Camera Failed [Solved] - Galaxy Tab General

I am not sure whether this thread is off topic or not. But this problem is really boring and I wish somebody can look into it and find a permanent solution.
My tab is international version, no matter I flash the DXKM2 stock firmware or Roto's JME-V4 with CF-Root, I always encounter the camera failed error. But it do works before I install any 3rd software.
So far I doubt it's due to some system application removal, because I have another Galaxy S with exactly same 3rd party software installed without this problem. I only deleted some unnecessary built-in apps in system folder. Here is the list I deleted apps:
IMEs (I use TouchPal for Chinese input)
Samsung widgets (I like very clear homepage)
Ebooks (I use ibook)
Live wallpapers (to reduce power consumption)
Email (I use K-9 mail)
Samsung Unified Inbox
SNS (Chinese can't use facebook)
It's very weired that I didn't install anything since last time to take picture. Seems like the pad idles certain time then the camera has problem itself.
Anybody encountered same problem like me and even found the root causes? Please help.
Update:
OK, I found the root cause by deleting files one by one. Found that the Email.apk and Email.odex can't be deleted. Once I copy back those two files from backup, and restart, the camera functions well now.

how was this fixed?
im not sure but I cant tell how was it solved

In all the cases above, the camera start failing at some point after an install of 3rd party software.
and I believe in their case, the camera works on stock rom.
Is yours really broken on gb stock safe (in your other posts you mention so). Pure state after Odin.

Questions about the Official HTC Magic Android 1.6 ROM

I just flashed the 1.6 ROM from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=565929
And have listed the first part of this post in that thread, but I was interested in getting some answers to the second part of this post (I thought it might be relevant to re-post the first part here, just for reference).
My issues with this ROM (I have a rooted MT3G):
- Can't seem to get Touch Input (HTC_IME) working, and just waiting on someone to post a link to a working apk & files (with instructions). The versions I have will install, but causes a force close. TouchPal (an old favorite from my Windows Mobild days) installs and works fine, but isn't that much better than the stock keyboard (although for the 20-key qwerty keyboard, it's better than the stock in that way).
- I get a force close when I go to edit a contact
- I get a force close when trying to use the PhoneBook app (as a contacts alternative)
- Not sure if this is related to this ROM, but I get a force close with Snap Photo Pro when trying to take a photo. It wasn't really usable on Hero ROM's so I hadn't played with it much, so not sure about this one. The non-pro version is fine (and really is sufficient for my needs).
- Installed apps do not show up in AppManager (even if installed with AppManager). They also don't show up in aTrackDog. But they do appear in GPhoneManager and Advanced Task Manager.
- Get the "Problems loading widget" for the calendar widget, but I never use that so no worries for me. Power Control does not seem to give me any issues.
Also, for those that are having trouble using Wireless Tether For Root Users, I got aNetShare working fine - well, at least it runs, doesn't give any errors, but I can't seem to get internet access with my PC yet. I don't recall what ROM I had pulled it from now.
Overall, I think this is a nice and speedy ROM and would use it, but still prefer some of the "core" things found in Hero ROM's, which include:
- The photo/gallery browser. I'm not sure how to block directories of images in the ROM like I do with the ".nomedia" fix used with the Hero photo viewer). Interestingly, the ".nomedia" fix seems to work fine with the Music Player. If there's a good photo viewer in the market (or a "simple" way to block directories), I'd appreciate someone pointing it out.
- I like the contacts program in Hero ROM's, specifically the ability to sync with Facebook.
- Would be nice to take pictures in portrait mode, but not a major thing (I mean, I can take them, but then they'll get rotated wrong when viewing photos).
- The look and feel of the Hero Calendar is nicer, and I haven't really checked any of the available calendars from the market, so not sure if there's a decent alternative to the stock one.
- Multi touch. Not something I use often due to general lag, but would be nice to use on a zippy stock ROM. I mean device-wide, not just for the browser (like for images).
Everything else that is "nicer" in a Hero ROM, I can find alternatives for (like using Handcent for SMS, or Lock 2.0 for a "slide to unlock" thing, etc). I don't need Rosie (and can always get a home alternative if I wanted more than 3 screens) or TouchFlo - unless, of course, that's what the above apps are tied to.
And finally, what might be nice is a list of core apps that can be removed without affecting the system.

