler to get some apps because I can't see a full market and even download some apps for country limitations. I don't even have the Tablet section

[Q] Zoon in browser, how to get it back?

hi there, i recently bought my first android, a nexus 7 and before i started to mess with it, i noticed something cool that i been missing a lot on apple devices: when i clicked small buttons or links in the browser, it zoomed that area so it was easier to choose. SUPER COOL i thought..
ofcourse later i had to root it, change rom to PA, and all the stuff a new android newbie has to, and i didn't really see this little feature anymore, is it something i have to install again, did i loose it when changing from stock rom > PA rom? don't even know what this "feature" is called
any help appreciated

I can't get it to work all the time, but it seems to happen most often on dropdown menu links or where there's a lot of small links close together (like page number links in a long thread on XDA.) I'm still not 100% sure what activates it, but I just loaded this subforum on my Nexus 7 and touched the lag thread title/page number links and it popped up magnified. Same thing for the "Quick Links" dropdown menu at the top of the page. I clicked the menu, then tried to click "Social Groups" and the section of the list I was on became magnified. I think it only happens when there's a certain text density on the screen, because when I zoom in I eventually stop getting the magnification box, but at that point it's really easy to click individual links.

Does Paranoid android use Chrome? It probably doesn't. That very useful feature is a google chrome thing. Here is the Play Store link https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.android.chrome&hl=en
And if at any time android ask's you which browser to open, tap on chrome and tap on "Remember" or something like that.
as there is no other browser on stock on nexus 7 i assume you have been using chrome before. and this feature pops up most likely when you are not zoomed in and navigate through a site where diffrent links are very close together. just to avoid clicking the wrong link of course.
as McMichael96 said, you can just install chrome afterwards when using 4.0+ on your nexus which is quite common obviously haha.
maybe you should also check out the other browsers which are available in the market which also have their unique advantages compared to e.g. chrome.
for once there is Opera Mobile, which renders the text on pages when you zoom in to match the screen width which makes it very easy read without scrolling sideways.
for chrome, the major advantage is, if you are using chrome on other devices as well, that everything is synced.
if using e.g. opera on other devices, syncing is available as well.
there are even more browsers like firefox (which i don't like much) even though favourites and bookmarks are accessable quite nice, dolphin browser which is very popular and have a sleek userinterface, or more.
consider to give them a try... happy to hear your feedback after trying out. cheers.

not happy with jelly bean

ok, so few days ago I updated my note to official samsung ota jb release. After updating I did not see much improvement, apps open/close faster, not sure if they actually do or is it just faster animation then there is some blocking mode in the settings which is like a new feature, also virtual keyboard is easier to move around the screen, so this is the good stuff, now the bad.
I have haptic feedback off or I HAD, now everytime time I move icons tablet vibrates, also when shutting down. How do I completely swith it off? also notifications, I have spen detection swithed off, now everytime I remove spen the ugly notification appears informing me i just removed spen and stays in the notifications menu... unnesesary and a waste of screen space?
The notification menu is a mess now, it can now scroll up and down
also when shutting down ugly message appears telling me the tablet is shuting down
also had to download from internet and install additional keyboard language, when previously just had to set it in options and that was all
is it possible to bring back the old look and feel while keeping the new features(the butter thingy and a new keyboard)?

No. And a lot of the changes you're referencing are between Android 4.0.4 and 4.1 and have nothing to do with Samsung's implementation of JB. Some features are changed in the OS, Samsung's apps (EG: S Note, the Gallery), and the behavior of some functions, settings, and apps are different too. ICS to JB on the Note was a big overhaul so I wouldn't expect another one during the Note's lifespan; future changes are likely to be simple tweaks. So things that are gone are gone and things we have aren't likely to change significantly. If you want ICS back search on "Odin" and follow the instructions.
Cant I do a factory reset? or my original firmware is no more?

When you update the new s/w becomes your recovery so if you reset it'll still be JB. You can download the ICS version for your region from Samsung-Updates or Samfirmware and install it via Odin.
Reads as a bad update to me unless JB is a special firmware for you .
Wipe phone and as said flash stock rom .
Or contact Samsung service centre .

