Have to send mine back, manufacturing defect - OnePlus 5 Questions & Answers

To the left of the fingerprint reader slightly up, there's what looks like scratched missing black coating or whatever it is behind the glass where the strip of black panel is, hard to see it in the photo, in good light it looks crap, already initiated return.

Replacement Screen Cover? (Not entire screen)

I was wondering if there was any place I could get a replacement screen cover, but not the entire screen (which looks to run ~$70). It seems like there is a piece of plastic over the screen itself and I was wondering if there is a way to replace JUST that piece of plastic.
Mine is scratched to hell.
Thanks.
edit: Is this what I want: http://cgi.ebay.com/TOUCH-SCREEN-FO...yZ20336QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem?

I thought the screen was one unit. I haven't heard of a cover over the screen besides the one that comes on the phone from the factory, which I removed before using the phone. I've had my tilt for about 6 months or longer and dont have any scratches on the screen, well some tiny light ones but then again the phone gets a ride in my pocket alone without anything in there to damage it.
edit:... oh you wanted the actual touch screen... buy the one in your link :dunno:
I guess the question is - if your screen is scratched - which piece is actually the top most? I assume it is the digitizer/touch screen layer.

Yeah, thats how most touch screens are setup if not all. They're just the touch sensor matrix which is clear infront of the LCD panel.
i got a screen cover with my tytn 2 which im sure are very cheap to pick up less then $1 but i mainly have a problem with dust getting under the side of my screen im sure you all know where i mean
im sure a screen protector costs less than £1 i got one through with my phone but i couldnt put in on without bubbles so i left it and i have noticed i have scratches on my screen being left alone aside my wallet in the pocket of my jeans. but im sure a good polish with dvd cleaner or even brasso (works wonders on psp screens) could clean up those scratches... i recommend dvd cleaner cause brasso would make a mess and also get down the sides of the screen like random crap does anyway... i found a part of a leaf there a few times you would have thought such a big opening would have been sealed my htc?
Having replaced my LCD, I can tell you that the plastic screen is indeed part of the LCD, and is not a removable component.
I have it my hand right now, and it seems there's no way to break apart the lcd into its components (lcd, digitizer, and plastic).
If you're determined to fix it, you'd have to buy a new screen.
if we speaking about the thin film, i recommend you either buy original htc or 3m product the size is 2.8"
the dvd cleaner is great idea to clean as one of the boys suggested
buy an anti-glare - so u can use it outdoor natural light conditions
get a rough texture if u use the stylus for handwriting
these are some tips and good luck man

Sent HD2 for screen repair, returned with non-glass screen.

My HD2 was developing an issue with it's screen, white patches were appearing. So I sent it off to O2 to be repaired, and while the problem has been fixed, it's been returned with a non-glass screen with no diamond shaped etching on it like I had on the original.
Anyone else had this?
what do you mean by diamond shaped etching? and is it still multitouch?
If you look closely on the HD2, the screen has fine diagonal lines etched on the glass which cross making what appears to be diamond shapes on the screen. The screen on mine isn't glass now, it's plastic and those fine lines aren't there. I was just wondering if anyone else had had a repair and had the same thing happen.
It is still mutlitouch. I'm just trying to decide if I should complain.

Are there any other notable differences? Is it more easily scratched, less transparent, more reflective, etc.?
If so, then yes, you should definitely complain.
as plastic is alot more prone to scratches, i would complain...

I understand this must be really annoying for you, but tbh I find it really interesting.
Is your new screen still capacitive? Does a normal stylus or other object still work on it? (ie. is it still resistive?)
I never realised you could get multitouch plastic screens....
i would definitely file a complain. you bought your hd2 with a glass screen and its weird that its plastic. yes there are diamond shaped etchings in the glass screen.
so all capacitive screens should be glass covered? hmm... interesting.

