Would anybody happen to know off the top of their head which custom ROM's support WiFi Calling? I've been holding off on unlocking and rooting my Axon 7 because the stock image has everything I need including the most important feature, WiFi Calling. Any help would be great. Thanks!

I have tried dozens of custom ROMs for Axon 7. I don't believe any of them support WIFI calling - no one mentions that explicitly as well as i dont see any settings to disable/enable. I may be wrong...

Yeah I'm aware, but the customizable aspect is very minimal. Since there doesn't seem to be any custom ROMs I might just have to stick with rooted stock. Meh.

Yeah I noticed that too which is why I made this thread to see if anybody had any information. I think I read the Bad Boyz ROM is based on stock and has WiFi Calling, but it's outdated.

Yeah it's unfortunate but no devs have found interest in beefing up stock ROMs for the Axon 7. They're all AOSP based and ported which I've learned a long time ago will never support WiFi Calling. I've had to run plain stock rooted since owning the phone and never had the chance to try out all the good stuff that's available now.
But yeah as of now I think the outdated BadBoyz ROM is the closest anybody will get to a custom stock ROM and have WiFi Calling.

I appreciate the response! Same for me on stock. This is the first time I've run stock since 2009 and the fact that I can't clean/dirty flash every couple weeks or months (or days lol) when I feel like it is driving me crazy..

Same! The Axon 7 has an awesome Dev community which I'm thankful for seeing, but the lack of stock ROMs leaves us WiFi Calling fanatics out of luck. If I knew anything about dev'ing ROMs I'd jump right into that shizz haha.
@raystef66 could you look into porting some of those old ROMs' modifications? I have no idea how easy or hard that would be, but maybe with the APKs it would be enough

I was just going through our rom, Im not sure but i think a lot of it is that your carrier needs to support WFC. I know TMO does and AT&T. What base are you using US Model or for the G ?

It depends on the carrier but also if its implemented onto the rom. U models have it and works on TMO. Perhaps AT&T too. But as other carriers provide it too and having a G version i just wondered. But you wrote to me it could only be an extra apk for wfc ? If so ill dig up your rom and look for it. Perhaps ill find a way.
Digging up an old thread so I don't post a duplicate.
Does anyone know if ROM creators have been able to get Wifi Calling working yet? My phone is driving me nuts with random slowdown and hanging. I know I can just wipe it and start fresh, but if I'm going to wipe the phone I want to move up to Oreo.

Unfortunately most, if not all custom ROM's for the Axon 7 are still AOSP based and don't include WiFi Calling. The most recent Lineage 15.1 has the option for it under settings, but nobody, not even the dev, have answered if it truly works or not yet. It's like anything regarding WiFi Calling gets ignored.
Your best bet is to download NFound's release of the Oreo B12 Beta which is perfectly stable and will offer everything stock has like Dolby, and more importantly WiFi Calling.

How is the latest HTC update incorporated into ROMs, specifically non-Sense based ROMs ? I think with Sense-based ones, it's somewhat easier, but for Cyanogen-based ones, I'm completely clueless.
Main reason I ask is because of the silent-call issue. It's supposedly fixed with this update (I don't know for sure though) and it would be real nice to have it incorporated into the CM ROMs. I was hoping that running a CM ROM would avoid this issue, but alas, it doesn't.

I'm beginning to think that the silent issue is user error. Maybe a setting or am app that some people use or something. I have never had the issue and I have tested just about every rom.
Sorry off topic.

That "new" radio has been available from Sprint for more than a few weeks, if not longer, and I can personally attest that it does NOT fix the issue.
i have noticed this issue with my gfs phone. when she answers her phone no one can hear her. shes had this problem on several different roms. i however haven't on any...
I can confirm that the latest fix pushed from VZN has fixed the no-audio bug on my wife's Eris. She was rebooting multiple times a day, and has not since the update!
The real question is can I safely root and load EvilEris 3.0 now without losing the fix??

