Anyone who reads this and has a black mist s4 can check the front of their phone under the sensors, camera, earpiece, to see if is a line/shape of a screen protector on it? I cannot catch in a picture what i'm trying to describe here, but when i look from different angles under good (not very bright light) , on top of the screen under the sensors and earpiece is a line/shape of a screen protector.
Can anyone confirm this, cause in case is a defect i want to return it.
Cheers

Nothing there for me. I held the phone in good light and looked under all the sensors and I don't see the shape or line of a screen protector. I have the black mist one by the way. Any idea what it is?
Sent from my GT-I9505 using xda app-developers app
Yes i have the black mist too, sometimes i cannot notice it , even if i want to ) but sometimes just jumps into my eyes. Best you can see around the notification LED , is like a U shape. (The way a screen protector is cut).
EDIT:
Ok this is weird... It happened before but now i'm sure i'm not going crazy.
So i wiped it with my t-shirt very well that side and was still there, after i took a cloth which came with a pair of sunglasses and i wiped and now i cannot see it again.
The thing is that cannot be dirty, because its a perfectly shape of screen protector when is visible. Maybe it becomes visible sometimes from fingers oil ..ect?
Still i want to know if anyone else noticed this
2nd EDIT:
Yep i can confirm that if you rub your fingers over sensors and earpiece few times its starting to become visible.
If you clean with a good cloth after its 100% un-noticeable in any light or angles.
Yea I'm certainly not getting anything like this. Must be a quirk of your phone specifically!
Is very hard to notice. Like now i can put it under any light or any angle and is not visible.

When you first got the phone, you probably peeled off the shipping screen protector (on the M919, it was black with a bunch of print on it). I strongly suspect that what you're seeing is simply residual from that being applied. Most likely, as your finger grease and whatnot gets on the phone, it highlights a slight difference which was caused by that original screen protector being on the phone. eventually, this will wear off.

Yes that's it. I checked now, cause i still have those original protectors in the box. Its the exact same shape i see sometimes when phone becomes dirty from finger oils. On 9505 its the same protector (black with lots of prints on).
I was just curious why is like this, cause when i wipe it with a good cloth it dissapears completely.
Mystery solved
Thanks