Its not that a tablet is unusable, everything works fine, its because with ics it was all nice and tidy and now with jb its annoying with its excesive notifications. To me it feels a bit like a step back.

Do what I did, buy an extra pen and a case that will hold it. Make sure that power saving for pen is disabled,
Use the new pen and leave the old on in it's slot. Since you don't remove it, then it doesn't notify, but all works with the new one
Ive got the case already, but the extra pen idea is sweet, also because the original pen while works well feels a bit cheap and plastic(also too small and too thin and has no eraser).
What pen did you buy?
I have noticed much of a change myself
ok so another thing I just noticed, when opening youtube links in opera (my current browser, also useragent set to desktop) youtube app launches and it tries to display the vid and in case with several music vids Ive just tried it gives me a message saying that user has not made this vid available for mobile users or smth like that. now wtf is this bullcrap? this has never happened while i was on ics and also the same vids used to work both in the browser and in youtube app. now I am seriously considering a downgrade
Ive disabled youtube app and now when opening a link I get a message that no application is available to open it (and then opera still opens it). I guess I need to change file association thing (which app opens which files so basicly disable youtube app opening links) does anyone know how to do that?
edit: also youtube playback stops when switching to other tab
So I have decided to downgrade, now just have to find original firmware and Iam set.

You need to "Clear defaults" in each app that you want Android to forget the associations you set.

A couple of people have voiced issues with some of the changes in JB. I share your view; so much is improved that some of Samsung's changes to apps and functions are really minor in comparison. But, look at it this way, some people won't touch a device with an overlay while others swear by them. Different strokes.
You misunderstand, I like updates and I like new things, what I dont like is when features are removed, when I am forced to you use apps which I dont want to use or which dont work (youtube example, alot of music vids are restricted in the app while working perfectly in the browser, haptic feedback, I have it switched off yet the tablet still vibrates when shutting down or when the icons are being rearanged, ok fine but why there isnt a festure to COMPLETELY disable haptic feedback), when completely useless things are added (stupid and more importantly unnecesary notifications eg shutting down, spen removed...)
so yeah bring new and updated firmware not a steaming pile of crap
btw the "clear default" method doesnt work

You realize that a large portion of the forum has been on JB since November. There have been very few issues and pages of threads discussing the benefits of the new features. If what you're reporting as problems were affecting a lot of people there would have been more posts about them. Frankly, I don't really understand what most of your problems are based on the way you described them. I haven't had any YouTube issues since updating to JB in November and don't remember seeing any reported. So in describing the update as a "streaming pile of crap" you're kind of on your on in feeling that way.

It clears app association so it does "work." If it doesn't fix your problem that's another thing. You might want to try a hard reset and start from scratch.

I hated jellybean on my galaxy tab 2 7.0. But they did a awesome job of tweaking it for Note 10.1. I get serious battery life. Barely notice jellybean being on it. This tablet is fast and smooth. I love premium suite. I would wipe partition and user data and start again.
s pen
Go into settings and down to s pen, in that menu is an option that says something like change what option when s pen is removed... change it to "nothing"
ps I happen to freaking LOVE this jb update!! It's so great night fast...!

Note 10.1 2014: few steps back? advice on rooting p605?

coming from n8000. Just got my p605 yesterday, disliked some of the things I've seen and wonder if they are common problems faced by others and perhaps solution for them.
1)air view doesn't scroll through pics in gallery or auto preview videos
2) pen window sucks. Is there any way to invoke mini apps like in the older generation note? Why change things when there isn't any problems
3) I'm syncing from my note 2, although it says calendar and s note synced, doesn't appear on my new tablet
4) polaris office 5 does not accept annotation saving on doc or ppt format, only pptx and docx. There is forever something wrong with polaris
5) is there any way to disable air command on a per app basis. For example lecture notes app i would want to use stylus button for changing input method to eraser
6) is there any way to disable s finder when long pressing menu button? I would want Google now to come out instead
7) ezpdf is much laggier and stuttering as compared to using on first gen
8) YouTube experience some stuttering when playing videos
9) weird white lines when using lasso screen cut function, moving the small lasso toolbox
I would need to root it, after reading a lot there doesn't seem to be much support or tutorial for rooting p605.
Is there any way, using cf auto root, which will not break Samsung warranty?
What is it about knox flag and efuse? The only thing i care about is not breaking warranty (or can break but able to reset back counter) and I'm not a business user. I would also like to continue receiving updates on root.
So is there any method which allow me to do it? I've read about universal de something method but it isn't very familiar to me and I'll prefer to stick to older way like cf auto root or odin.
Thank you so much for the time!
2. Install Pen Window Launcher.
6. Open S Voice, go to settings, change the option for home button.