Too many people have changed the same setting or added the same app then.... And if that many people have done the same thing "wrong", it still warrants a fix from VZW or HTC.

I have been experimenting with the files from the MR4 update in a few ROMs that I have built but I still can not seem to get them to "take". I am not sure if the update is in build.prop or one of the other files included in MR4. I am still looking for any good documentation on how to cook the update in to my ROMs.
There are folks who know how to do it, but I don't know if it's documented anywhere.

I know Sense-Able is Sense-based, but is XTR ? If a ROM is not Sense-based or if it's ported from another (HTC) phone without the issue, and therefore no patch has been made, I wonder if it can be incorporated.

Yes, it's still possible to root the EVO. Check out the link below for more info. As far as not liking Sense-based ROM's, you can always go the AOSP route.

Without knowing what software version you're on, the first part of your question is hard to answer. As for the second question, what may be the best ROM for one user may not be the best for another, so it's up to you to decide which ROM works best by trying a few out.

Thanks for the reply FinZ28. How can I check my software version? As far as the best ROM I meant generally speaking the top 3 most popular?
Go to Menu>Settings>About phone to find your software version. As far as "most popular", I can't really help you there. There are too many choices and I haven't flashed a ROM on a OG EVO in awhile.

If you have a hardware issue with the device, the software on it is irrelevant. And Sprint services rooted devices.
Thanks for the heads up Cap. BTW is it possible to make service/3g better on this phone? I feel like when I was using ASOP Rom the service was a lot better...At times my text messages dont go thru, I seem to get drop calls more often, & things just feel a lot slower on this stock sense rom that came with the phone..
Cap what ROM are you using?
Is it possible for 3g to be worse using stock sprint sense rom vs an ASOP rom ? I remeber when I had ASOP rom my 3g would hardly lag compared to now its constantly lagging...

I just flashed Evervolv KitKat on my OG. More accurately I just restored it. Before that I was running Omni, but I have to do some work on that to get data working. I think I might need to borrow ril from Evervolv.
AOSP is slimmer than Sense, so the device will typically run faster with it. But I cant imagine signal is actually better, since the stock stuff is built specifically for the device.
Well Im not sure about that. When using AOSP my 3g hardly ever stopped working when I was at the gym. Now it stops at least 5 times...Does everything work on Evervolv KitKat Rom cant seem to find it on the forums? Im trying to find a ROM where all things are working well & is very fast.

also, will i be tied to sense only roms?

so, I've built a buggy cm14 that's good enough to look at and play a little with the features that do work, and watch the eye candy and all.
it has wifi and bluetooth and SMS messaging.
Otherwise broken telephony.
only some of the sound works. no camera, nfc, location.

A lot of what I do is googling errors, borrowing commits from other cm devices with similar chipsets, (and commenting out lines that throw errors in the build until I figure out workarounds... not the most kosher of methods.)
It's fun, but I often lean heavily on stuff that's already been done by others. Grarak put up really nice device trees to work from on this device for example, and my first tweaks at it were just after it had faded from cm nightlies. Made it comparatively easy next to my Optimus or Evo3d.

Odds are the basic call services will be online way before 4G. Especially since my 4G service is still broken and has ben for quite a while. I'll hassle Virgin Mobile about a replacement sim card soon; research and talking with a Ting rep both imply that would fix my issue.

Well, htc certainly won't be releasing N for my a5_chl (Virgin Mobile variant) since they wouldn't even let M out the door for it.
you can partly name lack of manufacturer support.
And I get tired of complaints about nonworking items from people who don't read the OP, so I'm waiting for adequate interest to post it (big upload on poor isp, couple hours.)
Plus there's inability to test dug/dwg and that's twice the upload bandwidth. But few source changes to build for them, and some dual sim owners would enjoy buggy N too.
Several reasons that N isn't out in the wild yet for the a5. But I'll probably set it free to roam soon.
Question about CM14
When you let it roam, I'm ready to try it out. But I have two questions. First, I am delighted with CM13. It was the first time I ever flashed a phone and it is working nearly perfect. A hiccup or two but nothing I cannot handle. It has extended the useful life of my VM 816 A5 and saved me from buying another phone. Here's two questions for CM14 whenever it becomes available. Can I just backup my existing files with TWRP, Wipe and flash CM14? Then, the real question is if I don't like it, can I completely restore what I have now with RESTORE? The last thing I want is to ruin CM13. Thanks for helping this newby.