I had mine repaired and yes, the lines seem to be gone. I think this has to do with the improved hardware and not because its plastic.
f*ck that. complain, you bought the hd2 and you want it back the same way you bought it.
WHOA!
This is either a HUGE insight to something about the amount of screen blotches being received.
or
You are dealing with a crappy fix.
I honestly have never heard of a PLASTIC CAPACITIVE LENS!?!?!
Will this be a common resolution to HD2 shatter/blotch?
there are capacative screens with plastic face...
the samsung f480 has one either
Hmmm

That's good to know, maybe I'm wrong about it being plastic although it doesn't feel the same. Is your's definitely still glass?
Why not post some pics here ? Wanna see it. Best would be to do the pics in various angles to a light source to see what consistency it has ............
I noticed the diamond etchings on my HD2 straight out of the box brand new, still glass though.
may be we should look at tmob us screen and see it's type

All capacitivie screens are made of glass - or else the technology wouldn't work since its basically a grid with electric current covering the screen, and this grid you disturb with your fingers. Plastic is NOT leading electricity so it would not work. And btw, the Samsung F480 has a Resistive touchscreen.
That's not strictly true. Neither glass nor plastic conduct electricity - but both act as a dielectric for electrostatic fields. A capacitive touch screen can theoretically work with either plastic or glass (or even air), because capacitive touch doesn't actually require that you touch the screen.
glass conduct electricity
Strictly speaking, hardly anything conducts no electricity, it's just a question of a material's resistance and therefore the amount.

Really weird Screen/Glass problem

OK, so i just noticed something really weird on the screen of my Nexus S. Towards the bottom of the screen, right under those 4 touch buttons where the glass meets the housing, i see these grey stains. The stains are on the inside and i feel like it's the glue that was used to install/paste the glass. I think those grey stains on the inside are all around the glass but i can only see them on the top and bottom.
Anyone noticed something similar?
Any suggestions?

The glass is thicker at the top and bottom. I think that is what you're seeing. I just looked at mine in the light, and to me, it just looks like the edge of the glass. Just the nature of the curved glass imo.
I had a bit of glue around the edges of my screen. I just stuck some Scotch tape around the edges to pull it off.
i took my phone back to best buy. the guy there told me that this is a pretty common problem not only with nexus s but evo 4g also. he let me check about 6 devices (not exagerating) before making an exchange and i was quite surprised to see all those screens with some sort of defect around the top and the bottom. i picked the one that looked the best and went home satisfied.

Anyone who reads this and has a black mist s4 can check the front of their phone under the sensors, camera, earpiece, to see if is a line/shape of a screen protector on it? I cannot catch in a picture what i'm trying to describe here, but when i look from different angles under good (not very bright light) , on top of the screen under the sensors and earpiece is a line/shape of a screen protector.
Can anyone confirm this, cause in case is a defect i want to return it.
Cheers

Nothing there for me. I held the phone in good light and looked under all the sensors and I don't see the shape or line of a screen protector. I have the black mist one by the way. Any idea what it is?
Sent from my GT-I9505 using xda app-developers app
Yes i have the black mist too, sometimes i cannot notice it , even if i want to ) but sometimes just jumps into my eyes. Best you can see around the notification LED , is like a U shape. (The way a screen protector is cut).
EDIT:
Ok this is weird... It happened before but now i'm sure i'm not going crazy.
So i wiped it with my t-shirt very well that side and was still there, after i took a cloth which came with a pair of sunglasses and i wiped and now i cannot see it again.
The thing is that cannot be dirty, because its a perfectly shape of screen protector when is visible. Maybe it becomes visible sometimes from fingers oil ..ect?
Still i want to know if anyone else noticed this
2nd EDIT:
Yep i can confirm that if you rub your fingers over sensors and earpiece few times its starting to become visible.
If you clean with a good cloth after its 100% un-noticeable in any light or angles.
Yea I'm certainly not getting anything like this. Must be a quirk of your phone specifically!
Is very hard to notice. Like now i can put it under any light or any angle and is not visible.

When you first got the phone, you probably peeled off the shipping screen protector (on the M919, it was black with a bunch of print on it). I strongly suspect that what you're seeing is simply residual from that being applied. Most likely, as your finger grease and whatnot gets on the phone, it highlights a slight difference which was caused by that original screen protector being on the phone. eventually, this will wear off.

