Android Pay not working - OnePlus 5 Questions & Answers

So my android pay isn't working. I've tried it and it's not. Anyone else has the same problem?

If you root it, it won't work. You'll need Magisk v13 instead of SuperSU.

I'm not rooted. I'm running stock.
It's confirmed. Android Pay isn't working.
Damn! I liked this phone too much. I don't know what to do. It's not like I really use android pay. It's just that I don't want a broken phone.

Does it let you add cards? I have it installed and setup on mine no problems, although haven't tried to pay for anything yet.

Yes it does.
I even got charged $1 when I added one of my cards.
Although when I hold it to the payment terminal, nothing happens.
While holding close to the payment terminal -
Unlock the phone, nothing happens.
Opened Android pay app, nothing happens.
Only thing that happened is me looking like a weirdo ending up paying with his physical card after trying some funny but failed party tricks with his phone.

Nothing. Literally nothing happens lol.
With the phone unlocked and all, nothing happens when holding it close to the payment terminal.

Probably a dumb question, but do you have nfc on? And are you focusing it on the top portion of the phone by the camera lens rather than the center?

Yes I do. I've focussed this thing everywhere and it's acting dumb as a dodo.
BTW, I think the problem is with the NFC chip. It doesn't pair with my NFC enabled Bluetooth speakers either.

I've only used nfc to set up this phone from OnePlus 3. I set up Android pay so I'll try it out soon.

Sounds like a fault which is probably the better news out of the two. I use my phone to pay for about 80% of transactions now and I don't think I could use the phone if i wasn't able to use Android Pay

So the NFC chip seems to be not completely dead. I tried many times pairing with my Bluetooth speakers and tapping the phone to the NFC tag on speaker did pop up the parining menu a few times.
It's wonky though. Works sometimes, doesn't most of the times.

I used Android pay this morning with no problems, seems like you may have a hardware issue buddy.

Also another question is if you have unlocked the bootloader? This would also stop Android pay working (even if you don't have root).
Also: for reference the NFC chip right by the duel camera bump so that's where you're aiming.

Working fine here in UK on non rooted phone even with 1.5 cm distance without touching NFC surface

I bought my dinner today in Tesco using Android Pay. Works just fine.

I did plenty of declined transactions at a few gas stations today. Apparently the NFC chip is fine. It's just that it works with some machines and doesn't with others. Doesn't work at Costco. Works at some Valero ones. It's kinda finicky. It's that normal?

WiFi does not work.

I've just received my complimentary Nexus One from Google, and I'd be so happy if only one thing - WiFi does not work at all.
I tried to install this update to ERE27, but it did not help much. Actually it helped a little, before the update the phone just did reboot on an attempt to turn on the WiFi, now it does nothing (just saying "Turning on..."). Any ideas?
I can't believe Google sends out broken devices for free just to get rid of defective ones...

Did you go into the phone settings' wireless and networks menu? (main screen -> menu button -> Wireless and networks)
If you look in Wifi settings you should see all the broadcasted SSID's. If not, then you may have an issue afterall.

Your phone is f~cked.
Send it back.
Sorry to tell you this. But hey at least I know what you're going through.
And you're lucky I saw this thread, as we're probably the only two people in the world to ever have this issue.
Luckily, I sent it back for a refund and it works great. To be honest, I was STRONGLY considering just sending it back for a refund instead of a swap and sticking with my G1 (man that would have sucked).
I am so glad I did a swap, and DAMN I love this phone. Haven't looked back since.
Nope, you guys aren't the only one who had wifi problems. My wifi wouldn't function at all on my first Nexus One... had to send it back for a new one and the second worked like a charm.

repair required
Thank you, guys, for responses.
I've called HTC and requested the repair.
Unfortunately, because it's complementary they do not send a new phone for replace, I have to send my broken one for repair.
Got it back from HTC today. They replaced it with a different phone, so probably that broken WiFi was not repairable. I hope everything works now.

Thanks for asking, wifi works fine. I'm writing from it now. And it seems the trackball did not work property on that broken one too. I wonder the other people who got a free N1 from Google, have same crap?
Sometimes I wonder why Google even bothers doing the device giveaway when miserable sods like you accuse them of sending out "crap". You don't like your free phone? Send it back, buy another one.
For crying out loud - everyone else in the program is exceptionally grateful and all you can do is whinge about it.