Suggested apps for Oxygen

Hi guys,
I'm busy working on a repo of all the apps you'd recommend to be used on AdamG's Oxygen rom. I've gone through most of the Oxygen rom thread and got some suggestions already, but I need a lot more.
Hopefully this will be included in a future Oxygen rom and will just make it easier for people to find things to improve their experience with Oxygen.
Apps so far are:
System
Cyanogen mms.apk (Fixes issues with mms functionality in Oxygen)
adblock hosts (Fixes the hosts issue some people have with adblock)
Gallery3D (For those of you who prefer the 3D gallery)
ROM Manager Free (Everyone needs this)
Gingerbread Keyboard with dictionary (The current keyboard in Oxygen does not support dictionary)
Backup and Restore
Titanium Backup Free (Helps with backing up apps and removing apps you don't want)
SMS Backup & Restore (Useful for when we have an update to flash)
Call Logs Backup & Restore (Useful for when we have an update to flash)
SMS Backup + (added functionality of syncing sms/calls with gmail)
LifeSaver2 (1 app that backs up both sms and calls. Handles large amount of data)
Share and Explore
Bluetooth File Transfer (Fixes the bluetooth pairing issues on AOSP)
ES File Explorer (Browse directories on your desire)
Widgets (Weather/Clock)
News & Weather Widget (Widget that displays recent news and weather)
Fancy Widget Free (Displays time and weather on homescreen)
GO! Weather Widget (Displays time and weather on homescreen)
gTabSiMiClock
Launchers
ADWLauncher
LauncherPro
GO! Launcher
Gingerbread Launcher by Modaco
Gingerbread Launcher by Eugene (This one has the 3D app drawer)
Please only suggest free apps.
Please post app name and a download link if one is available.
NO +1 POSTS!!! I only need the suggestion once.
On a side note, the proposed names for this project and app are Oxygen Air and Oxygen Breathe. If you have any suggestions on a name please let me, preferably by pm and then we can have a vote to see what it'll be called.
ok, i'll kick off.
free versions of ROM Manager & Titanium.
I agree bout mms.apk and adhost but for every launcher i dont think adam will agree. He said before that will be his one and only default launcher and he'll stick to that.
And i dont really like this idea thing, i prefer tje rom to be as loghtweight as possible without any apps. That way, more freedom and people can install any of their favoured apps.

I'm only doing it because of the amount of people that go into the Oxygen thread and moan about zeam. It might stop them moaning.

The rom will not come with any of these suggested apps. It is just 1 app that will work as a repo, like the Market. The difference is that these are apps that fix or improve certain elements or apps that are suggested by the Oxygen community.
My favorite launcher is Zeam, ADW.Launcher, LauncherPro and Go Launcher
Because of Oxygen, I used Zeam but now thinking of changing to Go Launcher since it has so may improvements. Only thing missing is scrollable widgets.

Hi, nice initiative.
I would suggest:
- Since we are upgrading ROMs and sometime full wiping, something to backup/restore SMS, MMS and call logs (like SMS Backup & Restore and Call Logs Backup & Restore) would be really useful.
- less important because it only affects a few Oxygen users: Bluetooth File Transfer. Since pairing with some carkits does not work for AOSP based roms, it is the only way I've found to successfully pair my phone with my carkit.

I thought to suggest this too but wasnt sure if titanium is able to do that (I dont use it.. prefer to reinstall apps).
For sms/call logs, I use sms backup + which is free and best of all, it syncs sms/calls with gmail
I like LifeSaver2 for Call log/Messages backup, it backs up to your SD card and handles large volumes quite well (I exported and imported 3300+ SMS messages without a hitch).
I also like the News & Weather widget, which wasn't in Oxygen 1.0.4.
- fancy widget (free)
- Es file Explorer
i can see this is going to grow into a big list!
@BendingBetty - perhaps you should make this into a poll so we can vote and then you can package up, say the most popular 10 or so....
just an idea...

