How is latest HTC update incorporated into ROMs ? - Droid Eris Android Development

How is the latest HTC update incorporated into ROMs, specifically non-Sense based ROMs ? I think with Sense-based ones, it's somewhat easier, but for Cyanogen-based ones, I'm completely clueless.
Main reason I ask is because of the silent-call issue. It's supposedly fixed with this update (I don't know for sure though) and it would be real nice to have it incorporated into the CM ROMs. I was hoping that running a CM ROM would avoid this issue, but alas, it doesn't.

i have yet to have any silent call at all on any rom i have ever flashed

When I was running Sense-based ROMs, it was getting to the point that I was ready to return my phone to VZW. When I switched to CM5 ROMs, it was much improved, but still happened on occasion.

wish i could offer advice but ive yet to experience it

I'm beginning to think that the silent issue is user error. Maybe a setting or am app that some people use or something. I have never had the issue and I have tested just about every rom.
Sorry off topic.
Sent from my KaosFroyoEris

Speculation is that the new radio may be the "silent call" bugfix. Flash that & see if it helps.

That "new" radio has been available from Sprint for more than a few weeks, if not longer, and I can personally attest that it does NOT fix the issue.

i have noticed this issue with my gfs phone. when she answers her phone no one can hear her. shes had this problem on several different roms. i however haven't on any...

I can confirm that the latest fix pushed from VZN has fixed the no-audio bug on my wife's Eris. She was rebooting multiple times a day, and has not since the update!
The real question is can I safely root and load EvilEris 3.0 now without losing the fix??

Too many people have changed the same setting or added the same app then.... And if that many people have done the same thing "wrong", it still warrants a fix from VZW or HTC.

Havent had the problem with PlainJane2.0, will report if I do though

I've been running non-Sense ROMs since I rooted and haven't had the silent bug yet. I had it a few times after the 2.1 OTA, but nothing since running White Widow 4.5 and now CELB 2.8... hopefully it stays that way

I can confirm this. The EvilEris 3.0 ROM does not include this bug fix and the bug is still present. The bug ceased for me until I rooted my phone and installed the EvilEris 3.0 ROM.

I have been experimenting with the files from the MR4 update in a few ROMs that I have built but I still can not seem to get them to "take". I am not sure if the update is in build.prop or one of the other files included in MR4. I am still looking for any good documentation on how to cook the update in to my ROMs.

There are folks who know how to do it, but I don't know if it's documented anywhere.

Every rom i have used that was made without the July patch has done the glitch. Now that im on a rom with the patch i havent had an issue. Sucks cause i was loving Sense-able, but im getting use to Xtr

I know Sense-Able is Sense-based, but is XTR ? If a ROM is not Sense-based or if it's ported from another (HTC) phone without the issue, and therefore no patch has been made, I wonder if it can be incorporated.

Too slow

I have no idea what happened.
I'm using Cyanogen last update and the phone is so slow it is useless.
Specially when closing an app and going back to the home screen... it takes forever for the phone to be available and ready.
What is the problem ? Any hint?

Im guessing you have alot of apps open in the background then, you should consider getting a task killer app from market.
Not really...
A wipe fixes everything.
Thank you guys.
The phone is slow 5 seconds after a reboot.
Home screen takes forever to appear and some time forces close.
I might try another room, I don't know.

I had the same issue. Here is what i did to fix it
Did a Nandroid backup, wipe ,flash with the 1.6 base rom first, then the latest CyanogenMod rom.
Thanks
Will try your suggestions and post the results
Mine was slowing to a crawl as well, turns out (I think) it didn't run as well with compcache enabled. Since disabling it again it is running much better.

Erm I do believe I did! *spits into spittoon and listens for the 'ting' noise*
I'll even go as far to say any dev putting the word stable in the title of a rom (at his own admission when it is anything but and needs to be tested) yet still continues trying to fool himself by still saying its stable deserves to have it labelled buggy crap

On the concept of "stable" I think people have preconceived definitions without merit. Take for example the definition of a "stable stochastic process", which though it is nicer to deal with than many Levy processes, is still a pure jump process. If one can accept the idea of a pure jump stochastic process as being "stable" then it is no problem to see any Cyanogen ROM as stable.
As a side note, I have not had any issues with CM that could not be easily resolved. I love his ROMS, but have a lot of respect for the extremely stable work put out by Enom (I only used his ROM for awhile, but switched to CM for the ease in theming).
This has happened to me before with Cyanogen but I found it was more to do with the SD Card. It would happen anytime I removed the USB cable without "Ejecting" the phone first, amongst other things.
The solution was to format the SD Card and reflash but the downside is you lose everything including apps.

