Please help if you can
Phone will turn off if I tap on the blue dot shown in the picture. I can not turn it back on unless a charger is plugged in. After it is on, it will stay on without the charger plugged in. It will sometimes turn off when in pocket or face down on table, but I have consistently been able to cause it to turn off when putting a little pressure on the blue dot. Any idea on what is under there that could be causing this?
I grabbed a screenshot from a teardown video. See the attached picture.
As you can see on the screenshot from Luniz2k1 it could be the battry, cable or something other on the board. While you press on the blue area it bends the whole cover so the force will be transferred to other components too, not only on that single point. If you don't have warranty just open it and, maybe try again pressing on that point with an plastic tool.
I'll give it a shot, hopefully it is not too hard to open up. Thanks everyone!
Wow, how surreal. I had the very same issue with a Moto G4 Plus that I bought during that major discount Motorola was offering on their site on Thanksgiving, down to the letter. I just RMA'd it since I had recieved it like a week or so later and found that nobody online had the same issue.
My theory is that there might be something shorting out as you pressed down. There's not much else that comes to mind as to why the entire phone could shut down.
Have you managed to fix it by yourself?
Unfortunately not yet, but as long as I baby it it will stay on. I keep a pocket juice and us at all times in case the phone needs a jumstart
you may try to check the wire....if by pushing wire it get turn off then there is the problem in battery wire....then you need to change it..

Ok so I was so happy that I finally got XDA live .2 running on my 1.5 month old Hermes. This site has helped me to no end. Being completely new to the Windows mobile platform, I've made it a point to check the forums here every day and read up on issues/tricks & tips. My utmost respect to the folks here at XDA-Developers. In fact I just contributed some money I was so thrilled. I never had to post a question before.
Short lived :-(
Due to my own stupidity. I dropped my Hermes on the carpeted floor in my office. Now it wasn't a huge hit to the unit. It fell 2.5 feet and it was carpet.
I picked it up and hit the power key (It was sleeping before I dropped it) but no joy. I yanked the battery, waited a minute, replaced it. No Joy.. I've tried lots of stuff
1) With battery in place, soft reset
2) Without battery in place and attached to power.
3) removed battery, waited an hour, replaced battery. No power on. Re-attached power.. No power on.
So long story short, I can't power it up. I get a red light when attached to power with or without battery in place.
I am screwed? I'll cry! I have removed the sim-lock and I am Super CID on the phone. It's over a month old from Cingluar. Do I have any hope of getting it fixed/replaced/someone here suggesting a fix?
Any help appreciated. I saw a post on the red light when charging but nothing so far has helped.
I know they are many genius' here. I'll donate more to this awesome site regardless of getting this fixed. I just hope I don't have to fork out another $500 for a new unit.
What we don't know in your case is whether dropping the device has just triggered the infuriating Red LED issue that will come good or whether more serious damage has occurred.
You say you read a post re this and I assume it was this one?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1077622&postcount=6
The one thing I did not see that you tried is having charger plugged in with battery out and whilst remaining connected inserting the battery. Wait several seconds, hopefully LED changes to amber. However, though frustrating it may be worth repeating this kind of thing repeatedly until you are bored to tears! I say this because some folks find that it just seems to start eventually but they've tried so many things they cannot pin down what exactly the solution was.
If it's more serious - which I rather doubt (only 2.5ft to a carpeted floor) then you could try a disassembly and reconstruction. (I'm assuming you do not have warranty) I suggest this as the first time I got this, this is what I did and on re-assembly - hey presto it worked. Did not actually do anything but perhaps it helped with a loose connection or helped discharge the circuits and reset charging function??

Hi,
had the same issue! No function, only red light - with/without/new power plug, accu - only red light.
My device only layed on my table at home - overnight crash effect...
I had to bring in the device to service...
Now i have a new one with higher s/n and all is good again...
best

Would having a second, fully charged battery help?
Sincerely,
Steve
It's going back to cingular.