Right now I'm just wanting to build the repo. So the more the better. I'll stop between 50 and 100. Hoping to then get a suggest an app button in the app to make it easier to manage.
Clock & Weather :
gTabSiMiClock
The modified dialer by Cytown or Wysie. The blacklist number feature is deeply missed.
led light or something like this to use the flash as torch.
the one used on Defros rom is simple and works even when screen timeout. (I do not remember the name of this app)
Advanced Task Killer (free variant)
Everybody needs somethink, to kill your ghosts
Ad in the app is ok, i use it as service anyway

You can use Status menu power bar mod for do this, simple add Toggle LED flashlight.
Settings -> Display -> Widget buttons
If you use 2.0, you should wait, the mod will be avaible soon, becouse AdamG is awesome

Hi guys!
Some days before I flashed oxygen 1.0.4 rom on my desire and i just recognised that i havent got sms menupoint. So i cant write ( i dont know if i can receive sms ) messages. If i try i get this: android.process.acore stopped unexpectedly.
Somebody could help me please?
Thanks!
That's the thing I like about Oxygen.
There's basically nothing included.
Then again; I don't think apps such as "SiMiClock" will be included in a ROM. I see the need for ROM Manager to take an example, but I don't feel that it needs to be included in the ROM itself.

I`m struggling to see the sense here, free apps just put in yourself or are people to lazy. Better to be a minimal rom then each person can customise to suit. FWIW I have over 50% of the apps posted on here.

Force Close on every app

Every time I try to use the keyboard it force closes the running app.
For example I open gmail, I click on reply and it force closes. (because it automatically wants to pop up the keyboard) same goes for chatting in Trillian and every other app that uses the keyboard.
By default I use Swiftkey X Tablet, I turned that off and it still forced closed, I uninstalled every keyboard (except the default Samsung one) with no luck or whatsoever.
I tried googling but I couldn't find anything related, is there a quick fix or am I bound to flash a new ROM on it?
I am using stock ROM on the GT-P3110 with the android version 4.0.3.
Cheers.
Ditched stock for CM9, everything works again.
I still wonder where the problem was though.
The keyboard closing everything problem happened to me when the clipboard became corrupt. I have a post elsewhere on this board that describes how I fixed it. Search is down or I'd find it and link to it. The basic idea is to nuke the contents of /data/clipboard. You lose your "pinned" clipboard items but you can then get things to quit closing.
I am thinking about going to CM9 but wonder if you lose anything other than the dumb Sammy apps? For example, the IR blaster (which I don't really use anyway) or anything like that.
Update: Ok Google knows all: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1655619
Brilliant, if it happens again I will use that. Still an annoying bug.
Also would you need root to nuke the contents of that directory?
I have the European version of the Tab 2 7" so I don't have an IR blaster, but I suppose you could just extract the .apk (it could be included in the ROM I have no idea.)
Everything feels a lot smoother on CM9 to be honest.
Thanks for your help!
I don't know, but I bet you need root. Then again, the clipboard must be writable so maybe not. I had thought I would not root this device right away but 5 minutes after I booted it, I realized I needed root for Titanium Backup and that was that.
I recall copying a 5k line javascript. Odd bug. Though I suppose going into Recovery mode and then wipe data would also do the trick if you indeed do need root access.

Straaange things happened this morning

Seeing as though there's no more BajaROM thread, I'll post this is in the general Q&A section. Of course, while I am running BajaROM, I can't be sure that the ROM had anything to do with it.
Something weird definitely happened to my phone last night... at exactly 2:28am, it would seem.
When I woke up this morning, my live background changed to a different static background, my normal keyboard (thumb keyboard) was replaced by the samsung one, my clock widget was frozen at 2:28, the battery level read 87% (after charging all night), and hasn't changed all morning, even after an hour commute of phone calls and media play... tasker had inexplicably turned off... and I'm still finding odd things.
I restarted my phone, and my clock is more current now, but my clock widget and the statusbar clock are a minute apart for a portion of every minute (like they're offset by <60sec) Tasker still didn't turn on like it should have, until I started the app to spark it... as if it was the first time I installed it. (It does the same thing when I restore the app through Titanium Backup on a new ROM install)
I checked to make sure I still have root by starting Titanium Backup... I have root, but titanium backup says it's the free version now... when I normally have the Donate (Pro) version. I had to reinstall it from the Google Play store
I have a few nightly backup/refresh items scheduled in Titanium Backup at 2am and 2:30am... so I wonder if something went wrong.
If anyone has experienced similar issues, leave a comment.
Thanks!

This won't help you understand what's going on but for what it's worth I'm running Baja 16.1 and it's just fine. I don't use any exposed or wanam modules. Think that might be the culprit? That is if you run any..