It's a very different tablet my friend with very different s/w and approaches. I got rid of my N8000 because I replaced my N7100 with a N3 and the differences between the two (the N2's like the N8000 and the N3's like the N10.1-14) were driving me crazy. There's some stuff on the N10.1-14 that's odd (EG: full screen notification panel, phone UI features on a tablet) but you get used to them after using it a while. For me, there's more than enough benefit to make up for some of the strangeness.

I like the new multiview approach better than the old one. The former cascade/dual window approach was kind of schizophrenic. There are a lot more options now (two of the same app, save apps combinations so they open in pairs, and pen window). It's great that I can use the same approach on both my N3/N10.1-14 rather than the different approaches used by the N2/N10.1-12. Some people like the old approach and some like the new approach better. To each their own.

Probably the app hasn't been updated to natively support 2560x1600 yet. There are only three devices with that resolution: N10, TF701, and N10.1-14. You'll find other apps and games that aren't optimized yet either. Write the developer; most have been very responsive.

Thanks guys for the input!
The Youtube stuttering problem is really getting crazy. Tried reinstalling and no use.
Many of the software changes are really gimmick.
I really can't live without root, and there's still no method of rooting without voiding warranty.
The multi window implementation due to pen window is really annoying.
I'll just have to live with my old note with a slightly inferior screen and weight. Really enjoyed the productivity of my old note.
Most probably selling this new one away.
I too have noticed the stuttering, but it' occured to me that there is a new function on the Tab that they introduced with the Galaxy S4. It is called Smart Pause. If you look away from the tablet, it will stop playing (with a little delay) and if you look back you will catch it while it is paused. I dissabled that and youtube went fine after that...

New Ultra headed my way!

Should have it by the 17th. Really looking forward to it.
There looks to be a lot more info here on Remix in general ...looks good! ?
One thing is I am hoping for is a way to safely increase the ram. Seems I read that the Ultra is already rooted, so hopefully there is an easy way to do this!
OH... The Ultra is on sale at Amazon for $199 ...says it includes keyboard! Sweet!
?
It's not rooted. But its easy to flash a custom recovery and install the su binary.

If you can find the Cyanogen Mod recovery then you can download the supersu from the market. Boot into recovery and then apply the supersu as an update. Once done you cannot get OTA updates, but supersu lets you unroot and then you can repeate the process of replacing the recovery and rooting. Very easy to do and much easier than using other root tools out there.
Got it early. Ordered Friday... delivered Monday.
Already updated to 2.0, which changed the settings app. Then the mouse stopped working on the keyboard, so I may be looking to reset the tab and start over... not that big of a deal.
Unless someone chimes in here with an idea to get the trackpad working again.
Neat tab. Made a video I may post later.
Thanks for any helpful input.
Reset the tablet, all is well for the trackpad.
So this is supposed to be a multi-tasker, but for the life of me I cannot find the feature that was on version 1.5 ....the ability to have phone sized windows.
Where did that feature go? Anyone know?
Thanks.

Thank you. I found it and it is un-checked.
I have since found a few apps, like calculator and another I installed ...Ccleaner, do open in smaller or larger windows, and can be moved about on the screen.
Still none of my larger apps, that I use for business ...like Polaris, seem to have any options to change.
I am thinking I am going to have to carefully check my apps and look for those which may work and fit with the Remix multi windows setup. So far there are not many.
Not quite what I expected, but I will keep working with it.
Thanks again!
I mentioned this in another post here. It applies to version 2.0.
The way to determine if the app being used can be brought down to a phone sized/smaller window is to swipe down with your finger from the top. To the right will be the option to expand or contract the app. Works on some apps, not on others, but at least now I know where the option is.
Hope this helps.