Hello guys
A friend of mine gave me a BW screen protector and when I tried to place it, apparently the screen had some dust or sth on it, and immediately it filled with dust and became unusable :s
Which screen protector would you suggest for the universal? And also, any way to safely and completely remove all dust etc from the screen before placing it?
Sorry for the weird post but I'm afraid I'm gonna start scratching the display with extended use of the stulys :/
Thnx in advance!
I have a Martin Fields screen protector. It's a bugger to apply, but great once it's on. Clean the screen with a spectacle lens cloth before you start and hope you don't get any bubbles.
Yeah, bubbles ruined it last time I tried
Anyone has this on his universal?
http://www.pocketpctechs.com/main~u...sories-WriteSHIELD%99+AG~item~WSPDA011-2D.htm
I use it on all my devices (the AG one) and I love it.
It is EASY to apply, you can remove and re-add it, you can move it from one device to another, if it gets dust sticked to the adhesive side you can clean it and I haven't yeat thrown a single one away.
It isn't glossy, so your display won't be "shiny" as without it, but the anti-glare effect is very welcome and its thickness is enough to protect the display from almost anything.
Considering that I haven't yet thrown a single one away, despite messing around a lot with them, I consider them to be very good value.
Nice, I'll order one within the week
ps, is a screen protector really that important? I mean, apart from dust, fingerprints etc (which are the main reasons I'll get it), using for example the stylus for gaming and/or handwriting, does this really compromises the screen (scratches etc)?
i have it
it is a good accessory. and it actually does what it is supposed to do.
i would recomend it all save the screen.
I have a Martin Fields screen protector.
More information: http://www.the-gadgeteer.com/review/martin_fields_overlay_plus_pda_screen_protector_review_
I have one of these: http://shop.brando.com.hk/ultraclearscreenprotector.php
You can hardly notice that it's there, apart from making the screen a little more shiny, and the slightly poorer stylus response (doesn't bother me, as I don't use the handwriting input) which I believe is inevitable with any screen protector.
Before applying, I found that wiping the screen firmly with a decent lint-free lens cloth (as you'd get from a photography supplier) was sufficient to remove all fingerprints, fluff etc. The trick is to inspect the screen throughly from all angles with a nice bright light source such as a torch or desk lamp with the display off, as well as with the illumination of the backlight on maximum.
Hello,
Does anyone know of a way I can fix a small (2/3") light scratch on my Nexus' screen without replacing the whole thing? The scratch is just visible enough to be annoying and can barely be felt when running your fingernail over it to give you an idea of how deep/shallow it is. I was hoping maybe some good glass polish and microfiber cloth might smooth it out...
I also heard that a good screen protector can pretty much hide small scratches as well. I thought about getting the seidio cover, but really wanted to repair the scratch first.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Wes
Polish would be the best bet I reckon.
How did you manage to scratch it?
I thought the Nexus' screen was near scratch resistant (excluding falls, concrete, sand, etc)?
Anything harder than glass can scratch it. I used to think that rubbing it on my jeans was safe. But I think there was a small particle of something. I scratched it Barely visible though, wouldn't even call it a hairline scratch. But there was something there that could scratch the glass, a small particle of sand or even a glass dust particle or something would do it.
i have a bunch of very tiny micro scratches that can only be seen in direct sunlight. and i've babied my phone like no other. nothing except my finger tip has touched the screen. i'd like if others can test their phones in the sunlight to compare. no its not the diagonal touch digitizer. these scratches are vertical and some horizontal, right near the center of the screen, where you would scroll on web pages etc.
since i've literally babied this phone, and these scratches keep getting worse by the day, i can only assume that this is normal and everybody is having these scratches. i have probably 40-50 at this point.
FYI in a normally lit room, my screen looks FANTASTIC, and you would not for one second think there is any such micro scratches. but in sunlight, sure enough, they are there, only can see them at a certain angle.
also i cannot feel these scratches, they are really that small where its not noticeable. but they are absolutely from scrolling the screen. and i touch this thing so lightly its like i barely touch it at all!!
please check your phone too. thanks.
Thanks for all the replies. I have no idea how it got scratched...it resides alone in my front pocket most of the day. I ordered a seidio clear screen protector for it so hopefully it won't get anymore...
Mine are only visible in direct light, too. I can't see them when the screen is on, but when the sun or a light source shines directly on it I can see them. They aren't bad...just noticeable to be annoying...Haha.
Anyway, I guess I will just live with it since I am not very good with polishing compounds and will probably just end up with lots of swirl marks. I just hope they scratches don't grow into cracks with day-to-day use.
Edited: It does make me feel better that I am not the only one with scratch issues.
Thanks again.
Wes
I recommend iDrops. I have a bottle at my disposal and I have removed all kinds of scratches from my various phones and electronics.. Luckily I haven't had to use it on my Nexus yet, but I have no worries that'll it'll work great if I ever need them.
It's a little pricey, but well worth it for how well they work (as long as you follow the directions and spend the TIME it takes to remove the scratches)

I just ordered a bottle. If this works, I will recommend it to all my friends...a product that actually removes (or at least covers up) scratches well can make a lot of money...
I really hope it works.
Thanks for the suggestion.
Edited: Do I need to do the whole phone screen to avoid making a "depression" where the scratch is?
Wes
so still nobody has checked their phone in the sunlight to confirm if they too have scratches on the screen?
Sorry since the scratch I got I've put a screen protector on it. Can't even see the scratch I had and I can't see any faint ones in the middle.
yeah i got a screen protector too, can't mess around with a $600 dollar phone.

if you are talking about the diagonal lines visible in bright sunlight those are the touchscreen digitizer.
Ive been babying mine aswell, never in pocket with keys or anything, come to notice there is one tiny scratch right on the edge of the screen(black part, left side midscreen) but its there nonetheless, just an eye sore blah

No, you can Just do the spot where the scratch is.
My best suggestion is to spend time on it. Count on at least an hour of polishing it.