I do run some (several) xposed mods and wanam/gravity box mods, and have been for quite some time on several devices. A string of bizarre events like that hasn't happened though.
It is strange, though, that I did install XToast just last night. This is an xposed mod that gives you more control over the toast messages received under different circumstances. Could be the culprit... not sure. I think I'll disable it and go back to BurntToast, a mod that does similar stuff.
Maybe switching from one to the other borked something?
Thanks for the input.
I also experienced some weird behaviour. I do suspect Titanium tp cause the problems, but I'm not yet 100% sure...
Not all of my issues are completely the same as yours, but still similar.
First of all, my device is a Galaxy S3 mini, CM11 installed, rooted, XPosed installed with several modules (but no Gravity or Wanam). All partitions are in ext4, external SDcard is in exFAT.
(1) root: During startup, Titanium asks an awful lot of times for boot access. Sometimes it does for 50-100 times. In the end, devices will still be rooted but startup takes a long time.
(2) startup: As mentioned: takes really long. With EVERY reboot, I get the "Android is upgrading..." message for about a minute.
This issue is solved by clearing all .odex-files with Lucky Patcher.
(3) Keyboard. I used Google Keyboard as my standard keyboard, but a while after installing/flashing (10 minutes to an hour) Google Keyboard uninstalls spontaneously (without interaction). This happened with all Keyboard versions I tried, in system and in data. And with or without it checked as primary keyboard in language & input settings. (because of those issues I switch to SwiftKey)
(4) Background: Background (custom wallpaper) disappears after a crash, and instead I get a static generic Android wallpaper. Also, every time I try to set my wallpaper back, device instantly reboots. (soft reboot which crashes and goes into a full reboot)
(5) Clock freeze: I've had those clock freezes a few times, but months ago. I think in my case it was due to some bad code in the ROM, not Titanium.
(6) Root: Even though in SuperSU settings I asked to remember autorisation, and automatically grant access, but after every boot, I had to grant permission to all apps using root access over and over again.
In order to try to solve my problems, I changed a few things.
- Google Now Launcher + XGelSettings instead of Nova Launcher. This didn't solve any of these problems, but I do like GNL more now
- I'm using Titanium Backup 6.1.5.4 stead of latest version, installed as a data app.
- I'm using SuperSU 1.98 instead of latest version, flashed as a system app.
- I'm using an older ROM version (CM M5 instead of CM M9/latest)
Most of my issues are gone now. I didn't check for (3) anymore.

Thank you for the information. I kind of suspect that Titanium Backup had something to do with my problems, as well, since it happened right around the time that a scheduled action was to take place. I think that TB was still in the middle of the previous operation at 2am when it tried to start the next one at 2:30. This has never caused a problem before, but maybe it was at the wrong place at the wrong time, as odd as that may sound.
Your problems seem to be a more constant hassle. Especially the parts about granting SU access several times. I'm leaning toward the fact that your external SD card might interfere a little. External memory is handled a lot differently in kitkat builds, which CM11 is. In newer custom ROMs, there are attempts made to "fix" it... but in your case, maybe it was counter-intuitive.
The issue is that, to paraphrase... Kit-Kat imposes a lot of data access restrictions on external media. So... if you create a file in one app... you can't modify that file in another. That's a bastardization of the whole thing, I'm sure... so look up the particulars from someone more qualified than I. haha
If I were you (and I had a few hours to burn)... I'd back up everything on your external card and your internal memory (a good idea in any case),
clear EVERYTHING and reinstall the latest versions of everything without the external card in your phone. See if you still have issues. If you don't, then the card might be a problem. Then, wipe the card and put it back in your phone, and let your phone reformat it. At that point, copy your backed-up card data to your external card in whatever way is best to keep KitKat from messing it all up again.
Luckily, I don't have issues with my external card, except for the fact that, say, if I want to put a picture of my son as my wallpaper or notification shade background... if I pick a file from the card, it won't load after I restart my phone. For stuff like this... make sure that you put the pic ON YOUR PHONE STORAGE. Consider it like this... you wouldn't have a lot of luck if your PC's desktop background or screensaver ran from the CD drive, as opposed to your hard drive.
@DrPhant0m
I already went to that process of backing up, wiping and so on. Actually, I already did it twice.
The first time, I cleaned my device, installed latest versions of everything, went through the restoring process. But most of my mentioned issues still existed.
The second time, I cleaned my device again, did about exactly what you mentioned, but I restored some older versions of the ROM, SuperSU and Titanium Backup Pro. And right now, my issues are gone!
Actually, I didn't realise there are so many KitKat-related issues with SD. Maybe my pictures indeed are/where stored on a faulty SD. But it's reformatted now, and it works. And I actually don't know if that picture is stored internally or externally, I selected the picture with/by Google Photo. No idea how it handles is
I'm not saying Titanium certainly will be the bad guy, but I'm quite sure it plays it's part in it. Other issues are caused by the custom ROM. In the last few months, developers of that ROM don't give a **** about solving issues, and introduce one new feature after the other, most of them still highly experimental. Maybe that's another problem I can't control at all
I have found that Titanium always deletes my custom wallpaper and replaces it with the Samsung default every time I do a backup. It also changes my keyboard (normally Hacker's Keyboard) back to Samsung keyboard. It started doing this several updates ago.