Thanks for all the advice/help. Nothing seemed to work at all. Different battery, attching to power and inserting the abttery afterwards. However, I now can boot trhe unit, but I have to squeeze the sides of the unit (Or jam a piece os plastice bettwen the slide out keyboard) and the unit boots. Not very practical.
I contacted Cingular and a replacement is on the way. I put back on the original ROM that it shipped with and wiped everything else. I am Super CID, does this void my warranty? Will they even care? The issues is definietly HW so I hope they just can't power it up when they recieve it back. I'll play dumb anyway if they ask!
Now it's just trying to survive the next few days with either my SE P900 or My S710 (Sniff... sniff.. I want my Hermes back already)
Thanks again to all who posted advice.
Hi All,
I dropped my Samsung s5 (rooted) phone in water.
Before it went submerged(not more than couple of seconds) it hit the side of the sink.
I quickly took it out and looked for visible signs of broken screen or any other part. But there were no new marks, I wiped it clean, turned it off, took the battery out and looked for any water, but nowhere I could see any water inside or outside.
I then turned on the phone, It turned on all the way to homes screen , I entered pin and could view regular home tab, then I think after few seconds, screen went black. I turned it off and tried it on again but it never came back. Once in between in all of my attempts of turn off and restart, it showed battery and yellow triangle on top of battery sign.
I have tried to search and it seems like lots of people ended up with similar symptoms in their phone, but none of the solutions suggested have worked for me.
What I have tried is:
1. Leave phone submerged in a pot of uncooked rice for couple of nights
2. Take out battery and press power button for x number of seconds (starting from 10 to onwards of 2 minutes)
3. leave batter out and then try to restart (again time was variable from few minutes to several hours)
4. Soft hit on power button,
5. I might have overlooked writing a solution here but I wonder if there is any that was suggested that I have not tried.
Initially when this happened, I connected it to charging cable and red light would start blinking(where as it should stay solid red while being charged).
Anyways, now phone screen is dark. I can use adb shell to view the content on the phone which means OS is till intact and I am 100% sure that phone is working as intended. As the notification lights blink when I get an email if phone is on etc.
Its an expansive phone and hope some one can shed light on how to revive the dead screen?
Thanks
Sorry to hear that! It really sucks. Was the charging port loose or opened when dropped in the sink?
I know the blinking red light, instead of the solid red light, when charger is connected indicates a problem with charging. This can be caused when there is little water in or around the charging board or the motherboard and charger is connected.
If you don't see any signs of water damage (pink/red indicators instead of white), i'd say back up all your files and everything else through ADB, wipe the phone clean, in case you find somewhere to service or in case it gets worse and you can't access your files any more.
Chat with a Samsung rep online too, and see what your options are. Sometimes they repair it for ~$70, off warranty, and with that they might even swap the motherboard and other pieces too if needed and you only paid 70 or whatever they offer.
Thanks for reply, now charging port was shut...and after couple of days now charging happens ok, I have a solid green light when I connect charger.
So I am guessing you are thinking that either screen is gone or something else and therefore no possible way to fix this?
Let me start from the begining.
So the other day I plugged my phone into USB in order to charge it (I had to keep it close to me hence why I didn't plug it into the wall charger). The phone was charging, showing up as a media device on the lappy, etc. I was doing stuff on the computer then I heard it vibrate so I went to see what it was. The blue notification light was on (facebook notification most likely) and when I pressed the Menu button the screen didn't come on. I also tried the Power button but same thing. So I decided to restart the phone. Since then, it hasn't turned back on.
I tested the battery in another device and it's working perfectly fine. Neither recovery nor download mode work. I tried to do some of the tests people recommended for sudden death, like plugging it into usb and leaving it for a while, trying to kick start it (putting battery in while holding the recovery buttons) - you name it, i've done it. I even went to the lengths of taking off the back cover to see if theres any crap that got in there, maybe a loose connector, anything burnt - nothing. Unfortunately, I don't have a multimeter to see if there is a charge running through the board. Looks like sudden death to me, the only thing is - I rooted the phone on the 1st day I got it and I don't live in the country where I bought the phone so sending it over for warranty repairs would be a pain in the ass. What can I do? I would greatly appreciate your help, if you manage to help me fix my baby, I will ENSURE to send you a donation for a nice, big, cold beer (or maybe a few).