Still fighting with ril. location not working at all in spite of the switch working. and nfc probably will work once I get the firmware moved to wherever it's looking. but all the sound seems to be working now.

It's ok in this thread, since that's kind of what it's about.
If I can stabilize the radio glitches enough that all the telephony stops force-closing constantly I'll release an alpha, there isn't tons of interest but there seems to be enough.
After all, if I were in your shoes I'd want a release to check out.

A lot of developers get uppity about ETAs.
I imagine with hot new devices and hundreds of posts a week it would get really old.
I usually just warn people that I have too much on my 'real-world' plate for my own taste and that my hobby work (this) ends up on the bottom of my get-er-done list.
Plus I like to put up it's-almost-ready posts and then take forever to upload:angel: and similar annoying delayed releases. Like I rebuilt for the OV a little while ago, posted about it, and never debugged or released it at all.
Bad dev :cyclops:
I put this thread out in general 816 to encourage comments and questions.
Once the alpha is out I'll open a thread in Original Dev (and post a link to it here) since cm14 is definitely original right now.
About to flash another test build!
Test has sms but no phone.

assuming the next build isn't in any worse shape than this one (should have working BT, and I'm really hoping for at least 3g data and maybe phone service) then I'll try pushing the zip to AFH. If my landline internet stays connected long enough to get it upstream...
Hi, everyone!
What are the advantages and disadvantages of custom rom for Lg G6?
Now, do you want me to do custom rom or not?
honestly, I'm torn.
And what do you suggest I do?
So thank you all very much, Sparcky
Believe it or not, stock rom with root is good enough these days. In my opinion.

Advantages and disadvantages of custom rom
If you have been part of the Android pool for any time, the chances of you hearing the term “custom ROM” is very high. A few months back, I gave a synopsis of rooting. I told what it was and gave its advantages and disadvantages. You may recall that the ability to flash custom ROMs was among the long list of benefits of rooting your Android phone.
DISADVANTAGES
Just as before, I am going to begin with the disadvantages of custom ROMs so that I don't waste the time of the faint of heart, and so you will know just what you are risking. Take the disadvantages seriously. If you do not know what you are doing, you risk turning your shiny, new, Android phone into a very expensive paperweight.
The first and most important drawback to custom ROMs is that you will void your warranty in the processes prior to flashing the ROM. As you may recall, simply rooting your device will void the manufacturer's warranty, and that processes is a prerequisite for flashing a custom ROM. The important disadvantage of custom ROMs is there are usually so many options, it's hard to decide on which one to go with. The solution to this is do your homework. ROMs that aren't widely known are risky and better left for the daring. Also, there is nothing stopping you from trying all of the different ROMs. If you try a ROM that you don't like, reload your backup image or try another.
ADVANTAGES
Now that we have that part out of the way, we can get into the juicy stuff. What is all the hype about? What makes ROM flashing so beneficial to the end user? What is possible when flashing custom ROMs? There are many questions that can be asked and just as many possibilities when using custom software. I'm going to try to cover the most important topics.
The biggest complaint about Android to date is no just fragmentation, but the slow firmware upgrades coming from manufacturers. Official software has to be sent through rigorous testing and numerous levels of approval from the manufacturer and carrier before it reaches users' hands. This can take and usually does take several months.
The most important part is knowing your risks. Always follow instructions intently. Deviating from a developer's set of instructions is asking for trouble. If something goes wrong, there is no one to blame but yourself.
How are you going to use your device?
IMO, if you use your device like most people, I think you can live with a stock ROM.
Moreover, if you are torn, what are the issues you are facing currently with your device? If these issues can be solved by installing a custom ROM, you provided your own answer.
Multiple choice, more fun!
I tried Fulmics, which is stock ROM plus tweaks, and eventually went back to stock ROM with root because it seemed more stable. I haven't tried any of the AOSP-based ROMs yet. I will give Fulmics one more try soon, but honestly the only thing I really miss on the stock ROM is text navigation arrow keys on the navbar when there's a keyboard active, and that's not in Fulmics either.
I might try LineageOS eventually just because they've fixed KRACK and nobody else has yet. But unless Fulmics or an AOSP-based ROM really wow me in some way, I wouldn't really have too much problem staying on rooted stock.