Every time you do a backup it does this? That's bizarre. Or, do you mean when you restore a backup? I want to say to update to the paid version and see if it fixes it, and if not... request a refund.
What info do you back up when this happens? I could see restoring a backup working against you. For instance, if you restore your keyboard and maybe even some language/input system files... it might default back to the standard keyboard because your confirmation to use a 3rd party keyboard (which could theoretically log all of your keystrokes) is no longer valid.
The background thing is a different story. When Titanium Backup works well... when I restore all of my "MUST HAVE" stuff after a new ROM install... it will restore my live wallpaper, too. There are often times that TB will NOT "work well" and the widgets and wallpaper (among other things) aren't restored properly... not to mention the fact that I can not get my bluetooth pairings and known wifi networks to restore, whether I use snapshot or XML.

No, I don't mean upon restoration. I mean I take a full backup (user apps + system apps), go off for a cup of coffee, come back, see that it completed OK, exit TI, and then I see that my background is back to the Samsung default and it I open something that needs keyboard, the keyboard is also back to Samsung default. I guess it was never enough of a bother for me to go to the trouble of buying it and then complaining. I figure that for free, I can put up with a minor annoyance.

I can see where you're thinking, but it happens right after *doing* the backup. I haven't even had the need to do a full restore yet, so I don't know what that would do.

It's very odd, that's for sure.

Nougat Webview inplementation on G5Plus - Weird

Hi Guy's. I've been running CM/LineageOs on my phones since forever, so I'm not really familiar about the default behaviours of stock android, and there's something that is bothering me on my G5 that I'm not sure is related to the system itself or to some sort of settings, and would be really thankful if someone could help me out.
Basically, in LineageOS 14.1 when you follow a link sent by someone, the link will open as a new tab on your default browser (be it the AOSP or Chrome, or any browser you choose to be your default). That's been the standard behaviour in all versions of CM till this day (I've been using it since CM7) as far as I know.
However, on my G5Plus, still running stock android due to warranty, everytime I follow a link or click my weather widget, instead of opening a normal tab on my default browser, I'll get this small rectangle that loads the page, but has no controls like the default browser, which is quite annoying in my opinion as I could want or need to save this page as a favourite, print it or do whatever I feel like with it, and this Webview rectangle won't allow me to do any of that. I'm not sure I've made myself clear, so I'm adding a picture of what happens to illustrate it. In the picture, I'm following a link sent to me by a contact through a IM application.
If someone nows what I could do to make sure all links open as a new tab on the default browser, I would really appreciate the help. Sorry for the noob question, but on my (now dead) Galaxy S4 running LOS14.1 and on my Nexus 7 running stock MM, this doesn't happen.
I think this is some third party browser app which you have set as default.

Not really. I only have Chrome installed (it came pre-installed on my XT1683).
This has nothing to do with webview or chrome. You Mist have a third party App installed
Actually I've just found out what was the matter. For some reason, Setup Wizard (a system application) was acting like a browser. This is a common problem with other devices running Nougat as I just found out (Samsung Galaxy S6, S7, S8, Nexus 5x, and many others). I've found the solution on a Google Pixel forum, and what needs to be done is to disable setup wizard. As my phone was just taken out of the box, and the only third party app installed was WhatsApp I'm pretty sure this bug is within the system.