In my opinion, Fresh Rom 2.0d followed by DarchLegend.
Ill put my hat in Fresh's corner. I used damage's rom as well. You cant really go wrong with either.
I've tried DC 2.05, 2.06, 2.07, and 2.07.2 and each one becomes unusably slow after just a couple of hours. I don't know why. I would literally wait 10 seconds for the Settings menu to show up.
I switched to Fresh this morning and so far it's running well. Not as well as DC 1.0 did (I have no idea why the Eris ROM is so much faster) but well.
I've been using DarchLegend for a while now, and it is by far my favorite. Especially with visual voicemail working in the latest release, it is a very solid rom. But you just have to try them. Make a nandroid backup, then just start wiping and flashing like crazy
im trying to download it but it says could not be saved, because the source file could not be read. contact server or admin why is this
honestly, none of the current 2.1 roms cut it for me because of several issues including the audio loss. if you want a 100% working/stable/fast rom go with pancake 1.5.
I'd say fresh's feels the most stable
I do have a place in my heart for darch's AOSP so I am going to say that's my favorite, hopefully he gets that update out soon.

Right now I would have to say Fresh then Damageless. I find myself using both more than all other dev's ROMs but Fresh's ROMs always seem to give me the least hassle and run the smoothest. I love trying them all out though. I am addicted to flashing ROMs and modding my phone.

My main issue with all the 2.1 roms is the battery life..it flat out sucks.
I'll plug my phone in and check it about every hour and see its gained about 5% battery life. Yay! If I can turn my phone on and the battery loses 2% while im looking at it, its useless to me.
I'm running Pancake 0.1 with Sense and even on heavy use I get easily 20+ hours out of it. Yesterday I unplugged my phone at 8 in the morning and I sit here at 4pm the next day with 5% battery left. On a smartphone? WOW!
Time to plug it in!

ive never had any problems with any of fresh's roms most stable by far! ive been using darchlegend for the past week, and i love the new widgets no problems at all except my 5.0 doesnt have vvm i havent upgraded to 5.0.5 yet.

Only thing holding me back from Syndicate right now is that every other post in the thread is someone having some issue with the rom. All reproducible bugs are fixed in 1.0.1a, except the harmless Airplane Mode FC and the Service Mode FC (which is only seen if you so desire to go there!) - both of which are not present in Fully Loaded, as it includes TouchWiz.
If you read through the thread, almost all of the issues people have had were due to Clockwork, Titanium Backup, or an SD card that needs formatting. Everything else, like I said above, is fixed - and if you do have any issues (which I assure you, we do not anticipate), just post, and we'll help right away.
I think you'll also find that there are plenty of people needing help with issues in other ROM threads.

That's in the kernel - DevinXtreme is looking at it - and only at 1.6ghz (and even then, only for some people!). See the Xtreme Kernel thread for more. The kernel defaults to 1ghz, and the ROM does not change that. 1.2ghz is known stable (well, so is 1.6 - minus the odd vibration for some) - and Devin is in the process of adding even more steps (1.3/1.4ghz for example if I recall correctly).

It's worth installing, I personally have my phone clocked at 1.6 when it's plugged in and it's never once not woken up, or vibrated strangely. Then again, when I flashed I formatted my sd, data, dalvik, you name it.
Baked Snack is the only one that I've tried since its been very stable for the most part. Launcher Pro quits on me every now and then but I believe that its a problem with the app itself.

[Q] Suggestions for what I should do...please?