I'm not, just for the record. And I haven't kept special care of it, I regret to say.
Hey guys.
So yestreday I was using my phone with a light in the room. And I decided (since i now have the s7edge for about 3 weeks) to check unde4 light if there already are any microscratches
... and there are some although I take care of my phone like its a newborn baby. But its also only visible under light. So, the microscratches didnt really bother me... i noticed something else. Its like a stain or a smudge on the edge of the screen, on both edges actually... left and right... and they are not even the same, they are not symmetrical. At first i thought its just dirty but after rubbing it, it didn't go away.
So what I did was, I washed it under water (mind you, this was THE FIRST time I got my s7e under water).
I cleaned it good, wiped it good. But it is still there.
Then I went to google about this and found nothing... all i found, worth checking was some guy who said he had a gap between the FRAME and the SCREEN, and that he had sent it back to get that fixed (and it took samsung like 3 times to send him a good phone). So i checked that video and some people in the comments were reporting that the gap between screen and frame is so big that they can put a piece of paper under there. I of course tried it myself out of curiosity and ny phone also has the GAP between screen and frame. And after i washed it yestrday.... i noticed some water in between the edge and screen... inside that gap.
Now guys tell me those anyone else have that smudge or stain? Does anyone know what it is? (Remember it was there before I even got the phone wet for the first time)
And tell me does anyone else have the gap between screen and frame? And did anyone else notice a little water between screen and frame in that gap? Does it mean its not water and dust proof? I must say that I got it wet pretty good under tap water, but it is still working perfectly... i am just afraid now that there is a ways the water will get into that gap someday and ruin the phone. I really hope this is normal and its just how the phone is built and it is till waterproof and dust proof... but i water can get into that gap i do not know how it can be dust/water proof....
Thank you for all the help guys!
Oh and here are the pictures of the screen smudge/stain. I only took pictures of the left side of the phone screen. 4 pictures. 2 are original, other 2 have a marking so you can easily spot what we are looking at.
And you can maybe try to the gap between frame and screen, but i am not sure it will be possible,as i took that picture to show you the smudge, stain and not the gap.
Also I must say that this smudges are on both sides of the screen visible ONLY when the screen is turned of, or if you have a black wallpaper and if you dont pay attention to it you can hardly even notice it, even with black screen or turned of screen. Its the easiest to see under strong light.
is that the same place for the gap between the edge of the screen or thats for the cover section at the back of the phone.....
also ste you using a screen protector or that stain is directly on or inside your actual screen did u use a screen protector before or not at all
Hi there,
The gap between the screen and the frame is normal. Every phone has it, and I have it also, was multiple times in a swimming pool with the phone and it still works. About the smudge, I do not know, it seems like the oleophobic coating of your screen is weared off. Maybe send it back if it bothers you much?

Hi, I had the same problem, a while ago, with a Sony device. I thought it is water in the first, but I send it to Sony to be save, and they replaced the screen. It was a part of the screen, it peels off, and sticked on the screen-glass.
Nah its not really bothering me... but i dont know what it is and i got scared a little. Like i said it not really visible unles you tilt the phone and turn it under a light or sun.
I dont know how could the oleophobic coat wear off because the phone is 3 weeks old. Bought it three weeks ago, tottally new.
I dont use screen protector but i do have a spigen case.
So I guess its what Pufnasti said. The screen peeled off and stuck to the outer glass...
Pfunasti, should I send it back so they repair it?

I used my brand new Sony deVice only 2 days, and I get this problem. I would say, you should send it to Samsung. It's definitely a hardware problem, and it wasn't caused by you.
So today I got a bit of water on the epd and noticed that it was much sharper than the rest of the matte display.
So my theory is, would putting a screen protector on(which is not matte) do the same?
Sounds interesting, if you decided to try it out let us know the result.
Hi guys,
You are right! Since I noticed the issue with the stock protector (when I remove it) I decided to use with yp2 epd with screen protector. It is almost a clear screen with a transparent protector and there's no matte view. Just try it!
If you can't find original protector, you can use normal soft transparent covers by scissoring it. I use it like way
WTF!? I just dropped some water to test this and I couldn't believe how sharp it was... Will definitely try a screen protector. Thanks!

some advise for the best:
i use A4 sheet transparent sticker like this
You can print (be aware of setting printscale to 1:1) the attached forcut.pdf file on back face of the sticker and let's cut borders carefully. Then you can apply it to the epd screen. Tips: don't be afraid for the small air bubbles under 1mm diameter. They will dissappear since adhesive of the sticker will spread slowly in the room temperature in a few days. That's the theory :good:
And also don't worry about small fingerprints on the sticker, they also will be gone for the same reason.
See the attached file and images mine yp2
I think I found a hardware defect on my phone.
It doesn't affect the functions of the phone whatsoever, but it's a defect nonetheless.
There is a tiny tiny hole underneath the gorilla glass on the black bezel between the screen protector and the case. See attached picture, where the red circle is. This hole is super tiny, I can't see it under well lit room or outside or even in the attached pic. I'm sharing this for the location of the hole so maybe others can check on their phone if there is such hole. If I check in a complete dark room, I can see it. And it's visible only from certain angle, as the pic was taken. Screen has to be on, in order to see the light being emitted from this tiny hole, I'm talking about less than a normal needle point. It has no effect on how the phone work, but I found this last night. At first I thought it's a speck of dust, but it wouldn't go away whatever I did. Then I realized it's a light coming through under the gorilla glass. I'm not going to return the phone for this, but still it's a defect.
Check your phone and let me know if anybody has same problem ?
Mine does not have this problem.