Looking forward to any answers! I really need my phone, I use it for work.
It seems like a hardware issue... you need to take it to a local store to scan it's hardware.... maybe something gone wrong while charging which made something be destroyed inside it..... hope its not the motherboard.....
it happens sometimes, when charging current fluctuate, it destroys the charging circuit and in result it damage the whole current circuit, local repair shop can solve the issue.
I've have had the phone for 2 years and it had been working fine until last summer, where I had accidentally left it in my trunks pocket when I went out swimming, It had to be underwater for like 10 minutes or so before I realized it, thankfully, we were on holiday in Turkey at the time so I could leave the phone (without a lid or battery) on the balcony for days to dry. And eventually, it worked! But that came with a few issues.
1. The phone would shut off randomly.
2. Had to charge the phone to power it on.
3. The camera had a few dark spots where water got in.
4. When the phone was powered off it would constantly start beeping, the same beep you hear when I power it on.
5. Speakers are weak.
Nowadays, I am pretty sure all the water is out of the phone, and I am only having these issues now.
1. The camera had dark spots.
2. Speakers are weak.
But yesterday, things were getting weird, when I closed the phone (close the phone, not power it off), and I try to open it again, it would not open and would randomly make a beep sound, then the buttons on the bottom would light up, the only thing I can do to make it normal was removing the battery, when I did that I tried putting the battery back in, and it is back to making those beeping sounds I mentioned on point 4. So I tried charging the phone to power it on, and it still didn't do anything! I found the only way to power the phone on was charging it without the battery then waiting like an hour for the 'charging' sign to come up allowing me to power the phone and insert the battery back in. But it still won't open when the phone is closed (again, closed, not powered off).
What should I do?
Water got in. Deep. And the fact that it was not disassembled and let to dry made it worse. Water could have still been inside. And the fact that you still used it didn't help either. Time for a new device.

The thing is, everything works, It's just the hard procedure of powering it on. But yeah, I might as well leave it on forever with certain apps until its time is up. FPBP to you sir.
You could certainly replace the speakers and camera, but I for one have no idea what the heck is happening with the weird sleep issue (yes, closing the phone=putting your pc into sleep or hibernate). I say it could be a power button failure, but if you could order a new frame off of ebay and replace it, see if the issue is still here. And that's not a beep, that's a tune you hear when the phone powers on. Or the vibration? Please clarify.
Hello Devs, OP fans, lurkers alike
So I've had quite the quirky experience recently. Thought I had a brick in my hand for a while. Then strangeness.
Last week, I left my phone on top the car after gassing up. Half mile down the road, it slides off. My music from BT goes out. I return to find the screen smashed, display black and unresponsive.
Back inside the car, BT connects immediately and my song picks up right where it stopped. The capacitive hardware still works, vibrates when I tap or hold the BackHomeRecent, turns the "screen" off when I hold home.(or at least Android thinks its turning off).
So I decided to replace the screen and digitizer assembly with a new one. After transferring all the components as per a 50 step procedure found on ifixit, I go to power on. Nothing. No lights, motorcars, not a single luxury.
Maybe charging will help? AC USB yeilds nothing. But then my pc recognized it as USB Bulk 9008. At this point, I'm just about to give up and go buy another phone, figured its Bricked enough for me.
An hour later, my Android alarm clock for work goes off. Screen still black, but the led lit up. I had to pry it open and remove a screw to detach the battery connector to shut it up.
Obviously Android still works. Defective replacement screen, perhaps? Maybe I Fudded the reinstallation Elmer style? Is there hope to save my device?
PS. Dev Options were off during the accident, PC didn't even recognize anything while it had its cracked screen.