How do you replace Hardware Locked Vibrants?

I recently found out that my phone is hardware locked. I hear that people are getting theirs replaced because it's a defect. I tried to explain this where I got my phone about a month ago. No dice. They called up T-Mobile and I could not get a new phone. How did everyone get a replacement? Also, did you get brand new ones or refurbs? Thanks.
Just call tmobile directly. Don't tell them you bought it from someone else. Pretend as if you night it from them. I have gotten mine replaced even though I bought it from else where. The key us to sound like you know what you're talking about and to be persistent. You may get a no can do answer but call again and you'll eventually get a rep that erl return it right away cause they don't know what else to do. Btw always say you have already done a factory reset before they try to get you to do it.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
So I say that I already did a factory reset and want a replacement because I can't get into recovery mode?
just call them up and say that you can't do a hard reset and that the phone is defective... go to the tmobile store, they are a dealership and are privately owned, not by tmobile, so most of the time they'll just laugh in your face... CALL them
I wouldn't mention recovery mode. Id mention something like gps not working and you need a phone with gps for your job and that you paid for a phone and it said it had gps when it doesn't work. But still mention that you have done numerous factory resets with no success. They'll send you another. I'm getting my third one and after 3 replacements you get a upgrade to something else or you can continue with your phone.

GPS isn't a "hardware" problem, its firmware related. Don't think that would work at all. They'll probably just redirect you to a new firmware update.

Nah itll work cause I've gotten 2 replacements but saying that. Trust me I'd you get the right repo that doesn't know they will just replace it. Plus after saying you have done a factory reset they have no more troubleshooting steps on their script. Lol! Plus whether its hardware or software related the phone should work as advertised and if it doesn't then that's their fault

told you that's all you had to do i did the same... the newer replacement phones that they are now sending out aren't hardware locked anymore, they finally fixed the problem in QC
That is weird. How come the recovery mode thing didn't work the first time? I think they might ask me why I would want to get into recovery mode. What do I say?
What about people who don't have contracts with them? Will they do it if I don't have a contract? That's highly doubtful.

Also:
So, I say I can't get into recovery mode and they'll agree to send me a new phone? When I send it back, do I do any kind of reset or leave it as is?
Yesterday, I fudged an install of a mod and got a bunch of TwLanuncher errors. My phone is hardware locked and after about an hour, Tmo decided to give me a new one. I simply told them and its true that I cant hard reset the phone. Only problem is that I cant flash back to stock either. Hope this isnt a problem...

I don't think T-Mobile will bother to check the contents of your phone. They'll just send it back to Samsung. And if Samsung discovers that your phone has custom firmware, they probably won't care either because the transaction was done already.

Someone correct me if I am wrong here. Simply tell them that you cant hard reset the phone.
I think you guys are over estimating the technical-prowess of the T-Mob reps. They wouldn't know about 'recovery' modes, custom firmwares, or anything. Most of the time, they're gonna take what you say at face value; just go for the easy in. Just say your phone is hardware locked, unable to do factory resets, etc. and play dumb. You don't need to tell them about recoveries or custom roms. Pretend you're a technologically-impotent average consumer fer chrissakes.
Shipping is free unless you want express. But on your second replacement they ship it express for free

Like new Samsung GalaxyS Vibrant For Sale $160

I have a like new Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant for sale for $160. Reason why i'm asking for so little is because I borked the sim card reader, sdcard reader, and external speaker while doing the FFC mod. Asking $160.00 shipped. payment through Paypal only
email me at [email protected] if interested (preferred) or reply here, thanks.
What is borked
What is borked ? Do you mean you damaged the operating system ? (software) or do you mean damaged the hardware ?
that sounds like you caused a short in the phone by removing and reinserting the camera while the phone was on.
just a little word of advice, turn off electronics and remove power source before removing components.
Why don't you just send it into Tmo and tell them you don't know what happened?

It means I damaged the hardware. In this case the hardware that reads the sim card and sdcard, as well as the external speaker. Front speaker works though

scrizz is right
Always remove the power source before working on any electrical device. especially, micro voltage. Additionally, you should wait between 10-30 sec before working on a device as many computer type devices will hold a transient charge for that amount of time
So its really not "Like new" is it..