I've been reading through the forums here and I think I have a little bit of info on custom roms and kernels etc. but I've never put one on my phone. The most I've ever done was root which was enough for me for a while but I've recently started getting a little sick of lag and 4g/gps issues for some reason I can't tether, and the hard keyboard skipping is annoying. I was eagerly waiting for froyo to help with these issues but it doesn't seem to have helped in some cases which make me nervous to go to Froyo before the bugs are worked out.
My question is this...is there a rom out that anyone could suggest thats easy to put on the epic for a noob but can also take care of the issues I'm having and be fairly stable? Or should I wait for Sprint/Sammy to fix the Froyo issues if they're doing that? Or just wait for the EB13 roms to be fully tested and worked out before I do anything? :/
Sorry if this is a pretty vague question, I was leaning towards the newest version of midNIGHT since people seem to have good feedback on that and the dev seems pretty responsive to the public but bonsai and viper both seem like pretty good prospects as well...any info would be immensely appreciated.
Thanks
I don't think any of the roms will help with hard keyboard skipping. If you're a fast texter its always going to be present, at least it has for me.
What 4G problem are you having? As for GPS, some people can't get theirs to work regardless of what they try. Others (myself included), have gotten it fixed with almost instant locks by using some of the available roms or doing the master reset in one of the threads here, that's what fixed it for me.
I say dive in and try something out so you get a feel for what's available. Try out a DK28 rom, they all run pretty good and EB13 introduced some new bugs. If you can read and follow directions, you'll be just fine
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
If you don't really know what you are doing and you're still on 2.1, I would say to stick with a 2.1 based rom. There are plenty of souped up roms available. If you want a 2.2 based rom and you're not confident in what you're doing, I would say use Odin to flash the dk28 based froyo. Then, flash midnight or bonsai. People seem to clamor for those 2 for stability and debloat. There are others that are great, but have more things installed.

Thanks for the insight and I was thinking about just diving in myself :/ I just get nervous I'm going to screw up my phone or lose some data or something but I think I'll try a DK28 Rom really soon, just not sure which one yet. Would you say they all run fairly better than stock Eclair?
As for the 4G issue it never stays connected. My GF has an evo shift and in the same room she connects and stays connected with good speeds and everything and mine always disconnects right away. GPS isn't that bad on my phone right now however theres the occasional times when it can't lock which is very annoying.
Thanks for the help though!

Yeah, thats most likely what I'll do. Those were definitely my top choices from reading through the forums and seeing what each had to offer. I'll have to wait for the EB13 builds to become a little bit more stable before I flash to any of those. I definitely need to just stick with what works right now and not testing, since I'm such a noob :/
Thanks for the feedback though, I'm starting to get rom fever as we speak How long does it take to flash to the dk28 then to midnight? I wanna know when I'll have the time to Also, you think you could point me in either direction of the odin flash for dk28 and/or the midnight version for that build?
Thanks again
You may want to try this for the 4G issue:

As far as Roms, I definitely agree that Midnight and Bonsai are great roms. You may want to search for the Genocide kernel under the development section too to help with lag. Once you get started flashing roms, it might become an addiction! Good luck!

Yeah it's unfortunate but no devs have found interest in beefing up stock ROMs for the Axon 7. They're all AOSP based and ported which I've learned a long time ago will never support WiFi Calling. I've had to run plain stock rooted since owning the phone and never had the chance to try out all the good stuff that's available now.
But yeah as of now I think the outdated BadBoyz ROM is the closest anybody will get to a custom stock ROM and have WiFi Calling.

It depends on the carrier but also if its implemented onto the rom. U models have it and works on TMO. Perhaps AT&T too. But as other carriers provide it too and having a G version i just wondered. But you wrote to me it could only be an extra apk for wfc ? If so ill dig up your rom and look for it. Perhaps ill find a way.
Digging up an old thread so I don't post a duplicate.
Does anyone know if ROM creators have been able to get Wifi Calling working yet? My phone is driving me nuts with random slowdown and hanging. I know I can just wipe it and start fresh, but if I'm going to wipe the phone I want to move up to Oreo.

Unfortunately most, if not all custom ROM's for the Axon 7 are still AOSP based and don't include WiFi Calling. The most recent Lineage 15.1 has the option for it under settings, but nobody, not even the dev, have answered if it truly works or not yet. It's like anything regarding WiFi Calling gets ignored.
Your best bet is to download NFound's release of the Oreo B12 Beta which is perfectly stable and will offer everything stock has like Dolby, and more importantly WiFi Calling.