I agree.
You also might lose some features going to another ROM.
I've had my unlocked US997 for about a month now and didn't bother unlocking the bootloader.
The only things that were missing were ad blocking and being able to change colors of notification.
I found a non-root ad block solution and I can live without the other.
Previously I needed root to tether, but I switched to a newer plan and not that's not an issue.
Stock ROM with or without root.

If you're on the stock ROM, or a stock-based ROM like Fulmics, you don't. That's why I miss it; I'm on the stock ROM.
It's a feature I've seen in AOSP and CAF ROMs on other phones. Basically it adds left and right arrows to the navigation bar when there's a keyboard up, so you can move the cursor around easily.
LineageOS might have it. I don't know, I haven't looked. But I think it was originally a Cyanogenmod invention that got kanged around, so it makes sense that LineageOS might.

The basic ingredient missing in the "custom rom" is "wide angle" of camera ...It's may as well be an anathema.

You can get better battery life with a stock ROM and a custom kernel.
You can skin the ROM with custom settings (Xposed) and something like Nova Launcher.
I can live with the custom ROM on phones that don't have a ridiculously modified OS. LG and Samsung, just to name a couple do so many modifications that I really miss LOS.

Try Swiftkey and configure it to show arrow keys (cursor keys). I works.
Sorry if this has been asked before.
My phone was recently stolen so I have been using my S4 for over a month now however Samsung's OVER bloated 5.0.1 junk battery munching ROM is horrid and unbearable, its like trying to run Windows Vista!
I do not know anything about customs ROMs, and this will be my first attempt and I'm just looking for a ROM that WORKS without any drama. As Vanilla as humanly possible. Not interested in customizing anything, what ever Google offered stock I will be more then happy.
However I am LOST with all the ROMs listed. Some mention Xposed others mention kernals and its all very confusing and to be honest I just don't care. Can anyone who has tried these just tell me which to go for? I would really appreciate this.
Thanks!

Honestly, since you know nothing about custom ROMs, I'm going to advise you to read. And what I mean by that is do research on what it takes to install a custom ROM properly and how to set it up so it can benefit you. Decide which ROM looks good to you, determine if you can install it on your model then take the necessary steps to do so. Otherwise, if you're not up for that then stay where you are or you will absolutely earn a new paperweight.

Well I've seen enough YT videos to understand the concept/principle, but I'm just trying to find the most simplest ROM there is. As I use my phone for work also so I can't have it stop working every 2 seconds.
I've used a friends Pixel phone which runs base android essentially. Which ROM here is the equivalent of that?
Thanks!

YouTube videos for custom ROMs is beyond moronic. It's not about how it looks, it's about what must go on your phone in order to get to that point of installation. You're looking for a ROM that is pure aosp. I have no idea what version of the s4 you're on but this: https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...dcteam-android-source-project-nrd90m-t3453084 is pure aosp, based on Android 7.1.2. It worked flawless when I ran it.
Thanks, found this one on YT and it seems fairly straight forward to install, starts from 5:30

Unless I'm missing something here?
Thanks again