So you lied and are committing a crime by selling something you reported lost. Not smart, you should just own up to your failure and buy a new phome without breaking the law.
When the insurance vendor catches wind of this you will be in serious trouble for knowingly commiting insurance fraud.
if the battery is still good and it still has the sd card in it, ill give you a few bucks for those items?

the sim card reader is damaged. It can't read the sim card so they can't activate it
you might have better luck with a sell like this on craigslist or something? too many intelligent people on these forums. just my opinion.

Android Pay Issues

I have had reliable Android Pay experience with two phones in the past at several businesses that I visit frequently (HTC M8, and Nexus 5X), but my Nexus 6P is not doing so well.
When I try and use Android Pay, it often doesn't register at all, or acts buggy. The last time I tried using it, the Android Pay screen kept popping up rapidly as I held it on the terminal, as if it was registering over and over. At another business it took me a couple tries and moving the phone around quite a bit to get it to work, but it eventually did.
I also have tried this with two different 6P's because my first one had a screen defect, and they both had similar results.
Does anyone else have this issue? Have you have that Android Pay works better with the phone face up or face down? Or maybe if you line up the phone a certain way on the terminal?
I absolutely love this phone, but this is disappointing because my past Pay experiences have been so seamless.
I have used it several time with no issues. NFC is under the camera visor so touch that to the reader.
It seems something changed today that "fixed" Pay and even systemless does not work anymore. I'm beginning to think it's either stock and Pay or custom and no Pay. it just gets to be such a hassle.

Wont boot up after ODIN T-Flash

So I need help. I tried un rooting my s7 edge by flashing the stock files in ODIN, I selected T-Flash in ODIN options because that's what I remembered selecting in the past. Little did I know I forgot to select Re-Partition too. Now my phone shows a black screen, I cant boot into recovery or download mode, but it would seem like the phone isn't shutting off because when I connect it to my PC its immediately recognized and no matter how many button combinations I try it just is disconnected from the PC for about half a second and then re connects. I don't get any response from the phone though. The screen is pitch black and i cant get it to do anything. After flashing I noticed it wasn't booting up at all it was in download mode and when it finished the screen turned black and never came back on. When connected to my PC it is recognized as Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008 (COM5) in my device manager ODIN Does not recognize it and neither does any other application. Can I please get some help here?
Try pressing and holding the power button until the device shuts off. It could take up to a minute of holding the button down continuously.

Well like I said before, I don't like giving out directions like I did if I don't recognize the steps to complete it or if others have not supported the validity of it. I don't want to stray you in the wrong direction. The only thing I think you should do, my opinion of course, is attempt to return it under or try to get it repaired under warranty as you don't need insurance as long as you didn't trip Knox, which I don't believe you did.

I thought I would need like a receipt or something but I guess not. I bought the phone used from Swappa so I thought i'd be screwed. I just hope Knox inst messed up which it shouldn't be because it never was and it failed when I was trying to flash stock firmware. Oh and its free of charge since it hasn't been a year of the phones release yet.

Glad you could get it sorted out. Sucks that it will take a little longer but it's better than attempting to follow complicated tutorials that may not even work and may make the problem worse. Hope they send you a new one, just be careful next time you flash anything. Read the instructions, make sure you understand them and ask about what you don't, then read through again to double check and you shouldn't have any problems.

The only thing I'm worried about is if they call me saying they won't repair it because I have no proof of purchase since I bought it used. I'm so anxious to get my phone back really hoping everything is smooth. It's apparently covered by the 1yr warranty every phone comes with but why would they not ask for a receipt but whatever I just want everything to go smooth.

The Samsung S7's came out in March of this year, so regardless of when you have bought it at this time it's obviously still within the warranty period.

Oh okay. And what about not having a proof of purchase. Does it even matter for this kind of warranty?

Once the phone has been out over a year where it's not a guarantee that you must have purchased it within the last 12 months then yes, they most likely would ask for a receipt. You're just lucky like that. Lol

Oh wow so its basically just lucky timing, nice. I'm never rooting the phone again all i wanted were better emojis and the note 7 UX and I couldn't even get the Note 7 UX so its not worth it. It's an amazing phone on it's own. I won't ever try and root another Verizon phone there's always little support cause of the bootloader and I always run into something. Glad I dont have to worry much just takes time.