Yes that's it. I checked now, cause i still have those original protectors in the box. Its the exact same shape i see sometimes when phone becomes dirty from finger oils. On 9505 its the same protector (black with lots of prints on).
I was just curious why is like this, cause when i wipe it with a good cloth it dissapears completely.
Mystery solved
Thanks

Stained screen? Smudged screen? I dont know...

Hey guys.
So yestreday I was using my phone with a light in the room. And I decided (since i now have the s7edge for about 3 weeks) to check unde4 light if there already are any microscratches
... and there are some although I take care of my phone like its a newborn baby. But its also only visible under light. So, the microscratches didnt really bother me... i noticed something else. Its like a stain or a smudge on the edge of the screen, on both edges actually... left and right... and they are not even the same, they are not symmetrical. At first i thought its just dirty but after rubbing it, it didn't go away.
So what I did was, I washed it under water (mind you, this was THE FIRST time I got my s7e under water).
I cleaned it good, wiped it good. But it is still there.
Then I went to google about this and found nothing... all i found, worth checking was some guy who said he had a gap between the FRAME and the SCREEN, and that he had sent it back to get that fixed (and it took samsung like 3 times to send him a good phone). So i checked that video and some people in the comments were reporting that the gap between screen and frame is so big that they can put a piece of paper under there. I of course tried it myself out of curiosity and ny phone also has the GAP between screen and frame. And after i washed it yestrday.... i noticed some water in between the edge and screen... inside that gap.
Now guys tell me those anyone else have that smudge or stain? Does anyone know what it is? (Remember it was there before I even got the phone wet for the first time)
And tell me does anyone else have the gap between screen and frame? And did anyone else notice a little water between screen and frame in that gap? Does it mean its not water and dust proof? I must say that I got it wet pretty good under tap water, but it is still working perfectly... i am just afraid now that there is a ways the water will get into that gap someday and ruin the phone. I really hope this is normal and its just how the phone is built and it is till waterproof and dust proof... but i water can get into that gap i do not know how it can be dust/water proof....
Thank you for all the help guys!
Oh and here are the pictures of the screen smudge/stain. I only took pictures of the left side of the phone screen. 4 pictures. 2 are original, other 2 have a marking so you can easily spot what we are looking at.
And you can maybe try to the gap between frame and screen, but i am not sure it will be possible,as i took that picture to show you the smudge, stain and not the gap.
Also I must say that this smudges are on both sides of the screen visible ONLY when the screen is turned of, or if you have a black wallpaper and if you dont pay attention to it you can hardly even notice it, even with black screen or turned of screen. Its the easiest to see under strong light.
is that the same place for the gap between the edge of the screen or thats for the cover section at the back of the phone.....
also ste you using a screen protector or that stain is directly on or inside your actual screen did u use a screen protector before or not at all
Hi there,
The gap between the screen and the frame is normal. Every phone has it, and I have it also, was multiple times in a swimming pool with the phone and it still works. About the smudge, I do not know, it seems like the oleophobic coating of your screen is weared off. Maybe send it back if it bothers you much?

Hi, I had the same problem, a while ago, with a Sony device. I thought it is water in the first, but I send it to Sony to be save, and they replaced the screen. It was a part of the screen, it peels off, and sticked on the screen-glass.
Nah its not really bothering me... but i dont know what it is and i got scared a little. Like i said it not really visible unles you tilt the phone and turn it under a light or sun.
I dont know how could the oleophobic coat wear off because the phone is 3 weeks old. Bought it three weeks ago, tottally new.
I dont use screen protector but i do have a spigen case.
So I guess its what Pufnasti said. The screen peeled off and stuck to the outer glass...
Pfunasti, should I send it back so they repair it?

I used my brand new Sony deVice only 2 days, and I get this problem. I would say, you should send it to Samsung. It's definitely a hardware problem, and it wasn't caused by you.
